Multi-language screen of death
My G4 ibook started randomly crashing a few months ago. It would display the multi-lingual screen "you must restart your computer" and I would have to shut down and restart.
I have since changed OS to 10.4. I customed installed archiving the old OS and preserving permissions.
It still crashed randomly. I then tried the following:
1. Repair disk--using the Tiger book CD--no problems detected
2. Repair permissions--errors were corrected
3. Cache cleaning--I used Cocktail and thoroughly cleaned the cache (system/user/internet options)
My sytem is still crashing several times a day. Is this screen I'm getting represent a "kernel panic"? When I used to get those it would say "kernel panic". Should I run a hardware test? What else can I do?
Thanks!
Melinda
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Those are indeed kernel panics, and are not normal. I've written a FAQ on kernel panics, and those really should be resolved before upgrading any further. They indicate some driver that is installed is probably not on speaking terms, or there is a hardware issue. Running the hardware test may tell you of the cause of the kernel panic, but sometimes that hardware issue may also not be detectable by the test. However, if the test detects an error, ask Apple to fix it. A kernel panic is not a normal condition, and it should never recur. If it does, it indicates something needs to be diagnosed as soon as possible. Here's my FAQ:

I opened my iBook like any other day and it did not start up. I turned it on but got nothing so tried again and again. It finally started up, went to the home screen but as I started safari I got the multi language "please restart your computer screen" I restarted it and again it would not start up (battery was full). I managed to get it back up and it would be ok for about 15 minutes but then came up with the same screen. I did a hardware test which came up with everything ok. I find it only does this if I bump it or if it's plugged in. I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't bring the screen up while I'm backing up onto my external HD. does anyone know what might have caused this?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your computer is having a kernel panic. This is usually hardware based, although it could be software related. In your case, since it seems to respond to being moved, I suspect there is something loose that makes intermittent connection, most likely the Airport Extreme card. I suggest that you remove the card, clean the contacts with a soft lint-free cloth and replace it being sure that it is securely seated.
Good luck.

Screen dims and multi-language "restart" message appears
Currently, every time Safari is used, the entire screen dims and a multi-language (German, Chinese, etc.) message comes on the screen saying that I must physically power down my machine and restart. No error message is given, nor are any other options allowed, as the keyboard and mouse are rendered useless.
I have rebooted the machine several times, including powering down the cable modem, but the problem persists.
This problem has occurred in the past, but seemed to clear itself, only to reoccur starting yesterday (23 Sep 05). I can't shake the feeling that this problem is more in the OS X arena than in Safari's, but testing does not seem to bear out my feelings - all other installed applications appear to run properly and this phenomenon of screen dimming with forced power down and restart does not occur with other applications.
Any thoughts? Thanks! Bob Meyer.I suggest the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If you continue to have the problem, then reinstall the OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo) updater. -
Hardware Acceleration Causes Blue Screen of Death - Resolution?
My computer running Windows 7 64 bit started crashing with Blue Screen of Death when Viewing YouTube videos or other videos like The Daily Show. The "solution" was to turn off hardware acceleration.
The crashing appears to have stopped, but now the video quality is degraded and jerky, to the point that the video can just freeze while the audio continues. So either I crash or I have poor video playback.
Has anyone found a solution to the BSOD that would enable me to re-activate hardware acceleration?
Symptoms with hardware acceleration enabled: Computer will crash after playing a handful of YouTube or other online Flash videos. Exact number of successful playbacks varies, but it will usually crash somewhere around the sixth playback (I cruise YouTube the way other cruise Wikipedia.) The screen will first flash black on one video, and when the next video starts, the computer crashes.

ThanksHi Chris, thanks for responding.
Browser: IE9 64 bit, and Firefox 17.0.1
Dxdiag attached, but are you wanting a version of this after hardware acceleration has been re-enabled and a crash has occurred?
Thanks,
Steve

Blue Screen of death - now can't load Windows (even in safe mode)
Last night laptop (Satellite L500 19Z; Win 7 64 bit) crashed whilst playing CIV4. Got a blue screen of death; before I had chance to read any of the error messages on it the machine rebooted.
It loaded windows in safe mode fine then, and informed me as it had loaded safe mode OK the problem will be related to some recently installed software and I should uninstall programs I'd installed until it would load normally. As it was late last night I shut down and thought I'd sort it in the morning (in retrospect this may have been a mistake ....).
Today, when the machine tries to boot up it attempts a Startup Repair; unfortunately this fails every time and it says "Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot detemine the cause of the problem"
I looked at the log it produces but it passes all the individual tests.
I also can't access the advanced options for system recovery & support, which appears on the Startup Repair dialog box as it demands I be logged in, which apparently I'm not (presumably as the machine never got to the windows login screen before trying the startup repair). The error message reads "you must be logged in to access system recovery options. If you are having trouble logging in please contact your computer administrator for assistance. please click OK to restart the computer."
I've had a go at booting into the various advanced options (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. but the outcome is the same).
I also tried the Repair your Computer option from the advanced boot options screen, but after the screen where it asks you to choose the language and keyboard, I get the same login error mentioned above.
Is there a way to repair or even run the hard disk based windows recovery (haven't got the recovery DVD with me as I'm away from home for a couple weeks) without logging into windows? I would have expected there to be but have yet to figure out how to do it.
(there are no disks in the disk drive, no other devices attached to the laptop - I've tried it with mains power and with the battery and have not noticed any differences)
Thanks
JamesNormaly the reinstall data is on a separate part on your HD, not in Windows.
The register is only used for Windows.
If it doesn't work you can always try to reinstall from a DVD later.
It does mean all your data on C:\ will be gone. If you can hook your HD on an other PC you can try to safe your work with a recover prog. -
Blue screen of death on Toshiba P755-S5375 with ADOBE ENCORE CS6
I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6. I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray. For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6. After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore. About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD). This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD). I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.
I am using Encore version 6.0.0.492
Here are the blu-ray drive specs:

