Muddy dark prints HP Officejet Pro L7780 + Vista Home

When I print in Lightroom 1,1 or Elements 5.0, my prints are dark and muddy. If I print from any other software they are fine. I can only find two HP icc profiles and they make it worse. I managed to install a sony profile and it is much better but still not right. I can not seem to install any other profiles.
I have calibrated my monitor and when I send the files out for printing the prints are perfect. Any suggestions or any links that will give me a step by step method of getting the printer to work better.

Here is an epson video. Won't be your driver dialogs but the info is good.

Not much HP help out there that I know of. Should be able to read between the lines though.
The basics are
- Select the Paper profile in LR
- Select the correct paper in the driver
- Turn off color management in the driver

  • Unable to print to officejet Pro 8000 on home network from other computers on network

Trying to set up the printer to print on the home network.  Running Win XP on a mainframe with the printer connected to it.  I can find the printer via a search, but when I install it and try to print to it, nothing happens.  Tried installing the 64-bit version of the driver on the laptop, which is running Win7 64-bit.  But it will not locate the printer.  Used to run Win7 32-bit and it worked, now that seems to be out of sync also.  Print sharing set up on both computers.

Hello denvershadow1, You may want to take a look at this  Link, and see if there is any useful information to setup your printer for network use.
You would need to install the software/drivers for the printer on all the systems that need to use the network printer.
Since you mentioned some of your systems have Windows7 and also Windows XP,  Here  is the link where you can locate the needed drivers for the different Windows operating systems.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-In-One printer

    I am running Windows 8.1
    The printer status OFFLINE.
It has done this in the past and I have been able to correct it by deleting and reinstalling it (at least back when I was running Windows XP and 7.  Possibly at that time it was the DHCP issue pointed out in a previous post.
Now however, I can remove it and when I add it back, using Control Panel, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer,  it is recognized correctly on the network (shows the IP address I know is in the printer) but when I try to send a test page, I get a pop-up saying it is OFFLINE.  When I status it, it confirms it is offline.
There is no indication at the printers display that it is offline and it shows it is communicating with the network.

I can’t give you more than the info in my question about the model of the printer-HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One printer
I had been using this printer for several years and this has happened a few times in that it required me to delete it and reinstall—that just does not work now. This last time was after I had upgraded to Windows 8.1 however I did that several weeks ago and it has worked okay since then…this is the first time it has stopped working on 8.1 however
    Running Windows 8.1
I tried connecting via wireless and also switched over to wired lan but got same results (Printer Unavailable)
Used DHCP but get the same with static ip address
    Cisco Lynksys E4200 wireless router
Just ultimately get Printer Unavailable when I try to print or status the printer
When I try wireless, I see the wireless icon bright blue like I expect it to

  • Duplex Printing Problem - Word 2007, Vista and HP Officejet Pro L7780

I'm having trouble with duplex printing on my new HP Officejet Pro L7780, from Word 2007, running on a brand new Vista system.  I've also had this same problem (repeatable) with two other computers, running XP Professional/Word 2003, XP Home/Word 2003.  All of the service packs have been installed for the operating system, word, and printer.
If you print a landscape document, using the auto duplex setting for the HP printer, the margins will print out offset by .25 inches, on the left and rigt margins.  So if your margin is 1 inches on right and left, the margins will print to .75 on one side and 1.25 on the other.  This would be annoying, except that I'm trying to print brochures and books, which requires that the pages print out exactly as set up... "close enough" isn't working for me
The way I have replicated this problem is as follows:  set up a document in landscape format, using the default margins.  Insert an image on page one, size it so it takes the full margin area.  On the second page, fill it up with text.  Print the document, selecting the printer properties and setting Print on Both Sides=Automatic.   The easiest way see the problem is by holding the document up to the light.  The front and back margins should match and they don't.
Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.
    Diana

