Multi-File Find searching old content

A topic contained "content A". I edited it to contain
"content B" and saved my change. The modified date of the topic is
1/18/2008. But now when I use Muti-File Find to search for "content
A" it still lists that topic and highlights the content A in the
preview window. When I view the topic "content A" is not there. Its
as if the Muti-File Find utility is looking at an out of date
database. Is there a refresh or rebuild or something that I should
be doing?

Hi RoboKate and welcome to the RH community.
Can you check that you are looking at the correct version of
the topic source. Also look in the topic's truecode. The find and
replace tool looks there rather than the WYSIWYG and there may be a
further instance in there.
As an aside, most users find a third party tool such as
bkreplacem or
FAR more reliable
and feature rich.

  • "File, Find, Searching "This Mac" or "New Finder Window" not finding files ?

    I an iMac 7,1, Mac OS X 10.6.8, Build 10K549,
I have noticed on many occasions recently that when I ma using either ...
    File, Find, Searching "This Mac"
    or
    "New Finder Window"
I am NOT finding the files I am looking for ...
I now they are there, so I go through all my folders, and find the files, or folders I am looking for ...
So why could this be happening, why are they not found in the search ?
Is there a fix or addition ?

As baltwo eventually explained, you have to add the search criteria "System files" to your search, with the option "Include" selected, to find many items Spotlight otherwise excludes from search results. Alternately (& quite ridiculously), if your search is restricted to the parent folder containing the item, you don't need to add this.
For example, if you open /Library in the Finder, enter "Desktop Pictures" in the search box, you won't get it in the results with the default "This Mac" location, but if you click "Library" for the location, you will. (Yes, many users think this is bizarre, "what were they thinking?" behavior.)
What Spotlight considers "system files" is only slightly less bizarre, as you will probably discover once you start using it to broaden searches. For instance, Safari history items & Mail.app messages are not found unless you include system files, but many files like C Header Source files (in System/Library/Frameworks) are found without including system files in the search.
When it was introduced in Tiger, Spotlight was supposed to be a next-generation search engine, capable of accurately guessing what you were looking for (& filtering out what you weren't) with near-sentient intelligence. I think almost anyone who used that version will agree it did not achieve that lofty goal. Apple apparently agreed, or at least listened to the complaints enough to realize it needed rethinking. Unfortunately, what its designers came up with for the Leopard rethink feels like an early beta version, full of hastily implemented, quirky features that never got sorted out before it was released.
We can only hope that we won't have to wait for OS 10.6 for a more mature, less quirky version.

  • Multi File Find and Replace FAR missing from tools

I have RoboHelp x5.0.2 and I have always used Find and
Replace at my previous employer. I have started with a new company
and the RoboHelp FAR is missing from Tools. I know you can Add a
tool if you know the path, but I have no idea where to look.
    Some background:
We use Source Safe (VSS) to check our files in and out.
I have verified that all of the files are NOT read-only.
    HELP!!!!

Maybe you are mixing up something. RoboHelp includes a tool
named Multi-File Find and Replace. This should indeed be situated
    on the Tools pane.
There exists a tool called FAR, which, among other things,
offers a similar functionality. FAR is shareware and
    not included in RoboHelp.

  • Multi File Find/Replace: XP

    Good afternoon,
When trying to do a find and replace (or just a find) across
multiple files, HS is no longer working. It will not find any
instances of the search string in any document. If the search is
done on a single document, then it does indeed work.
Using HomeSite 5.5 (version 6.0.0.7658) on Windows XP
    Professional.
This is happening on multiple computers at our location.
    Thanks
    Fred

I was able to get it working again by uninstalling HomeSite
    and then reinstalling it.
There's probably a better way but when all else fails
    reinstall and reboot.

  • Changing the editor for Multi-File Find and Replace

When I click edit on a file it opens it up inside Word. Anyway to get this tool to open the topic inside RH? Or inside another text editor like Notepad++? I don't trust Word to leave my code like I want it.
    Thanks in advance,

RH 7 (latest patches) authoring in RoboHTML
    Win 7 64-bit machine

I just thought I would resurrect this thread, because I am encountering the same issue, except for me the Edit button just opens the topic IE.  As such, the only way to edit the topic is to right-click and choose View Source, then do another Find to get to the bit I wanted to edit, which is a bit of a faff.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with IE9 and RH8.  As well as the suggestions made here, I have tried changing IE's HTML editor from the developer window (as described here), which works for IE itself, but not RH.  I've also tried editing the Registry and adding the path to Notepad++ to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\Notepad++.exe\Shell\edit\command.  Again, this makes no difference, which leads me to think there is no association between IE9 and RH8.
The twist for me is last time I used this tool I'm sure it worked, but it has been a while and I cannot remember what other software changes have taken place that could affect RH.
    Regards
    Matt

  • Changing links? Multi-file find-and-replace?

So Dw has some sort of global link change tool, doesn't it? If I want to change "assets/video/banner.gif" to "assets/animation/banner.gif" everywhere it occurs in all of my local files -- how would I do that? Thanks!

  • Bug in Multi-File Search and Replace in RH6?

I'm using the 6.0 trial, and one thing I want to be able to
do is to replace the variables I put in using JavaScript with the
new feature variables in 6.0. So, I went in to multi-file search
    and replace, and searched for:
    <script
    language=JavaScript>document.write(varProduct)</script>
I copied this code directly from a topic, and pasted it into
    the Search tool.
I don't even care whether I can successfully copy the code
from my new variable for use as the replacement text; I'd be happy
if the multi-file search would simply find all occurrences of my
original code so I don't miss any during conversion to 6.0.
It keeps coming up as not found, and this concerns me
greatly. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known bug? Does
    anyone have a workaround?
    Thanks!

