MTP Firmware unusa

I've installed the MTP firmware on my Xtra 60GB, and now it is almost impossible to get inot the player to edit tags, delete tracks etc. It is unbearably slow, even using Notmad.
Are they going to update the firmware to fix this problem, because it really is very bad, to say the least (I know there is a thread specifically for these, but you have to go through 0 pages to get to the release date, we need a new post release thread, and a few answers from creative.)
James

James, did you update to the latest Notmad version. They just released a version that has the MTP support, you actually have to change the driver type by right clicking the Icon in the system tray to MTP.
Hopefully that will help until they get the major kinks worked out.

  • Petition: PlayForSure/MTP firmware for Zen 2

    Hi folks,
Rather than leaving this relati'vely new player in the cold, I'm sure folks would like to see a PlayForSure/MTP firmware for it.
    So what do you think?

We're not talking about the Sleek, this is the Zen 20Gb.

It maybe considered new to non Asian countries but in Spore, Zen 20GB is considered a old model as compared to Zen Vision and Zen Vision:M
It's still relati'vely new though, compared to players like the Touch and Xtra.
Very often I wonder about creative marketing strategy. Why issit some models are released predominantly in say Asia Pacific region and some in the US and Europe and not in Asia Pacific or vice versa?
Any idea why? Different models developed in different countries? I understand besides the development labs in Spore, creative has some development labs elsewhere and this result in different model releasing at different time?
I'm not sure that players are developed outside of Singapore. It does seem that Singapore has some different ideas to what folks are used to in Europe and the USA, in terms of releasing a consistent and stable range of players. Also releasing players to fix bugs in earlier players is not considered good form in Europe and the USA.
I think each region has very clear control over what they release, hence the variation.

  • Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00

When installing the new firmware update version 2.00.2 on my Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Explorer and the Creative MediaSource Applications do not recognize the device when it is plugged in. I installed the software Update Package (v.00.) for 'Zen Micro Players with PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware' and I am experiencing the same results. I had to revert the player back to PDE Firmware v.0.03.
Please update forum if experiencing the same thing or have suggestions.

MediaSource won't work with the new v2 firmware, you can only use WMP and the updated version of the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I believe it does say this in the readme associated with the new firmware.

  • Xtra - any MTP firmware planned? Da

    Hi Guys
does anyone know if Creative have plans to upgrade the Zen Xtra firmware so that it will be auto-detected as a useable dri've under windows (like most / many other good mp3 players)?
I'm assuming, from limited reading, that this auto-detect capability under windows is what MTP is!?!?
The fact that I need to install software & drivers to use my Xtra to transfer files / music is my only (but a major one) gripe with my Xtra!
Thanks in advance for any feedback
    Siggy

They have to have a date internally for either a beta release or a upgrade release. Any good software house has a development schedule. Will they release it to the public is another story because that means they have to be held accountable to shareholders should they not make that date. I have been very surprised that there hasn't been an upgrade since December....When I had my iRi'ver device, they were upgradeing the firmware with new features and capabilities on a 2 week basis. That's the real point of firmware is to add new/upgraded functionality....

Help!?My Zen Xtra 40 GB freezed when I was deleting a track with the player and I have to unplug the power supply. Then this player stucks in startup screen which displays EAX afterwards. I tried to enter rescure mode followed the instruction, i.e., power off, hold play/pause, press reset with paper clip, but nothing happened. What did I do wrong or what else should I do before I dissamble it and test/replace the hard dri've? Advice is appreciated.Message Edited by hotelcalfornia on 02-4-200609:34 AM

I managed to get the hard dri've out and ran a test with my pc and it turned out that it's OK. Without the hard disk, the player has the same problem, i.e., freezes at the EAX screen. I tried to update a firmware, but the player wont be recognized by the windows. Help, please!

