Multi language shut down message

When I try to login on my wife's ibook G4 under her name the computer freezes and the multi-language shut down message comes up. At one time I had set up another login in my name and on that I can login fine. ???? Any ideas??

Turns out it is what they call a kernel panic.

Unfortunately they don't have much to say as for fixing it...
Looks like I'll have to make a trip to the Apple store.

  • While editing photos iPhoto shut down.  The unexpected shut down message appeared and I pressed re-open.  When it reopened I had lost my most recent import as well as imports from the past 2 weeks.  When I try to re-import it says that they already exist

After an import of about 20 black & white photos to iPhoto I was editing one when iPhoto shut down.  The "unexpected shut down" message was displayed.  I clicked reopen, which it did.  However, my last import was completely missing.  Not only that, everything I had imported, adjusted and filed for the past 2 weeks was also missing.  It has still saved all of the albums I created but all show "no photos".
When I try to re-import from my back-up, iPhoto says "can't import, photo is already in the library".
    Can anyone help?

    What version of iPhoto?
    Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Mac mini keeps displaying shut down message every 10 minutes help?

My mac mini 320 gb machine with the cd drive in it from the 2010 model keeps displaying the shut down message every time minutes and I don't have enough time to check everything and i need some help. Thanks

Here is a link to a system preference you can check.http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4014?viewlocale=en_US
    It is a security feature.
You did not mention it but are you using a movie player other than the provide DVD player or iTunes.  For example VLC.  If you are, for some reason OS X does not know what is going on, i.e. watching a movie, so it thinks you left.  So, after 10mins it trys to log off.  The annoying part is that it will not do a force log off if there are programs running.  Well atleast it is annoying to me.
    Good Luck,

  • Shut Down Message Hangs Computer

I purchased a Late 2008 MacBook Pro (2.53GHz / 4GB RAM) in October, and everything has been running great. Recently, however, I've noticed something strange—when I go up to Apple > Shut Down or Apple > Restart, the "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" question pops up, but the system hangs for 2 or 3 seconds as the 1 minute timer begins to count down. If I move the cursor during this time, it will jump around the screen, as if the computer is working on something extremely intensive. The same thing happens if I press "Cancel," and it takes a second or two to return the focus onto the application on top. This problem does not happen when I physically press the power button on the computer in order to get the Shut Down/Restart message. I know this is a minor issue, but I would like to get some feedback as it's only begun to happen recently and it seems like it could be a sign of different (bigger) issues.
Any ideas for tracking down the problem? System.log shows nothing. Activity Monitor shows a jump in activity when I choose Shut Down from the menu, but I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem other than looking at the graph on screen. Thanks to anyone with advice.

Thanks, I just tried the disk utility from the CD and it says the hard drive appears to be OK. Permissions were also repaired, but the problem persists. I also tried creating a new admin, but the same thing happens when I log in to that account. However, I noticed that the computer does not hang when I go to Apple > Log Out — the dialog box shows up without a hitch.
This seems like a strange problem. I've had Macs for years and years, so I think I have a good feel for how they're supposed to be running. This is definitely an issue I can live with for now, but if anyone still has any diagnostic advice I would certainly appreciate it.
If you boot in the verbose mode - hold down Cmd-v on boot - you will not only get a verbose boot, *but a verbose shutdown* and that might be useful.

  • Can't start Audition 3 goes to Shutting down message

I click the icon for Audition it gets up to Initializing required components and then a dialog box comes up that says Shutting Down to continue working where you left off, please restart Audition. Absolutely stupid message nothing about the problem and obviously I am not working/using it and restarting won't help because it will tell me to do it again without it ever starting in the first place!
    I have:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    3ghz quad core AMD
the latest 64 bit drivers for my M Audio card.
All sound etc works fine for other applications.
Tried talking to live support, some women that had no actual clue about the software just wanted me to work through the generic steps like go to hidden admin to get admin functions, I already am in Admin totally useless. And sends me to cpsid_82827 trouble shoot that has nothing to do with the kind of problems I am having.

