Much more cumbersome than CS2, several questions

I just got back from a 10 day trip having shot about 2000 picutures and dowloading them to Aperture day by day. I had previously used Abobe CS2 but since I have a new Macbook Pro I decided to give Aperature a try. Now I'm not sure I won't regret the decision.
A few quick (I hope) questions.
If I just shot a jpeg instead of Raw+ jpeg for some pictues, doe sthis still show up in Aperture.
When I used to import to iPhoto I could go into Finder and locate either the Raw or JPEG or open the Raw in Adobe Bridge/camera raw. Now, the only thing I see in a Finder Window is an icon for the entire Aperature library. IS there no way to locate individual files?
I don't see anyway to locate the raw files except within Aperture. Does this eman I have no option to process the Raw in anything but Aperture?
While I was on the road, I did process one raw image. Now, the original shows up in the main window, the processed shows up in the thumnail, and I can't seem to bring the processed image back up in the main window. This seems very cumbersone compared to CS2.
thanks for your help,
Jordan

in short, yes. the Aperture library is actually a special folder called a bundle. the OS generally treats bundles as a single file, but actually it is a folder. if you right click on the Aperture library file and choose "Show Contents" it will open the file as a folder. in here you can see all the projects and XML files that make up the library. unless you really know what you're doing, i wouldn't mess with anything in here. the potential for corrupting your library is very, very high.

the easiest way to get your RAW files back out of the Aperture library for something like this is to select an image in Aperture and choose Export->Masters from the File menu. however, if you want to have the choice of editing RAW files with another editor, consider importing the files as referenced rather than managed (see the manual for an explaination of the difference).
While I was on the road, I did process one raw image.

Aperture lets you toggle between showing the master file (unprocessed RAW file) and the version (which is the file with all the adjustments applied). maybe what you were seeing was the master. showing the master could easily be done by accident as the 'M' key is what causes it to toggle. it would show a badge at the top center of the image with the word "Master" if you were viewing the master image though.
good luck,

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple?  I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!

Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

  • My iphone is currently using battery life much more quickly than inthe past, and it also has an icon tht is starying on the screen, to the left of the battery charge percentage, that looks like a lock with a circle around it

i have an iphone that is using battery life much more quickly than in the past, a full charge is going to zero in a half a day or so, with out much use.
an icon is also appearing next to the charge percentage in the top right, and the icon is a circle around a lock
can anyone tell me what the problem is, and what the icon means?

The Icon meas your display orientation is locked to vertical so it wont change when you turn the phone sideways.
First thing you should check with the battery life is multitasking, which also happens to be where the orientation lock can be turned off.  check out   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4211 and go from there

  • OR is taking much more time than UNION

    hi gems..
i have written a query using UNION clause and it took 12 seconds to give result.
then i wrote the same query using OR operator and then it took 78 seconds to give the resultset.
The tables which are referred by this qurey have no indexes.
the cost plans for the query with OR is also much more lesser than that with UNION.
please suggest why OR is taking more time.
    thanks in advance

Here's a ridiculously simple example.  (these tables don't even have any rows in them)
If you had separate indexes on col1 and col2, the optimizer might use indexes in the union but not in the or statement:
Which is faster will depend on the usual list of things.
Of course, the union also requires a sort operation.
    SQL> create table table1
      2  (col1 number, col2 number, col3 number, col4 number);
    Table created.
    SQL> create index t1_idx1 on table1(col1);

  • Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?

so tell me, Why is apple Australia so much MORE expensive than America!?    i have been meaning to pick up a new imac.....and i saw that the exact same type of imac that i want i could pick up in America for a good $600 LESS.... you know, even though our dollar is HIGHER THAN AMERICA'S! *** APPLE!

    Reasons:
    Australian import duties
    Australian taxes on foreign imports
    Australian VAT
Got complaints? Talk to your politicians. Apple has nothing to do with it.

  • Is it the time to go to Google? iTunes is much more expensive than Google Play!

I know that iTunes is amazing. But now that Google Play's started renting movies in my country (Brazil) I guess if iTunes worth it's high price for everything...
I have an Apple Tv, what is very good, however isn't complete as well, per exemple that doesn't have a way to change the subtitle size, what's a really simple feature. Otherwise its items are extremelly expense here in my Country. While a movie is rented by Google for R$ 6.99 (~U$3.49) the same movie is rented by iTunes for U$4.99, so I guess: WHY???
Do you guys have the same felling than I have that Apple has charged so much more money that it would? Anyone here is thinking about migrate to Google Play/Android plataform?
Why do you guys think about all of that?

If you find a better price elsewhere, by all means patronize that other company if you wish. We have no control over pricing here, we just being fellow users, and these forums are for technical support questions, not pricing debates or comments, so further discussion on the matter really isn't appropriate here.

  • Is CLAD real much more difficult than CLAD on-line free demo?

