Multi or Single Controlling area?

Hello Gurus
I have one doubt.I have 2 company codes in one company. My Question is shall i go for a single controlling area ( as per my suggestion) or go with two controling area ( as management says). It has not much controlling activities to do and it is onlu upto Internal order only. They are basically concentrated on FI only.
I need ur suggestion - why we shold or shouldnot go for multi conttrolling area? Advantages and Disadvantages of it
Thanks
Anup

Hi
Using a single or multi controlling area depends on your business requirement. If the two company codes are following the same CoA and have cost flows across them, it is best to have a common controlling area which allows better flow of cost across company codes

  • Running JVA & Non-JVA Company Codes with a single Controlling Area

    Hello,
I am currently working on a consolidation project. Our scenarios will involve activating JVA in some company codes while it is not activated in some other company codes. We intend to maintain a single controlling area in CO for all these company codes i.e. JVA and Non-JVA company codes have a common controlling area.
I would like hear from gurus that have implemented or a are supporting a scenario in which JVA and Non-JVA company codes share a common controlling area. I'd like to know if the technical and/or operational challenges of this scenarios, if there are any issues to keep in mind and possible work-arounds.
Any help in this regard would be appreaciated.
    Thanks.
    Oluwafemi.

    Hello,
From FI/CO/JVA perspective there should not be any issues, even if two company codes one JVA active and other non JVA active are there in the same controlling area.(I have been part of the implementation where both JVA and non JVA company codes resides in the same controlling area)
Its important to ask from consolidation purpose are you going to use any of the JVA table. If yes then you have to be careful because non JVA active company code information will not be stored in the JVA table.
It would be gr8, if you can share some of the apprehension from consolidation perspective, so that we can elaborate on the issues.

  • Multiple Controlling Areas

I have a client with multiple controlling areas in ECC 4.6c.  We are preparing them to upgrade to ECC 6.0 then migrate to the new G/L.  The questions is:  When is it "easier" to convert to a single controlling area, before or after the ECC 6.0 Upgrade?  Before or as part of the New G/L Migration?
They may not upgrade until very late this year or early next year.  They want to improve consolidated reporting as quickly as possible but are wary of the amount of time needed to eliminate the multiple controlling areas.

    Have you thought about re-implementing???
Migrating Company Codes from different controlling areas can be a complicated process. You may need to create new Company Codes and link them all to the new controlling area.
This will be a massive job - even if you dont want history.
Think of the master data - Customers, Vendors, Assets, Materials etc.
If you are to do anything you should get your rg Structure defined - i.e. one Controlling Area and then go for the new gl document splitting program.
The two pieces of work are Fiscal Year dependant, the next FY you would need to move to a single Controlling Area, and then the following move to document splitting.
You could do the Controlling Area and Upgrade (re-implementation) in one project and then do the document splitting the next Fiscal Year.
Either way - good luck, sounds like you are going to be very busy !!!

  • Controlling area

    hy sap gurus,
whenever creating controlling area, the system asks wheter controlling area = company code, (or) cross compamny code transation,
my question is the controlling area at company code level then u select 1st option, for u r doing cross company code trans action u select 2nd option.  here we have to maintain controlling area company level (not company code level and not cross company code trans) what to do.
    pl explain.
    with regards
    raja sekahr.a

    Hi,
Controlling Area to Company Code relationship can be 1:n i.e. you can assign multiple company codes to a single controlling area.
COCd --> Controlling Area settings dictates following:
    1) If you select Controlling Area = Company Code, you can have only 1:1 relationship between controllign area and company code i.e. you cannot assign multiple company code with this controllign area.
    2) If it is cross company code, then you can have 1:n relationship between controlling area and company code.  I would recommend this setting as it allows flexibility to assing another company code to the same controlling area in future, if required.
Hope this helps.  Pls award points if this is useful.

  • Controlling area setting

    Hi,
We have a customer which is a corporate including 2 companies separately in two different countries. it means these two companies have different company currency. My question is whether I need to set one controlling area or two. Please give some clues to consider it. If you have any suggest please tell me. Thanks.

