Multi-folio: submitting and approval

My project has been given the go ahead and we are nearing launch.
I have read the Adobe Publishing Companion Guide for iPad, searched the forum, and Googled but could not find answers on how a multi-folio app is submitted and approved. I understand that a multi-folio app is an Adobe DPS feature based on a shell/container library app. Does the multi-folio viewer app get submitted to Apple? If so, do I need to do a layout for it (will be using a Professional license)?
Is there a step-by-step guide that I missed that details the creation and submission of a multi-folio app?
Thanks,
Joe

You need to submit that app to Apple but you also need to make sure there is some content available to be downloaded immediately for review. You can have your first issue published as free and public or perhaps a sample issue.

  • Multi Folio App and in-app purchases

    Hi,
I got a multi-folio app that is up and running well under iOS, with free folios inside.
After completing the process of uploading public retail folios, adding them as in-app purchases in iTunes Connect and Application Loader (with screenshots, etc etc) the status of the in-app purchases remain in "Ready for Submit" yellow light, and it seems to be stuck in that position.
The update of the binary app with IAP enabled is already cleared for sale and so forth and so on...
Anyone ever been in this situation?
    Thanks,

    Hi Bob and thanks.
The question is: in a newsstand multiapp - can i have only in app purchase subscriptions (retail) and NOT in app purchase of single folio?
    Many thanks!

  • Why is my multi folio app now not available?

    Hello
We are a small company intending to publish 4 times a year through our multi folio app (Challenger Times).
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/challenger-times/id716732152?ls=1&mt=8&utm_source=Website& utm_medium=Organic&utm_campaign=CT+2013+Q4+Apple
As we need to publish on more than just apple devices, and we wanted to create a multi folio app we, on Adobe's advice, purchased Professional edition on a monthly basis.  It was advised to us that once our app was in store and we were not publishing new versions we could go back to using the creative cloud version and the app would stay live, upgrading to professional whenever we wanted to create and publish a new folio, and paying for additional download bundles where neccesary.
HOWEVER - now our professional edition has lapsed we have been informed that new folio downloads are not available to new users. Which means we are unable to do any further promotion of it.
For a small business paying for full access for the whole year is not financially viable, especially when this is a free app which we only expect download numbers of around 500 per folio.
Now that we have created, and promoted, the app that is in store we are essentially now bound to paying the professional fee every month, which is a total nightmare for us.
Is there any way that we can make the multi folio app and current folio available for new users with a different subscription?
    HELP!

    Hi Bob
Thanks for replying, and the clarification, I'm not the developer so get my terms mixed up.  I understand that our app is still available, but without the folio content to download within it it is essentially just an empty shell, and so totally useless to any new subscribers.
Essentially my issue is still the same, someone at Adobe advised us incorrectly when we were deciding on subscriber levels and now i'm either stuck with a $500 a month charge forever or have no publication to promote.  It just seems like a really bad deal for small publishers that we are now locked into a huge monthly charge just because we wanted to make our publication available on other devices.
Is there no way we could pay a reduced level subscription for just hosting the folio content?
If anyone can point me towards someone who can help at Adobe I'd really appreciate it, we put a lot of work into our latest folio, with plans to produce another in early 2014, and we're feeling pretty despondant about this latest development.  We're going to have to completely shelve this project if there is no workaround.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • Creating a Multi Folio App from InDesign?

    Hi all --
Situation is that I have a login for an Enterprise/Pro account and I can see that all of the other apps are Multi Folio. However, when I hit Create App, it gets added no problem but its a Single-Edition.
I was told that if I want to push updates that happen instantly, it has to be a multi folio app and that single editions apps need to be completely resubmitted and it can take another 2 weeks before it's updated.
How do I create or CHANGE this single edition app to a multi folio so I can push updates to it that happen quickly?
If I hit "NEW" in the DPS App Builder and select multi folio, how does it know what my app files are?
    Thanks!

I am pretty certain we do because when I go to the app builder, I can can see multiple apps that are live including muli-folio ones. We were just given a login to this account that falls under this umbrella.
So, once I have added the app and published it, via the Folio Producer online, what would do I do next to get the .ipa and .zip I need? Would I use the DPS App Builder, create new, and make sure that the email/app ID is the same login as the Folio Producer one and it will just recognize it?

  • How can you link to other folios within multi-folio app?

    Hey all.
I have a multi-folio app and in one of the folios I need to make links to other folios within the same app.
I know you can do this across apps (see http://digitalpublishing.tumblr.com/post/26564811021/cross-publication-linking-bonus-qr-co de).
But how do you do this within the current app?
    Thanks.

Same way. Create a custom URL scheme for your app and use the "<urlscheme>://v1/folio/<folioname><articlename>" format. You can read more about this technique in DPS Tips > Advanced Overlays > Advanced Linking.
Note that this is an unsupported feature that has worked well for free folios but not well for retail folios.

