Multi-label desktops not starting (Solaris 10u9)

I'm attempting to create a multi-label trusted JDS desktop setup, where each workspace is tied to a specific label, which is in turn associated with a specific zone. I'm starting out simple and just creating one label and one non-global zone. I'm able to have the zone autoboot, use "smc" to associate the zone with the label, and set a workspace to that particular label. However, the desktop does not show up in that workspace. All I get is a background with the color that I've assigned to that particular label.
I can start nautilus manually from within the zone after setting DISPLAY to ":0.0", and the desktop will show up in the workspace. However the desktop running in the global zone seems to use the same configuration files as the non-global zone (i.e. if I change the background in one workspace, the other changes as well). I'm also unable to use "gnome-panel" to run any apps in the non-global zone from the Launch menu.
I'm using Solaris 10u9. Seems like there is something rudimentary and simple that I'm missing. I've been at this for way too long and it's driving me nuts. Thanks for the help!

Answers to your questions:
What zonename and label did you use for your non-global zone?test
Can you cat'n'paste your /etc/security/tsol/tnzonecfg ?global:ADMIN_LOW:1:111/tcp;111/udp;515/tcp;631/tcp;2049/tcp;6000-6003/tcp:6000-6003/tcp
test:0x000a-08-:1::
Do you get the question about which level to use when you login? Yes. I'm logging in as root, which is at the ADMIN_HIGH level.
What rights does the user you are logging in with have in /etc/user_attr ?root::::auths=solaris.*,solaris.grant;profiles=Web Console Management,All;lock_after_retries=no;min_label=admin_low;clearance=admin_high
Lastly, did you edit /etc/security/tsol/label_encodings and verified that the zones are up and running properly?Yes, I've modified the label_encodings file as follows:

  • CTI toolkit Agent desktop not starting

    Hi
I have recently installed a CTI toolkit agent desktop in my PC but it is not starting and is giving error
"Cisco Desktop client has stpped working"
This is the first time i installed this application in my computer running windows7 64 bit.
the version of cti toolkit is 8.0.1
what should i look for ??

Two things come to mind.  First make sure you have the latest version, 8.0.1 doesn't sound like the latest one.  Next, make sure you install it as administrator.

  • How to fix -In Windows 8.1, Firefox seems to revert to desktop not Start page, when it is closed.

Windows 8 seems to be running on two systems - the desktop (which is just like windows 7), and the start page. Is there a way to integrate Firefox into the start page system? It does open it, but closes out the the desktop. (We are longtime Firefox users, and don't want to use IE, so will just work around it, but it just seems a little disjointed.)

I don't know whether this is a Firefox-specific problem or a problem with "traditional" Windows apps in general. Do other programs you start from the desktop close and display the Start page the way you prefer?

  • Hp p6000 desktop not starting power supply...?

I have a solid green light on the power supply but the fan does not come on.  (nothing but the green light comes on) The start up button flickers briefly when pressed but only after being unplugged and only once until it is unplugged again. I  have gone though the hp trouble shooting page.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you did not define the model number (just a reference to the HP p6000 series) I had to guess it was the stock 300W used in several of the models.
It the green light is 'on' with applied voltage, but goes out when the computers power switch is depressed, that usually means the power supply has failed. Open the case, and repeat the sequence, noting the PSU light, motherboard LED, and watch the CPU fan. Now, press the computer power switch. Did the CPU fan turn briefly? If the CPU fan quit, and the motherboard LED is now off, I again would suspect the PSU.

  • Remote Desktop Management service not starting. service-specific error: %%2284126209 - Event ID: 7024

    Hi Forum members,
We have a client that has intermittent issues with RDS on a 2012 R2 server.
As an overview of the environment, the client has a single VMWare host support 2 x Windows 2012 R2 VMs one is the File/Print/Email server and the 2nd is the RDS server used to allow the client to run MYOB Enterprise. Both servers have the AD DS role and
    DNS roles amongst others.
The 1st issue is that the RD Connection Broker shows the error: "The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. and then "1. Cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers".
The above issue seems to be caused by the RDMS service not starting. When you attempt to start it, the service stops and the error in the title is logged in the "System" event log. Full transcript below:

I have been attempting to resolve these errors for some time, without success. I have read the many KBs and forum entries related to the above and applied a number of the suggested fixes, including the one which suggests to add the NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES
to the "Logon as a Service" in the "User Rights Assignment" of the "Default Domain Policy" which is linked to the domain level, that both servers are objects of.
My question to the forum is, can anyone come up with a solution to resolve the above issues and all the RDMS service to start which will then hopefully resolve the broker error?
    Regards,
    David West.

