Multi-layered buttons used psd

Newb here... I have a multi-layed psd file that I would like to use as button. Simply says Lesson 1. One layer is yellow, then white, then red for normal, active, and selected. What do I do to make each layer show as a button as I go from normal (yellow), to active or hovering over the button (white) to selected(red)? been messing with it for a while, but can't seem to get the right combo of actions in the button inspector, or whatever. thanks in advance!

Quick description:
Create the entire menu with background as the layered PSD
Set separate layers for different states (inactive, rollover, active)
Add the PSD as a Multilayer Menu
Draw button around your region designated as a button on the PSD
Make sure that only the background is turned on in the Menu settings in the inspector (checked, and other layers unchecked)
In the inspector for the button, select and check the layer for the appropriate state.
Check the state/display with the state/display buttons under the viewer.

  • Multi layered 16 bit psd files appear mangled in Aperture

    Hello everyone,
I have started using Aperture as my main organisation program but I have some issues with its integration with Photoshop. In paricular when I open my file using 'open in an external editor' in Photoshop it works fine until I do some multilayer editing. The image then appears weirdly mangled usually with only one layer showing and the rest left as black. On occasions I get some weird effects distortions ot parts of other images etc. I think the problem appears when the layer has some transparency but I need to check that further.
I am using 16 bit psd file and I have checked maximize compatibility in Photoshop. I've also tried to update or generate the preview in aperture with no results. Finally, I tested the same thing on a mac at work getting the same problem so it is not specific to my machine. Note that when I open the file back to photoshop everything is fine so this should be just a preview issue.
I would be grateful for any help,
    Dionysis

Thank you both for your answers.
In the meantime I researched further and found exactly the issue and a workaround. The issue is only with 16 bit psd files and has to do with alpha channels as you both mentioned. Now, I would disagree that this is acceptable behavior Leonie. In my opinion this is a serious bug but anyways..
A workaround is to place an all white alpha channel exactly after the RGB channels and BEFORE any other alpha channel as suggested here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2708851?start=0&tstart=0
This is working (contrary to what is said in the above post) but be patient with the previews as they take ages to update.
Trying to automate this I've made an action to create the alpha channel and used the script manager to run it when a new document is created. Now this does not work because the document is created in Aperture when pressing 'open in external editor' and the event is skipped. I instead had to associate the action with 'open document' which of course means that I will have an alpha channel created every time I open a document..
I made the action so it names the channel 'bug fix' so I will just have to clean up every now and then.. I may choose to activate the action with a shortcut instead and have to remember every time I create a new document.
Anyways, a bit of an annoying bug and seems to be around for quite a while. Hopefully Apple is going to fix it at some point.

  • Importing Multi-Layered Photoshop CS2 files...

Hello again everyone. I trust you are all well.
I am currently constructing some tutorials for my Video Editing class and I am trying to demonstrate how to import and use Multi-layered Photoshop CS2 files inside Final Cut Express 2.0.3.
    Here is the problem:
My iBook is running Final Cut Express 2.0.3 but does not have Adobe Photoshop CS2 on it. My DELL PC is running Adobe Photoshop CS2 and I am creating my PSD's on that and then transfering those PSD's across to the iBook with either my USB stick or my iPod.
Now according to the Final Cut Express 2.0.3 Help file, "When you import a layered Photoshop File into Final Cut Express, the file becomes a sequence in your project".
However, when I import my PSD, that was created on my DELL in Photoshop CS2, into Final Cut Express 2.0.3, it does not import it as a sequence, but as a flattened still image.
Is this because I need to have Photoshop CS2 installed on my iBook for the PSD to be imported correctly as a sequence, retaining the layers, or is there a compatability issue with creating PSD's on a PC and then trying to import them into Final Cut Express 2.0.3?

Thanks for your quick reply Tom!
I had a feeling this might be the case after I did some more testing with Photoshop files created on a MAC. If I resave those PC Photoshop files on a Mac in Photoshop, they import correctly as a sequence into Final Cut Express.
    Thanks again for the advice!

  • Multi-Layered Image reopens as blank layers with no work done.

    Hi!
My Quick Selection tool was acting weird, so I saved my multi layered image but when I reopened the image, there was no work saved. All that showed up were blank layer after blank layer with the names I had put in. What happened to the amount of work I put in?!!?!?!?!?!? Is there a way to recover alllll my work? Please Help!!!!

  • Any way to import multi-layered Illustator file into Motion?

