MTP support in Winamp 5.2 B

For those of you who dont know, Winamp is now supporting MTP devices and I believe they support the regular Zen Drivers as well, but I dont know perhaps someone else can tell us that. But what I do know is that that MTP support works great.
You can only get it on their forums:
<a href='http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2363' target=_blank>http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2363[/url]
Their latest build as of posting is 365. To get MTP support you must download the:
[color="'red'>Full Installer with portable media player support one. Only that one will recognize your player.
As this is a Beta version, you will run into problems so use at your own risk. My success doesn't mean that you will be successful as well. If you enjoy your player with whatever program you are using then continue that way. This is mainly for those who love to experiment with new programs, or those who are tired of your current program.
I'm loving that now I finally have one program to do everything I wanted, edit playlists, batch tag editing, song transfers, everything
Ok well not data transfers, or streaming... but thats ok
Check it out!

It works with the PDE based players using the plugin.
I think Winamp is an EXCELLENT program, so glad to hear they have support, particularly with the tag style view.

  • Sansa Fuze and Amarok / General MTP support in linux

Hey fellow archers I'd like you to share your experiences with MTP devices in linux, especially in connection with amarok. Im kinda trying to manage my Fuze with Amarok and MTP which doesn't work out very well at this point. I'm well aware that this device can be managed as a mass storage device. I simply prefer it this way. So what tools and devices are you using ?

Well, something certainly broken with libmtp and the sansa fuze. I suspect the poor sansa firmware though. Tried several diffrent players with mtp support (rhythmbox, banshee, amarok) and every single one had problems copying music to the fuze. Sometimes the player hangs after copying, sometimes it doesn't add the copied songs to its database (still see them in amarok and can copy them back to the hd). Then sometimes the songs get copied and added to the db but the player simply hangs when playing some of the files.
No problems when using the device in msc mode. I'd like to dig a little deeper on this but have only little time at hands right now.
    Edit:
At this point I'd just use the fuze in msc mode and manage it with amarok but when copying a big number of files to the device amarok starts a lot of kio_file processes and kde gets unusable to the point it crashes.
    OT:
graysky wrote:+1 for Banshee.  You also should seriously consider rockbox for the sansa.
Rockbox is really great. I had a rockboxed fuze v1 and broke it. Sent it in and got a v2 back. So no rockbox for me in the forseeable future. Someone wants to trade for a v1 ?

  • MTP support?

Any plans to add iTunes support for devices using Microsoft's Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)? Is MTP already supported via a third-party plug-in or otherwise? A freely available application called "xnjb" looks promising, but I'd like to be able to communicate with MTP devices using iTunes.
    Thanks!

Sorry, but we're just your fellow users here and have no insight into Apple's future development plans. My guess would be that it's highly unlikely, but you never know. If you feel it important, you can make your case to Apple here:

  • Creative Mp3 Players MTP Problem Solution

Hi,because of the firmware and windows problems,if you have a mp3 player with a firmware that doesn't support MTP problem, sometimes even if you reformat your computer, you can get "player not connected" error. To solve this you must install MTP supporting firmware on your mp3 player, but if you don't want to upgrade your firmware (because of being afraid of stucking in the recovery mode, some other reasons)there is some other solutions to solve this problem.
Editing registry keys, and some other patches did nothing to solve my problem. So I deleted all Creative Drivers and programs from Add/Remove Programs, and I deleted Windows Media Player 0 and installed Windows Media Player 9,than I installed everything from my mp3 player's cd (media source, nomad explorer, device drivers, etc.) and I downloaded and installed new device driver (version 2...) from creative web site. I restarted my computer, and my problem is completely solved. Try it...

    Hello,
I'm a newbie and I don't know a lot about MP3 players so I hope you can help me out. I have a brand new Kenwood car audio with an USB cable to plug your MP3 player in. My friend's Samsung MP3 player doesn't work, after some research I find out that the MP3 player has to be an MTP one to work with the car audio. Now my question is: are all Creative MP3 players MTP maschines and do I have to make a software update or what ever to "make them be" a MTP player?
Thanks a lot for any support!
Are you sure about this? Which Kenwood is it exactly? The info I've seen on the Kenwoods say that the USB device must be MSC (not MTP).
Perhaps your friend's Samsung is MTP, and that's why it didn't work.