We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

Blue screen of death when building blu-ray in Encore CS6

When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help -
Macbook Pro late 2008 with Mavericks gets Grey screen of death.
Hey guys..
When Mavericks was released, I updated my old Macbook Pro (late 2008) 2.8ghz on work, and since then I have had a couple of Grey Screen of Deaths.
I had none of those before Mavericks, so I guess thats the source of the problem.
I've been trying to figure out what might cause it, from the crash log below, but I can't seem to figure anything from it, so I was hoping you guys could help me?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to be a kernel panic, caused by some PowerManagement from kernel_task. But how do one fix that?

Thunderbolt Bus:I am having similair issues : MBP 4.1 2008
It does not want to reboot at all .
Stops with the grey screen .Spinning wheel / gear stops spinning and Mac reboots automaticly to.... get stuck again .
Ive tried the recovery : No automatic reboot But same screen : ( grey , stuck stopped spinning wheel) some how it enters Disk Utility because I can trigger the voice that ask for the language etc. (I left it there overnight without result ) I dont see DU on screen ( tried second monitor : No luck )
Did a hardware test : No issues
Did single user logon : fsck : No problems with the drive ( after 2 runs ) ( 1st runs : changes were made )
Did Logon Verbose status : Initial messages : shutdown reasons : code 128 ... now followed by code 3
Tried to reinstall the original OSX ( 2008 ) No luck : grey screen changes to darker screen coming in from the top asking to reboot the system .
1st real bad signal was : When donwloading Maverick ( again ) to create a bootable USB the screen started flickering ( this started when pressing the download button ??? - I had to reboot the mac to stop
2 days later :
Last Live activity with this mac was : Trying to create maverick Bootable USB using diskmaker X ) During this activty the mac died on me .
I have a full time machine backup : so no worries about data...I hope )
This mac is one of the lucky ones with the bad NVDIA 8600m gt cards ... after upgrarding in march 2013 to Lion ..it crashed on me with the black screen of death ...Since apple stopped the guarantee I baked it in the oven at 200 c for 7 minutes . For the last months it was working Fine . ( Hardware check shows no issues - and upon reboot it chimes happy ..)
What could be my next options ? ( Obvious buying a new one ... This is allready launched as an idea . I need more creative thoughts :-) -
Please help me the screen of death keeps popping up again and again
pls pls i have several impo files and am preparing for a tough exam the computer keeps restarting showing screen of death message.....this happens after i updated to osx mavericks pl help pls

White screen of death + labtop screen not working (HELP PLEASE)
Hello guys and thank you for reading this.
As you can probably guess, I am no computer pro. I own a HP labtop (A8 quad-core vision AMD). Recently I wanted to log back on it and found out that my screen had broken while I was moving out. I then proceeded to plug my acer screen to it with the blue
plug (you know the one with the 2 little screws :P) and when I finally logged on I saw that i had what they call the "white screen of death".
I found out many videos and articles explaining how to get rid of this white screen. Unfortunately, when I start up my PC and press F8, I dont see this on my acer screen, for some reason it goes up only when I can log in to my computer so I can't see the
Safe mode and everything.
It would be my greatest pleasure if someone could help me to get back into my labtop.
Thank you for your consideration (sorry for the typos english is my 2nd language)<
Gabriel. As per my understanding, boot up screen will come up on primary display. Since, primary is broken so you wont get it in external display.

White screen of death going temporarily black screen of death.
I have a iphone4s that went white-screen-of-death on me just last week. recently its now giving me a multi-coloured screen show, and a finale of black-screen-of-death. Not sure what to do, and whether its worth going to the apple store when I can't afford repairs, and its a year out of warranty. I can still answer calls, or access apps, etc, but can't see what I'm actually doing.