    Hi David,
If virtual machines on the server are Windows Server 2012, then it is not supported to install Remote Desktop Connection Broker on a Domain Controller.
    More information for you:
Remote Desktop Services role cannot co-exist with AD DS role on Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799605/de
Guidelines for installing the Remote Desktop Session Host role service on a computer running Windows Server 2012 without the Remote Desktop Connection Broker role service
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2833839
If the VMs are Windows Server 2012 R2, I suggest you install RDS on a separate machine to see if the issue persists.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

    Any idea?
I have a basic Solaris 10 setup, with Entire Collection selected.
My graphic card is not working so I had to install in text mode and access X remotely.

I believe this is a fault in the crypto file that is mentioned in the Yahoo X86 posting, namely pkcs11_kernel.so. I have a possible workaround for this. Try looking at:
    http://www.webmin.com
This is a free Web-based management tool that has most but not all of the functionality of the SMC. I tried downloading and installing the Solaris package from their download page, but this didn't work. What I eventually did was remove the package and download and install the generic Unix version, which was webmin-1.160.tar.gz as of when I downloaded it. The only gotchas to watch for are to run the setup.sh script and select Sun Solaris as the O/S, then select Solaris 9 as the version (they don't technically support 10 yet). I have been able to add users and groups and manage the disk without problems.

  • One note starts on its own when I use Remote Desktop connection

Whenever I use RDC to connect to my home server, One note start and pops up totally on its own on my local computer.
Can anyone explain why, and more importantly how I can stop this behaviour?

After hours of reading through forums and posts similar to this one, and knowing the proposed work-arounds were not going to be accepted by my client that was having the issue, I came to the conclusion that it had to be a print driver or the software that
gets installed along with the print driver on the server that was causing my issue.
I started searching and came across some Epson software that was installed on the remote desktop server when I was trying to get a scale house ticket printer to work as a network printer. The printer was not installed on the server but the software remained
in the add and remove programs list.
I removed the three Epson entries in the add and remove programs list and the problem stopped.
I don't know if this was mentioned above but the behavior I observed was that the print job was going to multiple printers, not just OneNote. I my case if I removed the OneNote pritner I would then get prompted by the Microsoft XPS Document Writer for a
    file location to save to.
I could open the print queue for each of the printers that were getting redirected on my local machine, I would then log in to the remote desktop server that I was having the issue on. I could see the "remote desktop redirected printer doc" get
sent to each printer. If the printer was online it would flash for only a moment and the printer would ignore the job as if nothing had been sent to it. If the printer was offline the job would stay in the queue.
I think this was mentioned above so I will reiterate, don't approach the issue like it is a problem just with OneNote or with a particular driver from a particular manufacturer. We know at the very least that the problem can be caused by Samsung driver/printer
software and by Epson driver/printer software so it stands to reason that there can be other drivers/printer software packages that can cause the same problems.
    I hope this helps!

  • VDI - RemoteApp does not start in "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" environment

    Hello dear community,
I would like to familiarize myself to the subject of desktop virtualization and have built up a test environment for this purpose. Most went smoothly, but now I'm trying for days to figure out, why the deployed RemoteApp programs in my test environment not
start. Unfortunately posts here and in other blogs were not helpful. I hope you can point me to the right direction. :)
    My environment
    Server 1
Windows Server 2012 R2 Std with the roles
        AD DS,
        DNS,
        DHCP
    Server 2
Windows Server 2012 R2 Std with the roles
        Hyper-V,
Remote Desktop Services (Connection Broker, Virtualization Host, Web Access),
        IIS
    VMs
    Windows 8.1
    RD Client 1
Laptop with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 28, RemoteApp and Desktop Connections
    RD client 2
iPad with Microsoft Remote Desktop App
    Setting up the environment
The installation of the environment I made as mentioned in the following blog post. http://blog.itvce.com/?p=1569 But with only two physical servers.
    What does work?
Prepared with SysPrep and "cloned" Windows 8.1 VMs created in the collections of virtual desktops are accessible via WebAccess (RDWeb) using IE, FF, Windows Start menu and also from the iPad as a complete desktop for authorized users/groups. The VMs
wake up in Hyper- V from the saved state and roll back to it after the user logs off. So far so good.
    What does not work?
Now to what does not work. One collection of virtual desktops I have reserved for the publication of RemoteApp programs. So this new collection - like the above - was created. The VMs were built and successfully registered in AD. Then I used "publish RemoteApp
Programs" wizard in the collection. The available programs were successfully read from the VM. WordPad, Calc and Paint I used for the test. The programs/apps will then appear in RDWeb.
In RDWeb I now click on the Calculator, the warning described in many blogs appears that resources are passed through and then that the certificate could not be verified. Although I have already added the certificate to the trusted root CA in the user and the
computer area, I acknowledge that I would like to connect despite the certificate error with "Yes".
After about 20 seconds the "Connect to ..." window disappears and that it was. In Hyper-V Manager the corresponding VM does not move even if it's running. If the VM was not running and in saved state, it is at least started. But the Calculator will
    still not start.
Can anyone give me a proper hint what to do, which Bing, Google and Technet did not have?
    Thank you in advance!
    Kay
PS: Since I am from Germany, I have asked the question first in the German forum. Unfortunately, without success.

