Multi-display windows under Mavericks

Under 10.6.8, it has been my habit (and pleasure) to open very wide terminal windows across as many as three displays in order to see the results of somewhat wide database queries without text wrapping, which affects readability and cuts the number of lines visible on the display window at once.
Under 10.9.3, when I adjust a window over towards another display so that the window would be on both displays, the window is "ghosted" until I let go of the drag bar, and if the move has not fully adjusted the window to land entirely on the display it is moving into, that half of the window promptly disappears.
Am I missing something about window positioning under Mavericks? Or, is there any way to regain the previous, multi-display-friendly window handling in Mavericks?

  • Where did detect displays button go in Display pref under Mavericks

So both my friend and I have MacBook Air machines. Under OS 10.9 there is no button for detct displays. Also when we plugged into an HDMI TV using the lightening display port through an adapter. No hint that the preference even knows about multiple displays, much less detecting one.
Under 10.8 there was a detect displays, now nothing.

Well, it allowed us to see the detect displays (Thanks!) but it will not detect the TV. Now the adapter and cable worked with his MacBook Pro (10.8) and,  the HDMI cable plugged into a PC Laptop currently works. So That tells that it is either something with the new MacBook Air or with Mavericks.
I am not sure which adapter it is, but it isn't Apple.

  • Why doesn't the Adobe Flash Player plugin show in Firefox's "Plugins" window under Mavericks 10.9.3?

    My specs are:
    Mavericks 10.9.4
    Firefox 30.0
    Flash Player Plugin 14.0.0.125
The plugin is visually verified to be properly installed in the "Internet Plug-Ins" folder in the main library, and not the user library.

    Hello all,
My doubt was correct. It was all due to the blank device list. After lot of struggle I found this solution worked for me:
    1. As soon as the plug-in tries to access webcam, it will show you "Adobe Flash Player Settings" box
    2. Click Deny then Close to close it
    3. Now press tab key on keyboard. It will highlight (in yellow) and show list of devices in video device dropdown control (This could be little bit tricky and you need to put little bit more efforts to see the list). You can now select your webcam as device here.
    4. Press Tab key again to go audio dropdown and select audio device.
    5. Then right click and bring up "Adobe Flash Player Settings" again.
    6. Under Microphone and Camera tabs, make sure we select same devices we selected in 3 & 4 above
    7. Come back to privacy tab and this time chose "Allow" and then close "Adobe Flash Player Settings" box
    8. You should now see the camera images in the plug-in
Conclusion: This is a workaround worked for me. Plug-in is quite unstable and there is definitely something here Adobe Flash Player plug-in developers need to do about.
Hope this workaround helps many other users.
    Thanks,
    Struggler

  • MacBook Pro cannot connect to external display (projector) under Windows

Our office has got one of those lovely new 13" MacBook Pros and we cannot figure out why it cannot connect to either of our 2 projectors with Windows 7.
We have an older MBP with NVidia graphics that connects just fine under both OS X and Windows. And this machine connects fine under Snow Leopard.
There was a recent Thunderbolt chipset update and we applied that; on the Windows side the Intel driver has been updated but nothing happens. Have also zapped the PRAM to no effect.
To add another wrinkle: I just connected the MBP to my Cinema Display and the external display shows fine in both OS X and Windows--Windows didn't even require me to go to the control panel.
This leads me to two thoughts: either it is something with the Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (hard to believe, though, since it works for OS X) or it is something to do with the native resolution of the projector (equally hard to believe, as changing through various settings in Windows NOTHING happens on the external projector--it doesn't blink, go back or anything.)
    Any ideas?

I wish I could find the discussion, but I cannot.
There was a discussion about the Windows 7 driver for the Thunderbolt port.  The conclusion I believe was that it only outputs digital signals, not analog.
    The other conclusions were:
A USB-VGA adapter adapter bypasses this limitation because the driver is in the adapter itself and works regardless of the OSX/Windows operating system in charge.
Run Windows under VM, where OSX is in charge and can create analog output through Thunderbolt
If only I could find that thread ...

  • Main display blank after sleep under Mavericks

I use a NEC Multisync LCD 2690 as my main display, and a small Hansol H550 as a secondary one; when waking up from sleep, the NEC is blank and everything is crammed up on the Hansol. Under Lion, I could go to the System Preferences, choose Monitors and Detect Monitors to force the displays to correct themselves but this feature is absent under Mavericks; any idea how I could correct this without having to perform a complete restart each time the Mac Pro goes to sleep?

