Muddled genres/categories

i have a new ipod. i dragged all my music folders from hard disk into itunes in one go and loaded onto new ipod classic 120gig. however, when i browse by genre, the albums are all over the place. How can i ensure that the right album goes into the right genre? Big thanks for any input, i want my ears to ache, not my head!

You'll need to fill in the info tags against all the songs in iTunes and fix any genres that are incorrect. Once you've everything the way you want it sync the iPod to pick up the changes. To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Right click anywhere in the selection and choose Get Info, you'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, choose yes. Choose the Genre you want from the menu or make your own by choosing Custom.
To easily see what songs are in what genre switch on the browser in iTunes, this will allow you to filter your list of songs by any combination of Genre, Artist or Album. In iTunes go to View>Show Browser or on your keyboard press the CTRL and B keys together.

  • Deleting composer tags from genre categories in iTunes (for transfer to iPo

Basically I listen to classical and jazz. I want my iPod to let me scroll through "composer" and show Beethoven etc. but not show every fly-by-night composer of Tin Pan Alley tunes. I could but don't want to delete composers one by one through thousands of tunes. Is there any way to control tags like that?

Garbage...what I'm trying to do is not illegal. In fact, Support is recommending exporting all my Itunes library to CD's then having her burn those CD's to her ITunes account. If this was illegal, I doubt they would be trying to explain methods to do it.
Of course it is illegal. You are sharing music files which you do not own the copyrights for and part of copyright protection is to give the copyright holder the right to distribute the music as they want. You copying your entire library for your friend is infringing on the copy right holders' rights to distribution first and foremost not to mention your friend illegally acquiring music she didn't pay for or was allowed to have for free by the copyright holders.

  • I have a large classical music collection.  As I uploaded into the IMAC needless duplication occurred in the genre classifications.  Some compositions are separated by movement and placed in "LP-Classical" genre, but in duplicated genres. How combine thos

Question:  I have a large classical music collection which I have  uploaded into my IMAC computer. In the process many of the compositions were placed in needlessly duplicated genre categories ( a sonata turns in three SEPARATE "LP-Classical" categories, all 3 movements separated into different "LP-Classical"  categories, one atop the other.  How does one eliminate the foolish duplication and recombine the three movements into one composition? Normal editing techniques do not work for this problem!  Thank you/

  • ITunes App Store no "Categories" menu?

Every category within the iTunes store has its own landing page, complete with a menu of top-level categories. Music and Movies has a Genres menu. Podcasts has a Categories menu. Audio Books has a "Popular Authors" menu where Genres ought to be (huh?) and what does the App Store have?
"App Store Quick Links", with such relatively arbitrary categories as "Comics", "Summertime", and "Zombies!".
Once all of my Zombie needs have been met, what if I'm looking for actual top-level categories such as Productivity, Weather or Business? The most consistent, intuitive thing would be to have a Genres/Categories menu like every other section, putting the user one click away from the content they're looking for.
There ARE methods of getting to specific app categories, but none of them meet the guidelines that Apple itself set out for app designers, such as not making users feel like they have to visit too many screens to go to the content they want, or using the left pane to provide users with a persistent menu of top-level categories. If the iTunes version of the App Store was up for review, it might well get rejected!
(Even the App Store on the iPhone/iPad, the most intuitive App Store interface of the lot, chooses to make top-level categorical content two "clicks" in, instead of one.)
Somewhere there's a UI developer pulling her hair out because Sales&Marketing thinks more apps would be sold if there was a "Zombies!" category where "Education" or "Travel" ought to be.

iTunes apps are for iOS devices such as iPads, iPhones, and the iPod touch.
Apps you download from the Mac App Store are for the Mac OS X.
    Two different operating systems.

  • Separate genres to act independent of each other

i would like to enter multiple genres for a particular album/song so that it appears in multiple genres listed in the browser.
    example:
right now, if i edit the genre information of the radiohead song "idioteque" to read "rock, progressive, electronic", it would create a new genre called "rock, progressive, electronic".
what i would like it to do is include that particular song in separate "rock", "progressive" and "electronic" genre categories. then, when i click on any of those three categories, that song would be included.
i realize that this can be done with smart playlists, as i am currently utilizing that method, but i think it would be much easier if this information was included in the browser.
as an alternative, would it be possible to have a custom browser column that i could congregate with playlists of my choosing?

