MTU settings

how do I change the MTU settings to auto, 1364 or higher?!?!

pc user 111093, Welcome to the discussion area!
None of Apple's base stations modify the MTU. Therefore there is no MTU setting in AirPort Utility.
If you need to modify the MTU, you must do it on the device connected to the AirPort Express (AX).

  • Settings don't have MTU settings for Xbox Live

I've been having problems connecting to Xbox Live. All of my PCs wired and wireless can connect to the internet except for my 2 Xbox 360s one wired and one wireless. Some times it says that there isn't enough MTU or can't connect to the network when I follow their steps to fix it. It just keeps dying on me.
I was wondering if the Configuration page has MTU settings?

I don't know which modem/router you are using (guessing it's some model by Actiontek) but read my post about getting connected to Xbox Live with an Actiontek router.  Even if you don't have the same model, you probably will find something useful there.  Also, I said this in the post but in case you don't see it, with these modems/routers, you cannot connect wirelessly, you must connect by ethernet or you will get errors.  The link is below, hope this helps!

  • Help setting MTU settings so I can connect set up Xbox Live..

Ok, so I'm trying to set up my Xbox to my wireless internet via a wireless adaptor. I've been working on configuring the network, and after many different problems I got to the error message that said that I needed to change the MTU settings of my router. Well my router is the AirPort Extreme, and all the posts I've looked at thus far say that it's impossible to change the MTU settings of the router. How can I connect my xbox to the internet then? I can't hardline it right into the router because it's in a different room.....
    Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Sorry, that this is not going to help your immediate problem, but none of the Apple AirPort routers have an adjustment or setting for MTU, therefore packets are sent through the Airports "as is". In other words, the packet size is not changed.
I'm afraid that your only real option would be to change the MTU setting on each computer or device on the network.
Since you can't run an ethernet cable to the Xbox, (which would be the best and fastest way to connect), you might want to consider using a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home. I've found this type of connection be faster and far more reliable than wireless, but of course your mileage may vary.

  • How to make manual MTU settings stick?

    Hi all,
After 3 1/2 weeks of troubleshooting with my new ISP for problems loading some webpages, they told me to change the MTU settings from 1500 to 1400 in System Prefs > Network > Airport > Ethernet . When I do this all is good and websites load. Hooray!
However, each time I reboot it goes back to 1500. Annoyingly enough it says  "Confirgure manually" and "MTU Standard 1500" and won't let me change it then. I click MTU and Custom and it comes up with 1400 in the box. I click OK, then Apply and then exit the system prefs. However, it doesn't stick. If I open it back up it's back to "Confirgure manually" and "MTU Standard 1500".
I have to run the chrons and fix permissions and then it will let me reset it to 1400 and it will stick. Until the next time I reboot.
Does anyone know of a way to make this stick?
    Thanks.

A new location didin't help. I finally called Applecare. We deleted the airport and network configurations from the harddisk >library>system config folder. Created a whole new configurartion. But it didn't work either. I booted into a clone, ran Disk Warrior, and then the new configuration worked. Ahah! So I restored the configurations from my clone, ran Disk Warrior, and no dice.
Finally, I restored the config settings (plist files) from the backup, and then deleted preferences.plist file which we had not previously deleted. Ran Disk Warrior again (which may not have been necessary). Rebooted and voila! it is now sticking through several reboots and all my other old network settings are still there.
It looks like there may have been some disk error that corrupted the preferences.plist. Fingers crossed that this fix works.

  • Cannot connect to the PSN? MTU settings changed

Good morning, I've been having an issue with the console over the past 2 days, where I am not able to connect to the PSN. It occured yesterday morning without any signs or for any reason. I didn't have a power outage, network connections were not interrupted. I signed off yesterday morning for a few hours, I then went to re-connect and couldn't.
I have read online that changing the MTU settings helps, and I had a little joy last night for a few hours where I was able to connect with MTU codes 1472 and 1473, however this morning I'm back to not being able to connect. I have tried unplugging and resetting all consoles and network devices, and I have reset my network settings back to factory, but I have had no luck. SONY are saying the servers are fine, but I am connected to the internet fine on my console and can browse, and use apps like Netflix and the BBC iPlayer. A various number of my friends and family are having the same problems nationwide so I doubt very much whether it is not something on SONY's end. Any information regarding this matter, tips and tricks or if anyone is having the same issue, please reply. Would be good to get some idea of what people are doing to solve this, if anything. Thanks for reading,Sam

Since you changed the password on the router, you have to input the new password in the printer.