    HI,
You can assign two comapnies to a single Controlling area, if:
    1. Both have same operating COA.
    2. Same fiscal year variant.
You need to decide on what should be your Controlling area currency.
    Some of the factors:
    1. You need to consider, if Cross-company controlling is required or not.
    2. All postings in CO are stored in 3 currencies viz., Co.Area Ccy, Object Ccy & Transaction Ccy. In the case of cross-company code controlling, the currency of the company code is always stored as the object currency. One disadvantage is that all CO reports predelivered by SAP system by default show controlling area currency. This is not a major disadvantage however, as you can use user settings (RCP0 etc.,) to change reporting currency.
    3. CO-PA: With Cross-company controlling, you can use only one Operating concern, which means two company codes use same set Characteristics/value fields for margin reporting.
However, the most important factor in your decision should be the processes you require in logistics.
    Hope this helps.

  • Advantages and disadvantages of having 2 controlling areas.

    Dear All.
My client have 2 company codes and will use same fiscal year variant and chart of account. so we recommend for one contrilling area. But my client wants some document or wants to know the advantages and disadvantages of having 2 controlling areas.
I will really do appreciate if anybody hepls me in this regards.

there is no general correct answer as every case is the different.
However, the majority of solutions that have a single CoA will also have a single Controlling Area.
The Controlling Area is the highest reporting level in Controlling, PCA, CCA etc.
Normally if you have two CoA then you will have two Controlling Areas.
A simple point to make to them is that a Controlling Area can only have 1 CoA, therefore you cant have 2.
Are your Company Codes in the same Country?

  • Controlling Area's

    Hi All,
I have 2 Company Codes, does the single controlling area controls both the company codes or is't company code specific?
    Thanks in advance
    Vineeth.

single controlling area can be assigned to different company codes
    -> 1:1 relationship
You carry out cost accounting on a cross-company code basis.
The internal and external accounting viewpoints are identical.
    -> 1:n relationship
In cross-company-code cost accounting, all data relevant to cost accounting appears in a common controlling area and is available for allocations and evaluations. The internal and external accounting goals diverge. This method is preferred when, for example, a corporation posesses several independent subsidiaries and undertakes centralized cost accounting for all.

  • Changing controlling area from single company code to cross company code

    Hi,
Due to my client requirement, in the middle of the year, we need to change the controlling area from being same as company code to cross company code controlling area. Although the currency is same. We are going to create a new company code. Is the changing controlling area settings possible to do? what are the precautions and changes need to be taken?
One more question, we need to change the company code when the new company code is created in the system in Cost Center Masters in the middle of the year. Is this possible after changing controlling area from single company code to cross company code. Right now company code is not appearing in the cost center master.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Saidarao

    Hi,
If both companies having transaction data its not possible,Normally before defining Organisational Strucutre only we have to deside both companies is assigning same controlling are or have to maitain separately for this we have to compare the Fiscal year,Operating chart of accounts ,if both having same then we will assign both the company codes to one controlling area if these two companies having different currencies also its not a problem. When we creating Controlling Area we have to choose option of controlling area as same company code (if one company code one controlling Area) for example if you assigning two companies then we have to use cross company code cost accounting. If u need any further information let me know.

Relation bet ween company code and credit control area is
    Many  to One

  • Different sales organization single credit controle area

    Hi,
Different sales organization single credit control area is it possible

Yes. It is very much possible & pratically used by most of companies using SAP.
Just go thru SAP documentation in this menu paths & you will understand.
    1. IMG - Enterprise Structure - Assignment - Financial Accounting - Assign company code to credit control area
    2. IMG - Enterprise Structure - Assignment - Sales and Distribution - Assign sales area to credit control area
    Hope this helps,

  • Configuring the DbEnv for multi-process single-writer scenario

I have (1) a multi-process server program (Apache/PHP) using the XML container read-only and (2) a couple of scripts (Perl, PHP, whatever), one of which may be performing update work on the data at any given moment. There is, however, no concurrent write access.
Write access, if I've understood correctly, commands the use of transactions in a multi-process scenario. Specifically, I'd use:
    * DB_INIT_MPOOL, DB_INIT_LOCK, DB_INIT_LOG and DB_INIT_TXN when creating the environment, so that all subsystems that will eventually be needed are in place;
    * DB_INIT_MPOOL, DB_INIT_LOCK, DB_INIT_LOG and DB_INIT_TXN for writing;
    * DB_INIT_MPOOL for reading.
Please correct me if these assumptions are somehow flawed or simply wrong.
    Do I need more flags?
Now, in the Berkeley DB Reference Guide, I read about Berkeley DB Concurrent Data Store Applications and the DB_INIT_CDB flag. I wonder if (a) this information also pertains to BDB XML and (b) this fits my scenario - only one write process at any given time.
If I can use DB_INIT_CDB, what will I gain with respect to the scenario laid out above, or any other possible scenario?
    Michael Ludwig

