Much Higher Temps after 10.5.2 Update! Help, SR 2.2GHz MBP

After installing 10.5.2 this afternoon, I've noticed my SR 2.2GHz MBP is running at about 120F instead of it's usual 90F or less. I've also heard another user on a different site say this. It's been several hours since update (no finder or spotlight indexing) and I'm trying to figure out what it wrong. I have a little fan blowing cold air on to my computer now to try to keep it cool, because heat killed my iBook and I want my MBP as cool as possible.
Thanks in advance!!

Did you ever check Activity Monitor? It is in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Open it and under "Window" in the menu bar select "Activity Monitor". Select "All Processes" at the top. The bottom two CPU Usage boxes should be mostly black if you aren't doing much. If you see a lot of red or green, you have something running that is hogging the CPU. Scroll down the CPU column and see if you can find something using 80%-99% of the CPU. If so, highlight it and quit it by clicking on the red stop sign icon at the top. Printers sometimes hang and cause this. I had Software Update hang on my Mac. If you can find and kill the process, it should allow things to return to normal.
I also did the update to 10.5.2 and several others since and did not experience this problem.
Good luck!

  • High temp after installing more RAM

Got my blackbook delivered a week ago. On monday I finally recieved 2 ram modules of 1gb each. After the installing I noticed a temp increase of 20º C. Core temp was 45º C with 2x256 chips. Now it is at 64º C with 2gb ram.
    So... Is this normal??

It can be normal depending on the quality of the RAM you bought. Try resetting your PRAM…

  • My iPad and my phone are MUCH more unstable after downloading the latest update 8.3. Watch ESPN drops frequently. And other apps seem start and stop. Very annoying

Any help anticipated? Safari just closed twice trying to post this note!

If the problem continues you may want to consider backing up your iPad and restoring it to Factory Settings. This will reload a fresh copy of iOS.

  • IPad mini retina constantly reboots after iOS 8.1 update - help!

    Hello,
I've downloaded on iPad mini Retina 16 GB iOS 8.1 update and installed it directly from the device (so no iTunes involvement). After it got installed with black apple on white screen (process seemed to be finished) - it started rebooting, but instead of starting up it shows shortly (for just a second) blue screen, after goes black and then reboots again - and all this in constant flux: white screen with black apple - blue flash - black screen - white screen with apple. Connecting to iTunes doesn't make anything - it doesn't recognise the device while in state of reboot.
    What can I do?
    Help!

    Hey there,
Got exactly the same problem here. Can't even reset/ shut off the device, so it keeps on flashing with the blue screen.

  • Photoshop acting buggy after 10.6.5 update help please

So after I get a work-around for the bluetooth problem i can't seem to  solve, my photoshop is totally screwy. First it's cs4 extended and my  macbook pro is 3.06 with 6gb ram. I never had problems before the update  and I've done everything you can think of to fix it . Reset pram, power  reset, repaired permissions, purged photoshop, reinstalled photoshop,  allocated all ram to photoshop, downloaded the fan utility thinking my  computer was overheating and adjusted the fans to run cooler, no fix.   etc, etc.
The problem is that when i'm working the screen the main window does not  show changes, like when i use the select tool, i get no dancing ants?  If i change the gradient I can see the thumbnail on the right change,  but the main image does nothing for a very long time... I have to wait  like 20 seconds for anything to show on the main screen while I'm moving  my mouse around and selecting different tools to see if it's frozen.  It's not frozen, but just taking forever to show me anything... I try to  select text, but nothing highlights, but if I change the text, it does  change, i just can't see it on the main window! Photoshop is all of a  sudden taking up 120% of my processing when i have a 6mb file open and  nothing else.
Please offer suggestions on what i can do. Disk utility/repair didn't  find any errors. all my other program seem to be running fine, just  photoshop is screwed up. I don't have any plug-ins. or anything  different than before I updated. (well besides my bluetooth not working  correctly) this is very frustrating.
Please offer some suggestions, but i've tried everything i could find  and nothing seems to work, nor do i seem to have any other problems...
I am about to smash the computer I'm so frustrated.

    Tahnks for the reply.
I've switched users, ran onyx , cleared everything, 5 or 6 time. etc, etc. I'm not new to Macs and diagnosing problems, but this is driving me frickin crazy!
Photoshop cs4 11.0.1 does it and even reinstalled 11 does it. I've cleaned up fonts and reverted to my fonts library from june and still problems.

  • Freeze at startup after System and Firmware update - Help!

