Multi-Formats, Multiclips and Data Rate

I shot with a JVC-GY110U 720p30 and a Sony EX1 shot at 720p30. I converted both to ProRes 422HQ 720p30. My sequence is ProRes 422HQ 720p30. However, when I make a multiclip there is a red line so I can't play/edit. Looking at the item settings, the Sony has a data rate of 13.7 and the JVC 13.5. Frame rate, size are identical. What do I do? Thanks!

Thanks for writing. Here're my results and work around.
1. If all clips are ProRes422 and I make a multiclip then insert into a sequence with ProRes422 settings I have an orange line regardless of my frame rate and playback quality being dynamic or low/quarter or any combination. The playback audio is fine however the video is stuttering and when I click the different angles the selection doesn't show in the canvas. All selections are made once I hit stop.
2. If I make a multiclip then use HDV720p30 for my sequence setting, my line is green with playback:full, playback video quality: low or medium. I get an orange line with playback quality: high, HOWEVER the sequence plays fine and I see my cuts in the canvas.
Workaround: Use sequence setting of HDV720p30 to edit, then change to ProRes422 before export. Thanks again for everyone's help

  • Multi-month, year, and date-range views

My apologies for wasting everyone's time if I've missed something really obvious here, but am I correct in concluding that there is no way to generate anything beyond a static one-month view in iCal? No multi-month view? No year view? No "view date range"? At this stage of the game, how is it possible that something so elemental could be omitted from this program?
At this point I'm reduced to exporting each month to a pdf file and then arranging them as tiles on the screen. But there has to be a better way.
Short of a new version from Apple, are there any plug-ins that would do this? Does anyone have any other work-arounds? Thanks in advance.

A quick search of the forums shows that this is a HIGHLY sought after feature (including by me). We all need to use the feed back link (below) to let Apple know this. In my experience with the tech support folks, they seem to have NO idea about what these forums say. In the past I have actually had them log in to these forums and search the issue I was calling them about and they have been blown away when they see the hundreds / thousands of posts with the very same thing they're discussing with me. So, as the wise man says .. "you don't ask, you don't get!" Use the form and let them know...

  • Best Data rate and format for Big Screen Playback

I am a video producer supplying content for a tradeshow display consisting of 18 flat screens oriented vertically, 8 over 8. Very heavy duty Windows playback machine, with 3 graphics cards, 1 for each set of 6 monitors. The total pixel size is 3240x 1280 px. We have produced a number of full screen and smaller movies that the interactive programmer is trying to intergrate into a Flash program where some videos will play full screen, and others in smaller windows (those were produced in 1920x1080). All videos were mastered at the specified pixel count, square pixels, progressive, and output in Pro Res 422, 44.1K audio. Flash is being used to create the interface, and I am transcoding to .F4V at lower bit rates like 4, 6, and 9 Mbps. They are having trouble playing these movies back smoothly. We have done similar projects in the past with Director without issue. Of course they are blaming the video, I am offering to encode in any format at any data rate they suggest. Can anyone suggest a direction here?

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • H.264 All-Intra Data Rates Significantly Higher

