MTS / M2TS Import

Hey
How can i import 50fps footage from my camcorder Panasonic HDC-SD900 to Final Cut Pro X?

Maybe your Panasonic camcorder is not supported by FCP.
And you should first convert M2TS to mov, or mp4 or avi, then import the converted video to FCP.
I am using Total Video Converter by eTinySoft, as its famous windows brother, a user-friendly video tool .
You can search both on App store or Google(if your OS is lower than 10.6.6)

  • The best Mac MTS Splitter-Editing/splitting AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos successfully on Mac

I have recorded a long video with Sony HDR-CX700 Camcorder, but there are some parts I would like to cut off. I once thought a video converter is a must for cutting videos. But I search for a long time , found may spliter and converter just for windows, no MAC. Yesterday, my friend recommended me try Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac. Not only can help me  frame by frame cutting/splitting AVCHD without re-encoding, but also can help me convert mts to Apple ProRes and  AIC  codec for Final Cut Pro/ iMovie.
I think should have many users need a program that allows for  (frame by frame) cut AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos files. If you are looking for any frame accuracy solution to do with the AVCHD videos encoded in MTS format on Mac,  Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac is the best choice for you. This is the first Mac software which can help HD camcorders users to realize frame by frame editing/splitting AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos successfully on Mac.
Here I would like to demonstrate the simple steps to cut AVCHD MTS/M2TS videos files without re-encoding on Mac.
Step 1. Load AVCHD MTS videos to Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac.
    - To load AVCHD videos from camcorder
Connect camcorder to computer with USB cable, and run Aunsoft Final Mate for Mac, you will be asked to follow the wizard. Otherwise, click the Camcorder button to load camcorder videos.
You can choose to backup the videos to computer or just import videos. Here we just select Import to add videos from camcorder to the program.
Step 2. Add MTS files for split with no recompression.
Click the Add movie button, and a movie for lossless output will be created by default. Select the MTS files you would like to cut mts from the Camcorder tab, drag and drop to the movie.
    Step 3. Split/Cut AVCHD video.
From the timeline, you may notice the vernier, which is used as time pointer. Click on the Vernier, and move to the timeline you want to cut, and click the "Split" button to cut the video. You may also click the Split button when the video plays to the point you want to cut.
Then click on segment you want to cut off from the timeline, and then click the Delete button next to the Split button to remove the unwanted part.
Step 4. Export videos without conversion.
Choose Export in the main interface, and click the OK button to get videos without recompression. You will get the cutted/splitted AVCHD without quality lost in a few minutes.

I hear good things about ClipWrap. The other good one is Voltaic HD  from Shedworx.
I suggest that you read their websites and choose the best one for you.
I think they have demo versions.
If you import directly from your camera, you don't need these.
Also, for future reference, you can use the Create Camera Archive feature on the Import screen. This will save your AVCHD files exactly as they are on your camera, but it will also preserve the metadata from your camera so that iMovie can import it later. It is a good way to save the contents of your camera at its original size and full quality.
When you import AVCHD into iMovie it is converted into Apple Intermediate Codec for better performance, but it will be a larger file size because it is less compressed.
With ClipWrap, you have the option to keep the file at its original size, but I would not recommend this for performance reasons. (But you can try it if you have a powerful Mac).

  • Free MTS / M2TS converter for FCP X

How can i convert MTS or M2TS for free so i can use it in FCP X?

    Hi maivo252
Professional MTS video converter must have a comprehensive format support, not only to support a variety of high-definition video camera brands such as Sony, JVC, Panasonic and other video files mts/m2ts recording, but also supports output to any popular video formats such as AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, MPEG ... user chosen at random. The most important point, converting the output video file format is used not only to meet the needs, and to strictly maintain its quality HD video, like MTS, reached its 1080P video resolution.

  • 10.0.0.6 but still not M2TS import issue

Arf, i was expecting that the .6 upgrade will propose the possibility to directly import M2TS file format coming from my Sony Z5 pro, but that format was not recognise.
Is there any hope to see that !?

    Well,
after have tryed free software as Media Converter, Free MTS M2TS converter or "soft priced" iHDClip but none can correctly convert M2T file to something "just rewarped".
So i've finally right now decided to but close 50eur ClipWrap, allready proposed on this forum, and it quickly convert my M2T file to MOV rewrapped format, without audio desynchro. I should now test importation, but i'm sure it will work fine.
Really don't understand why Apple don't include that in FCPX !

The edits are apparently only linked with the original 0001.MTS source clip but extend beyond the actual range of the actual source clip. At the time I thought it was weird that premiere displayed the whole string of clips as one (with one name and no breaks) but it all works in the original project file but cannot be transferred to another location without multiple clips showing Danger Stripes.I need to move it and preserve the dozens of motion and opacity edits linked to the apparently oversized timeline clip. HELP!! any ideas?
I did not nest any clips or sequences, premiere just seemed to combine the clips under one name when I moved them to timeline.
    I am using CS5.

