Multi GPU use with Nvidia and Radeon Card combined possible?

I know it's unlikely but does CC support the combined use of Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, mercury engine, cuda / opencl / multi GPU feature wise?
There's a lack of performance currently; especially when color grading. So we're gonna have to upgrade our macpro.

What's a good / better setup especially for color grading in Premiere (might switch over to SpeedGrade CC soon)?
We're gonna replace the Radeon HD 5870. Should we buy replace it with a NVIDIA Quadro K 5000 or a Radeon 7950 Mac Edition?

it didnt' work.
My audio is coming out through the HDMI cable which is from the NVIDIA card. I tried other solutions, including updating the NVIDIA drivers for similar problems. Someone suggested going though SPDIF, but VLC just has an option to use SPDIF when availble, you can't exclusively set it.

Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up.

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you create a new iCloud account with a different ID your existing ID isn't effected by this. It will continue to work as it does now, you will just have an additional Apple ID. If you have an earthlink email address you can continue to use it as a separate account, and it can continue to be your default account if you set it to be (in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account). If I'm misunderstanding your question, please explain further.

Recommendations for Semi-Pro or Pro HD Video camera to use with fcpX and Mac with auto settings and ability to override, need to add external mic or 2. Am one person crew so needs to be easy to use.

And check out the Panasonic AG-AC90. Very good specs for a prosumer unit. Everything in the semi-pro area will involve trade offs for sure. Key thing is to study up enough to know what your needs are vs what trade off are involved in the various models. The ag-ac90 trade off (one of them) is diffraction limited sharpness.

RE: GPU disabled with NVidia 8800GTX, 2 weeks and no fix yet!

My hard drive crashed while back...had to reinstall everything. Now, for some reason Photoshop refuses to enable OpenGL access even though before I was able to use Photoshop with my video cards. I have reinstalled the app multiple times, reset prefs many times, installed various versions of my video card drivers (including the latest from NVidia) but no luck. I checked Adobe and NVidia site and my cards are listed as supported. I talked to Alienware and they couldn't figure out the problem, I talked to NVidia and they said my cards are ok and it's Photoshop's end. I posted the problem originally and someone from Adobe said it is NVidia's problem.
Someone please help! I keep getting passed from one company to another and no one seems to know what is going on. As I said before, Photoshop CS5 was working fine with my video cards before (with GPU enabled). After I had to swap my HD's, Photoshop refuses to enable GPU access.

Ok folks...I solved the problem. I basically reinstalled from scratch: wipe the drive, reinstall OS and driver. Now, at first I installed the OEM driver for my video cards and that again didn't work. So, I again installed the latest driver right on top of the old (yup, didn't bother to uninstall the older one) and that still didn't work. Then I started to mess around with PhysX and GPU setting in the driver controls. Under PhysX menu it has an option of allowing me to force one of my video cards to run PhyX or allow the driver to decide what to use. I had fiddled around with this option before, but for some reason didn't seem to work before. Anyhow, I decided to pick one of my cards from the drop down menu (I think the first one...am not am my machine now). Surprise...Photoshop enables the GPU options. I couldn't believe it.
Still a mystery to me: why did my OEM driver work on my old HD but not on my new one? Why couldn't the old drive figure out how to use the GPU so Photoshop is able to see it, even before my HD crash all worked fine? I don't know why the NVidia tech person couldn't point me to the menu that controls PhyX.
Anyhow, suffice to say I got it working and installed all my apps and will be using Acronis to back up my system onto another drive: a clone of my HD.
Thanks for suggestions folks. I wish it hadn't taked so long to solve it.....but at the end of the day the solution was: Reinstall everything again.

CS5 cannot support nVidia and ATI cards in same machine?

