Multi recording with garageband 08

Is it possible to record(playing Live) more than one track in the New GB version in same time like in Logic ? I want to play more than one Instrument LIVE on stage. Example:
1. Live- voice, 2. Synty, 3. Piano and so on by using the original GB - softwareinstruments. In GB 3 you can only select one track at time.... Thanks for help

I just wasn't sure whether such devices simply plug-in to the FireWire port on the Mac and are ready to go
the FirePod is plug and play, many other interfaces require drivers, it's one of the reasons i choose, and recommend, the FirePod:
http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#firepodsetup
Would I be correct in saying that the 8 real instrument limit is due only to the limitations of Garageband,
yes. the FirePod, for instance, offers 10 channels out, other interfaces may offer any number, GB supports 8 at a time.

How can I record with GarageBand 1.3 in the background using other app?
I use iPad 2 with iOS 6 and GarageBand v1.3.
I'd like to play an other app like Sunrizer synth while the GarageBand is recording in the background in a track.
By now I can do it only using the build-in mic of iPad, but this is not the point.
Can I record other apps in a GarageBand track?
Thanks a lot for your time.

I suspect you are probably correct about the reasoning, although there are already a myriad of ways to do that.
Don't get me wrong - I never said I like this. But it is consistent with other Apple applications, that are similar restrictive; you cannot take a screenshot, when dvd-player is running for example.
That are the moments, when I am glad that MacOS X is a unix system under the hood

  • Recording with Garageband for IOS

I wanted to share a recording or two using the ipad so that people could see that garageband for IOS doesn't suck.  I didn't spend too much time throwing them together, but at the same time they're not too horrible either. They give a pretty decent idea of what a 1st gen ipad with a 5 dollar app is capable of in regards to guitar and shred-type guitar stuff. I'm kind of sick of reading and listening to scathing reviews on how the ipad and Garageband in particular is for non-musicians and noobs who want to sound like they're making music... (ooo that could describe me... yikes!) If I could have had an ipad-like device when I was just getting started, I think that I would be a much better player today. I am totally blown away at the expectations people have of a 5 dollar program, when they haven't spent the time trying to see what it does do well. Anyways, here's hoping that this post helps people out that are trying to find out what the capabilities of an ipad with GB are, especially if they are a guitarist. At the end of the day, it is still the person using the device that either makes it sound horrible, mediocre or amazing...
So anyways, I decided to make a quick track where I didn't spend too much time on the music, and I used only what was in GB in regards to my tones and stuff; That means all stock amp and pedal combinations. I also wanted a track that focused on guitar parts, and making the best of what the app has to offer. I'm sure with some tweaking and mucking around there could be some much cooler tones generated, but hey... it is what it is. Also, I used a Godin LGXT direct into the ipad with an Apogee Jam. Very inexpensive. Bass and drums were recorded with the Line6 Mobile25. The tablet's screen works too, but I find that the keyboard is a lot more accurate, especially for drums. Obviously, you could go into the drum and guitar parts and edit and tweak the parts further, creating drum parts that feel and sound a bit more lifelike, but I didn't do that here; this one was about direct recorded electric guitar...

Arguably, you could also record your stuff via microphones also. In this case I used a Roland VS880 as a mixer (It was handy), with 4 CAD microphones connected to it to capture my drum kit. (I'm not much of a drummer, but you get the idea...) I then just lined out of the VS880 into the apogee Jam into the ipad. BANG! This app could work very easily for drummers also... or people who must have their tone and not a digital preset...

    I own a couple of good mac boxes loaded with killer software, and I also have some decent interfaces. They are pretty superior in regards to the amount of options that they present, without a doubt. And then when you include all of the 3rd party plugins and loops and stuff that you can get... well, it's very, very nice. The ipad intrigued me because it's self contained, and is extremely portable. It has limitations which force one to be kind of clever in order to work around them. Also, the recording process with an ipad is very, very quick. Setup time is minimal.  So anyways, with just Garageband, and an Apogee Jam (I have the irig connector also, but in my opinion the Jam is so much superior...). The only other thing I'd reccomend is the Line6 Mobilekeys25 which I used here; MUCH easier to enter notes in on bass and drums. Here's some points to sum up my opinions on my experience with the device;
No it's not better than Logic or Cubase or prottols or something with an interface. It's only a 5 dollar app on a 600 dollar tablet (In my case an outdated 1st generation ipad).
There's only 8 tracks, but you can bounce and merge.
The amount of sections is limited, but you can work around that too...
It's extremely portable. Way less gear to haul and set up, but feel free to use your own stuff with it also...
GB on a tablet is very, very easy to learn. Super intuitive and quick to use.
The amount of sections is limited, but again you could always just make another song project and then stitch it together later...
The amp and pedal emulations aren't as good as Guitar Rig, a line6 Pod Pro hd, or a FAS Axe-FXII. But they aren't horrible, they are certainly pretty good for the price of 5 bucks...
If you're broke/poor and want to get into recording and sharing your music, this is the ideal way to go about it. Your recording device (The ipad) also makes documents, does email, takes and edits pictures, takes and edits video... The only thing standing in the way of you sounding great is you...
The 'merge track' option is a powerful tool, especially on your midi tracks.
No pitch correction. Waaaaaahhh boo hoo! You're gonna have to learn how to sing. Plus, it's only 5 bucks!
Don't want to use the internal drum sounds? Or want to use your amp's miced sound? Get a small mixer, and connect your mic to that. Then connect the mic to the Apogee Jam (There are other products out there that work better and in stereo, but this would do in a pinch) and you should be good to go.
I recommend using a small keyboard like the Line6 Mobile Keys 25 to enter your midi/virtual instruments stuff in. For me, using just the pad means more track editing after I enter it...
The last point is this; there's other software besides just GB. Cubasis anyone?
Anyways, thanks for checking this out, I hope that it helps, and if anyone else has any opposing viewpoints or points to add, please do.

