Mulitple Saved photos to IOS device on Photo Stream

I take a photo, or save a photo sent to me, and it saves twice in the camera roll, and in the Iphoto upload? how can I get rid of the extra photo?

Realistically, you can't get rid of either photo if you want to use photo stream. If you delete it from the camera roll, photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days and so you will eventually lose it from there too. If you delete it from photo stream it will not sync to your other devices and there is little point in turning photo stream on.

Do I have to move pictures into albums from photo stream to keep them forever?

If you mean on your iOS device, yes. If You mean on a PC, I wouldn't know. If you mean on a Mac, then yes but you can set iPhoto to move photostream photos to events automatically for you.

• Is there a way to download an entire shared photo stream to your iOS device from the url?

I recently dropped my iPhone, resulting in a pretty total breaking of it. Luckily, apply care is awesome and I got my phone replaced the next day. My only issue is that I lost the ~3000 photos I had taken on a recent trip to Japan. These photos were saved on a photo stream that was then shared with others that went on the trip, however. My question is: is there a way to download that entire stream back onto my iPhone? Where I am I do not have internet access a lot of the time, and would like access to those photos all the time, as I would be able to if they were saved on my phone.
Thanks

Hello Jmask09,
Indeed, photos can be downloaded to your iPhone. Videos, however, cannot be downloaded to your device.
Can photos and videos be saved or downloaded from a shared album?
Yes. After photos are shared, anyone who can view the shared album can download and keep them permanently. Videos can only be downloaded to a Mac or PC. On an iOS device, videos are streamed from iCloud and can't be downloaded.
On a compatible iOS device, you can save photos to your Photos tab or Camera Roll.

• How to download complete iCloud shared Photo Streams.

I am really struggling here to understand why Apple does not have the option to download an entire iCloud shared Photo Stream.
So how I have set it up is to select the photos I want to share, choose Share from the menu, choose iCloud as the method, and select the option for Public Website. Once the photos are uploaded and I visit that website I can only see a way to click each photo individually and then the Download button at the top right of the screen.
As a work around I have copied those files out of iPhoto and to a Picasa web album which does allow for full album downloads. This of course is an absurd way of sharing my pictures with my family.
Someone please tell me there is a somewhat easy way to download and entire photo stream. Maybe I am missing something quite easy.

If your family members can use iCloud, they can download directly from the Shared Photo Stream to iPhoto or Aperture, also if the have a PC and iCloud, see:

• Photo stream only creator uploads pictures or everyone?

Why is photo stream designed this way? Why can't I select like my wife who subscribes as a person authorized to upload photos? It's either all or nothing.

Hi Daniel,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The photos are saved in the My Photo Stream for 30 days, but your iOS device keeps a rolling collection of up to 1000 photos. See the article below for more details and suggestions for backing up and automatically saving Photo Stream photos to your computer.
iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
Does using My Photo Stream substitute for using iCloud Backup or iTunes to back up the photos in my Camera Roll ?
No. Photos in My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days. To save or back up these photos, you must copy them from My Photo Stream to your Camera Roll on your iOS device. You can then back up your Camera Roll using iCloud or iTunes.
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with My Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream. For iCloud Control Panel 2.1 to 2.1.3 users, the path isC:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream.

• Photo stream album

Ipad set up a folder called photo stream and lt adds it with pictures I can not remove. This is in addition to the photo stream tab also in the photo section. How do pictures get put in this folder . Many are duplicates. How do i get rid of them?

nicki16,
Videos can only be downloaded on a Mac or PC. Once downloaded onto a computer, they can potentially (should they not exceed your email service provider's attachment size limits) be emailed to yourself in order to save them to your phone.

• HT4906 How do I save photo stream pictures that are sent to me

Please send guidlines for saving photos streamed to my I Phone IV S and saved on our Mac Book Pro
Thank you

Set the iPhoto/Photo Stream preference pane to that shown in this screenshot:
If that doesn't import those photos currently in the Photo Stream just select them and drag onto the Events icon in the left hand pane. From then on any photos taken on your iPhone will automatically be imported into the library as well as show up in the Photo Stream.

• Live stream webcam to iOS Devices

I want to have a flash application take the live Audio/Video stream send it to the server (FMS 4.5) and iOS devices play the stream.
From reading through a lot of forum posts, it looks like I can use AS3 to encode the video into H264 which is iOS supported, but I dont't see any encoding I can do on the microphone for iOS devices.
Is there anyway around getting live audio streamed to iOS devices?
If not, are there any plans to support an enocding to iOS devices?

