Multi-coloured flashing screen on play-back

I download movies from my camera via Picasa 3 and have no trouble viewing them in Picasa, but when I try to play them with QuickTime in My Pictures, or if I burn them onto a CD and try to play them all I get is a multi-coloured flashing screen while it plays. The colours are very pretty, but not what I want to see!! The sound is fine. I have installed QuickTime 7, but no change. I have been downloading movies and copying them on to CDs and playing them OK for about five years. This problem has only occurred within about the last year.

I am so very grateful to you. This has been driving me mad for ages and it's difficult when you don't really have the faintest idea what you're doing! Took me a while to find the Quick Time Control Panel(!), but now all my video clips are playing fine. Thank you so much.

Why do I have a black screen when playing back TV shows?

I am running Win 7, and iTunes 10.7. Recently, when trying to play back episodes on my PC of a TV show that I purchased, the playback screen is black, with no video or audio. The time counter is counting down the clock as if it's playing, but there's nothing to see or hear. If I re-boot my PC, the show will play properly, but the black-screen instance has occurred several times now, and I'd like to figure out why it's happening at all.

Because there is a problem. Want to try fix it?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

White screen when playing back .mov files in QT.

I have two different .mov files created using an older version of QT (7.0.3, I think). The content is the same on both, but one has a bitrate of 750k and the other has a bit rate of 1200k. The one with 750k still plays just fine, but the other only gives me a white screen.
The problem started when I upgraded to 7.1.5, and I can't find the old installer for 7.0.3. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much for trying to figure this out. I have noticed that a lot of people have had the same problem. I have tried to change pretty much all settings on the different computers at work and even taken the files home to try them out on my Mac and also on my PC. Both have QT pro. But still the same problem.

How to get flash banner to play back on iphone

Hello,
I have website (basic) that i created with a flash rotating banner. Banner works fine on all computers but won't play on iphone. I'm aware that there are limitations at this point with flash and iphones. How are webdesigners creating rotating banners and the like that play on iphones? Can this be done in flash cs3? thanks, Owen

Well you are on your way to success then, GOOD JOB!!
Here's the simple, easy way to get this going:
Download swfobject ver 1.5 here (my site):

Let's just put all your Flash files in the the same folder to simplifly things during testing... later you can move them to any folder you want, just remember that the paths to those files then need to be changed to be relative to the Web page that your .swf file is on, not the physical location of the actual file.
Practice in a brand new html Web page......copy and paste this into the code view, or copy and paste into NotePad and save as file type .html
Be sure to put the swfobject file, the Flash .swf file, the .mov file and this html file all in the same folder during testing.

Edit to match your .swf and .mov file names and change dimensions to suit.
I've purposely "turned off" swfobject by giving it an in-correct file name "swfobject_off.js"... so initially it will NOT work..result is you will see your "alternate content", the .mov.
Once you can confirm that your alt content is working, edit the swfobject file name to "swfobject.js", removing the _off part.
Now your browser will find that file.. swfobject will try detect the Flash plugin, if it finds it, it will

rewrite the div id=flash with the Flash content and violla... you'll have your Flash banner and iPhone users will have theirs!

Problem with Quicktime X - Green screen when playing back screen recording?

I've read up on changing Quicktime preferences, but I could not find them. I think this is because Quicktime X apparently does not need preference?
I'm not sure.

Hulu full-screen plays back choppily when sent to HDTV via Mind-DV to HDMI

Hi, all. I searched discussions for a solution to this to no avail. Thank you in advance for any help!
When I have my MacBook connected to my HDTV via an Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and try to watch Hulu in full-screen on the HDTV, it drops all kinds of frames and plays back very choppily. When I watch the same program on the MacBook display at full-screen, it plays back fine.
I've tried the Hulu website, as well as the Hulu Desktop app. Both yield the same result (i.e. bad).
I set the HDTV's display settings (via OS X Display Preferences) between 720, 1080i, and 1080p, respectively, to troubleshoot. Neither 1080i or 1080p plays back well at all, but the resolution is nice. When I set it to 720, it plays back a lot smoother, but the resolution is awful.
The MacBook specs are below. Any suggestions or ideas as to why this is happening?

