Multi Display config possible with HD Cinema Displays?????

Hello Everyone,
Not sure if anyone has asked this question before. I searched it here and didn't find anything. Anyway is it possible to remove the display stand that is attached to a 24" HD Cinema Display and mount it to another stand that is capable of supporting 2 displays? Has anyone ever done this with Apple displays? If so, where can I buy these mounts, stands, hardware, etc. any help appreciated. BTW I did search the net and the Apple site with no luck.

Okay. So you have a brandy new 2010 Mac Pro Quad core 3.2 GHz. That would come with one of two cards, either of which has one DVI and two Mini DisplayPort connectors.
The DVI will support a single link 23" display with no problem. It can also support a display wider than 1920 wide if you use a Dual-Link cable. In your case a Dual Link cable on the DVI port is not required. You can use your old cable and it will work fine.
For Mini DisplayPort, you are supposed to be able to plug in a single link adapter to DVI and have it work with any display under 1920 wide. As long as you NEVER want to support three displays, you should be fine.
When you want to support three displays, each of the Mini DisplayPort adapters has to be a POWERED Adapter, such as the Apple Dual Link adapter, or certain other brands listed as ACTIVE or POWERED. If there is a USB connector at the Computer end, it MUST be plugged into the computer, not left dangling, because it is providing an extra shot of power.
The reason for all this fru-fru is that the signal levels for DVI are a bit higher than the ones provided by Mini DisplayPort, and they need a modest boost. For three displays, the total boost adds up to more power than the card can provide by itself, and you must have powered adapters on the Mini DisplayPorts.

I have owned a Dual 2GHz 64 bit Power PC since 2004. In that time, it has performed virtually flawlessly (as in having no major issues to speak of). Now, all of a sudden, I'll be working away and a warning window with a large white exclamation mark in a red octagon pops-up stating: “USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The port to which it is attached will be deactivated.” The window repeats itself cascading down 3, 4 or 5 times. This will continue to happen even when I’ve disconnected the only 2 USB devices attached to the computer, i.e., an Apple keyboard and a Kensington Expert Mouse (#K64325). Can anyone shed some light on this problem. It is very disconcerting (not to mention annoying). Does anyone have a solution for me (other than “junk the old beast”)? The fact is it still works great with both Final Cut and Pro Tools. Last but not least, I think I’ve narrowed the problem down to my 22” Cinema display. With the computer is attached to another monitor, I’ve yet to have that warning pop up. Is that possible? Could the display be the culprit?

Yes, in answer to your question (BDAqua) my Cinema Display has a ADC connector & USB ports on the back.
Your asking that question brings another to mind. If there are those, who have figured out, wherein the actual problem lies, i.e., with the monitors that have USB connectors built in, why didn't Apple just issue a recall on those monitors rather than having so much spurious and speculative information floating around out there on the internet?
I've just for the first time tuned in to these user forums and blogs only to discover that this is a wide spread problem that has been going on for years. (???) People saying, "Oh you just need to restart the computer" or "it's a bad mouse" or "bad keyboard" or worse yet, "it's your MOTHERBOARD!!!" when in fact it appears to be none of the above. Surely this is something that Apple became aware of long ago. Why didn't they correct the problem raher than letting it persist and making their buying public jump through hoops. I've been an Apple user for many many years. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars with that company from my first Quadra 950 to my MacPro -- I find this very disappointing.

Look, you can build an HD DVD with an SD movie, just as you can build an SD DVD with an HD movie. This is not a bug, it is most likely user error. Apple will not be addressing it.
Just start over, and ensure you are building an SD DVD by bringing up the inspector for the disc (click on the background in the Graphical tab).
Make sure SD DVD is selected:
(If you do the same thing on your ill fated project, you'll see that HD DVD is selected)
Build your DVD and you'll be fine.

P.S. You will need to google HD DVD and Blu-Ray if you want to understand the difference between the formats. The reason that DVDSP included HD DVD was that its format was similar to SD DVD's. Blu-Ray is something else entirely.

I am using and enjoying my 27" Cinema Display with my October 2008 MacBook Pro 5,1. The display is breathtaking and its operation with my computer is flawless. I strongly recommend that you consider getting an Apple external keyboard and Magic Trackpad to use with your MBP and Cinema Display.
If you have a MBP 5,1 as your post indicates, it has both a 9400M and a 9600M GT GPU, not a 9200M.

Xcode Multi Display Program

Hey guys,
So I'm trying to create a program in xcode that allows you to display dynamic content on an external display in a full screen window, and on the primary screen, have a window that has controls for the content. Here is my question:
How do I get the display window to 1. Start on the external display, and 2. Get it to go full screen? I know how to enable full screen on the windows, but when I have the window on the external screen and click full screen, it slides over to the primary display and goes fullscreen.
Once I get this enabled its smooth sailing from here.

