Mulitple iTunes accounts on Mac?

Basically, myself and my partner have our own laptops with our own iTunes (music/apps etc...)
We are thinking about getting rid of our laptops and buying a Mac Mini to share but is there anyway that we can create two iTunes so I have my library organised with my music and apps and she has hers?
Also, if this can be done...currently when I purchase a song it is organised and the file is saved within my library in 'My Documents' if I do this when we are sharing will it still do the same and file in my Library or will the files for our two libary be shared?
Thanks

Ahhh i see, so two different accounts will have seperate desktops? So if i downloaded a programme on my account it wouldn't show on her account when she logged in?
That would save on arguments on which screensaver to choose as well :)

  • 4 iDevices, 2 iTunes accounts, 1 Mac, 1 CD collection. (& backups!)

    Hi
I appreciate there are a lot of these questions asked; I've been reading a lot on here and in general but am struggling to see the wood for the trees! Apologies for such a laboured description; wanted to provide as much info as possible to get accurate responses. I have already read support article "How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer" and other articles but not found they answered my questions Any advice appreciated; I very rarely use iTunes currently so please explain fully if you have time.
    Here's the set up:
I have an iMac for my business at home, and an iPhone 4. They're linked via my iCloud for calendar and contacts in particular. I wifi backup to iCloud. I have no music on either yet.
My wife has an iPad 2 and got an iPod 7 for Christmas; she will soon be getting an iPhone. Her iPad is on her iCloud for wifi backup; she will want her iphone to sync with it via her iCloud. No music on any device yet.
We have separate iTunes accounts (and obviously iclouds), but neither of us has bought any music yet. We have a large collection of CD's, and I'm travelling more with work so am finally considering putting some music on my phone.
Due to running my business on the mac, and being a little new to apple and particularly iTunes, it's fair to say I'm a bit paranoid about plugging new (or current) iDevices into the mac, and with iCloud really don't see the need any more.
As neither of us have yet bought any music on iTunes, I'd really like to set the mac up in the most effective, hassle free way possible from the start, hence this post.
    So my questions are:
1 with regard to backup to iCloud, should we rely on this or should we really be backing up the various portable devices to the Mac? Is an iCloud backup the same as a traditional 'wired' backup to the mac?
2 if all devices are being backed up to the mac, how do I ensure my contact and calendar data won't be mixed up with that stored on my wife's devices? (Is signing into our own iTunes account before backup sufficient? Can I manually stop a 'sync' before plugging a device in?)
3 how best to manage our music? We want to start putting our collection of CD's onto the Mac, but both want to be able to access a lot of, but not all of them, for our portable devices?
4 if we both want the same new album, can we share it on our portable devices (away from home) if we buy via iTunes, or is it actually going to be more practical to but a CD and share via whatever is suggested for 3, above?
5 when I put music onto my iPhone, which currently syncs/backs up via wifi, what settings do I need to use to ensure that when I sync music via "wired connection" to iTunes my wifi backups/syncs of contacts and calendar still occur?
    6 am I misunderstanding any of sync/backup via wifi/cloud/"hardwired"?
I am aware of the option to create another user on the mac; it seems a bit excessive just to put music on an iPod and backup my wife's iPad and iPhone, but if it really is the simplest way I'll certainly consider it.
Very many thanks to anyone who can be bothered to read to here and still have the patience to answer! Really very much appreciated.

My wife and I just purchased the iphone 5 and we share an itunes account. How do I sync our iphones to our MacBookPro so we each have our own iCloud account (contacts, calendars, etc.)? We want to be able to share the itunes music on our computer.

  • Itunes account with .mac log-in

I use my .mac account ID as my iTunes account ID. However, is it possible to use a different password for my iTunes account log in than I do for let's say Mail?

No. Both the iTunes and .Mac logins are associated with the same Apple ID, and the passwords must match.

  • Itunes accounts one mac with one present account

i want to add/delete songs/video of my son's iphone but want it to stay under my wife's itunes account, but i want to do this on my imac which is under my own itunes account.  I could just delete him off my wife's account but then he may loose his game apps and he is touchy about that because he is on a certain earned level on minecraft(some kids game).  If it wasn't for the game apps no problem but he wants to keep those especially the ones he is on different levels. The songs/videos i want to put on his iphone were not downloaded from the apple store. running all updated OS on imac and iphone.''
Is there a solution to this? I have been reading up on home sharing, authorization/deauthorization, creating new user accounts.  All didn't seem to touch on this. Doesn't seem as it is possible so throwing this out there before i give up

    hello?

  • 2 itunes accounts 1 mac

Can I authorise the same mac for two separate accounts in differnent countries?

    Ray:
While the article was written for iTunes 4.5, it does not imply that you can simply activate FUS to share music. It is very clear that unless your music files are in a public folder, the are not going to be accessible by other users on the computer.
    To quote from the article:
To share your music with other accounts on the computer:
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes Music Folder. It is stored by default:
    ~/Music/iTunes or ~/Documents/iTunes/.
b These folders cannot be accessed by other accounts on the computer. In order for other users to be able to access your music, you must move it to a publicly accessible location.
The Public folder in your home directory (~/Public), or to another folder outside your home directory
b that other users have access to,
such as /Users/Shared. Tip: The tilde "~" refers to your home folder. For more information see Mac OS X: Using Your Home Directory.
    3. Drag the iTunes Music Folder to a publicly accessible location. Important: Do not move the iTunes folder, the iTunes 4 Music Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file.
    4. Open iTunes.
    5. From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
    6. Click Advanced.
    7. Click the Change button.
    8. Navigate in the Change Music Folder Location dialog to the location of your iTunes Music folder.
    9. Click Choose.
Repeat these steps for each account that is sharing music with other users.