    Hi John,
thanks for pointing out that the flags used to open the environment have to be consistent among all applications.
    As for CDB:
CDB puts a single big lock around the database, and
won't let any readers get access to anything while a
writer is operating. Generally it is advisable to use
transactions in preference to CDB, which will allow
concurrent reads and writes. You should also consider
using MVCC, to increase concurrency more. Thanks for this info on MVCC. I remember reading an interview with the Interbase (then Groton Database) developer Jim Starkey, who seems to have invented MVCC, in which he told how, one morning in the shower, it appeared to him that multi-version concurrency control was the solution to almost all problems. Well, database problems, maybe.
I read about MVCC in your Transaction Guide.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/xml/gsg_xml_txn/cxx/isolation.html#snapshot_isolation
"What [MVCC] means is that every time
a writer would take a read lock on a page,
instead a copy of the page is made and
the writer operates on that page copy.
This frees other writers from blocking
due to a read lock held on the page."
I think an application featuring high concurrency of read and write operation will benefit from MVCC, provided there is enough memory to accomomate all the page copies. And I will eventually need this.
At the moment, however, the update is done using the typical nightly crontabbed batch job. Not much traffic expected during the update, and no updates while the site is busy. I doubt I have much to gain from MVCC in this primitive scenario. What do you think? Would I still benefit from MVCC, or would I only incur the copy overhead without benefitting from it for lack of read-write concurrency?

  • How to determine the length of a line of text in a multi line text control

I am working on a simple widget to compare two snippets of text.  The string controls are side by side with a colum of square bools in between
    the two string controls.
The Bools line up with the lines of text in each string control.  The Bools are used as a quick indicator that at that line point there is a difference
    between the two string controls.
There is a slider that allows the user to scroll up and down,  the slider scrolls both string controls simutaneously.
As the string controls are scrolled I will be comparing the left and right lines of text and reflecting the match status in the Bool Colum.
The reason I need to know the length of the line of text is so each line can be compared against one another.  It is not as simple as counting the
col width of the string control and parsing the text because if there is a line return the text will word wrap before before it extends all the way accross the string control, which will cause parsing discrepencies.
Any suggestions on obtaining the multi line string control text character length would be much appreciated.
    Best Regards
    Tim C.

  • Profit center not found in controlling area

    Hello all,
While trying to change the wbs element of a PO in ME22N, I am getting the error message "Profit center XXXX not found in controlling area".
Do any one hava an idea how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Soumaya

Check whether the PC Hierarchy has been defined or not in KCH5N / KCH6N for your Controlling area.
Single PC - Check in KE53.
If not, you need to define the PC Standard Hierarchy
    Thanks

  • Multi-values selection control configuration

The multi-values selection control give the user the option to select values from 'right to left'.
Is there a way to reverse it to 'left to right', like users are regular from other GUI applications?
Even in OBIEE other cases, like delivers subscribers, the selection is from 'left to right'.

    Hi nir,
The behaviour is default in BI you cant change it.....As the default one would be right to left. Its not possible to change.
    UPDATED POST

  • Maintain controlling area

    Hi Guys,
When i am trying to maintain the controlling area I am getting the following error. I am trying to use the copy function when trying to create the controlling area and it is giving the following message
"You can only copy or replace object area in structure mode"
How can we create the controlling area.
    Thanks,
    Srikanth.

    Hi All,
I am also getting the same error, mentioned below.
You can only copy or replace object Controlling area in structure mode
    Message no. CZ448
    Diagnosis
You can only copy or replace the organizational object Controlling area in structure mode, because multiple object dependencies need to be considered.
    System Response
The action cannot be carried out in single mode.
    Procedure
Copy or replace the org. object in structure mode. Choose "Structure" and select a suitable enterprise structure from "Templates" or enter your own choice in "Navigation".
I tried to create controlling area many times with same procedure but system always shows same error which i had mentioned above.
Chart of accounts & fiscal year variant are same of both controlling area 0001 & company code 0001. Also company code 0001 is assigned to controlling area 0001.
Still i am getting this error every time when i create controlling area.
Steps which i am following while creating controlling area are - Enterprise Structure - Definition - Controlling - Maintain Controlling Area. In last step i am creating controlling area in activity "Copy, Delete, Check Controlling Area".
Please advice solution for the same.
    Earliest reply would be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