  • MTU settings in IOS

My corporate office has recently changed their WiFi infrastructure and made life suck for Mac users.  We have found a work around for the issue by changing the MTU settings on all machines to 1300.  Unfortunately we have many iPads that require the same network.

  • MTU settings in my router

I am having problems trying to find out how to fix my MTU settings in my router. I cannot even find the MTU settings on my routers page. How do I find this so that I can fix it manually in order to have enough to get online through my xbox 360 please.

    humanjoystick,
Once you log into your router
    Go to my network
Click on network settings on the left hand side
    Click on Broadband Coax
You should get Broadband Coax properties
    Click on settings
There you can change the MTU.
Please let us know if you need additional information.
    Thanks,

  • MTU settings on Weblogic

We are running WL 5.1 SP6 on Win 2K. All our html/jsp pages are stored in our NETAPP
filer, and when we run NetDiag on the server we get the following results.
    Performing transport layer diagnostics.....
Average size of CIFS TCP packets received from host: proweb2.proweb.p is 233.
This is less than the MTU (1500 bytes) of the interface involved in
    the data transfer.
The maximum segment size being used by TCP for this host is: 1460.
Low average size of packets received by this system might be
because of a misconfigured client system, or a poorly written
    client application.
    Press enter to continue
Is there any settings, config to alter the MTU settings between Weblogic and NetApp
    for improved data transfer rate?
I am seeing a configuration setting called "ip_path_mtu_discovery" in this newsgroup
and can someone educate me on what this setting supposed to do, and how to use
    it?
    Thanks
    Subbu

There's unfortunately no way to do this. Not that I know if anyway.

  • MTU settings restriction

    Hi,
I can't seem to find mention of this anywhere, but I am having a problem with the manual settings in Network>Ethernet>Advanced>Hardware>MTU
As part of a temporary fix for a mess up with my ISP, I had MTU set at 900 for my MacBookPro.
This was fine on Snow Leopard, it as running fine yesterday.
I upgraded last night and now there seems to be a range limit from (1280-1500).
Is there a way to force the ethernet device to 900 MTU?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    J

Ok after a bit more research this seems to be an ipv6 minimum requirement.
Seeming as the entire planet is still using ipv4 by default, is there a way to either disable ipv6 to allow this lower MTU or some other workaround?

  • RWIN, MTU settings needed so I can tweak my internet settings in terminal

    Hi
I wondered if anyone can help me tweak my internet settings?? I live right next to my exxchange and my ISP stats I should be getting about 7500.00Kbps, but the highest I have ever had is 6049.58 Kbps 343.45 Kbps.
Usually is it pretty constant between 3000.00 - 5000.00Kbps
Does anyone have any ideas on the setting I can change? Here are my current settings from speedguide.net

But specifically for mtu, you should try:
    sudo ifconfig en0 mtu xxxx
in a terminal windows, assuming xxxx the desired value for MTU, and you"re connected through ethernet.
    It won't resist a reboot.
If the MTU path discovery is Ok on your ISP network, it won't bring you much, though.

  • [Solved] MTU settings lost with wifi connection

    Hi
    After reboot the
ip link show | grep mtu
    shows me
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT
2: eth0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT qlen 1000
3: wlan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP mode DORMANT qlen 1000
But after a few second if I ran again this command it's show me
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT
2: eth0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT qlen 1000
3: wlan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 576 qdisc mq state UP mode DORMANT qlen 1000
I cannot ran anything except Tilda, but mtu is changing from 1500 to 576
    My /etc/rc.local is
    #!/bin/bash
    # /etc/rc.local: Local multi-user start-up script.
ip link set wlan0 mtu 1500
Why it's change without any reason?

Are you using dhcp? If so, dhcpd will helpfully adjust your MTU to what the network claims it wants. However, this can cause problems in various cases. (It stopped me accessing aur from home, for example.) If you would rather it not do this, comment the line in /etc/dhcpd.conf like so:
    #option interface_mtu

  • Mtu settings on Android 4

I own a Xperia Arc S with Android 4 installed.
Unfortunately my internet provider requires, for the tcp/ip connection, a MTU setting of 1484 istead of the standard value 1500.
The Sony mobile support told me the phone has no way of setting such a parameter (unless I root it) and I do not wish to "root" the phone as I do not want to loose the warranty.
Is there any way or any tool to modify the value of the mtu parameter without rooting the phone?
Additionally, if there is no other way but rooting the phone, is it possible to set it permanently (as in an android tablet of mine, already rooted, I have to reset the parameter any time I switch the wifi on...)?
Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.