Does the built-in H.264 codec encode I-frame only files differently? I am trying to determine the optimal GOP length for high bitrate exports. Image quality seems to degrade, even in the I-frames, when using key frame distances greater than one.
After performing a series of tests to characterize the Adobe H.264 encoder, I discovered that exported files are significantly larger when key frame distance equals one frame (N=1). The average video data rate for a test file rendered with the Adobe H.264 encoder is as follows:
    N=1 : 2.17 bpp : 24I
    N=2 : 0.66 bpp : 12I + 12P
    N=3 : 0.59 bpp : 8I + 8B + 8P
Note how the data rate drops 70% (from 2.17 to 0.66 bpp) even though 50% of the I-frames still exist when N=2. By comparison, here is the video data rate when exporting with QuickTime H.264:
    N=1 : 0.89 bpp : 24I
    N=2 : 0.70 bpp : 12I + 12P
    N=3 : 0.64 bpp : 8I + 16P
The following chart shows data rates at key frame distances from 1-48 frames for Adobe H.264, QuickTime H.264 (via Adobe), QuickTime Pro, and Expression Encoder 4 Pro. Data rates are consistent among all encoders at GOP lengths greater than one. There is an anomoly with the Adobe H.264 codec compressing all-intra files.
The observed behavior occurs in all profiles, which were tested at Levels 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, and 5.1:
Image quality is better in the Adobe H.264 all-intraframe file, especially with respect to detail retention. The pictures below show sections of two consecutive frames magnified 400%. The file with N=2 is less accurate and contains noticeable blocking. Even the I-frames don't look as good in the files where N>1.
The test file was a seventeen second Premiere Pro sequence consisting of H.264, MPEG-2, and AE files with effects applied. Exports were rendered from the Premiere Pro timeline and from a V210 uncompressed 4:2:2 intermediate file of the sequence. The following settings were used:
    Format: H.264
    Width: 1280
    Height: 720
    Frame Rate: 24 fps
    Field Order: Progressive
    Aspect: Square Pixels (1.0)
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Profile: Baseline, Main, and High
    Levels: 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, 5.1
Render at Maximum Bit Depth: Enabled
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2-Pass
Target Bitrate: Maximized for each Profile/Level
Maximum Bitrate: Maximized for each Profile/Level
    Key Frame Distance: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 24, 48
    Use Maximum Render Quality: Enabled
    Multiplexer: MP4
    Stream Capability: Standard
    Software:
Adobe Media Encoder CS6 Creative Cloud v6.0.3.1 (64-bit)
Premiere Pro CS6 Creative Cloud v6.0.3
    Windows 7 SP1
QuickTime Pro for Windows v7.6.9 (1680.9)
MediaInfo 0.7.62 (for GOP and data rate information)

I think the short answer is yes,
a h.264 encoder does I-frame only differently. I frames are complete expressions of a picture with no temporal compression information.
P frames use _P_redictive information. IE information from prior frames.
B frames use _B_i-directional predictive frame information.
h.264 gets the majority of it's bit saving from use of B and P frames. When you do I-frame only you only get the block compression and none of the advantages of P and B frames. Thus the GOP N=1 doesn't get very good bit's per pixel.
Having said all that I do find your comment...

... very interesting. Indeed, why is the datarate 70% less when it should at best be 50% for GOP N=2. 50% less should be the same I-frame information plus 0 bytes for the B frame between them. (GOP = I,B,I). Any more than that and it is throwing away bits from the I-frame. So, this seems to be to be a ratecontrol bug.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_of_pictures
"The GOP structure is often referred by two numbers, for example, M=3, N=12. The first number tells the distance between two anchor frames (I or P): it is the GOP size. The second one tells the distance between two full images (I-frames): it is the GOP length. For the example M=3, N=12, the GOP structure is IBBPBBPBBPBBI. Instead of the M parameter the maximal count of B-frames between two consecutive anchor frames can be used."

  • AP PHY data rates

    Hello,
AP 1600 has PHY data rates up to 300 Mbps, and 2600 up to 450 Mbps.
With 1600 AP, if I have a client connected at 300 Mbps on the radio 5 GHz (MCS index 15, 40 Mhz) and another client connected at 130 Mbps on the radio 2.4 GHz at 130 Mbps (MCS index 15, 20 Mhz); how will the AP handle the traffic ?
Will the AP force one of the client to lower data rates, or will it drop some paquets ?
I'm a little bit confuse about the behavior in high density environment,
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards

    Gerald,
Wi-fi is half duplex medium and data rate does not equal throughput
Here is a good guide on the issue:
    http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=374
As wi-fi performance is determined by the client, AP and external factors such as interference, wi-fi overhead, distance, loss, etc. figure throughput somewhere @ 50 - 60% of data rate at best. On top of that, there will be tcp/ip overhead too.
It will always drop to the lowest common denominator.  So if the switchport is only 100 mbps, that is your bottleneck for traffic that goes over it.
Use some tools like iperf or jperf to do some client-server testing between laptops to see what the actual throughput is.
If you are using MacBooks, there is a great app in the Mac App Store called WiFiPerf

  • Question about voice and data plan for Europe

I am in New York and my boss is going to France for a week and a half. He told me he will not have access to the internet there. He asked me to find out if it would be possible to get a voice and data plan for the month that he will be there, and if so, could someone show me where I could look at the different plans available?
If it's not possible to do that for just a month, then could someone tell me where I could find the rates are for voice and data in France?
    Thanks

    Hi kevindrosario,
I appreciate your interest in our International Services.  France, is a GSM country and will only support a Global capable device. Unfortunately, its not clear if your boss has a Global capable device.  If so, here are the details for the voice and data rates for France.
If your boss doesn't not have a Global capable device, no worries!  We offer an Occasional Global Traveler program, in which we will loan you a Global device for up to 21 days.  I hope this information is helpful.  Please let me know if you have any any additional questions or concerns.
    Thank you,

  • DV BITRATE VS DATA RATE...