  • Option to Add Built-in Folio to Multi-folio Viewer App

    Dear DPS developers,
We would like to allow potential customers to preview one issue (folio), but that could bring thousands of downloads a month (our app is #5 in it's category in Canada) and we may lose substantial amount of money on downloads. Sell the ads is not an option for us.
We can't have a lite version of the viewer either as Apple is rejecting our app - "Binary Rejected.
Reasons for Rejection: 2.9: Apps that are “beta”, “demo”, “trial”, or “test” versions will be rejected"
If we can please build our branded viewer the way it's done in Adobe Content Viewer - with access to multi folio content and one build-in folio that is part of the binary code, hence no downloads for it. This will also take signioficant amount of load off Adobe content servers as all the "trial" content will be downloaded from Apple.
    We'll appreciate your feedback.
    Thank you!
    Gennady

Wes - Unfortunately, there is currently no easy way to replace, or update, a folio created using the prerelease Content Bundler. The program team is working on a solution for an upcoming release. Until then, if the folio is Free instead of Retail, you can use the Content Bundler to delete the old folios, as you suggested, and use the new tools to publish a folio with the same name. But I wouldn't do this if I could avoid it. Your customers who have downloaded the folio will see two identical folios until they delete (archive) the older folio. If your folio is Retail, I recommend holding off on replacing the old folio until a better transition solution is in place.

  • Can I have my multi-folio app by itself and in Newsstand?

I was wondering someone could help me.
How do I make my multi-folio app available by itself and in Newsstand? Do I need to create a multi-folio with iTunes subscription? Do I have to create two versions?
And how do I upload that for approval using Application Loader?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Michelle

The nice thing about newsstand is that you get featured as a magazine. That said your app is stuck in the newsstand and there can be a little out of sight out of mind issue.
You're are able to change the cover icon when the app is in Newsstand, which can be nice.
Considering that it is a niche publication, you're probably alright goight either way, but I tend toward putting monthlies in Newsstand.

  • Multi-folio app with both portrait and landscape orientation

Can we create a multi-folio app that contains both portrait and landscape orientation folios?

A multi-folio app can have any mix of portrait, landscape, or dual-orientation folios in it. The only requirement is that for a specific folio all articles in it share the same orientation setting.

  • OTL I am trying to wright a SQL query that will return the date the timesheet was submitted and date/time it was approved, can anyone guide me on this?

    Hi
I am trying to wright a SQL query that will return the date the timesheet was submitted and date/time it was approved, can anyone guide me on this?
I basically need person name who submitted, date - time it was submitted for approval, then the person who approved it and the date - time that it was approved
    Thanks
    Ruby

    Ruby,
you can start with HXC_TIMECARD_SUMMARY table for submitter detail. But for approver details, i think you need WF tables to get the data for item type HXCEMP.

  • DPS Pro account and a multi-folio app distribution + analytics

Okay, here is the thing again.
I have talked to my client and explained him about how complex it is to track each individual (out of 30) who views a folio.
So now, he basically would be happy just to know the overall time, of how long a folio has been viewed, and also to see, which articles have been viewed the most and for how long.
I believe, analytics can provide this data without any problems, am I right? The question is, can this be seen with baseline analytics or I would need SiteCatalyst for this?
If I understand correctly, getting a Pro account would give me the possibility to create a single multi-folio app, which could contain many folios inside. I could delete and add them without the need to wait for some approvals from Apple?
But the main question is, how can I distribute this multi-folio app to specific people? Can it be sent via some link or something? Because this app is not for public use.

You need an enterprise account for private distribution.
You could fake all this by using the Adobe Content Viewer and putting a web overlay on each page with a link back to a hidden web page with google analytics. That would give you very basic idea of what's being looked at assuming each user is on line. Beyond that you have to use enterprise.

  • Distinguish mono-folio and multi-folio PDF on Windows Explorer

    Hi everyone,
is there a way to distinguish mono-folio and multi-folio PDF files on Windows' Explorer ? I mean without opening them, simply when you look at the thumbnail ?
    Thanks.

In that case, no. The icon for a PDF file is always the same, and the page count is not one of the properties displayed in the hover menus in Explorer.

  • Do all folios in a multi folio app need to be related?

I am working on an idea with my company to produce book apps for one of our publishing branches. We want to offer interactive book apps which have more interactivity than an ebook or epub3 would have, but would have too little interactivity to pass Apple and Google's "single app" review process.
The work around we are brainstorming is to create a multi-folio app for the publishing house and then create the book apps within it. I am wondering if this can be done and would be approved by the review process? The book apps would be independent publications (unlike magazine issues which share common design and featured content).
I was told a few times at PePcon 2014 that while Apple has a high rate of rejecting single folio book apps which are too "text heavy" they are more lenient with multi-folio apps during the approval process.
    Cheers,
    Sam Carbaugh

    Hi Sam,
other users will have more experience in submitting Apps and the entire approval process from Apple, but I believe you need to stick to the category you choose when creating the App in iTunes Connect (see definitions).
While that might go through a first time with a couple of publications, I wonder what would happen in the long run if you had to submit an App update with your library clearly showing much more content outside of the chosen category.
Hope that makes sense .. you may want to engage with Apple on this one to see if some categories might suit your needs better than others.