I took the automated system upgrade last Sunday including updates on a bunch of Apple applications, OS X 10.4.6 (it was included if I recall correctly) and a SMC Firmware update. After downloading all files and installing them my iMac restarted. After that the SMC Firmware upgrade started and I followed the instructions ending in another restart.
This is where my problems began. At this startup I got through the grey screen with the Apple logo and got so far as to the blue screen with the Mac symbol saying something like "starting up". The progress bar started moving and froze after reaching about a fifth of its final length.
As this was a firmware update I didn't want to interrupt anything so I left it for the night (no progress in the morning) and for the next day. Still no progress when I came home from work so I shut it down (pulled the power cord).
Efter this I've tried to fall back using the Firmware Restoration CD available at Apple's support page, but this doesn't work. My iMac refuses to start the installation of the old Firmware even though I follow the fallback instructions. (After starting the computer and keeping the power on button pressed I wait for the front light below the screen to first flash rapidly for a while and then do a SOS (three short, three long and three short blinks). The SOS however, never happens, instead the computer proceeds directly to the grey startup screen before it freezes when it reaches the blue screen.
I have no clue to what to do. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    iMac 20" (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    minxlj,
It is not my intention to be rude, however, it is my intention to be direct. Do you have a G5 or do you have an Intel Core Duo, or perhaps even both? Because right now your signature says you have a G5, which has PPC chips in it made by IBM, not Core Duo chips made by Intel.
The reason I ask is because, just as in another Discussion here in the Intel forum, you are responding to information that appears to not apply to the computer you say you have and you are giving information that, if you have a G5, does not apply to the computers of the folks here in the Intel forum.
Could you please clear that up by correcting your signature so everyone here knows you are comparing oranges with oranges and not mangos with oranges?
    Staffan,
As far as the SMC Firmware update and the Firmware Restoration CD, the two items are not related. The Firmware Restoration CD is only for the Firmware Update that came out in mid-April. It is intended for someone whose computer messed up in the application of the Firmware Update and is intended to bring their computer back to its Firmware state prior to the botched Firmware Update. It will not assist you if you had problems applying the SMC Firmware Update from early May.
If I am understanding your description of your Mac's problem it sounds if if you have successfully installed the SMC firmware update, but now have a possible 3rd party satrtupitem that is not allowing your Mac's OS X to fully boot. You can check to see if both the Firmware Update and SMC Firmware Update have been successfully installed by booting your Mac into safe Mode by pressing the "Shift" key during startup. This boot will take longer than normal because it is verifying and repairing your directory. After the desktop appears, go to Apps/Utilities/System Profiler. In the Contents section, highlight Hardware and Hardware Overview should show; Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B03 for the Firmware update and SMC Version: 1.1f5 for the SMC Firmware Update.

  • Problems after installing new security update-help?

Hi, how can I verify what I recently downloaded on my mac. I installed the security update from software update, and i want to make sure I downloaded something intended for my machine. I have doubts as my machine runs like **** now. Apps take forever to open, screensaver comes on when its set to never, printer won't work, etc. Also, if it was just a bad download, can I just try loading it again over the last one? First, I'd love to see what i downloaded. Thanks. In a bind. Never had this happen before. Running 10.3.9
    m

    Hi Matthew,
First of all, you should be able to check in your HD/Library/Receipts folder to see what has been installed by looking for the .pkg of it.
re: "I installed the security update from software update, and i want to make sure I downloaded something intended for my machine"
You should not be offered updates that are not intended for your System through Software Update. Software Update, as far as I know, reads the .pkg files in your Receipts folder and will offer what you need from that. (I believe that is correct....perhaps someone will correct me if I'm wrong)
Did you Repair Permissions from Disk Utility before and after the update?
If not I would try running Repair Permissions (HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions).
I've found that with Security Updates that it is very important to Repair Permissions before and after updating.

  • Safari quits on launch after 10.4.11 update - help!

    Hello there,
Has the above happened to any of you? If so any tips on how to fix it?
I've tried repairing permissions, checking for corrupt preference files, deleting caches, etc. and nothing.
Thank you very much for your time and effort,
    Jacobo

Have you even installed any third-party Safari enhancers? In several reports here and elsewhere on the 'Net, there seems to be a nearly 1:1 correlation between third-party browser hacks and problems with 10.4.11.
People also seem to have better results downloading the update and installing it manually instead of letting Software Update handle the task.
Here's an article on MacFixit that might help:

  • I ended up with Safari 2.0.4 after 10.4.11 update - help

I had Safaributtons installed with 2.0.4 and I ran software update. Update installed Safari 3.0.4 and it would crash whenever I tried to open it. So I removed Safari 3.0.4 and reinstalled 2.0.4 off the installer CD. Software update says I'm up to date. How can I get Safari 3.0.4 back on my machine?

I figured it out. I downloaded the 10.4.11 update and installed it off my desktop.

  • Magic Trackpad not working on iMac after 10.8.5 update Help!

The Magic Trackpad was working fine antil I did the OS X Lion 10.8.5 Update yesterday and the trackpad has not worked since.

Look your System Preferences - Trackpad and see if it needs adjustment. If sill no joy then try doing a SMC reset 3x and if that fails try resetting the PRAM 3X. If you are not familiar with these please click

  • ATV2 crashed after 4.2.2 Update-Help!!!!

Downloaded the update and ATV2 has crashed!  Nothing but an iTunes logo and a micro USB onscreen.  I assume it's asking me to connect to iTunes.  I don't have a micro USB, who does anyway?  Tried to reset everything (power off and on) but to no avail!  Wish I hadn't done the download now!!!!!  Anyone have any thoughts before I am forced to BUY a micro

A network problem; would that be solved any other way?  As for the cable, they KILL you on shipping ANYTHING to Hawaii.  And there is no such thing as 2 Day either.  It's only 3-5 business days.  I'll check with Radio Shack and bite the bullet.  Gotta have my ATV2.
    I appreciate your responses!!!!

I updated to 10.4.4 restarted and BOOM!
I get an do not enter sign. My G5 will NOT START UP!
Well, I'm currently updating my Quad as I write this on my laptop. So, in a few minutes I'll kniow whether or not my upgrade will be like all of the positive comments in another thread or like this single one.
I suppose you will need to startup the problem child with your original DVD and see if you can repair the offending start drive.
    Keep us posted.
I'm off to my computer room to check the Quads status. Later.