Thanks for letting us know, although Microsoft did say MTP support was coming for the Touch and the Xtra in November

  • ZEN Micro and MTP with Media Player

Every product review I read about the ZEN Micro says something about the player supporting MTP and working with Windows Media Player 0's Autosync feature. Well, my ZEN Micro does NOT have MTP! Is there a special way to enable it that I am missing?

    Perhaps the reviews are wrong?...
It has been said that MTP support is coming for the Touch and the Xtra.

  • MTP Firmware unusa

I've installed the MTP firmware on my Xtra 60GB, and now it is almost impossible to get inot the player to edit tags, delete tracks etc. It is unbearably slow, even using Notmad.
Are they going to update the firmware to fix this problem, because it really is very bad, to say the least (I know there is a thread specifically for these, but you have to go through 0 pages to get to the release date, we need a new post release thread, and a few answers from creative.)
    James

James, did you update to the latest Notmad version. They just released a version that has the MTP support, you actually have to change the driver type by right clicking the Icon in the system tray to MTP.
Hopefully that will help until they get the major kinks worked out.

    hi everybody,
since yesterday i'm a proud owner (more or less) of a zen x-fi. the only thing that dri'ves me crazy is that i can't get it working with windows.
first of all the system config:
Desktop PC (P4 on 95P Express chipset)
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    Media Player
i searched the web and am trying to solve this problem: "there was a problem installing ..." for quite a long time now.
here's what i did up until now:
    - deinstalling Media Player and installing v0 - couldn't deinstall v
    - installing newest version of the WMP (v - 5th Oct. 2008) from Microsoft to get the newest MTP support
    - deinstalling the "Creative Centrale" and reinstalling it (at the moments it's uninstalled)
    - installing Microsoft User Driver Framework v.0 (wouldn't allow me - of course, because it's implemented with WMP or rather it's drivers are older)
    - setting USB ENUM to "read" and "full control"
    - deinstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers (motherboard support as well as chipset vendor newest drivers)
    - checking every single USB port (front and back)
    - settings for USB HUBs to "full power supply" (no Power Management)
    - reinstalled SP3
    - got all new Updates from Windows (critical updates) including all up to date .Net Framework versions
    - tried the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (quite sure that this doesn't do anything since it seems to be the sdk version and i know to little of programming to try something out)?
    - downloaded the fixup (found it in different posts to have been a workaround) and there was a little success: i got a working driver (no "there was a problem installing ...") until i realized that it doesn't show anything inside the folder (mtp/portable device) neither does it say "zen x-fi" in the device manager (it's only called "mtp device"). checked the .inf in the fixup package and realized that it couldn't work as long as i don't know the x-fi's Product ID, which i searched for on the internet (linux forums etc.) but the x-fi seems to be too new
now: i of course tried it on another PC to be sure (Laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3 and WMP 0!) - and it works ...
downside is: my library is fairly big and would fit on the Laptop's harddri've. i found a little workaround and imported the folder into the laptop's winamp library (via Network) and got some songs onto the Zen but it takes a lot of time getting them through the network connection (WLAN).
as i see it there's only two chances: either the USB is not suitable (which i can't believe, since everything else that i attach is working fine and without any issues) or the problem has something to do with the Media Player's MTP.
so does anyone have another idea or would i have to wait for either Windows or Creative to come up with a solution(maybe another hotfix)?
    thanks in advance
    regards
    al

Ive been having hell with this aswell, although i think my computer is to blame. It "should" work if i could install wmp, but i cannot because my computer needs me to install some update rollup 2 which doesnt install and i cant install sp3 either... i've been contacting microsoft but they cant sort it.. maybe my pc is just reaching its old age and cannot cope with so many new things going on.
but from what you have said i cant see why it shouldnt work with your current system.

  • Zen Micro: Bricked or just lame, you dec

    Hi all,
I have a zen micro which i flashed to the old .0 non MTP firmware to have support with winamp. Anyway i decided i wanted MTP support so i tried to flash it and it got stuck on a stage "Please reboot device". I decided to switch it off myself by removing battery and it went on but i felt like it wasnt set up properly.
Anyway i went on to boot into the bootloader and select reload firmware however it went for like second then stopped and said load new firmware.
I plugged it into my PC and both of the creative apps say :Your Player is not connected, please connect ur player.
So i rolled back to wmp0 and no result, it stilll comes up as a MTP device. I think im boned.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks
    Julius