I am about to give CLAD offline (there is no testing center here and a NI representative would be coming to take the CLAD exams of four of us). We / I have practiced the free on-line version of CLAD exam at NI site. I have heard that the real exam is much more difficult. Is this true? What is the diference between the two? (Like passing marks etc).
    Thanks for the help!

The proctored CLAD exam is slightly more difficult than the on-line version. Some of the questions from the on-line exam were on the test as were some of the questions from the example exam. If you handled the material in those two exams well, you should pass. To get 70%, you can get 12 out of the 40 wrong. My feeling while taking the test was that there was no way I had 12 wrong because there are enough easy questions. It's a good test because it forces you to learn some trivial details you may not have paid attention to before.

  • Ibooks much more expensive than kindle books

Is there somewhere within Apple ibookstore that you can raise the issue of a book being much more expensive in ibookstore compared to Aussie Kindle store?

The prices for each ibook are set by the publisher/rights-holder - some might be cheaper on Amazon/Kindle, some in the iBookstore or in one of the other ebook apps/stores (Nook, Kobo).
You can leave feedback for Apple via one of these pages, but only the publisher can change the price :
iBooks iOS app feedback  : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks_ios.html
    iTunes stores feedback : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Time Machine takes up much more space than actually data backed up...

Every time I backup with time machine, it uses up gigs of space on my backup drive, regardless of increment or decrement of data on Mac.  I could put 200 megs since last backup and TM eats 4 gigs.  I don't change the file exclusion selections at all.  Just curious if anyone knows why that is?

I find it hard to believe I added 4gb since last backup.
You'd be surprised. Sometimes you add more than you think. Any downloads, recently edited documents, etc all will add to the total. Plus system files such as browser history are updated and backed up as well. If it has been a few days since your last backup, I wouldn't worry. If this is happening ALL the time and you know that you have been barely using your computer, you may have a problem that needs to be further looked into.

  • After changing from my 3S to a 5, I use much more data than before why?

My Iphone5 uses an accessive amount of data, a lot more than my 3S and I am on the internet the same amount to time.. any clues of why?

Your 5 has more than your 3S.
BTW, Nobody here can know how your iPhone is configured, so you need to supply more info for a better answer.

  • Why is Adobe photoshop Australian pricing so much more expensive than US pricing???

The Adobe pricing policy for Australia is to promote significant overpricing ( sometimes more than 100%!) for both purchased and downloaded products.
I note that purchases of Adobe products through Amazon are also not allowed for Australian customers, when there is no problem for other company products.
What is going on? Adobe should give an honest answer to explain this anti-competitive conduct.

what's bad about being smart business people?  Companies exist to make profits and they will charge what the market will bear.  If the market reacts by not buying because the price is too high, the price will be reduced?  Simple market forces at work - highschool economics.  Apparently, Apple feels their sales in Sweden at the current price point are going well - if you want to change the price, stop buying the product at that price.

I recently ran into a problem with syncing my ipod touch to itunes on my Windows 7 pc. It had previously been synced to my older laptop
and I wanted to change to my newer Windows 7 laptop's itunes library that I had already been syncing with.
Anyway, I started seeing this message that prevents my from syncing:
The iPod "Bill's iPod" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library
    (additional 2.48 GB required)
Not sure if it is talking about my iPod free space or my PC itunes library free space. Either way I have 11.0 GB free space available
on my iPod and 412 GB free space available on my Windows 7 PC.
How do I handle this problem?   Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

It is saying that the iPod does not have enough free storage to sync all the items yu have selected to sync to the iPod. You need 2.48 GB more free on the iPod. You need either to select less to sync or delete some content form the iPod.

  • Lightroom 3 exporting issue: exported JPGs come out with much more noise than original edited files

    Hi all,
My first post here so nice to meet everyone. I've been having some issues with exporting in Lightroom recently. It appeared to happen quite out of the blue. Sometimes when I export my edited .cr2 files as jpgs (in srgb), at a good quality (no less than 85), some of resulting jpgs seem to have exposure higher and/or a horribly large increase in the amount of visable noise. It seems many of the photos which this occurs in have pretty high settings for fill light, but even still, the noise is not visable in lightroom while editing the metadata linked .cr2.
I thought it might be the problem that I'm viewing the final exported jpgs in preview, but I also tried adding them back into the catalog and they look just as off. I just upgraded to 3.3, but it seems to be having the same issue. If anyone can please help, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

No sharpening at all during my export, Ian. Sometimes I sharpen for screen at a standard strength, but I turned it off when I started seeing the extra artifacts but the results of the exports remains basically the same with or without sharpening.
However when I import it seems my photos already have some sharpening on them in the develop module. The settings there are sharpening = 25, radius = 1, Detail = 25, masking = 0. I honestly rarely mess with the sharpening, so I guess I skipped over those settings during the countless hours I have worked with LR! But I assume those are normal post import numbers, correct? I never apply development settings during import, that's why I say that. Thanks for keeping up the conversation and brainstorming Ian! Anyone else also free to chime in.