    Hi robowriter
I'm assuming you are using the wondrous little applet known
    as Multi-File Find and Replace.
Unfortunately, this little beastie is like a cat. It
frequently has a fussy tummy and loves to hork up furballs. Well,
not exactly. Really what it does is fail to properly handle
anything with a line break. So you need a tool that does do this.
Fortunately, one exists! It is called FAR (Find And Replace). Oddly
enough, it was also written by a fellow Microsoft Help MVP named
Rob Chandler. (Rob lives in Australia)
You can download a trial version of FAR from the FAR page.
    the FAR page

  • When I search by content, email content isn't recognized so isn't found.

I've been saving some Apple emails by drag/dropping them to the desktop and later to various folders. When I did a Finder Search of Contents test of several of these saved email with the .eml suffix, my iMac did not find them. I converted some to PDFs, which would be a pain because I have so many, and my iMac found the emails via the same Contents search.
How can I get my iMac to find content in an email file?

Try disabling your security software and turning off the Firewall on your PC.
    Disable antivirus software

  • Finder/Spotlight does not seem to be searching the contents of docx files anymore. How do I re-enable this search function?

I used to be able to search the contents of .docx MS Word files in the past, but this feature suddenly stopped working.
Anyone else experiencing this as well and is there a fix?
    Thanks.

Similar or same problem, with similar and same hardware/software.  This is incredibly frustrating given that for the last ten years we've been told not to worry about organizing our files but instead rely on tags and meta-data.
.docx files are found when no file content is searched.
When some content is searched, recent .docx files (last 7 days) files may appear, but nothing older.
Just to be clear, when any content is searched for, no .docx files older than 7 days are present in search results.
However, .doc files with identical content are found, as are PDFs etc.
    Reindexing changes nothing.

My computer was formatted but I need to access my old content on my itunes backups. Is there any way I can acquire these iTunes backup files ever again?
I tried recovery software but had no luck!

You reformatted the drive in your computer. The backup files you want to access were overwritten when you re-formatted the drive. They are gone. There may be data recovery services that can get them back. Search google if you want. This has absolutely nothing to do with using an iPhone at this point. You deleted files on your computer...

  • How to search the contents of emlx files in 10.7 Lion ?

    Hi,
Since Apple Mail in 10.7 leaved some messages in a Mail Lost+Found folder it would be nice to find out which of those messages might also exist in the active mailboxes and since Apple Mail cannot import these Lost & Found mails (unless manually opened and sorted in Mail), it would be handy to do a quick search for text in these messages. Why does no Search options ever works when needed in Mac OS X ? EasyFind could not find anything either. Reindexing did not help. Raw content serach in the Finder does not help. Why cannot the Mac system be a little helpful when it comes to searching?

Yes, your conclusion seems logical, indeed, but I am copying text from an opened emlx file and even if I put it on my desktop and do a Finder search; a Spotlight search or a search via EasyFind, none of them actually find the file ... . Which may lead to the conclusion that I am doing something wrong, but I do not really think so ... .
I now even created a new folder on the desktop and dragged the emlx message from which I choose a word and try to search it with EasyFind with no success, but I eventually managed to find it through Spotlight now, but Spotlight does not find the file in the Mail Lost+Found folder. Which makes clear this is related to permissions of the files in my own home folder that Lion has given them. And, yes, the solution is that the folder where the emlx file is stored within the Mail Lost+Found folder has no read permissions for anyone but the owner.
Problem solved. Have to verify this on other computers (but the permissions were not handled correctly somewhere back through history or when converting the messages from 10.6.8 ...).

  • Can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool

I am trying to get my iweb website recognized by Google. Can't seem to get the google html code to work in html snippet. So am now trying to use the iweb seo tool but can't find my iweb domain file when searching for it in iweb seo tool. My file is in user/library/applicationsupport/iweb/name.sites2
It shows in the folder but is not active, so I can't choose it.

The SEO ftp client is not what I'd recommend using. Once you add the metadata to a local copy of the files use a 3rd party ftp client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. Much more reliable.
Google does not use keywords for it's searches although other search engines do. Create a test page on your site (leave it out of the navbar) and try adding Google Analytics to it with Wyodor's instructions. If you get it to work then all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML snippet from the test page into your site pages.
For information on visitors to your site you can also use StatCounter. It records the number of visitors and a lot more: where they are from, what browser used, which page visited and what site/page then came from for just a few. SC is easy to add to the pages as you get the code for your account, put it in an HTML snippet add the snippet to each page. Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet describes how to do it.
Again use a test page or a separate test site to work out the details before adding to your site pages.

  • My iPhoto would open with stating the files were damaged. I created a new library, thinking I could just retrieve the old one through the Pictures folder. Now I cannot find the old library.

I fear I may have deleted ALL my photos!!! When opening iPhoto it stated that the photos were damaged. By creating a new photo library, I now cannot find the old photos in the Pictures file. I think I really screwed up!!!

Download and run Find Any File to search for "Library6.iPhoto" on your hard drive. That's a file that is in every iPhoto library. And  Find Any File can search inside packages as areas that Spotlight can not.
See if you find more than one of those files.  If you do then you can find out where that other library is. If there's only one found click on the Desktop to get to the Finder and use the Go ➙ Go to folder... menu option. Enter in the window /Volumes.
When you created the new library did you get this window where you were to either accept the default name that iPhoto presented or rename the new library?