I have an Illustrator map of Europe and i would like to bring it into Motion.
I know that Motion can import Illustrator files as pdf but is there any way to import a multi-layered illustrator file into Motion. I just saw this web site regarding a Motion plug-in that claims to do just this:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16298/layerlink

Without a dedicated plug or FxPlug, Motion has no inherent ability to parse Illustrator layers.
We just bust the layers out and save them as individual files. Or, of course, we use After Effects.

  • Using PSD files . . . HELP

I have a psd file with a transparent background. I have built it video template and pixel correction in photoshop. I need to know how to use it. I place it in the timeline. If i select it I then get a additional tab in the timeling for just that image. . I have figured out that I need to make duration changes in the tab. However, when I place it in the time line again (I need to use it several time) I can't change the duration of the second without changing the first usage, them both instances do not show in the viewer.
I have Tom Wolsky's FCE 2 book but can't find where it explains how to control a psd file. If some one could help me out it would be great. Even just directing me to the correct section of the book would help greatly.
    Thanks

If you need to manipulate the individual layers of the image in FCP, PSD will work fine. But if you don't, then use a TIFF file. Much more convenient to work with. Plus a TIFF file format will maintain it's layer editability in Photoshop and still show any applied layer effects in FCP without having to rasterize the layers.
For PSD, import the file, then double-click it in the Browser to load it into the Viewer. Set the duration (upper left hand TC window) prior to adding it to the Timeline.
Once it's in the Timeline, if you double-click it, it will open in it's own Sequence. To open it in the Viewer instead, right-click on the image and select "Open in Viewer."

  • Layers of imported .psd files are cropped?

Hi, when importing .psd files the images on layers are cropped...?
In Photoshop an image on a layer is moved across the visible portion of the document as if it is animated, through the use of comp layers (each new comp layer the image is move a little bit).  However after importing the .psd into After Effects only a portion of the image is visible...it is impossible to recreate the animation roughed out with Photoshop comps because some of the image on the layer being moved is cropped.
I hope that makes sense...how can .psd files be imported into After Effects without cropping?  Thanks

Thanks so much for such a prompt reply...the single .psd file with many layers is imported using:
    Import Kind: Composition
Layer Options: Editable Layer Styles; Life Photoshop 3D (although there are no 3D layers in the .psd...so I'm unsure if this default is needed?)
Oh!!  Never mind...I just tried Import Kind: Composition -- Cropped Layers and the layers were not cropped...kind of counter-intuitive since I would have thought "Cropped Layers" would crop the layers rather than the other way around.
Thanks for your help...if you just reply to this post I'll mark your reply as the answer, thanks for suggesting the direction to look for a solution, cheers!

  • Merging layers then using smart sharpening

I have been trying to apply smart sharpening to multi layers by creating copies of the layers, merging the copies then using smart sharpening on the merge. The change shows in the smart sharpening dialogue and I can see the change in the merged layer thumbnail but when I press OK the sharpening change disappears. The funny thing is that this method works pefectly with unsharp mask or any other image adjustment I apply to the copied/merged layer, it's just smart sharpening that doesn't work.
    Any ideas?
    Tony

Thank you for the quick reply
I normally do use 100% view when sharpening and as you suggested, this solves the problem.
I am still slightly puzzled why unsharp mask seemed to handle a less than 100% view better than smart sharpening but that doesn't really matter as long as I remember to always use 100%.
    Thanks

  • Multi-layered graphic

I'm having a problem using imported multi-layered photoshop graphics (720 x 480 72 dpi) After importing one to the browser, if I drop it into the timeline, it looks great. When I double click on it and it opens up to show the layers, it still looks great. But if I do anything to it, including rendering it untouched, stagger the layers so they dissolves in on top of each other, change the size of any layer or apply motion, the quality of the graphic is compromised. You can see the pixels of the text and the objects become blurred.
I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions??
    Thanks.
    Jamie

There are five layers, transparent. I did bring them all in together. I'll try bringing them in separately.
The only resizing I've done is scaling them down, not up. I just changed the field dominance to none but that didn't help. (Do I need to change that back for future projects??)
I have been looking at it fully rendered.
    My sequence settings are:
    Frame Size: 720 x 480
    Editing Timebase: 29.97 fps
    Field Dominance: none
    Aspect Ratio: NTSC-CCIR 601 / DV
    Anamorphic: Off
Video Processing: YUV allowed (8 bit)
    White Point: white
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Millions of Colors (24 bit)
    No Data Rate Limit
Where in the motion tab do I need even numbers??

  • Stitching multi layered images together?

