Hi all
any one having any experience with either multi-master
or floating-master design of iplanet ldap servers which is more reliable ?
how many ldap server i can configure to be in the multi master mode ?
what are the performance issues which need to be taken care of while configuring ldap in multimaster or floati ng master mode ?
any other thing need to be taken care of ?
guys i am looking for inputs from all of u, pls spend 2 mins for this

e multi master mode ?Sun DS 5.0 and 5.1 support 2 masters. Sun DS 5.2 will support at least 4.

or floati ng master mode ?It depends on your update rate - how many updates will each master receive. If the update rate is high, you will probably want to tune your server for optimal write performance, and try to avoid them handling search requests directly. Instead, set up one or more hubs or dedicated consumers to handle the search request load.

Problem in creation of Multi-master

I created master group in replication.
I have decided to use multi-master replication and because of that I add another site to my first master site.But when I do that in OEM ,I encunter to a problem
called that invalid compatible version ....
My Oracle Version is 9.2 and compatible parameter in my oracle is 9.2.0.0.0
It is kind of everybody to help me.

its due to the number ranges that is specified in the partner determination ... chech what is the number range assigned in the parner determination ,,, so once u check that u have to manually enter the number between that range only .. this should solve ur problem...
path to check the number range is as below :
spro-img-logistic generalbusiness partner-customers---define account groups and field selection ---
at this point click position button at the bottom and give ur account group .. select ur account group and click detail button .. now inside that u can see the specified number range .. dafault is 08 ( means u can specify between 400000 to 499999)..
and some times u may not have defined number range... check urs and create accordingly ... this should solve ur problem...

Multi-Master replication problems

Multi Master Servers consists of 2 servers.
For this, the Sync function is satisfied.
But I think it's some problems.
If Master 2 Server is dead, only Master 1 saves updated data.
Master 2 starts service again after recovery.
At that time, if clients try to read the data before master 1 and master 2 make sync, isn’t it any problem?
(Because Master 2 data is not update.I know that auto sync time is not immediately ).
How can i solve thie problem.
Please give me the answer.

You will need to manually trigger Master 1 to send the update to Master 2. In worst case, you may need to re-initialize Master 2.

Problem in multi master replication creation using DBA Studio -- replication

I am trying to create multi master replication using DBA studio but facing following problem at the time of master group creation.
ORA-04052 error occured when looking up remote object SYS.SYS@CBOLDATA
ORA-00604 error occured at recursive SQL level 2
ORA-01017 invalid username/password, logon denied
ORA-02063 preceding line from CBOLDATA
If you want to know how I am trying the whole thing then here is the way I am doing comfiguration.
First I have created master site which is created successfully.
Here I have used two database named UPP817 & CBOLDATA
Step of master site creation is followed like this.
1. Master Site addition (Added both UPP817 & CBOLDATA using SYSTEM username)
2. Default User (No change is done, Default schema and password taken)
3. Master Site Schema (Added SCOTT/tiger)
4. Scheduled Link (No change is done, Default values taken)
5. Purge (No change is done, Default values taken)
6. Finished successfully
Master group creation there is three option available
1. General (Only value of Name is given)
2. Object (No object added)
3. Master Sites (It takes UPP817 by default as a master defination site then as a Master Site I have added CBOLDATA)
when I pressed on Create It gives me the error listed above.

Create public database link at master site database for CBOLDATA.
Also see that you are using SNMP protocol and Oracle Pipe at both
databases. This will be usefull while making replication from remote
place.

Multi-Master replica busy

I have a multi-master ldap server(5.1 service pack 2, build number:2003.028.2338). There are about 56k users in 1st server and 45k on the 2nd server when count the users in the 2 servers. Plus, I have a pure consumer which is working fine with the replica from 1st server.
But when activated replication between two multi-master machines, the secondary server got the error message like below. And the replica process is very slow and the cost CPU always 40% and up. Can anyone please help me with this issue? What the replica process suppose to do? Why the replica is slow? What happens if the replication queue is about 11k entries? How can I speed up the replica?

I have had a similar problem. and it was due to that I recreated a new replication agreement which pointed to a different server with the same id. Or to the same server with a different ID.
The solution provided by sun was to remove the reference to the old replicas in the dse.ldif and restart but it didn't work out. not even by ldapmodify on the replicas dn.
I had to reinstall...

Multi Master Replication - Only works for some tables?

I have a multi master replication between a 9i and an 816 database.
All the tables are in the same tablespace and have the same owner. The replication user has full privs on all the tables.
When setting up the replication some tables create properly, but others fail with a "table not found" error.
Ideas anyone ?