Thanks! Unchecking of that checkbox — Displays Have Separate Spaces in Mission Control pref — helps! It’s so unintuitive to go there.
Some apps still misbehave but minor. Call Recorder, for example, (an add-on to Skype) is now flung way over to the opposite end of the other display. Weird.
But the bigger problems remain:
1. Brightness is still manual. Automatically Adjust Brightness controls only one (primary) display? No effect on a 2010 LED 24-inch Apple display?!
2. Excel windows still float off beyond the screen. Is MS Excel for Mac 2011 considered incompatible with Mavericks? Every functionality in Excel works fine, except that windows saved in a position outside the display area, like older documents, remain fixed outside the display area! So if the title bar is not visible, there’s no way to grab it and move it! I have to temporarily re-ARRANGE the displays again and again! Then do a save-as or duplicate the document. Uggghh.
Finder windows still don’t keep their views but probably not a multi display issue.

Multi Display on K230

Has anyone got ANY vidio card to be reconized on the K230 for multi display? I have tried two cards, both were not reconized by the bios but actually did work on Vista at VGA default.
No one in the support staff have a clue on making this work. There must be one card the bios will see and work. Why put the expansion bus in if you can not use them......?

I used the Nvidia 8400GS PCI. Bios did not see it, Windows device manager did not see it, however the computer was using the card as a VGA default (Intel onboard card was disabled in the bios).
I don't remember the other card, sent it back.
I have ordered the Nvidia 8600 to see if that will work, seen in a post that it did.
Also see post: K230 64 bit with Vista Ultimate, this is a post I did awhile back without any success.

Ivy Bridge GPU and multi-display configuration

Intel says that the new Ivy Bridge processors can cope with 3 different displays instead of 2 possible with the former generation CPUs. I know that with Mini Dock 3 Plus, the X220 can run two external monitors.
Will an X230 (with Ivy Bridge) run 3 of them, like the ThinkPads with Nvidia Optimus technology?
What max. resolution can they have in this scenario? 3x 1920x1200 or less?
How to evaluate it for any screen configuration?
Maybe I should ask Intel about that.

Below are some converters/adapters to look at. If these look like they may work:
USB 2.0 to HDMI Audio Video 1080P Adapter for Windows and Macbook
Matrox DualHead2Go D2G-A2D-IF (or look here)
These should allow you to run multiple displays in extended display mode. Note that these use HDMI as an output so you would need some additional adapter to conver HDMI to whatever your displays require. Of course these suggestions are all academic if such an adapter doesn't exist.
Update:
I just reread your last post and I am confused. Is it only your TV that you are trying to run in extended display mode? I thought you wanted more than two displays. If only the TV it should just work if you are not using mirrored displays. Your Displays Arrangement tab should show both your main screen (one with the little whith menu bar) and the TV. Set the proper resolution and refresh rate for the TV using it's Displays preference window. That is all you need to basically do (ignoring overscan/underscan problems).
Note, if you are using Lion then I have heard that when using full screen mode in Lion additional screens show nothing.

Multi-display windows under Mavericks

Under 10.6.8, it has been my habit (and pleasure) to open very wide terminal windows across as many as three displays in order to see the results of somewhat wide database queries without text wrapping, which affects readability and cuts the number of lines visible on the display window at once.
Under 10.9.3, when I adjust a window over towards another display so that the window would be on both displays, the window is "ghosted" until I let go of the drag bar, and if the move has not fully adjusted the window to land entirely on the display it is moving into, that half of the window promptly disappears.
Am I missing something about window positioning under Mavericks? Or, is there any way to regain the previous, multi-display-friendly window handling in Mavericks?

Well I tried doing it and am facing a lot of problems.
1. When I try to create a page in the child, it creates a duplicate page and hence two UIModels are created.
2. Also there is an extra directory created in the common public_html folder as child1/child1.
Could some one work that link out. I have failed to figure out what's going wrong.
My problem doesn't end there. The link tells us that we can create multi struts app, but how do we link the pages created in these applications together?

a smarter way would be to use Virtual Private
Databases if the database is Oracle. This way you
don't have to bother within your application to do
this. We do have a VPD example in teh howtos for
JDeveloper 9i.Tnx for the suggestion, but I needed a solution within ADF.
If you want to do this on teh middle tier, use a bind
variable in the BC query and populate this through an
exposed method on the AM. I found even simpler solution... I let user choose an employee and fix this employee's id with a setCurrentRowWithKeyValue operation (drag-n-drop to a Data Action). Afterwards all the screens based on child view objects in the Data Control Palette hierarchy display only data from a fixed employee.

Also, i notice that using window 8, i am able to capture Bluetooth message but i am not able to display wireless perfromance statistics such as signal strength, throughput, etc? Is there a way for me to get such information.

Is pagination possible with jmx metrics on OEM?

Hi, I implemented a MXBean interface which returns a list of objects (say, 100 rows of data). On oem, the list of 100 row data is displayed. However, I want to paginate that 100 rows, say 25 rows per display. Is this possible? I actually tried to have a parameter on the MXBean operation/attribute as the index and implement the pagination logic on the MXBean, but this still seems not possible because I have to give the value for that parameter at the time when I generate the metadata, and this parameter can not be changed once the monitoring target is added on OEM. So, I am wondering if pagination is possible with OEM, and how can I achieve that?

Since by definition a single EM agent must reside on a single database host, then, no, you can't monitor multiple hosts.
Unless you mean that you want to monitor multiple virtual hosts from a single physical host ... but in that case, you'd still need one host per database host.
That's just the way EM works. Always has, probably always will.
