MTP driver prob

Hey guys!
I have a weird problem. Some weeks ago I decided that I wanted to a firmware update on my 20 GB Zen Touch. I couldn't get it done by all means. Then I read that formating my HDD would solve the problem. I was about to do this anyway, so I did it, but that didn't solve the problem. Then I read that it has to do with Windows Media Player . I uninstalled it and installed 0 (also tried a rollback before). Nothing seemed to work. It took me a week of searching the forums until I decided to try the update on another PC. I used one that never had WMP before and it worked. I installed WMP 0 and afterwards I was asked if I wanted to synch my music with WMP 0.
The problem now is that I can't use the Zen Touch with my own PC. It does recognize my player in the device manager, therefore I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the MTP driver. I've tried reinstalling WMP 0 and several times since that driver comes with the player, but that didn't work. I also tried to delete old driver rests, but nothing works. When I plugin my Zen it is recognized as a new device, the device manager finds the "MTP Device" driver and tries to install it, but whenever I try to do so, it says that "there was an error during hardware installation" and that "a service installation part of the driver is invaluable" (or something like that, translated from german). It doesn't matter if I directly point the device manager to "C:\Windows\inf" or even to the wpdmtp.inf file, I always get the same error. I also tried to download that inf file somewhere, but even that doesn't work.
What's up with the driver? Where's the problem? What else can I try? I'm getting frustrated...
Thanks for any help!

I experienced this, too. Try this program:
http://www.pcwelt.de/index.cfm?pid=662&pk=59763&dl=25705&p=2
This will completely delete WMP, so that you can install WMP0 without it automatically updating to WMP. I hope you won't have problems, since that program is in german. But actually you just have to click "next".
You might experience the problem, that you can't install WMP0 after that because it will give you an error message that this version of WMP doesn't fit to your Windows or something. In that case just extract the setup file of WMP0 somewhere, start your computer in safe mode and copy all dlls from the file you extracted to Dri've:\Windows\System32\.
Good Luck!

    Hi,
If you can't use MTP you can try "mass storage". When connected, go to "Settings > DEVICE > Storage", then tap "..." and select  "USB storage".
But MTP should work. Which version of windows do you use ?

  • MTP driver fails to install on Nokia X6

Hey guys wonder if you could help me out because this forum is simply full of experts!
I know that one of the solutions for installing the MTP driver is to change your usb connection to Mass Storage and delete a folder in the private folder but i can't find it in the private folder! plenty of other folders with lots of digits but no 10208913 folder.
I have just given up and started using WMP in mass storage but it means i can't transfer actual playlists, the songs are transfered but i have to make a playlist manually on my phone which can get real tedious.
if you guys could help that be brilliant and expect plenty of kudos and green box ticking :-)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
I have found a work around which has now worked ok for a few months. I say work around because I'm sure this is a Nokia bug not a Windows bug and is thus not solveble entirely without Nokia's intervension.
    - To start with get rid of any special drivers you have installed on Windows previously
    - Next we need to separated stuff out on the memory card so the files the phone manages are separate from any you add while using at as a USB memory stick.
-- I decided the easiest way to do this was to start from scratch but there is not need to if you'd prefer not.
    - Once ony nokia stuff, music and videos are back on the card pick a single location to use for eveything else. I chose the Others folder.
    - Create one or more folder under this location then using the CMD set the attributes of the folders to system, hidden.
        -- i.e. for me:
           --- attrib +s +h "\Others\My Downloads"
           --- attrib +s +h "\Others\My Documents"
    - You are all done now.
SO, what are the pros and cons....
    Cons:
     - No access to personal files with Nokia's built in file manager
     - Top level folders are not visible to you in windows so you have to type the path in in the explore address bar.
    Pros:
    - The phone works as an MTU device!!
    - If you lose the phone there is a good chance that your personal files will not be found

  • Zen Vision: M - MTP device driver prob

Hey there, I have just recently encountered a problem with using my zen on my computer.
My system is hot stuff so its not gonna be the problem.
Basically I plug it in and get "MTP Device Found"
then I am prompted to install MTP drivers through windows update - Problem, file from the installation was not found after it checks to find drivers for me.
Windows media doesnt recognize the device as MTP (this is WM im using) nor does Zen vision: m media explorer.
Is there a driver package I can download that will let windows know what on earth to install to recognize this MTP device? I have tried all the downloads under the vision: m downloads section, none do a thing to help. I've reinstalled, deleted old registries and copied ones across from a computer that works with it. WTH lol
Any help apreciated: This is Windows XP