Can you mention if you're charging through the AC adaptor (on a wall plug) or through USB from a computer? AC adaptor is better (faster).
What you're describing (totally drained in one night, after switching off with or 2 bars on battery indicator) is at the least unusual, and may indicate malfunction.
Now, if you have some time left before the deadline until which you can exchange in the store, then I suggest you just test this some more. Then you can make an informed decision.
Charge the battery fully (at least 4 hours on AC adaptor). Afterwards, start playing random songs (preferably MP3 constant bitrate 28 kbps) continuously. See if you get ? 2 hours playing time. (without EX, without Smart Volume, without fast forward, ... ). That'll tell you how the battery performs on playing.
Then for the apparent draining, you'll have to just collect some more experience.
It may be that the battery indicator is just not calibrated correctly yet, because it's the first days of use. For calibrating, it's good to FULLY discharge and recharge the battery. On normal use, a Lithium-Ion battery will li've longer when recharged often (so not fully discharged at every use). But for battery indicator calibration, you want to discharge the battery fully let's say once per month or so. (see www.batteryuni'versity.com)
    good luck.

  • Zen Touch/Zen Micro deb

I am currently deliberating over which MP3 player to buy, and having read online reviews, I have decided to buy a Creative Jukebox. However, I am finding it incredibly dificult to decide which one to choose, between the Touch and the Micro.
On one hand the Touch has 20GB of storage, whereas the Micro only has 5GB, as we all know. However, I am also intending on using the player as an external storage device. Unfortunately the Touch will not allow you to do this without installing software on every computer you wish to use with the player. A MAJOR drawback. Is the Micro recognized automatically as a removable dri've by Windows?
Are Creative seriously planning on writing firmware that allows the Touch to be recognized as a removable Dri've? I believe they intend not to, as it is a driving factor for potential customers to choose their smaller flagship product, the Micro, rather than th Touch. They both have similar price tags. I therefore believe that the reasons aren't technical, they are marketing.
Creative: please concentrate on this factor of the Touch. It would turn it from a great device to an awesome device.
Also, I was wondering if this software found on sourceforge works with the Touch? And if it allows Winamp to recognise and use the Touch as any other mp3 player?
(Thanks to anyone who replies to this message, i'm pretty new to this Forum malarky!!)

I doubt the Touch will ever have firmware support for uni'versal mass storage (UMS).
What it will soon have though, is MTP support. Meaning no additional drivers/software will be needed to drag and drop both data and music, provided you have WinXP and Windows Media Player 0.
The Micro has a "removable disk mode" that allows you to use up to 2 GB of the space for a UMS partition. I don't think the Touch will get this.
To be honest, I don't think storing data files on a DAP is all that big a feature to most people. Those little flash dri'ves are cheaper now and much more convenient for that purpose.

What is this supposed to mean? Should I ignore it?

On closer inspection, there are many more warnings there. Like:
libtool: warning: remember to run 'libtool --finish /usr/lib/gvfs'
    libtool: warning: relinking 'libgvfsdbus.la'