Sounds very familiar... I got all excited about aur and all the bleeding edge software out there for arch when I first switched and ended up messing my system up in much the same way.
Anyways, for starters you can post the output of
    pacman -Qm
here to see if anyone spots something bogus that you've installed from aur.
I'm sure there are those that would disagree with me, but if I were you I would just save the output of
    pacman -Q
and reinstall your system from scratch... Also, I don't know if you're using yaourt, but I would advise against it in the beginning since it makes it so easy to install unsupported software... I think it's better to download the package and makepkg it by hand because it makes you think more about what you're doing (at most use something like cower). That's just my opinion though...

  • Help! G4 PowerBook "Detect Displays" triggers shut down message

I think I may have damaged my PowerBook by being too lax with a DVI/VGA adaptor when unplugging it from a VGA multimedia projector - I was in a hurry and removed it from the Mac whilst it was halfway through shutting down. (I've gotten away with this before but have since heard it's not a good thing to do, probably even worse if halfway through shut down).
If I choose Detect Displays now, it triggers the "Are you sure you want to shut the computer down?" message.
I also am unable to boot up successfully unless I hold the Option key during the initial black "chime" screen - the PowerBook appears to die with a squeak - both the HDD and SuperDrive lose power. Option-V won't give me a verbose boot unless I flash the PRAM, and then works only once.
(I've reinstalled Tiger 10.8.4, have run Disk Utility and have flashed the PRAM.)
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

First off, I think you got your numbers confused. There is no 10.8.4. There is 10.4.8. But that's immaterial here. You should try to run the hardware test than came with your Powerbook:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
It may be you shorted the signal to the videochip, or the power supply.
Resetting the power manager may also work
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Be sure when booting off the disk, to disconnect all thrid party peripherals.

I've tried cleaning the dust out, the fan is super loud, tried updating everything, including nvidia driver, java, origin, windows updates, etc. Windows 7 & my daughter was playing Sims 3 when this first started yesterday. Sent my computer for repair twice when under warranty for same issue, now it's 2 years old so support wants $60 to troubleshoot over the phone.

    Hello Stephaniedannyo,
I understand your PC at this current moment will not even boot up.
You stated that you have the PC serviced twice while under warranty; do you remember what exactly was done or replaced on those 2 service calls?
Also when you turn the PC on if you look at the keyboard do you see any lights that blink it what seems to be a rhythm? (Ex. The caps lock or number lock lights)
Please respond at your earliest convenience.

    HP Photosmart Plus B209A
    Windows 7 (64 bit)
On occasion when printing a report from Quicken or when printing a PDF document, printing stops and I receive the following error message. "To avoid damage, use on button to shut down. Do not use outlet to shut down". When I click OK on the touch screen, the paper ejects. I can switch to another PDF document just for testing process and another document will print ok. Don't know why I get the shut down message when I am not trying to shut down, just print a document.

Please read this post then provide some details.  How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? It appears the printer is losing communication with the computer breifly and appearing to be turned off.
What print mode are you using?  Fast Draft puts the most strain on the printer power supply.  If you are using Fast Draft make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and is not connected through a power strip of surge suppressor.

  • My Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13" 7,1 shuts down randomly...?

Alright, so I just started having this problem today. There's no apparent cause (it just happens randomly) but it seems to happen more often if I make some sort of rapid movement with the computer it happens more often. Occasionally, the "shut down" is accompanied by a 'pop' sound.
Each time it shuts down, I get a different colored background to accompany it. I'd prefer my MBP not turn into a slideshow of colors every 10-15 minutes. I'll update this with pictures as soon as I get them into my dropbox. I've had two light tan colored shut downs, one with no color at all, one with this oceanic green color, one orange, one yellow, and one purple. I have no idea if this means anything, but I figured I'd include it just in case.
I googled a bit and random shutdowns apparently used to occur because of some issue with the power cable on older MBPs. This makes no sense because I wasn't charging when I started having this problem, but I started and it still shut down.
The only difference from stock on this MBP is that in late January I replaced another non-stock hard drive that crashed with an Intel X-25M 80GB SSD. I have no idea if this is something to do with it, but I haven't had problems with it until now if it is.
As a side note, typing this message has been the longest it's been alive without shutting down.
Please, let me know if you have any idea what can be done or if you need more information. Thanks!