OK Fine, but what DRM 0 features does it support NOW and does it support ANY "MusicToGo subscriptons" AT THIS TIME? Like Napster or F.Y.E. or.........
Please provide more details even if not a guaranteed answer, so fustrated with not enough information.
Thanks and keep up the great work on the Zen Micro

I also wondered what this line meant. I guess it means it doesn't support any new formats over and above that which it supported already i.e. it supports the normal WMA DRM but not the newer Janus DRM which Napsters subscription service uses.

  • Reload Firmware Kills Mi

After hours of perusing these boards, and finding dozens of people with the same problem, I am amazed that someone doesn't just spell out one simple fact here: If you use the "Reload Firmware" command on the 'recovery' menu, you have an expensi've paper-weight.
Why on earth would someone choose that dangerous command in the first place? Because the 'beta' firmware that is needed for Napster-to-Go doesn't work right. Any notion of getting rid of the beta firmware, and going back to the original is a myth. Once you blow up the firmware, there is no way you are going to bring the Zen Micro back from the dead.
Once the firmware is gone: your PC will not recognize that you have the unit connected; you will never again see any other menu BUT the recovery menu; and you will never be able to upgrade the firmware of a unit that is not recognized by the computer. You can try it on as many PC's as you like (I tried two others as some suggested, all with completely up to date XP SP2's, with WMP 0, and all updates), you can change USB ports to your heart's delight -- but this one simple fact is not going to change: if you killed the firmware the unit is unusable.
Why on earth isn't this all-important fact in the 'special' messages at the top of the forum? Why did I have to spend 2 hours of digging to find out many others have been forced to return their unit for this problem?
I would like to hereby challenge the Creative folks who are on this forum: why don't you just take a dozen Zen Micro's, click on the Reload Firmware command, and then tell us step by step how to bring them back to life. Obviously it can't be done, or you would have already posted such instructions; so why not post a warning not to use that command prominently on this board?

    Jason,
In response to your reply to my post about the Zen Micro being inoperable after using the "Reload Firmware" command:
Yes - the Zen Micro worked for about 5 days after receiving it, although the software was buggy as hell interacting with Napster to Go, which was the only thing that made me buy the Zen in the first place. I would never have installed the 'beta' firmware, except that there was no way to use Napster without it.
No - the computer is not 'having a connection problem' as you suggested. I fell for that line of reasoning, and spent hours putting it on 3 computers (up to date with the latest updates) - but just as someone else replied here, if there is no firmware on the ZM it is NOT recognized by ANY computer.
Your message does not make it clear whether you did a reload firmware command on a unit that already had MTP firmware 2..02, as I and many others have tried to do. The fact of the matter is that you can launch the firmware install program, but it stops dead in its tracks and says it cannot detect the player.
Against my better judgment, I have asked Amazon for a replacement unit to be sent instead of a refund. I do not have high hopes that another unit won't also be unstable with the beta firmware - although at least this time I will avoid the "Reload Firmware" command like the plague. If it weren't for the Outlook sync feature, I would have gone to another brand until the Napster-Zen Micro deal is ready for prime time.
I still feel users on this board should be warned more prominently about the high likelihood of killing their zen if they use the reload firmware command. I have read countless other posts on this board that have gone through exactly the same experience, and have ended up either replacing or returning their units. Had such a warning been clearly posted, I would still have a working unit, as I read through hundreds of posts before and right after the purchase, and could have been forewarned not to attempt a firmware reload.

  • Problems with MTP firmw

The 2.00.2 MTP firmware always crashes when trying to update my Zen Micro. I have installed the software updates and .02.05 firmware without a problem. The other firmware gets to about halfway through until it says "rebooting device" for the second time. At this point, the micro doesn't seem to reboot. I have left it for about ten minutes, possibly more, at this pointbut it does not make more progress. Also, when it gets to this point the "close" button become 'clickable' on the screen and i often end up getting a message saying "not responding". I have been into the rescue mode on th player and have tried various mixtures of reloading firmware, disk cleanups and full formats but no joy. I realise that this firmware is not crucial. However, I have paid a lot of money for this player and it would be nice to use it as removable storage without installing the Creative drivers whenever i upload or download information to or from a pc.
    Thanks.

