Multi currencies in Planning and essbase

Good morning all. I am new to hyperion. I have few doubts regarding multi currencies.
Coud you pls tell me, we can impliment multi currencies in planning and essbase.
If in company has implimented planning and essbase for one project .. where this multi currency concept will come in real time? when company's will go for essbse multi currencies and when planning currencies?
Pls explain me.

Yes, Essbase & Planning can do multiple currencies. It is more complicated to explain from an technical and setup perspective, but you can setup several ways depending on how the business wants to handle currency conversions. Planning has an option that will enable multi currency, but I would be careful and certain you want to do this. I only use this option if one of my requirements is that 1 entity member deals in more then one currency.
Long and short of it is it can be done.

Edeliver is where you go to download any of Oracle products. They are not trial versions. They are full versions. The license that you must agree to inorder to download them are for development and self-educational purposes only.
The main site is

From there you pick your language, identify yourself, and agree to the license agreement. Then, you select the product pack and OS of host system. Then, select the product you want to download. The products are splitup by component or modules. You must download everything you need. Foundation, Essbase, Planning, and Reporting and Analysis if you are going to do any reports.
Product pack - Choose Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
OS - I use a 64bit OS, but choose the right one that you will be installing on.
Then choose,
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (*11.1.2.0.0*) Media Pack for the OS you choose
Once you have downloaded the required packs, unzip them all into one folder. Merge the folders together and copy and replace all files. Put a check mark in the box that asks to perform this for other conflicts.
Once you have all packs unzipped, run InstallTool.cmd

Multi Currency in Planning

Hi All,
I am new to Hyperion Planning and I am trying to build a planning application supporting Multiple Currencies.
Could any one point me to relevant documents / help to get the multi currency functionality working.
I have experience in Microsoft PPS and this is the first time I am working on Hyperion Planning.
Also how advisable it is to build a custom Currency dimension instead of using the built-in multi currency functionality of planning? Any suggestions will be really helpful.

Hi,
We input the data into currency member called 'Local' and based on the currency conversion it will be converted into reporting currency.
If you want to enter the currency other than the base currency for an entity, you need to enable the option of enable multi currencies in Other options in the Manager dataforms. While inputting the values you need to give the currency after the value.

Using relational data from SQL data source in Planning and Essbase

Hi,
How do I take sample data from a SQL data source and bring it into a Hyperion Planning application? I understand that when creating Planning applications, a link between a relational data source and Essbase must be established, because the relational database holds the metadata while the database outline is stored with Essbase. However, all I am currently able to do is load the data into Planning applicaitons via EAS, where I right-click on the Application database, hit load data, and select from either a .txt file or an excel file. Do I need Oracle Data Integrator? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as corrections to any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this post. Thank you.

When you import your file (Excel or text), you're importing it using a Load Rule in EAS. To load from SQL, you simply create a SQL load rule. You'll load data the exact same way (via EAS), but with a different type of load rule. The load rule will contain the SQL that queries the database. You can preview your data in the load rule the same way you would with a file.
If your SQL is very complex, I'd recommend creating a view and loading from that view. But otherwise it's pretty straight-forward.
The only catch is that you need to configure a database connection (to your relational database) on the Essbase server. The Essbase DBA guide will show you how to do this.
You COULD use ODI, but I tend to only use it for loading metadata.

Planning and Essbase apps with same name on HSS-enabled Essbase server

I have an Essbase app "FOO" which was migrated from another Essbase server. I re-pointed an existing planning app also called "FOO" at this new server/app using the configuration setup utility. As soon as I did this, the app "FOO" disappears from the list of Essbase apps in EAS and HSS. The Essbase .sec file now has it listed as "Client Application Type: PLANNING". This is not so good as I now can't apply provisioning etc. to the Essbase app. I need to see this in both projects, as it was before - any ideas?
I tried:
* A MAXL re-register of the app but you can't as it gives "ERROR - 1051494 - Re-Registeration not allowed on planning application"
* In Planning, register the app with the HSS "Analytical Services" app but there is a bug in the GUI interface. The project name for an Essbase server always contains colon ":" characters and the GUI splits the project list on these so it's a mess and you can't select the project you need.

You can try to mount all these mount points via NFS in one additional server and then export this new tree again via NFS to all your servers.
No sure if this works. If this works, then you will have in this case just an additional level in the tree.

Planning and Essbase Security Issue

Hi, we just upgraded to 11.1.2 and have been noticing occasional loss of security on LDAP groups. Hyperion SS refreshes the LDAP groups from LDAP periodically and the Workspace/Planning/Essbase servers refresh cache from SS. However, some times, these cache refreshes fail leaving users without any access. We have been working with Oracle to find a resolution, however, haven't had much of a luck so far.
Just wanted to check if anyone has faced and resolved such an issue.