    Hi -- I've a question about DV's bitrate (25Mbps) and data rate (3.6MBps).
    (1) What is the relationship between one another?
    (2) Does FCP decompress DV's 25Mbps bitrate and recompress when printing to tape?
    (3) What of outputting to MPEG2 DVD? Say at 7Mbps bitrate -- does FCP recompress when outputting to this destination type?
    (4) What is the BEST way to capture, edit and output (to DVD) for FCP5.1.2 where visual quality is concerned?
    Thanks

    1. they are the exact same ... DV has a fixed data rate of 25 megabits per second. 1 byte = 8 bits, so the 25Mbps may sometimes be approximated to 3.6MBps
    2. yes and no. FCP's DV codec (compressor, decompressor) is used to display the footage to your canvas, however, unless you otherwise affect the footage then it is only the raw original data that is printed to tape.
    3. yes ... if the ouptput is a different codec than that of the original then it must be transcoded, hence decompressed using the original codec and recompressed using the target codec
    4. capture using the highest possible quality your system can handle (preferably uncompressed), edit natively in that same codec, output for dvd using the highest bitrate MPEG2 your compression/ dvd burning sofware can handle

  • Wrapping numbers and dates in columns

Is there a way to have formatted numbers and dates wrap in cells when the columns are too small to display all the data?

    runswithtwohorses wrote:
Is there a way to have formatted numbers and dates wrap in cells when the columns are too small to display all the data?
    r,
Yes, but I have only had success if I add an auxiliary cell/column for the transition to text.
For instance if I have the Date/Time January 1, 2010 10:10 AM in Cell A1 and format it as Friday, January 1, 2010 10:10 AM it doesn't wrap, but, let's say, it has the proper format. If in Cell B1 I write: =A1 & "" , and I set the wrap property in the Format Inspector for that cell, I will get the proper format and the wrap in B1.
So, the concatenation operator and the null string convert the date object to text. I have found no way to do this in a single cell, even with a more complex formula.

  • DocFlex/Javadoc 1.5.6, a multi-format doclet development tool and more

DocFlex/Javadoc is both a multi-format Javadoc Doclet and a rapid doclet development tool, which allows easy creation of professional quality Java API documentation generated by Javadoc in various output formats.