    Diana,
This problem is perhaps much larger than you might have imagined.  We have tried to work with Hewlett Packard for over two years on the duplex printing problems.  In the process, we have expended over 100 hours of effort in troubleshooting the problem which has included updating software, reinstalling software, developing test documents, escalating issues, submitting technical findings, and in purchasing replacements.  Unfortunately, our efforts to interact with Hewlett Packard excalated support have resulted in an aire of apathy, disinterest, incompetence, frustration, redundancy, occasional discourtesy, and an outright lack of professional decorum - something inconceivable of a large, reputable company.
We have identified several problems with duplex printing.  The duplex printing problems include irregular margin increases (.25 to .50 inch), margin shifts, cut-off text, compressed text, and compressed graphics.  Please note that most of these problems are only evident when printing documents from computer applications to the printer.  If the user simply uses the front printer panel to copy in duplex mode, these problems are not always evident.  This suggests that the printer mechanics are capable of properly duplexing and that the problem lies in the drivers.
The problem is evident on the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780, Photosmart L7180, Photosmart C6150, Photosmart 3310, and likely on many, many other HP models.  The problem is evident on many computers (HP, IBM, Toshiba, and Dell), is evident in multiple applicatons (Word, Wordperfect, Excel, Peachtree, Notepad, and many more), and is evident on multiple operating systems (Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, and Microsoft Vista).
We consider ourselves to be extremely polite, patient individuals, but have nearly been driven to outrage by the indignant disregard offered us by HP's escalation support department; a department which should represent the cream-of-the-crop in both service and technical expertise.  Given the ease with which the problem can be duplicated, we expected an extremely quick resolution by HP who, to our knowledge, has never even made the effort to duplicate the problem in-house on our behalf.
Ironically, HP highly advertises their J.D. Powers rated technical support, yet it appears that they actually have extremely poor published consumer rankings in some of today's mainstream computer magazines.  HP technical support makes no apologies for the fact the user cannot use a major feature of their printers, offers no indication that the problem is even being addressed, and off-loads the responsibility by suggesting that we contact Microsoft (who is to blame for this issue).
Thank you, Diane, for your message.  We had a hard time imagining that we were the only one experiencing this problem, especially when HP promotes such a representation.  Which also begs the question why HP plays like the problem does not even exist?  I also fail to understand why HP technical support shows so little interest in a problem that is easily duplicated and adversely affects a major feature of the printer which is commonly used by individuals purchasing equipment for its duplex capabilities.
This is sad because we have been a loyal customer of HP for over twenty-five years.  There was a time when we would have happily endorsed HP's steller products and steller support (provided you could get a problem escalated).  Now, however, they all-too-often appear to offer equipment that fails to support advertised features which is backed up by sub-standard support and extremely expensive ink.  This is an especially sad commentary for users who are buying HP's upper-end printers and computers.
We desire to know if there are others out there experiencing similar problems?  If you have experienced these problems or would like samples of the problems we have duplicated, please respond.  I think the more information we gather, the better our chance of a successful resolution to a serious problem.
    Thanks Everyone!

  • I have a deskjet D1420 and officejet pro L7780 neither print back to front

I have a HP deskjet D1420 and a HP Officejet Pro L7780 and neither one will print the pages from the back to the front.  The option to print back to front has been selected on both printers.
i.e. printing 2 pages and the last page prints first followed by the first page
Any help in resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Please read this post then provide some details.  What operating system?
I do not think the D1420 has an automatic duplexer, but the L7780 should be able to be configured for this.  See the Vista/Windows 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide here.

    1.  Cleaned ink heads.

Purchase a new printer: Because the issue is software related - not reading the blue ink cartrige.

The cyan portion of the printhead may be clogged.  I would suggest running the diagnostics shown here.  If three levels of cleaning of the printheads does not resolve the issue you may need a new printhead.

  • On a HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One printer, is there a toner and where is it?

On a HP Officejet Pro L7780 All-in-One printer, is there a toner and where is it located? I've looked in Products and Supplies and don't see it but my printer is saying that it's low or empty.