What is nipalk.sys and why does it give me the Blue Screen of Death?
Recently I purchased a 6211 USB data acquistion unit. Everything worked fine until one day Windows Explorer crashed (we all know how rare that kind of event is...). When I re-booted, I got the Blue Screen of Death, with a message about nipalk.sys being the culprit. I booted in Safe Mode and re-named this file, and then was able to boot normally and re-install the driver software for the 6211, and everything was fine...for about a week, when Windows Explorer did it again (Oops!).
Does anyone know:
1. Which exact part of the install supplies nipalk.sys? It is a huge install with multiple parts accross 2 CDs. I could save a lot of time if I could restrict the install to just repairing the damage.
2. Can I just make a copy of nipalk.sys and tuck it away in some corner of my hard drive to use as a replacement when this happens?
3. I'm guessing that nipalk.sys is used by the little system tray icon that watches out for DAQ devices to be plugged into my USB. Is this guess correct? Can I turn this feature off for the 99% of the time I'm not using my laptop for data acquisition? Will that protect me against the gorking of nipalk.sys when Explorer goes down?
4. What is this driver doing that its file disk becomes corrupted during a Windows Explorer crash?Paul-
OK. When I can afford the time, I will try removing all NI software and re-installing. I have LabVIEW 8.0, DAQmx (of course), NI Vision development, and IMAQ.
I also had LabVIEW 7.1 on my machine because it was too much trouble to
remove it when I upgraded to 8.0 I have since removed 7.1, but I think there are still a lot of older versions of the "extras" that came along with it still lurking on my hard drive....
I was hoping for some guidance for a short-term "work around:"
1. If I just re-install DAQmx, can I make a copy of nipalk.sys and store it somewhere as a back-up to avoid the painfully long 2 CD re-install of DAQmx?
2. If the answer to 1 is "no", then exactly what part of DAQmx installs nipalk.sys? It is a multi-part install, and if I know which part is responsible for nipalk.sys, I can repair just that and save a lot of time.
To answer your questions about version: I'm not sure. I don't have convenient access to the disks at the moment, but they came with my 6211, which I ordered in May of 2007. I would be tempted to call it "the latest", but DAQmx seems to get updated quite frequently, so let's just call it a "recent" version.
Thanks,

Hi Gurus,
We have currently upgraded from 11i to R12.1.2 and we have decided to USE MLS & NLS(Multi Language Support) for the very 1st time.We have 4 Languages (American,Spanish,French,Portuguese) so when we query for data in tl tables(apterms_tl,ra_terms_tl,fnd_responsibility_tl) we get four records for a single term_id because we are using 4 languages so we need to keep a language join. What I am doing is
Select * from ap_terms_tl where agent_id = 5 and language = USERENV('LANG'); which returns only one row with US as the language. Here is a sceneario where I am struck I want to see data in a different language like Spanish or french or Portuguese so how can i achieve that. what i am trying to do is
ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LANGUAGE = 'BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE'; and then querying for
Select * from ap_terms_tl where agent_id = 5 and language = USERENV('LANG'); i get data in Portuguese. How can we achieve this from user level perspective. like when we register a Canadian USER and he wants to see American and vice -verse.
here are the profile options for NLS & MLS
PROFILE_NAME USER_NAME
ICX_DATE_FORMAT_MASK ICX: Date format mask
ICX_DATE_LANGUAGE ICX: Date language
ICX_LANGUAGE ICX: Language
ICX_NLS_SORT ICX: NLS Sort
ICX_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS ICX: Numeric characters
ICX_TERRITORY ICX: Territory
I tried setting up these profile Options but didn't work. I am struck Here(like where to set these profile options to make the MLS work).Let me explain the sceneriao
Here is what we are trying to achieve When a user from Canada login into Oracle Applications and runs a request set or a concurrent Program he has to see the output in Canadian Language Responsibility this should be done dynamically(changing the Language). You have give me a scenario like changing the preferences and setting the session languages can we dot it dynamically like as soon as the user logs in from Canada his session Language should be set to Canada Language.
I am just waiting for some help from the gurus.
Help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards
Krishna
Edited by: user12156300 on Mar 11, 2010 9:29 AMHi Hussien,
I able to see the languages in the tables and when i alter the session and I able to see the data in that particular Language.Even i log-in into oracle applications and click on Preferences and change the session Language Other than US i can see the screens in a different Language. Is there anything we can't do dynamically instead of user signing into Oracle Applications and change his session Language.
Like when the user logs-in from Canada then he can automatically see his country language.
Thanks & Regards

Multi language Support - JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.0
Hello everyone,
We have an application developed using Rich ADF Faces(JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.0). We have to do a POC in order to support multi language in the input text labels for the JSF Screens.
Any ideas please? My idea: read the (mental note to self: remember to say "fine" and not the other word) [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/b31973/af_global.htm#CHDGCAFI]fine documentation

Multi Language support for lost password management in OAM
We are trying to implement lost password management with multi-language support. We have updated lpm_changepwd.xsl for UI changes. Some of the text on the password change screen come for the lpm_changepwd.xsl. How can we have the text on the password change screen in multiple language?
Thanks.
VinayWas able to do it by adding new files to the shared folder and updating the style in the lang folder to point to the new files.