    Hi Karthik
Default behavior of Adapter engine is EOIO. You will see the messages in queue in RWB. When you remove the configuration for "Maintain order at runtime" from interface determination then PI will process the messages independently. But in RWB as its having EOIO you will see the messages under a queue. But expected is PI should process as EO.

  • Is thare a way to delete extre genres catagories from ipod classis when pluged in to computer I con not finde any way to do so?

Is thare a way to delete extra genres categories from ipod classic? When plugged in to computer I can not find any kind of option?

Of course. Simply change the genre of the songs so that none of your songs have the genre you wish to get rid of.
You have two ways of showing the genre in iTunes. So if you cannot already see the genre, choose one of the following methods:
Select View/As List and then select View/View Options and put a tick-in-the-box for Genre. Now that you can see the genre, simply select the songs with the genre you wish to change and type in the genre you do want.
Select View/Column Browser and then select View/Column Browser/Genre (so that genre is ticked). This time, in the top browser column (genre) scroll down to and select the genre. Now all songs with that genre are shown in one group. Either a.) change them one at a time (if choosing different "new" genres) or b.) select all of them at once - and then select File/Get Info/Info/Genre,  and replace the genre.
A genre is only shown if there is at least one song with that genre.

  • Problem with shuffling a playlist

I made a playlist of holiday music. There are 361 songs on the list. When I play this playlist in order, the iPod shows there are 361 songs on it (songs display 1 of 361, 2 of 361, etc.) But when I turn on shuffle mode, suddenly there are only 66 songs. I can switch back to "normal" order and it's back to 361. I want to play the whole list in shuffle mode. Anyone know how to solve this one?

    That was it! Thank you!!!
    No problem.
will it (1) only put on the iPod the music from the playlists I select, and delete everything else on the iPod
The option you are referring to allows you to select particular artists, playlists, and genres. So what ever you choose to sync for each of these categories will sync to your iPod and yes, everything else that is not selected to sync will be erased.
So if you only selected it to sync a couple of playlists and nothing from under the Artists or Genres categories, only the music in the playlists you select would sync to your iPod. Everything else would be removed. Hope that makes sense.
or (2) sync those playlists automatically and let me manually manage the rest?
You can either manually sync or automatically sync the iPod, not both. Sorry.
I'm not sure any workaround that might make what you want possible. :S If you were, it would more than likely require that you copy the lower bitrate songs from your iPod back into iTunes and then reconfigure your sync settings as desired.

  • Cannot edit song info in iTunes

Under edit>>view options, iTunes has all of these categories that you can select. I can change in the information in the name, artist, album, and genre categories, but I can't edit information in the description or category columns. Is there a way to do this? (I tried looking under Get Info, but that doesn't work either.) I want to be able to have different descriptions or categories for songs in the same album, so the comment feature wasn't helpful either. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition 2002 and iTunes 6.

    Hi ladymahogany, welcome!
    Huh. I can't edit those 2 fields,either.
Look for a 3rd party tag editor on downloads.com.
I think "tag & rename" has had good reviews.

  • ITunes 9 store classical music nightmare

I foolishly upgraded my iTunes from 8 to 9 and now I am finding it much harder to find things. One reason is that Composer and Release Date are no longer displayable in the "See all" view (which requires an extra click and wait to get to). Another reason is this view is divided into pages and sort only works within the current page.
Suppose I want to see the most recent albums by Steve Reich (say). How can I do that with iTunes 9?
Column Browser is no use for classical music either, because it uses Artist rather than Composer to filter for Album. I can't see any way of changing this.
Until searching the store for classical music becomes feasible again, I will go back to buying CDs and importing those. iTunes is simply too much hassle.

I find this and the white background both very irritating. And, on my collections, they have split my Classical genre into two playlists: Classical & Classical Music. Why? I now can't browse in one category of music. I have no way of readily knowing if the two overlap or not, since there are 700+ albums in each slot. I'm all for upgrading the quality of the software engine and improving the experience of using it. But not when there are such ill-conceived changes that make it more difficult. I would like an option to retain genre categories and the store interface.