  • 2 itunes accounts, 1 mac & 1 iphone- How to access all music from both accounts  on each device?

We've been an apple family for years now; we have many songs & a lot of $$ spent between two accounts. I know I can't merge the accounts but would like to use the music, apps, etc. from both on my mac, ipad & iphone. Is this possible, if so, HOW??

If you've bought the apps but now cannot access the store due to relocating and having to set up a new account, you should be able to keep each account open and switch between them on your iPhone.
You will need a new e-mail address though.
On your iPhone go to Settings...Store...Logout and then log in with your other account.
Because you have already given a valid address and credit card from Aus, this will be fine and you will still be able to receive updates for thos apps, for free (on the iPhone you'll need to be logged in under your Aus account to see if there are any updates).
Once updated, just transfer purchases in iTunes to copy the updates to your PC/Mac
Your new address will work as normal and you will also receive updates for this account.

  • I bought TV shows through my iTunes account on Apple TV, how do I get them on my Mac?

I am using the same iTunes account on my Mac, and Apple TV and want to be able to watch the purchases I have made on my Apple TV on my Mac.  Even though it is the same iTunes account my Mac doesn't see that I have already purchased them.  How do I get my purchases from my Apple TV to show on my Mac?

Are they not available through the purchased section in iTunes.

  • Is there a limit to number of devices you can simultaneously sync to one itunes account?

Is there a limit (set by itunes or elsewhere) to the number of devices you can simultaneously sync to one itunes account/PC/Mac? Using USB hubs or other sync/charge devices?

iTunes can only sync one device at a time.
There is no limit to the number of devices you can sync consecutively with the same library.
Each device can hold protected content from up to five accounts.
Up to 10 computers and iOS devices can be authorised for automatic downloads of an Apple IDs available purchases (some items may only be downloaded once).
Up to five computers can be authorised to each Apple ID at any one time.

  • Can multiple iphones with multiple itunes accounts be synced to one mac keeping apps seperate over the air?

We have about 20 iPhone's in our environment and syncing and updating them has become a real chore lately.  Everyone has their own iTunes account and apps that they use. Is there a way that they can be synced, backed up and updated over the air (not iCloud) to the same MAC?  Because we are in the financial sector we will not be able to use iCloud. Should we look into some sort of private cloud and if so; any suggestions on how to accomplish it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    J

We have several macs, several ipods, a couple of iphones, several itunes store accounts. So far no problem. You might have to share passwords if you want to share content. I think iStore accounts can only be used on up to 5 computers. We have 7, so have to be a little careful about that. I don't think there is a limit on how many iDevices can be used with one account. I also don't think there is a limit on how many accounts can be used on a single computer (might be wrong about that). You have to be logged into the iStore to download content, and your computer has to be registered with the account to use the content, but once it is on, and registered, syncing to an iPod is not a problem (you do not have to login in again for each account the content was purchased from). I'm just glad I only have two kids, and one wife - things could get trickier in a big family with . . .

  • HT1296 I already have an itunes account on my laptop but have been setup on a mac and have songs that have not been purchased from the itunes store, I cannot get the songs from my iPhone onto my itunes account on the mac. how can I do this?

I already have an itunes account on my laptop but have been setup on a mac and have songs that have not been purchased from the itunes store, I cannot get the songs from my iPhone onto my itunes account on the mac. how can I do this?

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

  • How should I give itunes autonomy to my children now that they are in high school and have used my Mac and my itunes account to buy music for years, including all gift cards given to them. They now both have their own computers.

When my children were younger, and needed more help and oversight, I had them purchase songs with my permission, often with gift cards that they had been given on various occaisions. Now, however, they both have laptops, they would like to split out "their" music and books, sync their Itouches to their own system, and I would love to have 9000 less Taylor Swift songs stored on my hard drive. Also, it seems that I can't set up independent Itunes accounts for them without a credit card, however they both get gift cards several times a year. A suggestion for this? It must happen to a lot of families. Thanks.

Unfortunately you cannot split (nor merge) items purchased with an AppleID.  I am not clear on what you will have to do to allow them continued access to their music on your account.  Apple no longer has DRM protection in its music but then I also hear people have all kinds of authorization issues when trying to synch so it sounds like they still keep restrictions on what you can do with the music when trying to move it about.  I'll let somebody more experienced with syncing answer this part.  You may have to authorize their computers and devices to your AppleID to allow them all functionality with the music.
Ideally you would have set them up with their own AppleIDs years ago but...

  • How do I convert my existing iTunes account to a .mac account?

I am trying to convert my existing iTunes account which uses an Earthlink address. The following is the INSTRUCTIONS from the Apple web site on how to do this.
"I just signed up for .Mac. How do I convert my existing iTunes account to
    my new .Mac account?
We'll be happy to convert your account for you. Please provide your old account name, your new .Mac account name and your billing address in your email. We will also need your explicit permission to reset your password to complete the conversion."
This is the URL where I found those INSTRUCTIONS:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/email/
    I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE!
I am now on my fifth exchange of emails with iTunes support.
HAS ANYBODY SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTED THESE INSTRUCTIONS? I don't want to lose the ability to play my existing purchased music, but I want to close down Earthlink as my ISP.

On any page in the iTunes Store, click the flag icon at the lower right.  This brings up a page saying "Choose your country or region."  Click Canada.
Before you can buy anything, you will need to enter your Canadian credit card.

I have an ipod Classic 80G. It is a few years old and hasnt been used for  a while. I have just tried to sync it to my new Mac and it says theat thei ipod is synced with another itunes account!!!
It was orriganally managed through my old pc but as far as i am aware the itunes account is the same. If i sync with my mac it will remove all that is in the Classsic and replace it with current itunes!
How can i get round this ?

    Hi Becki ..
You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.