  • Edit and convert MTS/M2TS free

I like taking videos with my Cannon camcorder to freeze the sweet moments surrounding me. But it was not an easy thing to play the mts/m2ts videos recorded on the portable devices. when searching for the free solution, I found macx video converter free edition. It can convert any HD videos MKV, M2TS, AVCHD and SD videos AVI, MP4, MOV, FLV etc to the video that can be played on iPhone, iPad, iPod, and other devices. Moreover, I can use it to cut off the part I don't like, merge many videos into one, add my favorite music as background.
It's easy to use. Just a few clicks, I can transfer the videos from my camcorder to my iPad.
Surely, handbrake is another good choice, but I think its setting is a little complicated. The simpler the better.
Any friend wants to transfer the camcorder videos to your mobile phone or tablet, you  can have a try.

OK, this macx video converter free edition is free and easy to use , I am also like something simple but good to use, and free. Thx for your suggestions.

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • Blocky Pixellated .M2T Import of clips trimmed in MPEG2VCR

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem with CS3 that I was not experiencing with PPro 2.0. This is on a clean install/format/OS on a new machine, XP Pro, Quad Core Pentium, 2GB ram, two 500gb sata drives. (I tested and the same problem happens on my older machine, so it's not machine-specific.)
My workflow is I have many, many short .M2T clips 1080/60i from the Canon HV20. I can import these raw clips into CS3 fine, no problems. However, with most, I use Womble MPEG2VCR to first "trim" the clips and delete some unwanted footage at the beginning and end of each clip (and to save HDD space). This does not re-encode the clips, and I save the trimmed clips to a new TS file with the .M2T extension.
In PPro 2.0, these 'trimmed' M2Ts played perfectly and could be edited just fine on the timeline, adding transitions/effects/etc. alongside the 'raw' untrimmed M2Ts. However, now in CS3, when I import the MPEG2VCR trimmed clips, I get a 1st frame of all red, then after terrible pixellated and blocky playback, with some all red frames interspersed in there as well. I am just guessing, but it seems like CS3 has lost knowing where to find the I frames and is having a problem putting back together the sequence of IPB frames.
Strange thing is, if I save the trimmed clips as an MPEG Program Stream file (.MPG extension) in MPEG2VCR, those clips import and play perfectly in CS3. When I look at the properties of both files in CS3, all the details are exactly the same for both files (except size, the MPG file is just slightly smaller than the M2T version).
I know the obvious and slightly sarcastic answers to my problems :) -- just import as MPG! Or don't import M2Ts at all! Use an intermediary like Lagarith lossless AVI or Cineform! But I really don't want to do that, as I have thousands of M2Ts I need to import and don't want to convert all of them to AVI if it's not needed for my rather basic editing needs. And I'm concerned if I import some clips as M2T and some as MPG, if I then go to export the finished timeline as M2T there may be a problem. (I know probably not, but i'd feel safer keeping everything consistent as M2T for the importing).
So does anyone know how to fix this problem? I know I could go back to PPro 2.0 but I have a big investment in CS3 and I like its new features. Thanks guys (and gals) for your help in this forum.
    Regards,
    Patrick

    Thanks Howard.
As another experiment, I tried trimming an M2T file in Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD (their replacement for MPEG2VCR) and the trimmed clip again plays back pixellated in PPro CS3 but ok in other programs.
Rather than just throw in the towel and go back to 2.0, I'd really like to know the root cause of why this is happening, and why the files work ok in 2.0 but not in CS3. My understanding is that a TS file (transport stream) and MPG file (program stream) are identical except that the TS (M2T) file adds a few additional error correction bits for carriage of the signal over less reliable carriers, like broadcast. There must be something with those bits that are changed by trimming in MPEG2VCR, even though it is supposed to be a GOP-accurate editor, which other players can correct for but not CS3.

  • AVCHD (MTS/M2TS) No Audio in After Effects CS6

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a lot of footage, which are .MTS files. When I import them into After Effects CS6, there is no Audio, even in Premiere. I cannot convert the footage, as it will take too long because there is over 250 clips.
    Thanks!

    Hi RaffM8,
Ran into this problem with a friends video footage.
As you are on a mac you need to decompress these files first and then bring them into AE / Premiere.
Excellent article here on what to do and how to do it.
    http://blogs.lsa.umich.edu/issmediacenter/2012/10/15/converting-mts-files-for-macs/
You may need to purchase a program like Clipwrap or you can use Handbrake for free.
The article above explains how to do this for Handbrake.
I know you say you can't convert as it will take too long, but I tried all sorts of work arounds and I couldn't get the audio to work until I converted the files.
Sorry I know this is a pain and not what you wanted to hear, but I tore my hair out trying to get the audio to work and converting the files was the only thing that worked for me. I genuinely hope that someone else has a better solution than mine and that it's an easy fix.
    Hope this helps.