For HLS streaming, only aac/heaac are supported audio codec. Though FMS do not disallow packaging mp3, but its mostly depnds upon ios devices to play back them.. We don't recommend mp3 as codec for ios playback.

• Pictures sent from Samsung WP7 to iOS Devices Cannot Be Viewed Once Saved the the iOS Photo Library.

Pictures sent from Samsung WP7 to iOS Devices Cannot Be Viewed Once Saved the the iOS Photo Library. I don't have issues with saving pictures from any other user types. Please help!
Steps to reproduce issue:
1) Share pictures from WP7 either via email or Messaging with iPhone 4
2) View photo on iOS device in email app or messaging (text message)
3) Save Photo to Photo Library in iOS
4) Go to Photos app in iOS
5) This results in a dialog saying "Rebuilding Photo Library"
6) Once this is done, the photo sent from WP7 appears a grey block icon that says ".JPG: on it

• Does photo stream distribute also photos saved on iOS device?

I have several photos taken by another iPhone and sent to my iPhone via email or whatsapp. I see them on my iPhone but not on my iPAD.

That is because saved photos go to the Camera Roll, not to PhotoStream. Only photos taken with your device go to PhotoStream.
You can create a Shared PhotoStream album if you want to share photos not taken with the device:
To create a Shared Photo Stream, launch the Photos app on your iOS device, and select the Photo Stream option at the bottom of the screen. In the upper-left corner is a + sign; tap on it. Enter the iCloud e-mail address of the person (or people) you'd like to share your album with. Enter a name for the album.

• How do I control photo streaming from my iMac to my IOS devices?

I have an iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iMac running latest versions of Lion and iPhoto. I had photo streaming in the on position for each machine, and recently I downloaded over 1500 high res Nikon photo's from a vacation into iPhoto on the Mac. I wasn't really thinking about the background activity with iCloud, but later I found that my memory was used up on the iPad. When checking further, I found that all the vacation photo's loaded to iPhoto had photo streamed to the iCloud and been copied onto my iPhone and iPad. Okay like duhh.....this is how it works, I get it now, very cool, now I have no memory left. To make matters worse, there was no easy way to delete pictures from the photo stream on the IOS devices.....you have to individually check each pic to delete. Lesson learned...I turned off the photo streaming from my iMac.
But, the way I really would like to use this is to have all photo's and/or video's taken with my iPhone or iPad to be streamed into the iCloud and copied automatically to my iMac.....but I don't want the opposite to happen....ie, when I download pics from my Nikon onto my iMac into iPhoto, I don't want those to stream to the IOS devices. Basically my iMac is the major long term storage device (with backup hard drive)...I view my IOS devices as just short term storage devices, and if something needs to be saved it should up load to my iMac.
Is it possible to set up the devices this way with iCloud, ie, one way photo streaming?
thanks ahead!

iPhoto > iPhoto Preferences > PhotoStream, turn off automatic uploads.

• IOS devices don't put shared photos from Camera Roll onto My Photostream

I have photostream setup and working pretty well. I have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads syching all their photos between them and sharing with others. My phortos are also being automatically saved on my mac mini using My Photostream.
The problem is when I want to add photos someone esle has shared on a photo stream into My Photostream. I save the photo I want into the Camera Roll of the device. This bit works fine but for somereason the photo isn't then put into My Photostream. It's very strange because if I put images into my Camera Roll through other methods (such as from an email or a screen capture and of course by taking a photo) the image gets into My Photostream. It's just images I imput from shared photostream that don't.
This is really frustrating because I want to easily have other people's photos that I want in my personal colleciton included in the backup on the mac mini. It's particularly nice how all my photos appear grouped by month in Events in iPhoto.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any advice on how to fix it? It's occuring with all my iOS devices so it looks like it might be a bug.

I'd rather not. Besides the hassle of the extra synch process, they'll come in as separate import events mixed in wih all my other photos and not be in the month by month photostream archive I mentioned.