    JOHN_CENA,
As you reverting back to MTP firmware version 2.00.2 from version .02.05. If yes, then it's normal. As mention in the detail of the firmware, you will not be able to revert back to a earlier firmware after this update. If MTP is what you want then you will need to get version 2..02 for it. Also, regardless of which firmware, the removable disk feature on the player should work for data storage. Are you have problem with that?

  • I can´t organize files on my Zen Micro using MP10 (and can I get rid of the firmwar

Hi, I installed the software that came with the Zen, the first one hung up my computer (forgot what it was called) but media explorer seemed to work ok. I was recommended to install the firmare so that I could transfer files using MP0. I did this (one of the earlier versions). I drag and drop my music folders into MP0 and sincronize but when they are transfered I get new folder created with new names onto my Zen (album names, song names etc.) everything disordered and many folders with only one song in them. I can't seem to figure out how to organize my music. Is there a way of reformatting the player, get rid of the firmware and make it work properly with media explorer again (since media explorer doesn?t recognise the player after the firmware instalation) Please help, the sound quality of this player is great but music transfers and organizing is giving me a big headache.

    Ear-Rock,
You can download the version of Zen Micro Media Explorer that support the MTP firmware you have now on the player. The version is 4.00.8 and is available on the website. You can also change the firmware to the PDE one by downloading and installing the PDE firmware version .02.05.

  • Zen Micro MTP not recognized? Solution in he

So, after scouring the forums here and Google in search for a reason why my MTP enabled Zen Micro wasn't being recognized in a fresh WinXP install. Well here's the solution everybody.
    Try installing this:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922
I noticed that the player isn't recognized by drivers from the net or the Zen Micro CD (They're both the same anyways). The reason why is because the Device ID for the Zen Micro with the MTP firmware is different (USB\VID_04E&PID_430\00525530038FF3). If you open up the .inf file used to install this player, the Device ID is not in there.
I had another XP install on another HDD which recognized the Zen Micro and noticed that only a single file was being used for the drivers: wpdusb.sys.A search on Google brought me to the Microsoft KB page. I installed that patch and poof instant recognition.
I also believe this issue could be resolved if you install the latest Windows Media Player 0 available. I had it installed, but somehow that file wasn't installed and the update provided it for me.
    I hope this helps somebody~! =)

The only other suggestion to what the problem could be is a a software conflict of the driver and current software on your system that is interferring with the recognizing of your player. I had the same problem happen, and I tried my Micro on three different computers, and the Micro worked, instantly, and my Zen use to work on my computer before an upgrade.
Somewhere in between of any other updates of software on the computer, there must be a conflict. My player will become recognizable once in a blue moon, which also leads to the conclusion of software conflict, or possibly IRQ issue.
Maybe the latest driver just released may fix the issues of eliminating if it doesn't cause any conflicts with other softwares that are on your system for your Micro to be recognized.

  • The MTP software has a MAJOR BUG---loss of hard-drive capac

    I can't believe it! I can't believe it
I just got back my REPLACEMENT Zen Touch 40 GB from Creative, and THIS one (different serial number) will only access 9 GB's of the 40 GB hard dri've before no longer writing, and timing out!!!!
My original one (that's why I sent it back) did the same!
There is no way that two completely separate units would have the same 'defect' on the hard dri've. The common thing between them is the MTP firmware!
Creative.... I shall be seeking a full refund for this product.
    I am so flippin' angry!
    Sesquash