  • I tunes store will not open

I have a new G5 mac pro cpu w/latest updates. I tunes application opens ok. When I click on Itunes store the entire application shuts down w/an error report to send to apple. No specific error code is listed. Just a long string of code.
I have read various postings of somewhat similar issues yet not exactly. I am unsure where to start. Apple care said this is where you find the answer since their talk thru determines it is not a hardware issue....not much care as far as I am concerned.
My email and internet is working fine.
I go thru a router to the modem for the satellite link.
Thanks for any help you can provide

    i hear you!!!!!!
I have the exact same problem for the last month! its very weird.
I also have all the latest updates and Im running Leopard 10.5.4! everything works fine on my computer. Its really frustrating because it used to work then one day....crash.
I've created a new plist, it not my proxies, it not parental controls. These are some solutions that has helped others on this discussion board but not me.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and it worked 1/2 way.... now i can access the iTunes store without iTunes crashing BUT some content is missing like all the windows on the left with different genre categories is blank, all tabs are blank....???? I don't know why. Maybe you should try to uninstall: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 and reinstall: http://www.itunes.com/download iTunes it may work better for you than it did for me. what have you got to lose right. Just back up all your music: http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n302392
I know this may not be a helpful answer but you not alone! (I was beginning to think I was)
Im gonna keep trying to figure this out when i do ill post the answer.
Because Apple is of no help at all in this matter... I've tried calling them too.
    good luck

  • Radio station tab dissapered?

I was going into the radio station tabs for my iTunes and I double clicked on the Hardrock/metal tab like you normally would to see the stations and all of a sudden the tab itself dissapered. I restarted itunes, updated to recent version, restarted, everything. And the radio station will not come back on the tabs. All the other stations are there.
This is probably something simple I'm not seeing.
But could someone help shine some light on this please?
    And ty.

the list of genres/categories shown in iTunes is controlled by a 3rd party service and will change. Perhaps the stations that were in the hardrock category stopped broadcasting or no longer meet iTunes requirements for stations to make the lists.

  • How can I remove music from my iPhone that's not on a playlist, or checked off in the Sync window in any of the possible categories (Playlist, genre, artist, etc)? HELP! It's taking up SO much space on my phone

How can I remove music from my iPhone that's not on a playlist, or checked off in the Sync window in any of the possible categories (Playlist, genre, artist, etc)? HELP! It's taking up SO much space on my phone but I cannot see a way to remove any of it

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • TV shows care categorized by show. Can you do movies by genre or ?

I have downloaded the fan episodes of Star Trek New Voyages and Star Trek Hidden Voyages. Except for the video quality they play well in Front Row.
The problem is that there are a lot of episodes and they are listed under Movies and not TV Shows. I can't find any way to have the movies grouped be genre or anything else. Is that possible? If not, how do I made the fan created episodes of Star Trek show up under TV shows instead?

A simple solution is to sort your content into sub-folders within your movies folder. You can even use aliases to access content from anywhere else on your network.
The only issue is that they are all under "Movies" in Front Row. Works great though.
    eg. I have
    Movies > TV Shows > Prison Break > Season 2 > Episode 06
    Movies > Movies > Sci-Fi > Enemy Mine
    Movies > Home Movies > 2005 > Paris
You can really organise it any way you like, and use aliases to organise by genre.

  • Changing categorie/genre with iWeb

I started a Wine-Podcast called "BerlinKitchen" and released it with iWeb. Now, I wanted to change my categorie in the iTunes-Store. How could I change it with iWeb? Now, I am by my mistake in the wrong categorie and want to change it to FOOD.

    Thank you for your help,
    Martin

For the first question: I just wanted to use an iweb
template instead of the blogger ones provided but
can't figure out how to do this. Maybe it isn't
    possible.
It's not possible. They are two different systems.
    Second question:
I'm actually wanting to set up a new website under my
domain name. The thing is I've spent hours and hours
putting everything onto my freewebs.com account so
want to know if I can transfer the pages over onto my
domain name without starting from scratch. So I'm
wanting to do the reverse which is transfer all the
stuff from freewebs to my own domain and then use a
    iweb template.
If you are talking about getting a paid hosting account somewhere else along with your domain name, then sure...you should be able to move your site files from freewebs to any other server. But if you are just interested in getting a domain name, you can just get only the domain name and have it forwarded to your freewebs site. And like your first question, it's not going to be easy putting your existing site on an iWeb template. You will basically have to create each page from scratch and copy and paste stuff from the old to the new. iWeb doesn't "import" any HTML files.

  • Editing the drop down Genre list when identifying and categorizing music

How do you edit the list? I want to delete a duplicate entry I made by mistake.