  • Recording With GarageBand

Does anybody know how to record an electric guitar with GarageBand, i already have an audio interface and everything is already plugged in and hooked up, i just need to know how to set it up within GarageBand so that i can record.

You might want to use the GB forum(s) instead, as I suspect you'll have other questions etc. Good luck in any case.

  • Do I really HAVE to use a wired headset to record with Garageband? Is it 2015?

I'm trying to record on my iPad with Garage band, using a Bluetooth headset.
As many of you already know, there is quite enough being plugged in, balanced on laps, or set on tables while
recording on an iPad. I have a perfectly good bluetooth headset to relieve some of the stresses of recording on
a mobile interface, however it just isn't supported by this app? The app is very well aware of this, so it was not
overlooked, and I certainly paid money for the app (and the ipad), so why am I limited?
Not only would it be nice to hear a legit answer, or even possibly some feedback on how I can bypass this,
but it would also be great if you would just go ahead and update garageband to support bluetooth headsets.

After re-reading the prompt, I see that there may be some kind of delay, but honestly that would just require me to move the track to fit, it's not that big of a deal.

  • Spot recording with garageband v1.1

i have the first version of garageband and I cant seem to spot record or punch in/punch out. I have followed to directions, clicking on the button, highlighting the section I want to record over, but when I back up the play head to the beginning and hit record, it automatically jumps to the start of the section I highlighted and records, it doesnt start at the beginning of the song where I set the playhead. Making punching in and out impossible because I dont have a chance to get ready. I need to be able to start at the beginning of the song and then record at a section and stop recording, punch in and then out basically. Am I doing something wrong here? Is this just a bug in garageband v. 1.1? Help!

It should be. You could try to trash GB's preferences and see if it works afterwards.

  • Using a 4 track recorde with Garageband

I am new to this so forgive me if this sounds stupid.
I have a Yamaha, Mini-disc 4-track recorder. It has MIDI in/out and I have a MIDIsport 1x1 MIDI to USB cable. Is there anyway to send the MIDI signal to garage band or what should I do. I am doing vocal recording only and would like to use My MD 4-tr. recorder. Can these two be used together or is my attempt futile. Thanks

MIDI is not audio, so no.
If your Mac has a Line In, you could use a Line-Out from the 1/4 track recorder which will let you record a stereo track at a time in GarageBand.

  • How can I record my guitar amp with garageband?

Hello, new member and new to recording with garageband!
I would like to capture the live sound of my guitar amp using garageband. I know there are many modelling and FX options using GB, but I really want to hear how my amp sounds.
    I'm using the following:
    -macbook pro and garageband
    -Presonus Inspire 1394 interface
Traynor YCV 50 all-tube guitar amp
    -Shure SM57 mic
    -Yamaha SG700 electric guitar
So far, the results have been dismal. My main instinct was to keep all levels in the green and go for it. I used the most basic setting in GB with no effects added. All attempts sound like I'm playing into a garbage can.
Any quick tips would be appreciated, please and thanks!

Your setup should be getting excellent results.
Are you using a real instrument track?
Are you sure garageband is getting the input from the Shure and not the built in mic?
Is the mic close to the speaker / pointed at the speaker / have you tried pointing it at different parts of the speaker?