I just got off the phone with Customer Service.
WARNING......to all Creative Zen Touch Owners!
    Read on...
I told the Customer Rep that I was having the SAME EXACT problem (the player not reading/writing past 9 GB's on my 'replacement' RMA hard dri've unit that I had just been deli'vered) on my Zen Touch 40 GB.
He told me that the MTP firmware would not be the problem, but the Napster-To-Go transfer software was the issue for the player not writing to disk at the 9 GB usage level.
First off, the Napster-To-Go software does NOT control the input/output of the Zen Touch, The friggin' FIRMWARE does that. The software only tells the docked unit that it wants to write data to the hard dri've and waits for the player's hard dri've to comply.
Secondly, the Rep told me to use WMP 0 to try to write past the 9 GB barrier.
Hanging up the phone, I did that. Guess what? WMP-0 ****COULD NOT WRITE TO THE DRIVE AS IT WAS HANGING UP AND TIMING OUT***!!!
    That's were I got suspicious....
I saw that the serial number had a pasted tag with the 'new' serial number. That 'new' number smeared with my touching it on its face and was obliterated off the plastic tag by that one touch!
With it being gone anyway....GREAT JOB, CREATIVE.....-------I peeled it off and lo and behold, some one at CREATIVE RMA had totally DEFACED the original serial number off the unit they sent me back as 'new and replaced' I can only surmise that they sent my unit RIGHT BACK TO ME with the same defecti've hard dri've inside (if...as they claim, the MTP firmware is not to blame).
As far as I am concerned, I feel that I have been totally abused as a FORMER Creative customer, and that they tried to send me back my exact same unit and scam me that it had been replaced!
With no 'fake' serial number any longer on my RMA replacement unit, and the original having been DEFACED and hidden with magic marker BY RMA staff or who ever had their hands on it when having been deli'vered to Stillwater, Ok.----I can only gather that I now no longer have any warranty, or chance in h*ll of getting a full refund for Zen Touch
Creative----I am so DISGUSTED---and will NEVER , EVER purchase another solitary product from you.
As far as I can see---I was merely sent back my EXACT and DEFECTIVE unit with NO REPAIR of any kind.
    Be warned.....

  • Please can someone explain what the firmware numbers me

    Hi,
I would like to check whether I have the most up to date firmware for my Zen Micro but the number codes seem to be unfathomable. I have .02.05 and I don't need plays for sure because I don't use a subscription service. Is this the best one to have, because I am not sure if I still have the 24 hours standby mode before going into deep sleep, or whether I have the 4 hour.
    Thanks
    Isobel

    Ditto on ..0.
On most Creative players with a choice of MTP (PlaysForSure) vs. non-MTP firmware--Micro, Sleek (the non-MTP version was in the initial European models; only MTP firmware is in US models or available for download anywhere), now Touch, and presumably Xtra when its MTP firmware releases--the .x.x line means non-MTP firmware; the 2.x.x line means MTP firmware. (The MicroPhoto is different, but from what I gather the non-MTP firmware on the first Singaporean models was a fluke.)
Within each line (as you can see from fred_be9300's changelog), the higher the middle numbers, the more recent the release. Thus ..0 is more recent than .0.02, which is in turn more recent than your current .02.05.

  • What was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before M

I would like to know what was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before the MTP firmware?
Please make sure you are 00% on this.
    Thankyou.

I think it does, but I'm not sure; since I wanted MTP, I only used .x firmware long enough to save the original Creative test files (with MediaSource, not ZMME) before upgrading to 2.x. And yes, I had to li've with 2..02's shorter battery life until 2.20.05 came out.
May I ask why you want to go back to .x firmware? The only thing that will get you is the ability to use it with Win98SE/2000/Me--but only if you can install Creative drivers on every PC you use it with. MTP requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, but doesn't need any Creative software at all to work. (Microsoft has made an MTP driver for Win98SE/2000/Me, but it requires customization and may not be supported by other software. I'm tinkering a bit with the customization part right now.)
There are other pitfalls in changing Micro firmware families, in either direction--you'll lose all the files on your Micro, you'll have to install a different ZMME (and I've heard non-MTP ZMME isn't quite as full-featured as MTP ZMME), and you'll need a new plug-in for MediaSource to work.
