Multi-color line in Safari

On Safari 5 there is occasionally a multi-color line running almost through the entire window. Does anyone know why this happens or what it is?

Thanks.

HI Richard,
That shouldn't be happening, obviously.
Have you tried Safari on another user account? See if you see that line there.

I was playing a game on my Touch when it froze and then it changed to a screen with multi-colored horizontal lines across it. I have tried to reset it, but it will not respond. I cannot even get it to turn off. I have a feeling that it is a hardware problem, any suggestions?

You can't fix it.  You need to make a reservation at the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store.   Use the link below to find one near you.  Before attending the reservation you should create a backup of the device.  You can use iTunes but ICloud should prove more convenient.

  • My mac book flickered and now there is a solid black 1/4" vertical line  bar and a bunch of multi colored lines. Whats up?

Screen flickered then a black line appeared on the right side and beside it a bunch of colored lines/ vertical, and that area is dead, Cursor won't go there.  Any suggestions?  Fixes, or is my display shot?
    Thanks,  Don

    More details:
The regular/non-extended Hardware Test returned no problems, despite taking hours for what was supposed to be a 3-5 minute test. I haven't dared run the extended.
I also tried removing third-party RAM and using the original configuration, then just the third-party and no Apple, etc.. It's not the RAM, as the problem is exactly the same.
I'm going to call up Apple support when I can, but just looking for other things I can check or possibly do until then, or just insight on what the problem could be.
Is it most likely the graphics card? Could it be an issue with the core hardware?

  • Multi colored vertical lines on screen

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 5,1 that has multi colored vertical lines going down the screen. I've looked at numerous posts that refer me to the "EM80 article" but they seem to be referring to the Imacs when referencing this article. I tried taking a screen shot to showcase the problem but the multi colored lines do not appear on the screenshot. Is any one else having this same problem? Is my lcd broken (I did not drop the computer), could there be a lose cable, is there a problem with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card? Thanks for the help.

The fact that the lines don't appear in a screenshot means it is a physical problem. Such as the lcd controller, backlight, etc. As long as you've got the latest firmware updates it's unlikely you'll find any fix other than apple repair.

  • Vertical Colored Lines on G4

We installed Leopard on our 800 MHz G4 iMac using the target-mode trick. Everything seems to be working fine, though a bit slow, except for one issue. Whenever the display is reawakened after going to sleep, the screen is full of vertical multi-colored lines. The lines may bear some relationship to whatever image was on the screen prior to sleep; I can't tell. The only way to eliminate the lines is to reboot. (As a temporary measure, we are going to try disabling the sleep mode.)
    Any ideas?
I found the following note on the apple support site. It applies to the MacBook after a 10.4.7 update, but it sounds like the same problem. Should I try resetting the NVRAM? (sounds scary):
    Symptom
After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.7, the MacBook may show a solid grey, white, or black screen or a screen with vertical multi-colored lines.
    Products affected
MacBook with Mac OS X 10.4.7
    Solution
To resolve the issue temporarily, you may need to reset NVRAM. Once you can use the display again, download and install Mac OS X 10.4.8. You can use the Software Update feature of System Preferences, or download the Update from Apple Software Downloads (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/).
If you have updated to Mac OS X 10.4.8 and the issue still seems to occur, you may need to reset NVRAM on your MacBook again.

I'm having a similar problem (horizontal lines) which is discussed in a couple of threads here; see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5785641&#5785641, for example. Appears to be related to the dust buildup on the video card. If you can get to the card inside your G4, try blowing it off with a can of Dust-Off.

  • Black or multi-colored strip an right hand side of copies

My C7280 was not used for two weeks.  When I returned home, the printer prints a black or multi-colored line about 1/2 inch wide down the right hand side of the copy.  I ran the print dead cleaners three times.  Any ideas what is wrokng?

    Hi peggymay.
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
Sorry to hear that you are having issues with black lines on your scans or copies.  I have had this issue myself on my very own 8600 and I was able to get it resolved. The issue actually stemmed from two locations and with any luck we can get this issue resolved for you. First thing to look at is under the scanner lid. Lift the scanner lid and to the left of the large scanner glass, you will see a small strip of glass. Please take a light glass cleaner and a lint free cloth and clean the small glass area as well as the big glass . On the under side of the lid, you will see a white plastic strip. Please clean this as well. IF you have already done these steps then please move on to the next step.
The printer power cable needs to be connected to a wall outlet and NOT a power Bar/Strip. HP printers already have a built in surge protector and if you have it plugged into a Bar/Strip, the printer will NOT get all the power needed to function properly and it will cause issues with scans or copies and it could even generate false error messages on the printer display screen.
Please try these steps and if they work, Fantastic. But if they don't, please feel free to write me back.
Thank you so much for your time.  Always happy to help.