Can we use ODI with Informatica for Planning and Essbase

If we have Informatica datawarehouse, can I use ODI to integrate with Essbase and Planning ? Or do we need to buy informatica adapters for essbase/planning ?

Thank you John, for your response. We are accessing our options as to which way to go. We dont have licenses for ODI for Essbase or Planning. We have informatica expertise we would like to use them. The confusion is should we buy the adapters for informatica or licenses for ODI. I understand having ODI with Informatica would add an additional integration layer.

Does anyone have a document relating set up of multicurrency and exchange rate difference ?
I am currently testing an implementation of multi currency set up and testing how exchange rate difference is treated in SAP b1 .
So far ,I have found only e learning . I couldn't find EES and wiki

Planning and FR User access

Hi All,
I am having a Entity dimension in Planning application which contains departments.
Users have been given access to departments to which they belong.
Also I am having a FR report where Entity dimension is in User POV. It prompts to user whenever report is ran so that user can select department.
Though user has been given access to certain departments in FR-POV selection he is able to see all departments. How to restrict it to only his departments.
Any suggestion.

I am sure it can also differ depending on whether you use an essbase connection or a planning details connection in FR.^^^ Fair enough, and that's the only way to get to cell text, supporting detail, account annotations (I think this is so on the last one), etc. But it is slower than watching grass grow during a drought.
What's even more confusing is that if you had a system that is a mix and match of Planning and Essbase data sources in HFR, some reports will use Planning's quasi-METAREAD filters and others (the Essbase ones) will not.
What do you do -- go for the Planning data sources exclusively, mix and match, roll your own METAREADs, or just not worry about it and let the users filter it themselves?

Planning and EIS

Does planning work with EIS? If we wanted to write back to the detail (in relational table) from planning, is that possible?Thanks for any suggestions!

Planning requires that the metadata either be defined manually or via HAL. So, out of the box, Planning doesn't snap in with EIS.That said, you can certainly architect a solution that incorporates Planning, a detailed reporting solution in Essbase, coordination between Planning and Essbase via Partitioning, and an EIS package to allow drill to detail from the reporting cube. That is exactly the architecture that we are implementing at a client currently. If you insisted on connecting EIS with your Planning cubes, I've been told that it is possible to fake EIS and convince it that it built the Planning Essbase cubes, thereby allowing drill back.

Multi Currency planning Application(Xchange rate not pushed to Essbase)

In planning Application "ABC"
If i change the values manually in "EXCHANGE RATE TABLE"
after i refresh the data into the Essbase
and run "HSPCRTB"
the value changes in the Spreadsheet... (i.e Exchange rates are visible)
But when i follow the same process for the n Planning Application "XYZ"
The Spreadsheet is not showing the Xchange rate values..
"XYZ" this application is built 2 years ago but.. this is the first time i am using for currency.
i.e Exchange rates.. values to input
Is there anything i need to do for the first time when i input the FX rates and push into the essbase?
Can you please suggest me for further process of
"Xchange rates to be visible in Essbase" ?

Both of them are Multi currency Applications, i used Exchange rate table in both the applications
and also the rates are assigned to scenarios and after the refreshing the Database,
there is only one default currency script generated in EAS console for each DB, i.e "HspCRtB"
I run that script after i refreshed
But the rates are not populated into the essabse cube.
I am stuck over there... please do give me suggestion if u find anything else left out, that i missed.

Use the default parser.
By default, WebLogic Server is configured to use the default parser and transformer to parse and transform XML documents. The default parser and transformer are those included in the JDK 5.0.
The built-in WebLogic Server DOM factory implementation class is com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl.
The DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance method returns the built-in parser.

Not able to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Servic

I am trying to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Services but I get the following error message.

Filter and general access issues from planning to essbase

Hi all,
V 9.3.1 Planning
I am working on a planning system where the business owners would like to restrict the lock and sending of data via smartview. Basically, users are bypassing parts of planning and going directly to essbase rather than forms. They had individual user filters setup but they would like to move to groups. I am using the importsecurity utility to try and achieve this. However, the access granted and filters are producing the following behaviour
1)Group has essbase write access - if this is enabled there appears to be unrestricted access via smartview. Take it away and #NoAccess appears despite security being applied to certain members using the importsecurity utility. I have read that this can be a bit of a loose canon when granted and conflicts with filters.
2) Cannot create filters - I wish to remove all user filters from within planning. However, the importsecurity sl_clearall command doesn't clear them (as I thought it would but appear to be wrong). I cannot create any filters. An error appear saying 'Failed to create Security Filters for the following users: xxxx' Is it possible to delete the filters?
3) If I refresh the security filters I get errors saying 'the following filters could not be created' but they are in EAS (I deleted all filters before hand). I have run the updateusers utility which tidied up msad users but still errors are reported.
The objective is to restrict each group to be able to write to the permitted part of the application and read where necessary. The permissions in planning need to match essbase.
I would appreciate any help.