    KEY FEATURES
    Template-driven doclet architecture
    - Actual doclets are created in the form of special templates interpreted by the DocFlex Doclet, which is the template interpreter / output generator wrapped in the form of a Javadoc Doclet.
    - The high quality graphic Template Designer allows you to visually design most of things, whose development was possible so far only by direct Java coding.
    - The templates are designed independently on a particular output format. All formatting is specified in some universal way using properties of template components. During the generation, it is rendered with the suitable features available in the selected output format.
    - The elaborated support of template parameters (including multivalued list parameters). The parameters are defined and accessed within templates to adjust dynamic properties of template components. Most of options previously used to control an ordinary doclet now simply become template parameters!
    - The possibility to call templates from one another. This feature (along with the template parameters) makes possible re-using the same templates for different tasks as well as organizing template libraries.
    Data processing
    - The entire Doclet API is represented in the form of a virtual XML document (called Doclet DSM), on which the designing and processing of all templates is based.
    - Sophisticated capabilities for data querying and sorting based on an extension of XPath.
    - Full support of new Java 5.0 language features: Generic Types, Enums, Annotations.
    - Simultaneous support of Java 1.4 and Java 5.
    Creating hyperlinks
    - Generation of an extensive network of hyperlinks interconnecting the whole documentation.
    - The hyperlinks can be generated in all output formats that support them (this currently includes HTML and RTF).
    - The universal way of defining documentation cross-links based on the link/target keys specified in templates.
    - In RTF, the cross-links can be generated in the form of page number references, which effectively makes them usable even in the printed documentation.
    - In HTML, the possibility of loading several frame windows from a single hyperlink at once.
Universal support of various formatting techniques
    - text formatting: fonts, colors, borders
    - paragraph formatting: margins, pagination control, borders, colors
    - border formatting: styles (solid, double, dashed, dotted), thickness, colors
    - tables: arbitrary cell layouts, borders, nested tables
    - lists: bulleted, numbered, delimited
    - document fields (RTF): page number, number of pages, TOC, etc.
    - page formatting: size, orientation, margins, headers/footers
    - formatting styles
    - rendering of embedded HTML, which means interpreting in non-HTML output formats (such as RTF) the HTML tags embedded in text data (e.g. documentation comments). Almost all HTML tags practically usable in doc-comments are supported.
    Inserting images
    - statically specified in templates
    - dynamically, obtained by <img> tags found in Java comments
    - supported image formats: GIF, PNG, JPG, WMF, EMF, BMP
    Output formats
    - HTML (both framed multi-file and single-file output)
    - RTF (version 1.6 - supported since Word 2000).
    - TXT (plain text), which may be particularly useful for various utilizations of the Java code information provided by the Doclet API generate XML files by it, or SQL files to import into a database).
    Standard Template Set
    - The ready-to-use Standard Template Set included in all editions of DocFlex/Javadoc allows you to immediately generate:
(*) The framed HTML Java API documentation similar to that generated by the standard Javadoc.
(*) The same documentation packed in a single HTML file.
(*) The unmatched quality RTF JavaDoc.
    - Special features supported by standard templates:
(*) Excluding classes/methods/fields by custom tags and annotations.
(*) Selective omitting of package qualifiers.
(*) Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of Standard Doclet).
    - By modifying the standard templates, you can quickly customize the generated documentation according to your needs.
    Doclet GUI
    - Besides command line options, DocFlex Doclet supports an alternative user-friendly way to control the template-based doclets interactively -- the high quality Doclet GUI.
    - The Doclet GUI starts with the Generator Dialog, where you can specify all general settings (such as the main template, the output format and the output directory), start the generation, track its progress and stop at any moment you need.
    - The grid-tree-based Parameter Inspector invoked from the Generator Dialog for a selected template allows you to view the descriptions of all template parameters controlling the doclet and set their values according to the parameter data types.
    - The generator options specific for the selected output format can be set in the corresponding Format Option Inspector (also invoked from the Generator Dialog).
    - Once the generation is finished (or cancelled), you can start it again with different settings or a new main template without restarting the whole Javadoc.
    Integrations
    - With any system that runs Javadoc (in particular, see below)
    - Apache Ant
    - Apache Maven 2
    - Eclipse
For lots more information, see DocFlex/Javadoc homepage: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/]

    DocFlex/Javadoc comes in two editions:
    (1) The full edition called "DocFlex/Javadoc" as it is. This is commercial software, which includes all the implemented functionality.
    (2) The reduced freeware edition called "DocFlex/Doclet". It includes only the output generator and can be used as an interpretor of any custom templates. It also includes the standard template set, which allows you to instantly use it as an HTML doclet (similar to the standard one, however with some special features) plus an excellent quality RTF doclet.
Both editions are available for downloads on the page: [http://www.filigris.com/downloads/]
    THIS VERSION
    New features:
    - The template interpretor works 15-20% faster
    - Improvement of RTF output
    - Multi-valued (list) template parameters
    - Custom elements
    - Standard Templates: Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of standard doclet)