  • Crashing with horizontal colored lines on screen?

I've been having a serious issue with my MacBook Pro 13" recently. It started as different occasions of randomly crashing, and then progressed into crashing while horizontal colored lines flicker on the screen. The only option to fix this is short term, I will restart my computer only to have the lines show up ten minutes later and then have to restart again. This has been a nightmare for getting any work done, saving files, etc. Sometimes it crashes three times in the span of thirty minutes, and at that point will not even turn on but will instead trigger three beeps to sound, which I know is a sign of bad RAM.
I actually invested in completely new RAM to see if I would fix the problem, upgrading from 8gb to 16gb. No luck, I still had crashing. I also completely erased my hard drive and performed a system restore. Also no luck. The lines and crashing are back.
Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm worried this is an issue that I won't be able to fix, and I'll have to buy a new computer entirely which is super upsetting considering I only bought this Mac last year.
Here's an image of the screen in all it's messed up glory (featuring adventures in online dating):

    I would appreciate any help!

I bought my macbook like a month ago and already sent
it in for repair once. Now I have another problem.
When ever I turned on my MB the screen just shows
like a thousand multi colored lines and stays that
way. The night b4 this happened the battery ran out
and I was to lazy to charge it, so i just left it
dead over night. When I woke this problem took
effect. Anyone know what the problem is???
    thnx in advance,
    It's a bug in OS 10.4.7.

  • IMac 17" has vertical lines of multi colors

Just bought a iMac 17" and it has vertical lines of multi colors. What are the causes, how can I troubleshoot the source and what is the most cost effective way to fix?

Since the last 17" iMac was discontinued in 2007, it's unlikely that it's still under warranty, unless you managed to get Applecare with it.
I had the same problem. The local Mac repair place, Dino computers in Pasadena, said that what it needs is a replacement display, but that alone costs $500, plus installation, so it isn't really worth it to fix.
But I found a website call realmacmods.com, which offers a kit just for this purpose. Not for the layperson however. You can get a kit for about $50 and supply your own 17inch display, or you can buy a display plus adapter board for $150. I talked to Dino and they said they could install it for me for about $120. I decided to get some Mac tools and try it myself. The vendor recommends you have some laptop repair experience, which I don't have, but I have opened up desktop computers before, and that helped. Anyway, it worked. And, you get a higher resolution display: 1900 x 1200, formerly 1440 x 900. It looks great. But again, not for the layperson.

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro and when surfing the web my computer will slow to a crawl and I will have a multi-colored spinning wheel visible until my latest request is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way to prevent this from occuring

I have a MacBook Pro.  When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl.  When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled.  What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening?  Is there a setting that will prevent this?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • How can I make multi-colored links change their rollover or hover color?

I have made links with seperate colors using css, but the links with new colors have no hover property. I want these links to change color when the cursor hovers over them the same way the other links on my page do. I have tried making a new css rule for <hover> and tried writing the property into the css code but to no effect. I have searched the web and this forum for an answer and found notheing that works. Does anyone know how to give links with multiple colors a hover property that will make them change color? All of my other links change color as defined in the page properties, but the links with new color rules don't change color anymore. This is probably pretty basic. I'm new to DW, using CS6. If anyone can provide a step by step and show where the code should be inserted, this would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

  • Color lines on my cinema display and computer freezes.

I just bought a 2.8 dual quad-core mac pro and a 23 inch cinema display 2 days ago and I've been having small color lines show up on my screen after running the computer for about an hour. It usual happens when im in safari or firefox. and when it does happen the computer totally freezes. Im not able to force quit or do anything except restart from the power button. This happens again after about an hour or 2 and i have to do it all over again. Any idea why this happens before i lug the computer back to the store? thanks...
I'm running mac os x 10.5.1, ATI Radeon HD 2600, 2 gig of ram

My new Mac Pro (2.8 2 x Quad) has also frozen a number of times since day one. The details are over on xlr8yourmac.com with others who are experiencing the same issue.
I usually only get a small spot of screen corruption around the mouse pointer - about the size of a postage stamp - when the freeze happens, but 3 times the screen (30" HC CD) has become totally corrupt with many wavy lines and artifacts running thru it. The mouse pointer stays moveable in all cases, and background processes continue although I cannot force quit or restart in any other way than hitting the power button. Has happened twice in five minutes and then not once for as many as 3 days... seems to have no rhyme or reason.
I also have one of the freezing Aluminum iMacs with the very similar Radeon 2600 Pro card; the behavior was almost identical. Apple eventually released a firmware update that fixed the issue, and I find it hard to believe they would have brought the faster XT card to market without thorough testing, but... it's beginning to seem that they have.