    Sorry for triple posting.
I just got, for the first time, a legitimate shut down message. The screen dimmed and it popped up the standard "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again."
(In case I haven't mentioned it yet, that's what I've been doing every time this happens as it seems to be my only option).
I restarted and got the 'report to apple?' error box. I opened up to copy paste the code into a text file to upload for anyone who might know what to do with it here, but I got another random shutdown as I was choosing a location for the file save.
My computer is literally turning into the rainbow. Anywho, here are a few examples of what's happening. The red one is actually orange and the blue one is actually purple, my phone's camera apparently doesn't see very well.

It may be worth mentioning that the first few times this occurred, none of my preferences, data, and settings changed. Somewhere along the way, I lost all of my custom Dock settings, my Active Corners settings (Top right was spaces, bottom left was Exposé). Not sure what else has been lost, it seems.

  • Safari shuts down when trying to login to a site...same prob in itunes

I think it happened after the last security update...
Anytime I log into a secure site safari just shuts down...no error message or shut-down message or anything. itunes does the same thing if I try to login to my account or if I try to burn a CD. I saw some people having similar problems with safari...anyone with the itunes problems? Any solutions or do we have to wait for another update from apple? Oh, firefox works.

    Found a solution that works:

Security Update 2006-007 (#6): Login to secure sites fails (cont.) -- fixes; Problems launching Microsoft Office apps; more
Login to secure sites fails (cont.) -- fixes We continue to report on problems logging into secure (https) Web sites in Safari and other WebKit-based applications after applying Security Update 2006-007. Since this update makes modifications to WebKit, it's logically implicated in the difficulties.
Even more telling than the WebKit changes, however, is the resolution (in this security update) of a vulnerability where "certain revoked certificates may be erroneously honored." It appears Safari is -- instead of erroneously honoring bad certificates -- erroneously rejecting some certificates.
There's one more change in Security Update 2006-007 that could be implicated in this problem: a fix for a vulnerability where it may be possible to create an X.509 certificate containing a public key that "could consume a significant amount of system resources during signature verification. An attacker may cause a system to process such a certificate, leading to a denial of service."
In at least some cases, the issue appears to be tied to certificates issued by VeriSign. Safari is incorrectly interpreting some of these certificates as invalid -- with a mismatch in the certificate-listed host name and host name of the visited URL.
As such, one potential fix involves deleting certificate entries using Keychain Access, as follows:
    1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
    2. Click on "Certificates" in the left-hand pane
    3. Delete any entries from VeriSign, or any certificates with a red cross next to them
    4. Re-attempt access to the problematic secure site
The most successful fix, however, involves deleting the file com.apple.security.revocation.plist from the following directory:
    * ~/Library/Preferences
You can replicate this workaround to some extent without deleting any files by opening Keychain Access (as mentioned above) then navigating to its Preferences (under the Keychain Access menu), clicking on the "Certificates" tab and making sure that both "Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP)" and "Certificate Revocation List (CRL)" are turned off. However, some users have found that only deleting the aforementioned file works.
Unfortunately, in some cases, it may be up to certificate providers to update their certification methods for compliance with Apple's new,

  • Zen Jukebox 30G "Shutting Down" then ha

I bought this unit about a month ago, and I am not very pleased with it so far. The biggest problem I encounter too often is when I power up the unit, it shuts down after playing for about 5 seconds. However, it hangs on the "Shutting Down" message, and it never goes away. I have to remove the battery or press the reset button in order for it to go away.
The battery is nearly fully charged.
I can get it to go away by letting the battery discharge, then charging it up again. But this is a hassle, I don't want to have to do this. After the battery discharges again, and I recharge the unit, I am back into this cycle again.
I upgraded the firmware to the latest version on the creative site.
Please let me know what I can do to solve the issue. I am ready to take the unit back to best buy and get an ipod instead.

If you upraded the firmware then all you can really do is run a disk cleanup. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
If it still misbehaves then the player is faulty.
My only iPod owning friend has had to return his twice with battery problems. And I monitor an iPod forum which also is full of people with problems.

  • My Mac keeps telling me to shut down my computer

My MacBook Pro is showing me a "You must shut down" message, and after I restart, it appears again before I can even login. Is this something I can fix or do I need to bring it in?

It's a kernel panic - most often this is due to faulty memory, but logic board problems or a failing hard disk can cause it as well as improperly configured external hardware.
Run Apple Hardware Test. If it reports "no trouble found" then run the extended tests. Report any problems it finds.
You don't know which version of OS X, or which MacBook Pro? Knowing both of these details will help get you started in the right direction.