    Hi Kay,
    Thank you for contacting Microsoft.
From your description, I learnt that the issue you are experiencing is that you want to eliminate the certificate warning when launching the Remote App applications. Please let me know if I misunderstand your purpose.
Firstly, please let me know what certificate you are using. Then please export and import the certificate on the RDSH server. We need to manage the certificates. Please refer to
    the steps below.
    1. Open the Collections which you want to manage, click
    Edit Deployment Properties.
    2. On the Certificates page, select
    Select existing certificate.
    3. When the
Select Existing Certificate page appear, please select Choose a different certificate, locate to the right exported certificate path, and type the correct password, and
select Allow the certificate to be added to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities certificate store on the destination computers.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to finish the certificate configuration, here we can use the same certificate.
If anything unclear, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,
    Sophia Sun

  • Sapinst not started for PI 7.1 on Solaris 1064bit and Oracle10

    Hello,
We are running NW 7.10 PI 7.1 installation on Sun Solaris 10 and Oracle 10.2.0.4 platform. We are using the following installation DVDs for installing PI.
    Installation Master   = 51033240_21
    Java Component = 51033242
    UC Kernel = 51033245
We are doing following to run ./sapinst
    1. log on as root
    2. set JAVA_HOME, TEMP and DISPLAY
    3. go to master DVD and run ./sapinst
The instgui is not showing any error Problematicc sentence structure ./SAPinst is just getting frozen. We used another script ./sapinstgui from the same directory and it shows us some logon screen with port 21212 in the GUI. However, when we try clicking logon it does nothing.
We've ensured that port 21212 or any other port that supposed to be used by SAPinst are not blocked on the firewall or not used by any other application. Host and DNSfiles are also okay. Based on one of the previous forum   /etc/nss*.conf files also exist in our PI host.  Not sure why the SAPinst GUI is not started.
We've also ensured that we need any new SAPinst support pach from marketplace, however current installation master dvd is the latest one release in March 09 and there are no further patches released by SAP.
Please help if anyone of you have faced this issue before.
    Harshal

I tried ./sapinst SAPINST_DIALOG_PORT=<free_port_number> as well as the default port number. Both of them fails.
normally  ./sapinst itself should establish all the port automatically that it uses. Which currently is not happening.
Do you want me to copy installation master dvd for Solaris on windows work station from where i'm initiating it through Xmanager session and try running ?  The installation master dvd that i'm currenty using is for Solaris platform which meanase ./sapinst is compiled for Solaris, how will it be supported by Windows ?

    Hi,
    I installed SunMC 3.6.1 on a Solaris 5.10u2 x86 machine. Only Agent

How to solve this problem? Any help is appreciated.
    Hal

    Hi Hal, :)
    # /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin/es-start -a
Could not start Agent.I've seen this before too. "svcadm enable/disable sunmcagent" didn't fix things. But for some reason if I started the agent interactively (es-start -ai) it worked... and I let the Agent load a few modules and verified it worked in the Console. Then once I quit out of interactive mode (thereby stopping the Agent) svcadm enable/disable and es-start/stop worked correctly again.
I had that happen to me 2-3 times now, and every time mucking about in interactive mode a bit fixed it. It must reset something in svcs.