Until recently, I was operating fine with a Radeon HD 5750 on dual monitors. I wanted to add and utilize a third monitor (had some trouble with the DisplayPort output), so I just stuck in an off the shelf nVidia 8400 card.
With the latest drivers on both, and both using OpenGL 3.2, CS5 seems to just freak out. (The issue seems to be OpenGL centric.)
Photoshop x86 just crashes while loading.
Photoshop x64 will load, but it immediately reports that my cards do not support OpenGL acceleration and disables it. It otherwise seems to work fine.
After Effects will sort of run, but some strange things crash while it's loading (like gpu_sniffer.exe). It crashes all the time during RAM previews, now, and the option to accelerate the GUI (or previews) with OpenGL is disabled. So, while it's use-able, it's slow.
Premiere Pro absolutely refuses to start. I cannot even get a splash screen.
(The other apps I do not use much.)
I've gone back to dual monitor for now on the Radeon card (problems resolved with disabling the nVidia card), but do the CS5 apps really have that much trouble with two video cards with different chipsets? Is there something I am forgetting to do? I am not asking any of the apps to utilize the third monitor, so I cannot fathom what the issue is. Again, the OpenGL version is the same on both cards...and both cards have the latest drivers (both from November).
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction or let me know what I should do to enable the nVidia card to peacefully co-exist and still be able to use OpenGL with the CS5 apps.

It's not that the apps don't support mixed cards - but that the OpenGL drivers for the cards do not work well together.
Even mixing different models of cards from the same vendor can run into problems when using OpenGL.
Some apps have made mixed cards work - by using one GPU and completely ignoring the rest.
We've talked to the GPU vendors to see about improving the situation, but, well, they're competitors.

I'm running 64 bit with KDEmod. Scrolling is fine when I remove flash completely but on Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit) the abnove sites scroll fine on a different machine (with intel graphics). I read somewhere by modifying xorg with "AccelMethod" "EXA" to "XXA" scrolling becomes very smoth onm ATI and Intel. Here is my xorg.conf:

is there something I can change to improve scrolling in firefox? I've tried to turnoff desktop effects and scrolling is the same annd also running firefox from a fresh profile. Sorry, I don't use KDE, but it may be related to how do you start KDE: from xinit or via KDM or sth.

No, I don't have the nouveau driver installed. I have to check if I have the nv driver installed but I didn't uninstall the nvidia driver. I'm starting KDE via xinit.

DVI KVM switch to use with iMac and Cinema Display

I currently have a 20" iMac that I use with a 20" Cinema Display. I'd like to share the Cinema display between the iMac and a Dell computer. Assuming this can be done, are there any recommendations for a DVI-KVM switch? Most important is no loss in video quality when the Cinema display is used with the iMac. The Dell is seldom used and even a straight DVI switch without mouse and keyboard sharing would be OK.

Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb

I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.

Multi Camera Editing with Matrox CODEC ( VS4 ) Card

Hello All.
Setup
I am recording 4 inputs from the Matrox VS4 via Wirecast 4.2 and also tried 5.0
- 1080i @ 100Mbps
- All the video footage play perfectly with no problems what so ever
- I Have installed the Matrox VFW Software Codecs of a system which DOES NOT have the VS4 card
- I can edit 1 video with NO PROBLEM.
Problem
- Using Adobe Premiere 7.1 CC with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
- Using Adobe Premiere CS 6.0 with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
- I have tried with 2 cameras up to 4 cameras and I get the same problem.#
Other Test
- I have tried 12 x videos which are MP4 in multi camera editing with NO PROBLEMS!!!
- I am using 4 x 128GB SSD in RAID 0 ( 1450 MB/s) - Through put is not an issue.
- I have also reduced the MB/s on the ISO capture of 50MB/s
This is the CODEC you need to have installed on your computer in order to edit the view/edit the videos recorded by the Matrox VS4:

Mac Photoshop CS6 crash with NVIDIA GTX470 graphics card

Hi there,
I don't know whether this is an Adobe bug or NVIDIA driver problem.
I've recently upgraded my Mac Pro's graphics card from an Asus 256MB 8400GS to a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470. Everything seems to work fine in CS6 suite apart from a weird anomaly where, dragging the 'Depth of Field' slider on a Photoshop 3D layer, Photoshop crashes. All of the other 3D controls appear to work fine, just the 'Depth of Field' causes the crash.
I've tried disabling 'Open CL' and using the lowest settings, but I still get the crash. When I reinstalled the less powerful Asus card, I didn't get a crash and could use the slider fine. Would this be an NVIDIA driver issue, or Adobe bug with NVIDIA GTX cards?

Thanks for both replies. I've sent an email to EVGA (who make the card) and I'll see what they say. Seeing as PS worked with my previous card, I guess you're right about it being a driver issue.