    WHAT IS DOCFLEX?
DocFlex is an innovative technology for development of high quality template-driven documentation/report generators by any kind of data obtained from various software applications via the Java APIs they provide.
    MAIN CONCEPTS
The whole DocFlex technology is based on four generalizations:
    (1) The mapping of an entire Java API onto a virtual XML-like representation made of some elements and attributes so as to process any such a representation in a universal way using techniques borrowed from the field of XML, like XPath (or more precisely, a conceptual analogue of XPath with some extensions not present in it).
    (2) The abstract formatting concept based on four layouts (flow of text, flow of paragraphs or paragraph-like objects, tables and lists), which can be rendered in most modern document formats (e.g. HTML, RTF, XSL-FO etc.)
    (3) The automatic generation of hyperlinks (or their page number reference equivalents) by matching the sets of keys produced from certain natural properties of the things (entities) being documented and hyper-linked.
    (4) The representation of the object controlling structure of the output generator (made on the first three principles) in the form of a plain-text template with a possibility to create and edit such templates using a graphic Template Designer, which visualizes the controlling objects (now becoming template components) in a form resembling the output they will produce.
    OTHER APPLICATIONS
In fact, DocFlex/Javadoc is not the only application of DocFlex technology. The following is a summary of other DocFlex software:
    DocFlex/XML
The SDK and runtime environment for rapid development and execution of template-driven automatic documentation/report generators by any data obtained from XML files.
This is currently the most complex and advanced application of DocFlex technology. Actually, this tool can be considered a powerful alternative to XSLT. At least, it is definitely able to do what XSLT apparently not (for example, see “XSDDoc” below). We will publish a more detailed comparison “DocFlex/XML versus XSLT” with the next DocFlex/XML release, which is coming very soon.
    DocFlex/XML home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/]
    DocFlex/XML | XSDDoc
A template set for DocFlex/XML that implements a high quality W3C XML Schema documentation generator in HTML and RTF output formats.
For more details, please see: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/xsddoc/]
    DocFlex/XML | WSDLDoc
A similar template set for DocFlex/XML that will implement a high-end WSDL documentation generator.
This product is not released yet.
    DocFlex/Together
A template-driven documentation generator for [Borland Together|http://www.borland.com/us/products/together/] (which is a UML modeling tool).
This is the earliest application of DocFlex technology and probably the most beautiful one. It works only with Together Architect 1.x, which is now obsolete. Unfortunately, since Together 2005, Borland eliminated any open APIs (for unknown reasons). Because of this, further development of DocFlex/Together was impossible.
    DocFlex/Together home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/]
See also examples of the UML documentation generated with it: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/examples/]
The future DocFlex/UML is going to generate something like this as well.
    DocFlex/UML
A template-driven UML documentation generator based on [Eclipse EMF|http://www.eclipse.org/emf/]. This tool is in early development stage yet. In a sense, it will continue DocFlex/Together with the focus on integration with other UML tools that use Eclipse EMF.

Now, DocFlex/Javadoc v1.4 has been released specifically dedicated to Linux (Mac OS X) support:
(*) Some early bugs have been fixed, which prevented it working properly under Linux.
(*) A special RTF option was introduced to generate OpenOffice.org friendly RTF (see below)
(*) Improved support for external document viewers.
(*) Now, DocFlex/Javadoc software includes the shell script files prepared to quickly install and launch it under Linux
    New RTF option
A new RTF output option "Tune output for MS Word has been introduced. This option, actually, allows switching off that very tuning (which until now was the default mode) to produce an RTF friendly to open with other non MS Word applications, e.g. OpenOffice.org Writer under Linux.

  • What are the best data and bit rate setting for uploading from final cut express to Youtube?

Can anyone suggest the best data rate and bit rate presets for uploading footage from final cut express 4 to Youtube? What settings will provide the best resolution, quality, and match the current youtube requirements?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Susan Kayne

It depends on whether you are using aspect ratios of 4:3 or 16:9.
Below is some simple guidance that will provide good quality with reasonably small file sizes.
The first part is for 4:3 video:-
    1. File>Export Using QT Conversion.
    2. The "Format" window should say, "QT Movie".
    3. In "Use" select "LAN/Intranet" from the dropdown menu.
    4. Click "Save" and when it has finished encoding, upload it to YouTube.
If you are making 16:9 video (Standard or High Definition) do steps 1 to 3 above.
Then when you have selected "LAN/Intranet" press the "Options" button and in the new
window that opens press the  "Size"  button and change the  "640x480" to  "853x480"
To do this you will have to click on the  640x480 and a dropdown menu appears.
Select "Custom" from  the bottom of the menu and in the window that opens
    you will see 2 boxes.
Put  853  in the first box and  480  in the second.
    Click OK.
    Then Save it.