Is there a way to stitch multiple multi-layer files together?
I'm using Cinema4D render passes and it puts all the image passes (reflectivity, ambient, specular, etc) into separate layers for easy manipulation.  However, I'm using a tile camera that splits the image into quadrants for faster network rendering.  The downside is that it doesn't re-assemble the images back together.
Is there a way for Photoshop to glue multi layered images together?

I have not tried to do this. As Mark stated flatten them first save a copy and merge those.
Although you could try and report back. Keep in mind that Photoshop needs some overlap to stitch images together. If its just sliced into 4 quadrants just make a Blank file the correct size and dupe all layers and point them at the new file.

  • Photoshop Layered Buttons+menus

    Hello,
I imported a layered photoshop file into DVDSP4.0. I am able to isolate the layers from the PSD file to act as my background. So far so Good.
I then created a button, selected a target for it but am unable to select layers from above PSD to act as states for my button. I do not get the "layers" tab in the inspector when I select the button to edit it. I only see "Style", "Advanced", "Color" & "Transition". What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

Make sure you have raterized all text and effects
Take a look here for how to do layers and also you can download the Photoshop files if needed

Which version of DVD SP 4.x on which machine and OS? (In case the above does not help.) Anything before 4.1 on a MacIntel can be a bit inconsistent

  • ANY HELP ?? Making a Layered Button

I am making a DVD and the menue has two buttons. I set the background to the main menue to have two images flickering, representing the two buttons. I was woundering how I would go about getting it so that the button they have highlighted does not flicker anymore, and then when activated changes to a different image. Now I tryed using a layered menue but it would not let me use the same file for the background because it was a video file. and you cant use layered buttons on the regular overlay menue. Am I just stuck with having to settle with a different approach?
    any help would be appreciated

    Nick,
Unfortunately with a layered menu you are unable to use video or audio. A layered menu is essentially a set of seperate menus. The best way would be to set each button to auto-action to an identical menu with only the changes that you would like for each button. Then from that menu you can proceed to the desired track, menu, or slideshow. This usually works pretty well, but depending on the DVD player you might notice a slight delay as it moves from one menu to the next. I think i rushed that explantion so I hope it is clear.

  • Multi-State Button

    Hello,
I have a multi-state button in my movie. I want it to pause and play but I don't know what to enter into the "Parameters" box.
-COMMAND SENT - when switched ON           sendAllSprites #Toggle_On, the currentSpriteNum
when switched OFF           sendAllSprites #Toggle_Off, the currentSpriteNum
    Please help!
    Thanks.

    > Thank you. Now, where do I put this code?
It can be used in several ways to tell the button to toggle -
    as long as the
button sprite is drawn on stage, and have the multi-state
    script is
    attached.
Put in a framescript, like this:
(assuming that the button is in spritechannel 1)
    on exitFrame me
    sendsprite(1, #toggle, true)
    end
    or
Put in a script attached to the button sprite, like this:
    property spriteNum
    on beginSprite me
    sendsprite(spriteNum, #toggle, true)
    end
    As a simple test:
    - start the movie
    - open the message-window (ctrl-m on windows..)
    - write: sendsprite(1, #toggle, true), and press return
change 1 to the correct spritechannel, and toggle the button
    on/off by using
    true/false

  • Multi cam shoot using  P2 cards. How to move clis to timecode positions

multi cam shoot using P2 cards. How to move clis to timecode positions. We were using free TC. I want to a large # of clips from both cams. and have them move to the correct TC position on the timline. In Nuendo eith audio u hit apple a or ctrl a right click move to orgin. Avid will take care of it for u. FCP???

If you read the "Apple Pro Training Sereis; Final Cut Pro 5" book, it's very easy. You can sync the clips manually by setting In or Out points, specifying TC, or using one of the two Aux TC fields. Since this is the first, and most basic step in doing Multiclip editing, I'd suggest you get the book, or read the appropriate section of the User Manual. I don't think anyone wants to post a full "how to" article in a forum.
It can be done, you're clips have to all have been recorded with synced TC, or they simply won't sync up in any NLE. Read the book. Cause even if I did have the time to explain FCP's Multiclip editing in this forum, you'd still have questions that are in the book.
If you actually walk through the first steps of building a Multiclip to edit, it's blatatnly obvious in the first step. I'd give it a try first.
Problem is the DVCPRO-HD codec is going to require a higher end Mac with tons of RAM and either RAID, or internal drives to do a DVCPRO-HD Multiclip, as DVCPRO-HD (P2) is a pretty high bandwidth codec. I use it daily, I know, it takes horsepower to do.