MTP Drivers are actually user space drivers ( a new Microsoft idea/mistake)? If the Windows Driver Foundation service isn't running, its not going to recognize the device or load the driver. It should be set to "automatically" start up.
If its stopped there is a problem of some kind, either it has been set to not startup on boot or there was a failure of some kind at boot and you should check the event logs in eventvwr to see what kind of failure there was.
If the service was set to start at boot and did not, then there should be an error message in eventvwr that will give you an idea of why.

  • MBP internal drive failure causes external drive probs. Weird...

I've been booting off an external drive for some months now. I figured it would save wear on the internal drive, and when my boot drive eventually failed (the external one) it would be quicker and a lot cheaper to swap that out with another external one than to have to change the internal drive. I use FW800 and not seen any performance hit.
Yesterday (with the whole system booted from the external drive) it started going really buggy, everything was painfully slow - like, virtually at a standstill, and with a very slow wi-fi internet connection.
I tried rebooting. It would only boot from the external drive, and only if I held down the option key and selected a boot from the options that appear. Otherwise just the apple symbol and an endless twirly. It wouldn't boot from the internal drive +at all.+
Eventually I booted from the SL disk and ran disk utilities. To my surprise the internal drive was corrupted in some way and couldn't be repaired. I wiped the drive and restored it using Time Machine (stored on yet another drive). Everything then worked fine, except for the slow wi-fi.
So, +why should a corrupted internal drive stop the MBP booting from an external drive?+ This is worrying for me if the machine ever goes down at work and I have to rely on booting from another drive, which then might not boot properly and is buggy.
To complicate matters (or does it offer a clue?) this morning I booted from the usual external drive. It worked ok, but wi-fi was still slow. Another Mac here was showing the same internet slowness, so I figured it was maybe the ISP.
Then the MBP itself started going slow n buggy again. A check on the internal drive showed no return of yesterday's probs. On a hunch I unplugged the router from the mains and plugged it in again. The wi-fi then worked properly as did everything else.
+Why would a buggy router affect my MBP? Could it have corrupted the internal drive?? Why should any of that affect the machine's ability to boot from an external drive..?+
    Thoughts anyone?

clicked 'solved' but the credit went to the wrong place!
    it's solved, thanks to clinton:

Hi got some more problems with this card so much that I’ve had to take it out of the PC and put a Nvidia Geforce2 MX400 which is working with no probs.

I have installed all the latest drivers and also tried some earlier drivers for the card but the system is very unstable re-booting or hanging from the error reports I seem to of traced the errors back to the Graphics card. Below is a copy of one of the error reports I have retrieved from c:\windows\logfile\watchdog.

  • Zen V Plus Driver Prob

Hi Guys, i've bought a MP3 Player and everything fine, good player, nice aspect.
Ive installed the sotware, restarted the computer and when i connect the usb to the player it cant install me the driver. It gives a error in MTP dri've saying:
A error has occured during the instalation of the device
The specified service doesnt exist as an installed service.
So i have the driver installed but it simply doesnt work and my computer doesnt detect my player.
What can i do to fix this? Anyone whith the same problem?
I Have Windows XP SP2 Installed

The MTP devices require several Microsoft windows system services to function.
Its possible that one of those services?didn't install or was possibly disabled.
Used to have a list of the dependencies from the Microsoft MTP developers kit, will have to see if I can dig it up. I know it has some dependencies on the "Windows User Mode Driver Framework" service in windows. Have seen some OEM distributions of XP that by default have the service set to disabled or manual instead of being set to automatic.
Users who have problems with Windows media player 0/ not seeing an MTp device generally should?check under windows services to see the service is installed.
And you can also check to see if the service is running by looking for Wdfmgr.exe in the windows process list. Based on your description of your problem, and how uninstalling it and reinstalling it fixed the problem.
Sounds like it is possible that the service wasn't installed and functioning.
This service is most likely the most important component that gets installed as part of Windows media player 0 to allow support of MTP hardware devices.Message Edited by gmandual on 0-3-200704:38 PM