I updated Flash player and set the OS X display settings for the HDTV to 720p, and it is acceptable now.

My browser seems to crash quite a lot and Ive noticed a lot of you tube videos dont play back correctly and have a green bar across the screen

Ive had the browser a couple of days now and I've noticed it crashes occasionally. Ive also noticed it doesn't play back videos off you-tube correctly and there is a green band going across them as they play. I think this may be an issue with adobe flash player. If i play the video via the popout button, it seems ok.
I don't know if the crashing and playback issues are related.

I disabled acceleration in the flash player by linking to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting and scrolling to the line that specifically outlined my problem - split horizontal screen with green line - clicked on the flash link then right clicked the flash icon and ticked disable acceleration.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled more programs then I probably need to.
We will see how long it lasts* site explains it may not be permanent

Screen flickers with multi coloured lines... then dies

I really hope someone out there can help...
My iphone is only a couple of months old (bought it first day of release in Australia) and now it is starting to break down.
When i press the home key, the screen flickers and has these strange multi coloured lines accross it. Then sometimes it will then restart on the apple logo.
Is there a fix, or do i need to send it back? Will they replace it on the spot?

Multi coloured vertical lines on screen

Hi - My iBook G4 (approx 15 months old) has suddenly developed multi-coloured vertical stripes on the screen. I've tried resetting it; tried the start-up software; tested the power cable - the problem remains the same. I've got an awful feeling the logic board has gone as something similar happened with my G5 iMac a couple of years ago. Fortunately I have extended the warranty. Anyone out there with any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks, Kate

If you are under warranty, by all means call Apple Tech Support. They can walk you through various troubleshooting techniques on the phone and decide if your iBook needs to be sent off for repair--under warranty of course, since that is why you have Applecare.
In the meantime, get all your important data backed up ASAP.
One other thing you can do is a clean install of the OS. This will eliminate the possibility that corrupt software is the problem--degraded software can do all kinds of weird things. If the problem is still there after a clean install of the OS, then it is going to be a hardware problem of some sort and they will repair it for you for free.

There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
The issue your having is with the way Keynote takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on either display, use application switcher:
press the the command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command > tab to return to Keynote.

I have reset the phone, full firmware restore, even downgraded back from firmware 4.2.1 to .3.1.3 official by using dfu mode and still doesnt fix.
(i correctly got out of dfu mode after the downgrade)
i can enter dfu mode and recovery, and update through itunes with no problem, but it doesnt fix the problem,
i have searched and found no answer to this problem, every option availible to try that i know of i have tried and failed. i dont care about preserving my content i just want a fix. i have a good understanding how to operate software on a computer and shouldnt be too confused by any advice given, so plz even if the answer is very complex i wish to try anything, please help me to get my iphone working.

1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two and tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

MBP strange flickering blocks of multi-coloured lines on screen

over the past few weeks when awaking from sleep my MBP 13" (mid-2012) has had this problem <a href="http://s1204.photobucket.com/user/sjwhite26/media/IMG_0035.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb404/sjwhite26/IMG_0035.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0035.jpg"/></a> i.e. blocks of multi coloured lines flickering on the screen.
You can use the machine, but its incredibly annoying and and reboot gets rid of it. My issue is that it is happening more and more. I also have the issue when the MBP won't always wake from sleep when using the mini display port attached to my screen. This is viewable on the laptop's native screen as well as the dell screen.
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried all the PRAM etc resets.

SOLVED!!!!!
SO I did some more digging around and read ATI cards seem to overheat easily. I knew the fan was working, but after closer inspection I realised there was ALOT of built up dust on the card and clogging the fan and airflow. Blew it out with alot of compressed air, stuck it back in the Mac and BAM...no black screens. I tested it by streaming 6 video sources...doing 2 screen captures at once as well as watching a HD movie in fullscreen. Did all this for 30 minutes and no crashes. I also downloaded an app to monitor the temps inside the computer and the expansion bay stays at 41 degrees. No clue what it was before but obviously it was hotter than that. So my problem is solved! Funny that 10.7.5 made the card work harder. I wonder if its off loading some CPU stuff to the GPU for processing more than 10.7.4 so its just working a bit harder and so it heats up faster....