  • A post, Zen Touch Owners might consider and an Open Letter to Creative. L

Creative needs to take some COORPERATE PRIDE as regards one of their products, that until recently was the FLAG SHIP<SPAN> of their hard-dri've based line of D.A.P. s,
By using the Napster-To-Go Subscription Service, I spent the better part of last weekend loading up my Touch 40 GB player with reams of music.<SPAN> At about the 9 GB point on the hard dri've, the seek head would no longer write to the platters and after a time out, stopped with a subsequent TRANSFER ERROR coming up.
    Bummer.
    OK.
I phoned Creative, got an RMA number and shipped it off for a hard-dri've replacement at the least, a totally new unit sent promptly back at the best.
Being bummed out that I probably wouldn?t see a new TOUCH 40 GB returned to me for the most part of two weeks to a month (by some of the reports via this thread), and being that I wanted a FLASH DRIVE so I could use a D.A.P. in places where intelligence dictated that a hard-dri've based player is going to experience hard-dri've shock/abuse (like being on your bicycle, jogging, cross-country skiing, etc?.all forms of outdoor activity) so?being that I did not now have my TOUCH to listen to (I am a music-aholic) I went out on Saturday and purchased an IRIVER T0 GB flash player.
Being this is a Creative board, I won?t go into a RAVE on how good and feature packed this D.A.P. is.<SPAN> Just suffice to say that if you would like a D.A.P. for when being acti've, or as a back-up to the TOUCH 40/20, THIS IS THE PLAYER TO CONSIDER.
Now, amongst features heaped upon features this player has, never mind the FANTASTIC sonic output it puts out in sound fidelity and reams of non-distorted volume (I use a set of BOSE TRI-PORTS that need a setting of 8 on the Zen Touch, but with the Iri'ver T0, I am right now (as I type) listening to Gloria Estefan?s CONGA at a volume setting of 2 out of a possible 30!!!!<SPAN> It is just that good!
Now, what is this post doing on a Creative Forum board?<SPAN>
The answer lays in the next few sentences/thoughts?.
Amongst 2 EQUALIZATION presets, that ALL so differently shape the sound wave (they again, are THAT good, including SRS (WOW) is a CUSTOM EQUALIZATION pad that covers the following frequency ranges:
    50K /200K/ K/ 3K/ 4K/ (adjustable from ?0/+0
It was in using this EQUALIZATION PAD, that is was so totally demonstrated to myself how truly abused we are as Creative Ltd.<SPAN> Customers having all of us, purchased a Zen Touch D.A.P. from this company.<SPAN> I paid $300.00 dollars for my Zen Touch 40 GB and it was deli'vered to me straight out of the package with a DEFECTIVE<SPAN> Custom Equalization feature, that is made defecti've by inferiorly produced Creative code in their Zen Touch Firmware, the very ?heart? of the product, driving and deli'vering all the features(?) on the Zen TOUCH 20/40 GB.
It is one thing to release defecti've code, if the defect was not caught by (hopefully) Creative upon the launch of the product, but with ENOUGH paying customers having made this defect well known and so WELL DOCUMENTED back to Creative Ltd. and in the many MONTHS since the defect was found in the FIRMWARE that dri'ves the TOUCH, and yet, and UNBELIEVABLY so, the defect yet remains (if in fact now even more profound!) in their latest version of the Zen TOUCH firmware!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, who are now reading this post, ------by having had the extreme PLEASURE in owning a D.A.P. (newly acquired Iri'ver T0) with all features advertised upon the package ***WORKING***, right out of that package, let alone with such amazing performance deli'very, I now declare that I will wait a reasonable (not months any more, BUT ONLY A FEW WEEKS FROM THIS POST DATE) <SPAN> period of time to elapse before I see a FIRMWARE release and/or patch from this company, Creative Ltd., to ***FINALLY*** address this broken Custom Equalization feature ?offered? within the Zen Touch firmware.
Now in having custom set the ranges of frequencies in the Iri'ver T0 to JUST how I like my music----I have to tell you Folks----IT DOES make a TREMENDOUS difference to the sound and your PERSONAL expectations of it!
A Custom Equalization feature is THAT important to have on a sonic device, let alone a fully WORKING ONE, bug free!
    To Creative:----a personal comment:
<SPAN> I have been a loyal customer of yours from the mid 90?s by having purchased EXCLUSIVELY from you, my sound cards, as well as your line of VIDEO CARDS.<SPAN> I have been a most faithful repeat customer having never seen to date your company so delaying/ignoring the defecti've broken issues from one of your FLAG SHIP sonic products.
I spent<SPAN> $79.00<SPAN> (far below the asking price of your Zen Touch product line)<SPAN> last Saturday on an Iri'ver T0 GB flash player that (with obvious pride of manufacture from Iri'ver Ltd.) works as advertised, works with the present FIRMWARE installed in the device at the TIME OF PURCHASE and PRODUCT RELEASE, and has earned my respect in putting out such a feature-rich product and with obviously, such Cooperate Pride.
Creative Ltd, if you do not put human resources immediately on releasing a patch that brings the Zen Touch FIRMWARE to a bug-free condition that it should have been when having been released with the product launch, I will consider no longer you as the stalwart CREATIVE company of old, that once DID HAVE SUCH COOPERATE PRIDE in any and all models of hardware they produced or sent out with their name upon it.
I will no longer purchase from your company, fearing that as I hold the product in my hands at the store, the features that I am there to purchase will NOT be deli'vered ?out of the box? due to inferior workmanship in materials, in SOFTWARE CODING, and a lack of Quality Control that dictates nothing leaves the plant until the Chief Technology Officer and his staff can sign off on that product?s quality and being fit for release to the Consumer and potential Customer.
I hope that the Moderator of this forum sends this post to whomever it will have cause to see the crippled firmware inside the Touch finally be brought up to quality standards that was the mandate of the Creative Ltd. of past years.
If this post has to reach the desk of the C.E.O of CREATIVE Ltd., then let it be sent there!
Creative Ltd, you are losing Customers hand-over-fist that won?t bother to sit down and type out/compose this letter/post, but will merely resolve to NEVER AGAIN look at, let alone buy one of your present, or future products.<SPAN> Nobody likes to have a ?broken and crippled? product---RIGHT OUT OF THE PACKAGE!<SPAN> Nobody should have to experience that when hard-earned money is being exchanged for it!

