I am using more than one i pod on one computer. How do I prevent them from all syncing the same music? Each I pod has needs to have it's own library. Help

    Hey there,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways of handling multiple iPods on one computer. I would check out this Apple support document, which offers instructions and explanations on a few different methods for handling this situation. Hope it helps.

  • Multiple I-pods on one computer

My Wife had a Sony MP3 player, which Sony no longer supports. She bought a new I-pod and wants to put all of her Sony songs into my I-tunes (we have a single lap top computer). How can we seperate her songs and my songs and have the ability to sync her i-pod and mine seperately and distinctly with a single laptop and one version of I-tunes on that laptop?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single Mac or Windows user account
    c) Creating multiple Mac or Windows user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Adding songs to iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here: Using Windows XP User Accounts

  • Using Multiple I-pods on one computer

    Hi.
I have had my 4th Gen i-pod for about a year now and I love it but im upgrading to the video one now.
The thing is, im going to give my old one to my younger brother and my little sister is also getting an i-pod nano for Christmas.
Will we all be able to use them on the same computer and all use the same i-tunes?.
So to sum up there will be 3 i-pods in the family
    Video - Me
    4th Gen - Brother
    Sister - Nano.
Also, if it is possible to use the 3, how will the nano that can only hold 1,000 songs be able to use i-tunes if my i-tunes has over 5,000 songs at the moment in it. Is it just a case of ticking which songs you want to go onto the nano?. At the moment, when I plug my i-pod into itunes, it automatically updates the new songs I have on i-tunes onto my i-pod so there is no need for me to select which songs go on if you know what I mean...
Any help, guidance, tips would be great.
    Clarke

You don't NEED seperate acocunts, but you technically should not be sharing the music on ipods used by three different people.
I synch 3 different ipods to my current library with no problem - my "bedtime" ipod photo - which stays in my bedroom, my daily use 60GB ipod Gen 5, and my 2nd 60GB Gen 5 (used as a backup)
Should you choose to synch all 3 under the same user account, you'll have to set the shuffle to manual synch and copy over only the songs that will go onto that device if your library is larger than the size of the shuffle.

  • More than one I-Pod on one computer

I bought a new I-Pod and want to use the older one for downloading books. However, when I plug the old one in, I get I-Tunes. Is there a way for the computer to recognize two separate I-Pods?

Give the iPods different names and iTunes will recognize them as different iPods. Rename one of the iPods in the Source window in iTunes by clicking once to highlight it, then click agian on the name to make it editable (not a double-click). They will both have their own settings in the Preferences window too.

  • Syncing I pod with more than one computer

I want to sync my I Pod on a laptop but we also have it installed on a desktop. When we try to sync with the laptop, I Tunes says that the i pod is already synced with another computer and wants us to deleate that computer. Can I tunes be synced to more than one computer and if so, how do you do that.

What you'll want to do is manually manage the iPod, in order to put content onto it from multiple computers.

  • USING POD ON MORE THAN ONE COMPUTER

I really need some help. I'm trying to use my pod on my home computer and everytime I connect it I get a message that says "The Pod is linked to another Itunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this Itunes music library and replace all existing songs on this Ipod with those from this libary?" The answer is No! I want to keep the stuff I downloaded from work and intergrate it with the music I have at home. My pod won't appear on the screen so I can change it to manually operate. I have already erased itunes and reloaded it - no luck. I'm at my wits end having spent 3 hours trying to figure out what to do? Can someone help me? I've been all over apples site trying to figure out what's wrong. Thanks!

    Hi Leah,
Nothing is wrong with your shuffle. What you are describing is the intended, normal behabiour of the shuffle. All other iPod models have an option called "manual mode" where you can use it with multiple computers and transfer music from multiple libraries to the iPod. The shuffle does not and there's no way around this. You can only have one computer's songs on it at a time. Basically it is the least expensive iPod and therefore has the most limited feature set. I agree that Apple's site and documentation should be much more clear about this difference between the shuffle and the other iPods.
If you want both your home and work songs on your shuffle at the same time, you'll have to first transfer the songs from your work to your home (or vice versa) using the "disk mode" of the shuffle (coping using Windows explorer), and bringing them into iTunes on the other computer (using File->Add to Library). Once the songs are all in one library then you can transfer them to the shuffle.
    Does that help?
    Sara.

  • HT1386 We have more than one computer at home. How do we get the songs from each computer onto one I-Pod?

We have more than one computer at home. How do we get the songs from each computer onto one I-Pod?

Copy the songs to a computer that is running iTunes, add those new tracks to the current library, and then synch those tracts to the iPod.

  • 2  I Pods connect to one computer?

Hi I have an I Pod touch 3rd generation. My son wants an I Pod touch 4 generation. I have only one Mac computer. Can both of us sync to the same computer?

    Michele I wrote:

    sure.
however, instead of creating multiple libraries, i would rather create a separate *user account* for him. you can still access the same media files. click here to learn +*how to share music between different accounts on a single computer+*
also, check out *method two* in this support article -> [_*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495] in case you don't want separate user accounts.

  • How can i transfer apps from one computer to another?

My i-pod touch was on one computer and i would like to change my apps from that computer to another.

The simplest solution is to copy the iTunes folder from the other computer to the new one. This will transfer everything including music, apps, etc. The folder is /Home/Music/iTunes/.

  • Two ipod's on one computer

    hi!
i have a problem, me and my sister have two I-pods but we have only one computer.
we can't use the Itunes becuase it dosen't read the other i-pod.
how can we use the Itunes with both Ipods? and how can we make 2 playlists?
    thanks very much!!!!!

    hi NW123!
a preliminary question. do you have that PC set up with different user accounts? (one for you, and one for your sister?) that might give us some pointers as to what is happening with the second ipod.
could you describe the problems you are getting with the ipod that doesn't work? err on the side of too much detail, rather than too little.
    love, b

  • Help with two ipod users on one computer???

Ok heres a quick rundown of the problem. My girlfriend and i both have ipod minis and i am having difficulty getting I tunes to work for me. Her I tunes works fine for her I pod, but when i try to add music files to my ipod using her I tunes, it keeps telling me that my ipod is attached to another music library, then it asks me if i want to erase the music on the ipod and download her music. I thought that maybe i was doing something wrong so i decided to install my copy of itunes to remedy the problem. I tried to install my ipods i tune disc onto the computer, everything looks like it installs well but for some reason its seems as though you can't have two versions of itunes on one computer. Can someone help me? Is there an easy way to fix this?

OH good lord! Go into your start up menu and find Tour Windows XP and it will show you how. OR GO into your Control Panel, click on USER ACCOUNTS and go from there...its not rocket science, trust me