  • Multi-folio Next Steps?

I've created a multi-folio viewer, with "sample" material, published the free app and submitted it to Apple. While I wait for Apple's approval, I'm wrapping-up the folios that will follow. but will be for purchase. These folios seem to be working just fine and appearing as a download in Adobe Viewer app on the iPad.
For some reason, I can't wrap my head around what should be the next steps to publish the folios and submit to Apple. Do I create new certificates, does each new folio have a different bundle ID, what about product IDs? (I am using the same Adobe ID and using a Pro account.) How does everything connect?
I would appreciate some help getting over this hump.
    Thanks!

It's hard to tell what in particular is confusing you, so I'll give a quick overview.
On the Adobe side, you use the Account Admin tool on the Dashboard to assign the application role to the Adobe ID that you use to create and publish your folios. In Viewer Builder, you specify this Adobe ID in the "Title ID" field. Any folio you publish when signed in using this Adobe ID appears in your app's library. It sounds like you understand that part. When you publish a folio, each separate issue should have its own Product ID. Use the format "com.publisher.publication.issue." (If you're creating folio renditions to make the same issue available on different platforms such as iPhone and iPad, use the same Product ID for the different renditions of that issue.)
On the Apple side, you create one App ID for your app, along with the certificates and provisioning files. If you're selling retail content, you need to use iTunes Connect to create a Product ID for each issue. Again, use the "com.publisher.publication.issue" format. This Product ID should be identical the Product ID you specify on the Adobe side when publishing the folio as Public and Retail. In iTunes Connect, you submit these In App Purchases to Apple for approval. Apple opens the distribution app you submit and inspects the public folios you publish.
If you have a subscription app, you also need to create a Product ID for each duration. Use the "com.publisher.publication.duration" format. You specify these Product IDs when setting up the subscription app in Viewer Builder.

  • Switching from multi-folio to single edition app

I've recently had to cancel my subscription to the DPS Professional Edition in which I published an multi-folio (iPad & iPhone) app to iTunes.
Now I'd like to resubmit the app as a single edition app with my Creative Cloud subscription (which will be iPad only).
I get the following error message when submitting the app with Application Loader:
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle is invalid. The key UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities in the Info.plis may not contain values that would prevent this application from running on devices that were supported by previous versions. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle does not support one or more of the devices supported by the previous app version. Your app update must continue to support all devices previously supported. You declare supported devices in Xcode with the Targeted Device Family build setting. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
error: xcode-select: note no developer tools were found at ‘/Applications/Xcode.app’, requesting install. Choose an option in the dialog to download the command line developer tools.
And a pop up box asking if I want to install Xcode:
The “lipo” command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now? Choose install to continue. Choose get Xcode to install Xcode and the command line developer tools from the app store.
Is there a work-around for this - besides installing Xcode and trying to figure out the targeted device settings?
Or do I have to start over and apply for a brand new app in iTunes Developer, etc.?
    Thanks!

This probably isn't about features in the app. Support for Newsstand can be removed and Apple will approve the modified app. Same goes for removal of other features.
The error description from Apple is pretty clear... you have stopped supporting a device. There are only 2 devices: iPhone and iPad. If your app supports both iPad and iPhone then switching to single-issue will remove support for iPhone (as only DPS Pro and Enterprise includes support for iPhone). This is why Apple won't approve the app.
    /Peter

  • Help- Urgent- Multi-folio app not showing all languages

I created a multi-folio app in 6 languages. English the default. English shows up in app store but all the other folios for German, Italian etc don't show up. They are all published and public. I changed my ipad to Italian and I still dont' see Italian as an option. The English showed up. I also submitted the app under all 6 languages when building in App Builder and then created all the language profiles in Itunes connnect.
What's weird now that I think about it in Adobe Publisher online there is nowhere to specify a language or when I uploaded the folios there was no way to specify a language. So I think the problem is that Itunes doesn't see the other 5 languages? I just can't figure out what is wrong here and there is no documentation on the web or from adobe.
Please help as my client is going nuts as am I.
Post here but feel free to email me directly as well as this is urgent.
    [Edited at request of poster]
    Thanks!

Thanks for responding. I'm trying to follow you. Right now only english shows in the viewer but there are 6 folios. There is a different folio for each language, all published and all apart of the app, same ids etc. So, I guess what you are saying is the only way to get those languages to show up is to use is to use filters?
My understanding was if I created a multi-folio with 6 folios they will all show up. But right now only one is showing up for English. All the otherlangues don't show up in the viewer. I have no idea why? Shouldn't all the languages show up? I'm been trying to figure out where is the missing setting.
If you create a multi-folio all folios should show up for everyone regardless of language, right?
Creating different app for each language is not an option. They spent thousands for the professional account to do this. There must be a setting somewhere I'm missing.
I just looked up filters. Was I supposed to use that for the other folios?
    Thanks again for helping.