  • Write multi-records

    Hi Experts,
I found very good how-to guide in SDN to read multi records with cobol copybook.
And I would like to write multi records txt file? Every line has different length but fixed. I can have repetitif line like contact because vendor can have several contact but all contacts have the same fixed length.
    Exemple Vendor
    Vendor:<Name><Type>...
    Address:<Address>...
    Contact:<Fix Telephone>..
    Contact:<Moble Telephone>...
    Vendor:<Name><Type>...
    Address:<Address>...
    Contact:<Fix Telephone>..
    Vendor:<Name><Type>...
    Address:<Address>...
    Contact:<Fix Telephone>..
    Contact:<Moble Telephone>...
    Thanxs,

    Reading yes, writing no.
There are workarounds, e.g. write one file with all header rows, another with all detail rows and both files have the header plus a number in the first two fields, e.g.
    HEADER
    ORDER;1;data
    00001;1;abc
    00002;1;def
    00003;1;ghi
    DETAIL
    ORDER;2;LINE;data
    00001;2;0001;xyz
    00001;2;0002;sge
    00001;2;0003;dff
    00002;2;0001;rfew
When you then take both files, merge them together and sort them you get them interleaved
    00001;1;abc
    00001;2;0001;xyz
    00001;2;0002;sge
    00001;2;0003;dff
    00002;1;def
    00002;2;0001;rfew
    00003;1;ghi
This is just one approach, other work similar. The only multi-record format DS can write out of the box is XML.

  • How to call a report with a bind variable from a multi-record block

    Hi,
I have created a report using the BI Publisher functionality. I did all the integration, created the SQL Query and uploaded the template. Up till here everythings fine!
My SQL Query has 2 bind variables.
I will call my report from a multi record block, at the end of each record an icon is shown which the user can click to open the report.
I created a column link for this item (PRINT_REPORT=Inschrijvingsformulier) but I do not manage to pass the parameters to my report. The parameters I want to pass are 2 columns in this Multi Record block.
I created 2 hidden fields on the page P9_PARAMETER1, P9_PARAMETER2 with the same names as my bind variables and fill this in with the values #PARAMETER1#, #PARAMETER2# from the multi record block.
It seems it does not work as my report stays empty. (also XML file stays empty).
Am I trying the wrong way?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Kris

    hi khadeer,
create one report program and write the required code, and call this function module 'SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME' and give your smartform name  and also when u activate ur smart form u will get one function module call that function module also and specify any tables used...
i think this solves ur problem...
    any queries revert back..

I am using iMac OS 10.7.2 with Garageband'11 6.0.4. I can't record sound from  mixer Behringer X1622USB using USB out. when I connect the mixer to iMac via USB  appears USB Audio CODEC on Sound and Preferences but I can't get no sound from mixer to iMac only sound from iMac to mixer. I only can record sound using microphone line in. Please help.

    Eric,
Thanks for your reply. Realtek audio works only in playback. There is a stereo mix in the mixer but the recording controls are not operable with no sliders in the mixer for any recording option. Slider controls appear to be grayed out. Can't figure out how to enable them. Downloaded newest drivers to no avail.
The M Audio control panel has no apparent option for recording stereo mix. Adobe ignores the sound from the DVD or CD and shows flatline.
I'm trying to record the sound from the DVD not rip the track.
When I go to Audio Driver Setup and select Audition 3.0 windows sound, there is no input device installed.
I'm thinking of going back to a decent internal Soundblaster card like I have on my 8 year old machine I am replacing.

  • Air or Pro for Recording vocals with GarageBand or PT and Producing

I'm considering buying a MacBook and would like to get a new Air. I will be using it mainly for recording my vocals on beats that I have bought on iTunes. I'm also going to be taking a couple of Coursera classes on music production. Can the new Air's handle GarageBand or Pro Tools well? I've been using my iPhone 4S with GarageBand to record but I would like to do more editting of my vocals with Pro Tools. The reason I like the Air is b/c it is light and easy to transport.

One thing with vocalists, I can think of, is to show them the input device, and have them watch the clip meter. After a few takes, if they are somewhat savvy at singing into a mic, they'll start to back off on strong notes, and moving in on subtle notes. If you watch a pro singer on stage, you'll see them pulling the mic in close for soft stuff, and backing it way off for the strong notes. In the studio, the same techniques can be used, but the person has to back away, rather than a hand held mic pulled away.
Hardware can help this to an extent, but the singer has to take some action to get the best performance recorded. If I were going to use hardware, it'd probably be limiting more so than compression. Limiting can keep your signal under control, without doing too much to the dynamics. I'd prefer to save compression for post, so I can decide what sounds best. I used to have a female vocalist with an amazing voice. i was NEVER able to capture her properly on tape, since I had no pre processing at all. She is still in this area, and I have invited her to come record some vox for me, because I want to see if I can now get a grip on them. If I ever do, she'll be featured on an upcoming CD

  • Can't get GarageBand to record with line in

I just got my MacBook Pro last week and I bought a Monster 1/4" to 1/8" inch adapter so that I could record my acoustic/electric guitar with Garageband. I know that if you want to use the line in to record, you have to select it in the Sound area of System Preferences, and I have done this. The little bar on that window picks the guitar up, but when I play it in Garage Band, it is using the built-in microphone (I know this because when I unplug the guitar and keep playing, the computer is still picking up the sound) Can anyone help?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You shouldn't, this is only true for intel based Macs. There are still probably many people that don't know this.
Anyway, glad you up and running, enjoy --Hang
