MULTI-LINGUAL SAP Portal

Dear Specialists,
Believe SAP Portal supports multi-linguial portal.
What are the things to be done from the SAP Portal side for the same.
Our ECC is going to be in multi-languages.
Thanks.

  • SAP - Multi Lingual

    Hi,
We are working on a proposal for client who has presence in Europe, Latin America and Asia. Some of the countries are UK, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, China and Thailand.
We are trying to come out with an answer on the multi-lingual SAP implementation u2013 whether we should go for it or not? What are the issues in this? Is this a big effort?
One of options can be that have SAP in English and them convert all the layouts (where required) into the local language.
    What would be your suggestions?
    Thanks

We are doing that. We have 12 languages in the system (incl. Russian, Polish, Hungarian and Chinese) and we offer the external daughter companies their own languages. Installing a language in the system is (if the system is Unicode) not a big issue. The country specific implementation definitely is - but this would need to be considered even if you decide finally to only use English.
We install in those companies the Windows MUI (English Windows + specific language on top) so the support people can log on there in English (or German) to check things if anything goes wrong and they don't understand error messages. The same is true for the SAP systems of course also.
You also need to think about a general output concept (printing). Using localized "printer versions" are mostly only able to print that one codepage the printer has by default. We are just about to switch printing output to UTF8 (Unicode) also.
I think this is all manageable from a basis point of view (that's what I can speak for only) as long as you don't use any BIDI languages (Arabic, Hebrew). Then it can become really complicated - although I'm sure it's feasible as well once "understood".
It's a total different story if you have employees sitting in the office who're able to speak English or if you have people working in "the factory" who need to work with the system as well and who do not understand English. This issue can conclude that processes need to be designed differently (someone has to type in the data who understands the language) - however, this depends on your processes and how you plan to work with the system.
The big advantage of such a language specific implementation is "system acceptance". People will more identify with the system and will accept it better if they can interact in their native language (that's just our experience).
A disadvantage may be the "SAP terminology", people doing rollouts may have difficulties to speak of the same thing if using two languages. Communication will need to be increased to make sure both parties speak of the same.
I also suggest you order a Globalization Workshop and let SAP explain their experiences and pros and cons. We did that too and we decided to have a language specific implementation. This may work for you - or you will finally conclude that it won't.

  • Multi SAP ECC Server Connection to Single SAP Portal

    Dear Experts,
We have connected multiple SAP Client of same ECC server to Single SAP Portal and we are able to view data using various standard SAP ESS/MSS Objects.
Is it feasible to connect Multiple SAP ECC Servers to one SAP Portal Server for showing data from varios servers using Standard ESS/MSS Objects.
    Any help appreciated.
    Rgds
    Gulshan

    Hi Gulshan,
You are right....these are the JCO names being picked up by standard ESS/MSS applications.
The Standar DCs will be calling these JCO names only while connecting to the SAP Server.
    As you described,
The portal do have system alias name as unique name.
You may need to use some customizations.....plz find the below threads...they may be of your help.
    [Thread1 - Change the JCO name (RFC_META_DATA) |Change the JCO name (RFC_META_DATA);
    [Thread2 - How to change the JCO reference to an existing model|How to change the JCO reference to an existing model;

  • Com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap doesn't work

    Hi all,
I needed to change the file 'WinGuiRenderLayer.properties'
I found the par under 3 locations:
    d:\usr\sap\SPD\jc00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\portal\portalapps\com.sap.portal.appintegrator.sap
    d:\usr\sap\SPD\jc00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\deployment\pcd
    d:\usr\sap\SPD\jc00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\deployment\temp
I changed the file in those locations (I removed the bak extension and restarted the server).
Also, I made sure that the pars/directory contains the jar files.
After I restarted the server the application integrator iviews doesn't work (Web Dynpro, Transaction...).
Before I did the changes, I backed up the original pars/directory.
Copying the original pars didn't help.
    How can I solve this?

    Solved it.
    This is what I did:
    1) Took par from my production environment (same SP level)
    2) Clear the par (by using 'Archive Remover')
    3) Clear the pcd cache
    4) Upload the par (redploy)\
    5) Restart the portal

  • BI portal VS  SAP portal

    Hello,
We are thinking about implementing the BI 7.0 and publishing some reports with it in Portal. Question is should we use the BI portal or SAP EP portal?  We are already having SAP EP 7.0 installed and BI portal (with BI) is also installed.
For performance reason -- we should use the BI portal for report  and links these reports  in main SAP portal so user has one single point of to see the report from SAP EP.
My thoughts on performance on single source of (main) portal for BI and all the other stuff on main Portal  should not be an issue because all the work for querying the reports will be done in BI server, Portal is only show the reports ? is this assumption is correct?
If we have two portal, as system admin we have to maintain two different portals,
What be the best approach (pro and cons) using the BI Portal VS SAP Portal?
    Please advice.