By now, you have probably discovered that the L7780 does not use a toner but cartridges.  It actually uses 4 HP 88's.  They are black, magenta, yellow and cyan.  Usually, black is the first to be replaced.  They can be found at Staples, Office Depot and Best Buy.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7780 won't print individual pages of a file

I have a HP Officejet Pro L7780 setup with wireless printing on my network and am using Windows 7 on a 64-bit computer with MSWord 2007. I'm trying to duplex print just specific corrected pages (like pages 7-8) from a file (of pages 1-22) and my printer just won't do it. When I select to print specific pages, the printer just sits there and then the print queue is apparently dumped, as the tray icon just disappears.  The printer will print only all pages of a file or nothing at all. What could be the reason for this and how do I correct it? Thanks, Patricia

  • OfficeJet Pro L7780 - Have to Restart Print Spooler every job I print (Windows 7 32-bit)

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7780 that shows as offline in Devices and Printers constantly.  I discovered if I queue up print jobs to it and then restart the print spooler all of the jobs will come out perfectly then the printer will instantly go offline.   Here is what I've done for troubleshooting already:
    Upgrade to newest firmware (R2011NxNxeN0)
Factory Reset by hold # and 3 at boot
    Changed Ink and Print Heads
Installed newest 14.0 driver (tried both Basic and IT Pro Driver)
Rebooted and restarted printer and computer
Tried all this on a 2nd Windows 7 computer with the same results
Anyone actually use this printer on Windows 7 32-bit over the wired network port!!?!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Same printer, same problem, same remediation by restarting Printer Spooler service.  Only difference is OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
FYI- I'm using my L7780 via a wifi connection using WPA2 security and a static IP and network RAW printing to port 9100.  The printer always appears available via network pings but not to the print spooler.  As such, printer is always "grayed out" and disabled but will accept jobs into its queue.
After endless searching this is what appears to be working as a fix:  Turn off SNMP on printer port.
Printer Properties -> Ports Tab -> (Select Port) -> Configure Port -> uncheck "SNMP Status Enabled"
Hopefully this works for others- but I also found mention that others found a fix in toggling other settings such as "Enable bidirection printing" check box.  Who knows what seemingly unrelated software triggers this issue but it began one strange day and drove me crazy.

  • Officejet Pro L7780 locks up when connected wirelessly

I'm trying to set up my iPad to print to an Officejet Pro L7780. Prior to beginning this effort, we were able to print to this computer through an ethernet connection no problems.
However the printer won't function once it connects wirelessly - locks up entirely. Can't get iPad, PC w/Vista, or a PC with XP to recognize the printer on the wi-fi network. And, printer button functionality is gone, including the power button. Any suggestions?

  • Can't configure Wireless Connection to HP OfficeJet Pro L7780

I recently purchased both my iMac 24" 2.8GHz computer with OS x 10.5.2 and HP OfficeJet Pro L7780. I was able to use the HP setup CDs for my Windows laptops and configured them to use the printer in a wireless configuration.
The iMac is creating the headache (actually I think it's HP causing the headache). When I try to install HP's driver 9.7.1 using their utility, it is unable to detect the L7780 in a wireless configuration. The moment I connect via USB or wired Ethernet, the printer is detected without a problem. My printer is located @ 192.168.1.30, fixed IP address via a NetGear FSW308 switch. My iMac is fixed @ 192.168.1.100 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1
I spent hours on the phone with HP support and am still in the same spot... HP software won't find the printer when it is wireless. I can configure OS x 10.5.2 to use the internal L7700 series driver and put the IP address in the dialog box. The printer prints without issue using the OS printer drivers, but the other features such as scan and fax will not work without the HP software.
I can ping the printer and I can connect to the printer's EWS, but the HP software will not find the software.
Overall config: iMac wireless network connection to switch; Printer also wireless connection to switch.
So far HP is dumbfounded and all they can say is that I should call Apple because the printer software works fine when I connect the Ethernet or USB cables.
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Roland

Thank you for the thought. Yes, although my SSID is public, I have a WEP 128-bit security key. The printer, the iMac and my Windows laptops all connect to the wireless network without issue, as evidenced by my Windows laptops and iMac (if I use the driver included with OS X 10.5.2).
I can ping the printer from the iMac as well as connect to the printer's web interface, so connectivity exists. It is as if the setup software or the printer are trying to communicate using a port that or service that OS X may be blocking.
My OS X firewall is configured to accept all connections though... so that shouldn't be the issue unless there is a bug in accepting all connections.
    Thanks,
    Roland