  • Multiclip Dropped Frames/Data Rates from from FW 800, 7200rpm Drive

I am using an external Lacie 7200 rpm "Little Big Disk" .. Editing DV Multiclips in Final Cut (3.6 MB/sec data rate per clip... 7 clips/streams) But it won't play back all at once, anything over 15 MB/sec data transfer rate (as I watch Activity Monitor) it starts choking and dropping frames til it just freezes. Lacie claims that this drive handles a steady 80MB/sec transfer rate... All I need to do all these streams is 26 MB/sec (That's the speed it does at work from an XSAN and no problem playing back 7 streams of DV) Is the bog down in my system the FW800, my RAM, processor, or the Cache of the drive? (16MB)

Do you have any other FireWire devices (incl. cameras) plugged into other ports on the computer or on the drive itself? There's only one FireWire bus on a G5, and it's shared between the FW800 port and the FW400 port on the back in addition to the FW400 port on the front.
If you have other devices plugged in, they can cause the entire bus to slow down to the speed of the slowest connected device.

  • Lookout OPC Client – Asynchronous I/O and Update Rate serious problems (Sequence of data)

I am using the Lookout OPCClient driver to connect to AB PLCs (EtherNet/IP protocol) and power measurement equipment (Modbus TCP protocol). The OPC server is the NI OPC Servers. The data that are read out from PLCs and PMs are energy meter readings, energy counters, power, voltage, current, frequency, power factor and el. energy quality measurements (THD). That energy meter readings are being stored in SQL database.
I am experiencing a serious problem regarding the accuracy of the meter readings. Several times per day, randomly, meter readings are losing the time sequence. For example, sequence is: 167, after few seconds 165, 166.  In other words, present value followed by two previous old values. That generates a serious problem in our application that is expecting a naturally rising sequence of counter values.
Analyzing further, I isolated the problem to the connection between Lookout OPCClient and OPC Server. I made a simple application in Lookout 6.7 (opcproc.lkp, attached) with OPCClient parameters: NIOPCServers, OPC2, Asynchronus I/O, Update rate: 10000, Deadband: 0.0, that is reading just one tag from NI OPC Servers demo application (simdemo.opf).
By using OPC diagnostic tool from NI OPC Servers I record the sequence of OPC requests and responses.  I found out that OPCClient sends every 2.5 sec “IOPCAsyncIO2::Refresh2()” call that is request for refreshing of all items in one OPC group. Few milliseconds later OPC Sever responds with callback function “IOPCDataCallback:: OnDataChange()(Device Refresh)” that actually refresh the data.
This periodic sequence is intrinsic to the OPCClient and cannot be disabled or changed (by my knowledge).  This sequence is periodically interrupted by “IOPCDataCallback:: OnDataChange()” caused by update rate parameter of OPCClient (client is subscribed to server for periodic update of changed items).
In the case of demo application on every 4 refresh callbacks caused by refresh requests (2.5 sec) there is one update subscription callback determined by Update rate (10 sec).
    QUESTION 1:
What is the purpose of update sequence and update rate when we have every 2.5 sec fresh values?
    PROBLEM
The problem arises when we have a large number of items in OPC group. In that case the OPC Server starts to queue refresh requests because they cannot be fulfilled in 2.5 sec time because of large number of I/O points that must be scanned. At the same time update subscription callbacks are running at the period determined by Update rate. I observed in my production system that regular update callbacks has higher priority than refresh callbacks from the queue. That causes the loosing of timed sequence of data. After the update callback with fresh data, sometimes follow one or two refresh callbacks from queue with old (invalid) data. By adjusting Update rate parameter (1 hour, 2hours …) I can postpone the collision of data refreshes but I cannot eliminate it. Furthermore, the 2.5 sec automatic refresh are large burden for systems with many I/O points.
    QUESTION 2:
Is there a way to disable automatic refresh request every 2.5 sec and just use update requests determined by Update rate?
    QUESTION 3:
Is there a way (or parameter) to change the period of automatic refresh (2.5 sec)?
This problem is discovered for Lookout 6.5, 6.6 and 6.7 so I could say it is intrinsic to OPCClient. If I use synchronous I/O requests there is not an automatic refresh, but that is not an option for large systems.