Found the so-called missing feature: in System Preferences, choose Monitors and hold down the Option key to get the Dectect Monitors button. Still, loosing the main display after sleep is a BIG bug...
P.S. I’m working with a French system, the naming of the features might be slightly off.

  • Windows will not install under Mavericks

I am trying to install W7, again, under Mavericks and I cannot do so. Every thing seem to be installed but at start, I get a message that "BOOTMGR is missing, press ctl+alt+delete to restart", but the keyboard (wired and working) will not function so I can do nothing. I have tried more than once. I am trying to install W7 Home Premium and it is a legit disc. I installed the same disc under SN and all was fine.

Are you using Boot Camp, if so then please re-post in the Boot Camp forum. If you are using a virtualization app (Parallels, Fusion, etc) please post in that forum.
These are the best methods for installed Windows, this is a general iMac forum while there are a few people that post here that know MS Windows most are OS X oriented.
    Good luck.

  • Display is under Windows XP a lot Brigther

My Macbook Pro (LED) Display is under Windows XP a lot Brigther then in OS X.
When i sitting Outside, i put the Brigthness under OS X to Maximum to see anything, under Windows Xp ist enough 75%. The Display is Calibrated.
Someone know a sulotion to get the same Brithness as in Windows?

Perhaps try turning off "automatically adjust brightness" in the Displays pref pane? I don't know for sure, but I suspect that doesn't affect Windows (if you're running Windows in BootCamp), which might account for the difference.

  • When lock My MacBook under Maverick i want to prevent Display sleep. How to to this?

When lock My MacBook under Maverick i want to prevent Display sleep. How to to this?

I agree this is works when MacBook is locking after some time. Once I press keyboard shortcut to lock, Display also is set to sleeping mode, So question is how to prevent this in this case?
    Thank you!

  • After installing Mavericks, CS 6 Photoshop won't keep a display window viewable to open a file

When I try to open a Photoshop file from both a dropdown (File > Open) or command O, the display window will stay open for a brief moment before closing.
On occasion I'll get the error *** -[_NSArrayM objectAtIndex:]: index 39 beyond bounds [0 .. 38]
Other times the error will say Could not complete your request because of a program error.
Other time there is no message.
The computer I'm running is MacBook Pro with Retina display,  3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I found a solution to my issue, hopefully this helps others:
"Try switching to List or Icon view in the File > Open dialog. There seems to be an issue with the Cover Flow view (the one that looks like iTunes album covers)."

  • New Window under File doesn't open in Mavericks Safari - Bug?

This newOS is tricky!  Sarai's New Window under File isn't working for me.  When I select it nothing happens  .....

I had the same problem. Do you have Glims installed? If so, uninstalling it may fix the problem.
You can download an uninstaller here:
    http://www.machangout.com/node/9
After you mount it, and click the uninstaller, it says it won't work because it's an unidentified developer. So you have to right click and do Open, and then it will give you the option to open.
After I uninstalled it, Safari 7.0 works fine!

  • Xcode Multi Display Program

    Hey guys,
So I'm trying to create a program in xcode that allows you to display dynamic content on an external display in a full screen window, and on the primary screen, have a window that has controls for the content.  Here is my question:
How do I get the display window to 1. Start on the external display, and 2. Get it to go full screen?  I know how to enable full screen on the windows, but when I have the window on the external screen and click full screen, it slides over to the primary display and goes fullscreen.
Once I get this enabled its smooth sailing from here.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Mark

Thanks! Unchecking of that checkbox — Displays Have Separate Spaces in Mission Control pref — helps! It’s so unintuitive to go there.
Some apps still misbehave but minor. Call Recorder, for example, (an add-on to Skype) is now flung way over to the opposite end of the other display. Weird.
    But the bigger problems remain:
    1. Brightness is still manual. Automatically Adjust Brightness controls only one (primary) display? No effect on a 2010 LED 24-inch Apple display?!
    2. Excel windows still float off beyond the screen. Is MS Excel for Mac 2011 considered incompatible with Mavericks? Every functionality in Excel works fine, except that windows saved in a position outside the display area, like older documents, remain fixed outside the display area! So if the title bar is not visible, there’s no way to grab it and move it! I have to temporarily re-ARRANGE the displays again and again! Then do a save-as or duplicate the document. Uggghh.
Finder windows still don’t keep their views but probably not a multi display issue.

  • Why doesn't Screen Sharing work across multiple displays anymore in Mavericks?