• How can one sync a) Albums to all my iOS devices and b) Photos

1/It is evident to me that only My Photostream is automatically uploading/ syncing ( within the number of 1000) pics;
but Each iOs- device may have a different Photostream ( eg: if activated at different times, previously)
2/ since Photostream will then delete ( algorithms unknown) an unknown number of photos, to stay<1000,
saving is necessary:
one would either save them in Photos/ . (?)
Someone here has suggested to take the content of Photostream and create a new Album ( eg: "From Photostream_ Date"),
and transfer ALL images thereto, from time to time (?)
- it would be helpful if syncing is also possible on the Album level ( via iTunes ??)
- OR: are the Albums strictly collections on the respective iOs - device, (and the Mac ?), eventually
containing different Photos (!), ie : Albums are on the device - level (?)
->> Having said so, Can one sync on the Album level ?
- OR somehow also on the Photo- level ?
3/ when is the best time, to save the My Photostream
Sorry , if too many Q's

My Qs were more specific
It is easier to answer specific question, when I know whch options you are having on your computers. I.e. I wondered if you would be able to use Shared PhotoStreams instead of My Photo Stream, but that would require MacOS X 10.9. at least, see: iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams
( pls see above): 1/ I was assuming that via iCloud only " my Photostream" is distributed onto all aktivated iOs- devices;
The Photostream "My Photo Stream" uses a buffer in iCloud: Each device will upload the most recent (last month) photos saved to the Camera Roll, if Photo Stream is enabled and any photo you share to the stream. The buffer in iCloud will only keep the photos for a month - it is meant as a streaming buffer and not as a storage. And the stream you are seeing on your devices is fed from this buffer. Depending on when you activate Photo Stream on the devices they will show different selections of photos - it depends on what is currently in iCloud. With IOS 7.0.4 you could also stream to Shared Streams, and they will keep all photos in iCloud, only you would need to upgrade.
- having said so: does iCloud then back up my Camera Roll ( Photos) in toto ?
Your Photostream is generated automatically from all photos saved to your camera roll, so if you keep all photos in your camera roll and save any new photos from the Photo Stream to your camera roll, they will all be backed up, inclding any videos in your camera roll. This list describes in detail, what automatically will be backed up in iCloud over Wi-Fi:
See: iCloud: Backup and restore overview
2/ the 2nd Q posed was: Is there a mechanism to save/ backup on the Album level ( I guessed it can be done via iTunes), but also through iCloud (??)
That is exactly, why I asked for your system versions: if you could create Shared Streams, you could use 100 separate streams just like albums, and all would be stored in iCloud.
But there is no way to structure "My Photo Stream".
But the iCloud backup of your devices will include all application data, so albums you define in the Photos app will also be included, only not the photos synced to your device using iTunes, unless you save them to the camera roll.
- Does one then HAVE TO make b/u via iTunes for EACH iOs device ( and of course the whole Library file
You can make your iCloud backup using Wi-Fi ( iCloud: Backup and restore overview), but you will have more control over it, when you create the backup using iTunes. And syncing using USB is faster than Wi-Fi.
4/ Does one have to save (B/U) as well via iTunes into the iPhoto library,
as also via iCloud (?)
It is recommended: the iCloud backup of your IOS devices will enable you to restore your devices directly from iCloud, but a separate backup in iTunes will make it possible to restore a new replacement device from the backup, if your iPad, iPhone will be stolen, lost, or defective. And you can access the iTunes backup even when the network is down, or there is a problem with your iCloud account.
iPhoto library: When you automatically import the photoStream into your iPhoto library on your Mac, any backup of your iPhoto library will be a backup of your Photo Stream photos as well. I'd create the albums in iPhoto on your Mac.

A remark about Photostream : its deletion logic for pics, once 1000 is reached is intransparent
This is explaine d by the fact that "my Photo Stream" is not meant to be a storage, just a transient buffer. You have one month time to grab your photos from the stream, and then they will be removed, consider it to be a stream of photos that you are viewing from a narrow window. You are supposed to download the photos to your camera roll or to an event on your mac, as soon as you are seein it in the stream. After a month it will be gone.

• Photos taken from iOS device not showing up on Macbook??????

I have photo streaming turned "ON" on my iPhone 5, iPad Air and Macbook Pro. For some reason or another I have been having problems getting the pictures to show up on my Mac. The only time I need for this to happen automatically is when I am listing on eBay. For example I took a picture of the item that I want to list from my iPhone 5. Within a few minutes the picture shows up my iPad Air. I am using my Macbook Pro to list the items. It took over an hour for one picture to come over. I called Apple and without having a device that is under the 1 year contract or Applecare they push this support forum on you or pay $19.95 for them to walk you through it.
Before anyone replies, I have made sure that I am signed in under my apple ID on all three devices and have photo stream selected as well. All of my devices are updated to the latest software. Being that I am having problems with my Mac it is version 10.9.4 running Mavericks. If anyone has any definite answers to this problem I am having I would appreciate all the advice I can get.

No offense, but there are not definitive answers when it comes to iCloud.
Reset iCloud.
On your iOS devices, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos then switch Photo Stream off then back on.
On your Mac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Photos then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.