I try the same thing but with two 9i enterprise version databases, free downloaded from www.oracle.com.

Multi-master support

I have a LDAP server that want to sync entries to an AD. Can I config the a multi-master for the LDAP ?

Hi, the current Meta-Directory product looks at just one changelog (the RetroChangeLog for Sun ONE Directory v5.x) and as such true and full Multi-Master support with Meta is not possible at this time. However, the engineering team are in the process of documenting what cohabitation is possible when Meta is used against just one of the two Directory masters. This white paper will be available in a few weeks time, if you email me or contact your Sun ONE account manager this information will be provided to you.

Multi-master Replication and Metadirectory 5.0

The Metadirectory 5.0 documentation states that it cannot work with a directory server configured for multi-master replication. We need to use Metadirectory since we are integrating the Directory Server with other systems. Does this mean that we'll be forced away from MMR configuration? What are some of the alternatives? Does iPlanet have any plans for supporting MMR in future versions of Metadirectory?

I think you can enable the retro changelog on a consumer replica. I'm pretty sure that works.
You might be able to enable it on a hub. You also might get it to work on a master, but the changelog on the master will contain some replication housekeeping changes that may confuse Meta Directory. I'm not sure what they are but they are obvious if you look at the changelog. If you can figure out some way to screen those changes out from Meta Directory, you might be able to use it.

Multi-master access from separate DSCC views

Hi,
I have two DS6.2 installations - one in test, one in production. They are both multi-master (two masters) environments.
In test I can run DSCC on both masters, and can manage both from each DSCC.
However, in production I can only access both masters from one DSCC at a time. If I enable access on the second DSCC, then the first DSCC shows them in red as Inaccessible until I "Enable Access" which works ok, but then the second DSCC shows them as inaccessible.
I have been over the configs, and they appear the same in test & production.
Does anyone know what could be stopping the production instances from being managed by more than one DSCC?

Replicating the ADS instance, ie cn=dscc is not supported and not supposed to work so what you are trying to do is futile.

Multi-Master Replication Limits

I'm starting new project and would like ask your opinion. They like to have multi-master replication of a single table between Chicago and Denver. A record could be written in Denver, then same row read in Chicago. The opposite is also true. Replication delay should be less than 100 ms. Load is 100 TSP
I'm not even sure is possible to replicate that fast. What technology should I look at? I heard multi-master replication is not recommended any more.

Multi-Master Replication over the WAN

DS verison: 5.1 sp1
Did any one implement multi-master replication across the WAN or different IP subnets?

Sun does mention about DS 5.2 being better than DS 5.1 in WAN based Muli-Master replication with respect to replication performance. I wanted to see if any one out there had implemented (or even played with this topology in their labs) it with out any major hickups.

Multi-Master Requires Cold Backup?

Since the restore of a multi-master instance requires the restore of the backup and the changelog directories, and since the changelog cannot be backuped up with anything other than an OS copy command, and since an OS copy command will usually not create a valid backup of an open database file, is it not true that multi-master backups must therefore be cold backups?

By "In flight changes" I mean changes which have occurred on one master replica, but have not been replicated to the other. My mindset is on multi-master, but I suppose much of this applies to any supplier / consumer backup/restore (not just multi-master).
Your cold backup procedure is what I have implemented until 5.2. I still have not had time to test restores fully at this point with this backup procedure. I am somewhat concerned that after restoring both instances from their own backups, will replication work and will they synch up correctly.

Multi Master Site replication with Snapshot features

I am implementing a Multi Master site replication. I want to replicate Table A in MASTER SITE A to Table A in MASTER SITE B.
However, I don't want all the data from MASTER SITE A to be propagated to MASTER SITE B.I may want data that belongs to a certain criteria only to be replicated over.
I know I can achieve this in a snapshot site replication. But can this be done in a Multi Master Site replication too ?

As far under my observation, the tables that is marked for a replication from the MASTER SITE to Child Site is an exact replica of data. Your case could be achieved only thru SNAPSHOT VIEWS/GROUPS

This is the environment in which inserts, updates and deletes on objects
in any nodes, included in the environment will be replicated to remaining
nodes which are defined to be part of the replicated environment.
Sinces changes to any node are replicated to all other nodes, they all work
as Master, which gives it the name, Master-2-Master and also advanced replication.

Yes...it'll be in 5.2 which is scheduled for the end of the calendar year (around December...).
A beta version will probably be available sooner (may be just to selected customers though).