    Hey Guys,
I'm having a problem with Screen Sharing in Mavericks. It wasn't a problem in Mountain Lion, so I'm wondering if you could help me.
I use a Mac Pro with multiple displays to connect to another Mac Pro with multiple displays. Here's how it looks at first:
Two remote desktops shown in one window on one display locally. (Note: there are two different displays connected to this Mac Pro.)
In Mountain Lion, I used to be able to scale this up across displays. When I do that now, the remote desktop scales down to the lower-left corner. Observe:
When I mouse over it, there's some screen tearing (artifacts):
    Any ideas?
    Notes:
    Yes, I've Google'd it.
I don't have Mavericks' multi-display support enabled. I disabled it to spread out Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects usage.
    Thank you,
    Isaac T.

  • ITunes crashes in Mountain Lion virtual machine under Mavericks host

I have been trying to test iTunes 11 under Mountain Lion in a VM running under Mavericks using the 30-days demo mode of Fusion 6, so that I can make a purchase decision.
Each time I have tried to conduct the necessary tests, iTunes crashes in the Mountain Lion VM.
The crash report shows that it is an Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP).
These crashes have happened after each of three occasions that I've created a brand new VM and then installed Mountain Lion in it.
The crashes consistently and reliably happen after I click the Accept button in iTunes' splash screen or after I click any of iTunes' menubar items.
The VM has no third-party apps; I've only created the VM, installed Mountain Lion (on two occasions updated to 10.8.5 using the combo updater; on the third, left it at 10.8.3 as installed), and then installed VMWare Tools.
On two of the three occasions, during the installation process, I chose "Mac OS 10.8" from the list of guest Mac OS versions because "Mac OS 10.8-64 bit" was not one of the options.
On the third occasion, I chose "Mac OS 10.7-64 bit" and renamed the VM to "Mac OS 10.8-64 bit."
I am using Mountain Lion's "InstallEDS" disk image file from the factory installation that came with my MacBook Pro with Retina display (which I subsequently updated to Mavericks).
Can someone please point me in the proper direction for getting this VM prepared so that iTunes launches properly?
    Many thanks in advance!

This problem evidently is related to VMWare Tools.
I created a second virtual hard drive in the Fusion VM, cloned a vanilla Mountain Lion installation to the second virtual hard drive, and then launched Mountain Lion iTunes in the VM without installing VMWare Tools.
iTunes behaved normally; I could click the Agree button in the splash screen and access iTunes' menubar items normally.
After installing VMWare Tools, I launched iTunes and it became very unstable; clicking any menubar item or just resizing the application's window resulted in iTunes quitting unexpectedly.
I then uninstalled VMWare Tools using the uninstall application.
    iTunes then behaved normally again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or know how to install VMWare Tools without compromising iTunes' stability?

  • Printing to an Epson 7900 under Mavericks

Anyone experienced problems printing to an Epson 7900 under Mavericks OS X 10.9 ?
According to Epson I have the latest drivers installed for the 7900, V9.04
I have 2 MACS - a MacBookPro running under Mountain Lion and I've updated my MacBook Air to run 10.9.
No problems printing the same file from the MacBookPro.
On the MacAir, I certainly see the printer; can send a file to it - but it prints and is terribly garbled.  I see supply levels on the MacAir too.
But the interaction with the Driver is strange - it keeps reverting back to my HP 2100, Updating the settings in the printing Presets doesn't stick, etc.
the print is an almost total mess - it's the right size and you can see the image and some parts are fine - but the rest of it looks like it's done with drastic motion blur (so that looks like the driver is scrambling something).
If nobody else has seen this, then I will start by deleting the driver; re-installing it all and so forth - but just interested to see if anybody else out there has had trouble with it.

  • Multi Display on K230

Has anyone got ANY vidio card to be reconized on the K230 for multi display?  I have tried two cards, both were not reconized by the bios but actually did work on Vista at VGA default.
No one in the support staff have a clue on making this work.  There must be one card the bios will see and work.  Why put the expansion bus in if you can not use them......?

I used the Nvidia 8400GS PCI.  Bios did not see it, Windows device manager did not see it, however the computer was using the card as a VGA default (Intel onboard card was disabled in the bios).
I don't remember the other card, sent it back.
I have ordered the Nvidia 8600 to see if that will work, seen in a post that it did.
Also see post:  K230 64 bit with Vista Ultimate, this is a post I did awhile back without any success.