The physical connection from LV to the switch is (I believe) copper crossover to fiber converter into a switch.  Then, fiber from the switch to the end device (relay).  The relay has all of the typical modbus registries and has been verified by inducing signals in to the system and measured/polled in LabVIEW and observed Variable Monitor.  I am working with LV 8.2 and 8.5.
An OPC server would only add an additional translation of addressing within the configuration.  The only real draw back would be the network overhead required to do this processing and not being representative of the end design configuration.
I will reiterated my question in another way:
I must answer the question to management that relates to data collection, test results and analysis; how often are you polling the client in relation to the outcomes measured?  At this time I can not point at any configuration in the set up and execution that directs the data framing rate.  I only measure the traffic and work with results.  This needs to be clearly identified based on the relay modbus/tcp design capability of supporting an fixed number of client requests per second.
For testing purposes, I would like to be able to stress the system to failure and have prove capabilities with measured data.  The present problem is that I have no basis to establish varying polling rates that effect the measured data transmission.
This raises another question.  What handles the Variable Monitor data requests and how is this rate determined?
Thanks for your interest in my efforts.

  • MyRIO memory, data transfer and clock rate

    Hi
I am trying to do some computations on a previously obtained file sampled at 100Msps using myRIO module. I have some doubts regarding the same. There are mainly two doubts, one regarding data transfer and other regarding clock rate.
    1. Currently, I access my file (size 50 MB) from my development computer hard drive in FPGA through DMA FIFO, taking one block consisting of around 5500 points at a time. I have been running the VI in emulation mode for the time being. I was able to transfer through DMA from host, but it is very slow (i can see each point being transferred!!). The timer connected in while loop in FPGA says 2 ticks for each loop, but the data transfer is taking long. There could be two reasons for this, one being that the serial cable used is the problem, the DMA happens fast but the update as seen to the user is slower, the second being that the timer is not recording the time for data trasfer. Which one could be the reason?
If I put the file in the myRIO module, I will have to compile it each and every time, but does it behave the same way as I did before with dev PC(will the DMA transfer be faster)? And here too, do I need to put the file in the USB stick? My MAX says that there is 293 MB of primary disk free space in the module. I am not able to see this space at all. If I put my file in this memory, will the data transfer be faster? That is, can I use any static memory in the board (>50MB) to put my file? or can I use any data transfer method other than FIFO? This forum (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Academic-Hardware-Products-ELVIS/myRIO-Compile-Error/td-p/2709721/highlight/... discusses this issue, but I would like to know the speed of the transfer too.
    2. The data in the file is sampled at 100Msps. The filter blocks inside FPGA ask to specify the FPGA clock rate and sampling rate, i created a 200MHz derived clock and mentioned the same, gave sampling rate as 100Msps, but the filter is giving zero results. Do these blocks work with derived clock rates? or is it the property of SCTL alone?
    Thanks a lot
    Arya

    Hi Sam
Thanks for the quick reply. I will keep the terminology in mind. I am trying analyse the data file (each of the 5500 samples corresponds to a single frame of data)  by doing some intensive signal processing algorithms on each frame, then average the results and disply it.
I tried putting the file on the RT target, both using a USB stick and using the RT target internal memory. I thought I will write back the delay time for each loop after the transfer has occured completely, to a text tile in the system. I ran the code my making an exe for both the USB stick and RT target internal memory methods; and compiling using the FPGA emulater in the dev PC VI. (A screenshot of the last method is attached, the same is used for both the other methods with minor modifications. )To my surprise, all three of them gave 13 ms as the delay. I certainly expect the transfer from RT internal memory faster than USB and the one from the dev PC to be the slowest. I will work more on the same and try to figure out why this is happening so.
When I transferred the data file (50MB) into the RT flash memory, the MAX shows 50MB decrease in the free physical memory but only 20MB decrease in the primary disk free space. Why is this so? Could you please tell me the differences between them? I did not get any useful online resources when I searched.
Meanwhile, the other doubt still persists, is it possible to run filter blocks with the derived clock rates? Can we specify clock rates like 200MHz and sampling rates like 100Msps in the filter configuration window? I tried, but obtained zero results.
    Thanks and regards
    Arya

please help i started my project with  video format 720HD, resolution 12x720, rate 25p.  at last when i finish and burn to dvd the edges are cut off and my logo cut off the screeen aswell any one help please i am really in trouble. thanks

Sorry, but I don't know anything about that app.
I did go to their Web site and I see they have a support link. Perhaps you can get help there or in their forum.
If you are OK with a DVD with a basic menu, you could try the Share>DVD option in FCP.
    Good luck.