  • FIRESTORE M2T import issue to CS2

I am editing my HDV footage (m2t files) in CS2...and have been for quite sometime. Just recently, the import has become EXTREMELY sluggish and Premier is not playing well with the files. Now-the files are huge-it's a longform project so they are the 9 minute clips that the Firestore breaks them into. I have spoken to 'tech support' at Focus Enhancements and they tell me of some 'GOP' issue and that none of the CS platforms will handle those files correctly-funny-it's been fine for 3 and half years-why now?
Does anybody have a suggestion/solution/workaraound for this? I am PC based with a Matrox RT.X2 set up.
    Thanks!

I had a client that came in once with a camera that used M2T files and I ended up downloading and installing an app that converted them to AVIs.  After that, Premiere didn't have a problem with them.  It's been a while and the computer's been wiped since then, but I did a quick search just now for M2T converter and quite a few hits came up.  Take a look at http://www.m2tconverter.com/
As to why it would suddenly stop working, I'm not sure.  How large are your 9 min clips in Megs?  Is your hard drive formatted NTSC or FAT32?  Have you ever done clips 9 mins long before?

  • AME CC 2014 and .mts file import bug?

Had a situation where attempting to open a .mts file by right-clicking and choosing AME 2014 produced an error stating the file couldn't be read, but if I opened AME first and then imported the file, everything worked fine.  Anybody else experience this?

I seem to recall the previously, when I imported a file into AME, no preset was applied until I selected one. Is that incorrect?
Or is the correct workflow to select the preset, then import the file?
As it is now, I have one extra step if I happen to not want the preset that was applied on import, I need to delete it - after adding the preset I do want. Seems an odd way to work to me.

  • .MTS, .m2t files and ClipWrap?

Once again I am totally confused!
I thought that ClipWrap was an app to convert AVCHD video files to AIC, ProRes etc.
However, I cannot get it to work.
It asks for .m2t files but the AVCHD files I am experimenting with are .MTS and are completely greyed out and impossible to get into ClipWrap.
I had better explain that these files are the ones supplied on the FCE 4 Editing Workshop DVD. They are early AVCHD with a 1440x1080 size, so may not be exactly the same as the latest cameras.
So can anyone explain what .m2t and .MTS files are and whether ClipWrap will work with AVCHD?
I have no problem Logging and Transferring them into FCE 4.

Upgrade to the current version for .mts files.

  • AVCHD .mts files imported but optimised files play fast in QT and FCPX 10.1.1

    Hi Guys
Panasonic HC-V700 AVCHD .MTS files (from within the 'Stream' folder) imported and optimised into FCPX 10.1.1 but the imported/optimised clips (found in the Transcoded Media>High Quality Media folder) play too fast in QT and FCPX 10.1.1 . Was able to do this fine until yesterday.
Using OSX 10.9.1 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with just 4GB RAM (hoping to get faster, souped-up new iMac very soon).
When playing the 1080/50p clips on the camera's video player they play at normal speed. Weirdly, today, FCPX has 'acknowledged' the camera on the import window despite the 1080/50p footage (previously it didn't show the camera as a valid import 'archive' on the import screen). Now, on the import window whenever I play a clip it also plays too quick.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Warm regards
    Peter

When attempting to play the .MTS files in import I'm getting the 'dropped frames' error message:
"Issues that may affect playback include available memory, disk speed, graphics performance, and processor performance.
You may be able to get better performance by doing the following:
    - Use proxy playback by changing the Media setting to 'Proxy' in the Viewer Options pop-up menu. (Requires proxy media.)
    - Optimize your source clip media."
Could the lack of RAM in this iMac actually cause the video to speed up in FCPX? (weird)

  • MTS clips import no audio

I'm importing from an SD card, MTS clips. There are 212 of them, and for some reason, the last 20 or so are coming in without audio. I deleted them, and reimported from the camera itself and no luck, same thing (video and no audio). Any ideas what I did, how how to fix it? I'm new to PP, first time production.

  • Avchd (mts) iMovie importing

after reading a number of threads and comments - i stubbled upon a solution that idk if others have posted -
I have a new canon vixia HF M500 - records in avchd - to upload both to upload from the SD card in my macbook pro slot - you need to "import from camera"
for what ever reason the macbook sees the card as the camera
Anyone smart enough to explain this apparent simple solution to what seemed like a "copy-convert-import" hassle

Some people drag their .mts files off the card and store them on the Mac. They find that iMovie does not know how to handle them without the context of all the folders on the card. In this case, they must be converted.
So the best way to do it is to import directly from the card, or alternatively, to use the import screen to Create a Camera Archive. This will make a copy of the contents of the card, but will preserve the folder structure, so iMovie can import it.