  • Zen Connection problems (MTP driver install deni

Hi, Whenever I connect my Zen to XP (SP2) I keep getting the popup balloon saying XP has found an MTP device. However, I can't connect to my Zen through any software (explorer, WMP, mediasource etc..). I've tried the above steps in the sticky thread, but nothing has worked.
It's not my player either because it works fine on my brother's computer.
What's interesting is that when I go to the Device Manager and try and update the driver manually ( I can see the Creative Zen drivers). I get an access denied message when I try and tell Windows to update to them. Windows is infuriating like that! Since I've tried installing them through the built in Administrator account.
Another thing is that when I uninstall the drivers via Device Manager then replug my Zen into the computer again, it shows up as a Zen for a split second, then goes back to a generic MTP device. Argh!
I doubt I'll get much help, but if anyone knows or has experienced this before I'd appreciate some help if they've found a way through this!
    Thanks.
Edit: My Zen Touch also works flawlessly on this computer which makes things even wierder!

  • Ext Drive Prob:Upgrade 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 SeriTek 1VE4 PCI SATA cntlr issue

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has reported issues with the Firmtek PCI SATA controller during upgrades to Tiger.
I did a basic Tiger install on a clean drive, then migrated my user account & apps, then applied 10.4.3 combo update then installed FCP Suite & used system update to get the remaining updates it recommended. (security fix & FCP suite component updates.) Did this on a G4 1G DP MDD system 300/16 PATA Maxtor boot drive and on a G5 2.5DP 250/8 Hitachi boot drive system and both exhibit the same condition regarding external SATA drives.
Basically, the card still works and the drives show up on the desktop, I just can't right-click and "eject" them for hot-swap. (which I used all the time under 10.3.9 to move video files from system to system.) System profiler can't find the external drives attached to the Firmtek card, but I saw that was a known bug. If I physically power down the external enclosure, or remove (hotswap) one of the drives, I still get the old dialogue box about SATA configuration has changed and everything appears to work properly. This just sounds scary since the drives aren't dismounted (ejected) properly. Also, I have noticed that sometimes only one of the two drives in the enclosure is detected at startup (neither of the drives is the boot drive).
Just looking for answers. I have had no problems whatsoever with the Firmtek stuff up til now.

Here's the reply Seritek gave me (and I did the firmware update to 5.1.3, but that didn't fix the eject problem).

This is a known bug from Apple, and we have reported to Apple. A firmware up date won't help. BTW: we have the latest firmware vs. 5.1.3 . You're welcome to update the firmware. Please make sure to read the note before you update the firmware.

If you have a 7. setup, then it's better to enable DD EX detection (and DTS ES), so it creates the rear center channel in the rear speakers (same goes for CMSS-3DHeadphone as it creates virtual speakers), but on a 5. setup it should be off.
Dynamic range it's a matter of taste; on 'Full', in order to listen clearly the speech you'll have to crank up the volume, therefore when the "action" begins it will be very loud , it's more theater-like but you may receive complaints from neighbors or even from your family (specially at late hours). On 'Night' mode it tries to minimize the difference between loud sounds and soft sounds.

  • 845pe max 2 and floppy drive probs

    I've got a 845pe max 2 fisr mobo
My floppy drives' LED is continuously illuminated when I turn on.
Windows 98se says it's an NEC floppy drive even though I didn't insert any drivers for it or anything. When I put a floppy disk in to it the drive can't read and a message in windows indicates that there is no disk inserted.
The thing is the drive worked when I first set up my system but that is the one and only time. I suppose it's a positive thing that the LED works.
    Any ideas anyone?

Don't worry, it won't hurt your motherboard.  It definitely sounds like that's the problem (floppy cabble upside down).  Simply spin it around, and it should fix your problem (the "key" as you put it is facing down on my floppy drive).
If that doesn't fix the problem, try using a different cable.

I bypassed NDIS.vdx with safe mode step by step
start, and removed Dial up Network in control panel,
as seems this is what uses this driver.
It now boots up OK , but of course no dial up network!

It's probobly the same as this one.