I wrote the following e-mail to Creative Support today. If they can't respond to a polite, reasoned e-mail like this then I will never buy another Creative product again!
I will post again when Creative respond to me, with a bit (well, more than a bit, more like a billion tonnes) of luck they will be able to say whether they even PLAN to fix the Custom EQ problem.
    All the best, everyone.
    <E-mail>
    Dear Support,
I recently (0-Nov-05) purchased a Creative Zen Touch 40GB mp3 player, and I am generally very happy with it. The battery life is great, and I was happy with the quality of design and build compared to the (relati'vely) affordable purchase price.
However, my query/complaint concerns the new firmware release for the Zen Touch, version 2.0.05 (MTP support for Zen Touch). I have uploaded the new firmware to my Zen Touch (and also the relevant updates for the Creative software: Media Organiser, Zen Touch Explorer etc), and have experienced no problems in loading this new firmware to my player or my computer.
Generally, I have no problems with the performance of the new firmware: my files transfer easily and quickly between my mp3 player and my computer, and (using Windows XP SP2, and WMPv0) I have experience no compatibility issues, as one would hope.
However, I do take issue with the Custom EQ bug that the new firmware accentuates on the Zen Touch. I am sure that Support has doubtless been contacted by other people regarding this problem, but to summarise, with version 2.0.05 of the firmware installed, usage of the Custom EQ function on the Zen Touch severely impaires the volume of the player, and consequently the enjoyment of myself, the customer.
I would like to ask Support whether Creative plans a 'fix' firmware update to eliminate this bug in the firmware in the near future? I am not concerned with any new features to the player with a future firware 'fix' release (although they would not be unwelcome!), since Creative did not promise any such features in the first place. However, I feel that since Creative advertised the Zen Touch as having a customisable graphic equaliser - from Creative's own press release: "Supporting both WMA and MP3 formats, the Zen Touch deli'vers crystal-clear audio, thanks to a signal to noise ratio of 98dB, which can be customised using the built-in, four-band graphic equalizer with eight equalization presets." - a firmware update should not render an advertised feature of the product effecti'vely useless.
Please could Support acknowledge the disappointment I feel with this fairly fundamental flaw to an official product upgrade, and provide assurances (or take measures to seek assurances from whoever makes decisions upon such issues) that a firmware 'fix' update will be released in the near future?
I end by saying that I have only ever bought Creative mp3 players, and to date I have been happy with the products I have purchased, but if basic product flaws such as the Custom EQ being 'broken' by official firmware updates are allowed to go unaddressed (especially with the fact that this has doubtless come to Creative's attention through Support/the official discussion forums etc) then Creative may lose customers like myself in the future to rival companies.
Thanks for your time, and I await your reply.
    Kind regards,
    Lawrie Ward

  • Creative and the Trade Descriptions

I bought a Creative Zen Micro about 2 months ago. of the reasons i bought it as opposed to the Ipod was so i could synch my Outlook contacts / calendar with the device.
With the latest firmware for MTP support 2.002 and an XPsp2 machine running outlook 2003 with all the recommended patches from microsoft, the synch doesn't work.
    What say you creative ?
When is a suitable firmware relase coming out for this product that allows it to DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.
I wouldn't be surprised if a class action lawsuit was filed against you for selling goods under false pretences.

Thats not the release that i am running. You said Zen Micro (2..02)
    like i said i am running 2.00.2.
If i do a software autoupdate i am informed that Zen Micro (2..02) is available however

Beta releases are meant for testing and validation, so you may encounter problems with a beta release that could possibly result in loss or corruption of data, require a reformat of the device, or, in extremely rare cases, may render the device inoperable.