  • Multi Lingual String not getting displayed properly with Java 1.5.4

    Hi,
I have a strange problem and i think the problem is due to java 1.5.4.
    Problem is:
My application was previously deployed on weblogic6.1 server and jdk used was 1.3.1
After i migrated my application to weblogic 9.2 and started using jdk 1.5.4, i am not able to correctly view the data which is stored in different languages on browser.
    Some more details:
    OS - Linux.
    Database - Informix 9.2
    Intresting part is :
If i enter a new multi lingual string from my application (deployed on WLS 9.2 with JDK 1.5.4) and store it in database, and then try to retreive it, it is displayed correctly.
Issue arises only when the multi lingual string created and stored in database from my old application (deployed on WLS 6.1 with JDK 1.3.1) is retrieved and displayed in the new application (WLS 9.2 with JDK 1.5.4).
Hope my issue is clear and if any one has any clue as to how to solve this issue. Kindly help

  • SSO to J2EE application from SAP Portal

    Hi
I am trying to do SSO from SAP Portal to a J2EE engine which runs on SAP Web AS.
    Here are my queries
    1. When I deploy a J2EE application on Web AS , I dont get any login screen. How can I make sure that if a user wants to access this J2EE application he should get a login screen and provide his login credentials first, only then would he be able to access the J2EE application.
2.When I am done with Part 1. If a user tries to access this J2EE application from the Portal (asuming the user Id's in Portal and J2EE application are same and both are in the same domain) , I should not get any login screen and should be able to view the J2EE application.
3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.
I have done all the necessary configurations in the J2EE server.
    1. Imported the Portal's verify.der certificate.
    2. Adjusted the login modules stack for the application accordingly.
Can anyone please help me out with this or throw some light.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vivek
PS - Points will be definitely rewarded

    Hi Vivek,
Let me give you the solution for both questions differently.
<b>Ques 1. When I deploy a J2EE application on Web AS , I dont get any login screen. How can I make sure that if a user wants to access this J2EE application he should get a login screen and provide his login credentials first, only then would he be able to access the J2EE application.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> For doing this in the code of your J2EE application you have to write a if statement which will check if the user ID is coming from the backend or not. If yes then you display that logon page else you just pass that username which is coming from backend and displ;ay the page accordingly.
<b>Ques 2.When I am done with Part 1. If a user tries to access this J2EE application from the Portal (asuming the user Id's in Portal and J2EE application are same and both are in the same domain) , I should not get any login screen and should be able to view the J2EE application.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> Yes, this is what I am explaining you. Even I had also made same kind of J2EE application in which if the user is coming from the backend then he/she will look the J2EE screen else if the username is not coming then he will se the Login screen. Exactly same as what are looking for.
<b>3.I want to use SAP Logon tickets generated by the Portal to enable SSO.</b>
<b>Ans:</b> I have used User Mapping instead of SAP Logon ticket. Well that is also the option for SSO but personally I think User Mapping is easy and better way for implementing SSO.
I dont know whether this will help you or not. Please let me know. I can definately help if you want to implement SSO using User Maping.
    Regards
    Pravesh

    Hi experts,
We had an issue with portal access. I wonder if portal is venerable for security threats?
Could you please let me how to restrict the unauthorized users (anonymous user) to the portal URL.
    https://HOST:50001//irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.navigation.portallauncher.default .
    Appreciate your help.

    Hi Maruti,
    Hope you are doing good.
Can't you just amend the portal permissions so that this access is not possible.
    The PCD location should be:
    com.sap.portal.system/security/sap.com/NetWeaver.Portal/no_safety/com.sap.portal.navigation.portallauncher....
    Hope this helps.
Thank you and have a nice day!

  • SSO from Microsoft to SAP portal

    Hi guys,
I am stacked in something regarding SSO, the problem here is that I have to create and ASP.net application able to create the SAPLogOnTicket and bypass the SAP portal logon screen and everytime I am using may application I have not to log in again in the SAP Portal.
Anyone who have an answer or a working example, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Armando

    Hi Armando,
if your application is extranet application (you access it from internet) then you need to use citrix to    log in to the portal without asking for username and password.
if the application is accessible from the intranet then you need to identify the application in the portal landscape system. for more information on this subject you can read the following useful help:

  • Create SSO on SAP portal to ECC 6.0 EHP4 backend

    Hello,
I want to create a SSO connection form my SAP Portal server to my ECC 6.0 EHP4 Backend system.
My JAVA Portal is installed on the same system as the ECC 6.0 backend system.
For the configuration I follow the steps as described in the document: http://www.sap-img.com/basis/configure-the-sso-single-sign-on-for-portal.htm.
At point 5.3 I have to set the Backend System as "ACL" in the Portal. So Iu2019m still in the Visual administrator from point 5.2 but now I go to the path Server --> Services --> Security  Provider --> Ticket.
Here I choose the authentication tab and want to add the com.sap.security.core.server.jass.EvaluateTicketLoginModule. Buth when I press the Add button I get a list of available login members. In this list there is no com.sap.security.core.server.jass.EvaluateTicketLoginModule login module available. Does someone know what Iu2019m doing wrong or how I could add the correct login module?
I attach a screen shot from Visual administrator.
    Kind regards,

    Cahtal,
Thanks for you quick reaction but it's not all clear for me. So could you explain it a little bit more detailed fo me.
If I write something wrong please correct me. I understand the following
So If I am on the "Authentication" tab I press the Add new button
In the list which shows up I select the u201CEvaluateTicketLoginModuleu201D
Here I change the name and option value to trustedsys01=<PORTAL_SID>, <PORTAL_CLIENT>
