Multi room with 2 Sky+ HD boxes

We have multi room with one old silver box (which you can record on but it doesn't have 'on demand' options etc that the newer Sky+ HD box has) & one newer box. Both boxes are in the lounge & we then have magic eyes around the house. If we upgrade the old box to a sky+ hd box too how would we change the channel on one box without upsetting the other box? Is there a way around this? THANKS

Sky won't be able to set 2 hd+ boxes up the way u require. U will need 2 I/o links and a super+ combiner to do what u require.  If u are doing it ur self I recommend using triax I/o links and a global spc4f combiner. If u are unsure of how to set it up I then best to use a local aerial/satellite company as sky engineers are not trained in this set up nor do they supply the right equipment for what u need.

  • Why can't I get a straight answer re: Multi Room DVR and HD Boxes

A rep that I spoke w/ on the phone and the website tells me that the HD set top boxes are not compatiable w/ the Multi Room DVR. But they are working on it. A rep I chatted w/ today told me they definitely WILL work together. Why can't I get a straight answer?? And what IS the correct answer? I want to switch to FIOS and I really like the Multi Room DVR option, but I don't want my 1 of my 2 main TVs to be w/o HD. And since the Multi Room Box is HD why wouldn't it be compatiable w/ the HD boxes??
Does anyone know what's going on w/ this?? Thanks!

    Joe01880,
And that info is out of date, whether it is on Verizon's website or not. If you have the latest level of the IMG (1.6), then, as confirmed one post above yours, that the HD STB is now supported, and works. This has been posted in multiple posts on multiple forums, so I believe that it is accurate. But I do not have the 1.6 level so I cannot confirm that personally, I can only repeat what other posters in this and other forums have said. For example:

  • Satellite A200- Interfacing with Sky HD box, via the i.Link on my Notebook.

    Satellite A200-1VP
I'm trying to find away of recording to my Notebook's DVD drive, from my SKY HD boxs harddrive, So I can copy recorded programmes from the Sky harddrive on to DVD discs.
But do not have an HDMI interface port, only the AVI & VGA out, which is not a digital input, only the other signal output as we understand.
So I was thinking about using the i.Link (IEEE 1394a) port, as this was designed to send DVD camcorder date to the Notebook to be recorded ? wouldn't the DVD camcorder be sending a Digital signal and if this is so, shouldn't this work in that way ? is there a device or cable on the market that I could use to make the interface possible do this ?
I've looked at cable's, through out the internet but cant seem to find a HDMI to i.Link (IEEE 1394a) there are plenty of USB to i.Link (IEEE 1394a), but seem to be under the impression that the USB 2 can not deliver the date at a fast enough speed for this to work..
Any ideas would be of help thanks.

Why you don't speak with your local dealer and experts for this?
If you don't have adequate port on your notebook you must search for other external solution.

  • Sky Sports on you veiw multi room

I am having trouble finding out the answer to the following question due to different inform from bt tv operator's and from bt tv websites.
I would like to get bt tv multi room with the you veiw boxes however would I be able to get sky sports on,
    both you view boxes or
only one box and not the other or
I won't be able to get sky sports at all
any help with this matter would be most helpful.

    Thanks for the information.
I have contacted bt tv four times about this matter 3 times by phone and once by email. I was told twice on the phone and once by email that sky sports with multi room is available.
Is this a case of bt tv operators not knowing the correct facts or are they just saying that sky sport with multi room is available without checking? Hence the different information that I have been given.
I could have purchased the you veiw boxes believing that sky sports with multi room was part of the package only to find out that it wasn't.

  • 2 dvrs or single multi room dvr???

i currently have one DVR set up for multi room $19.99 and one standardt STB $4.99.    My wife tapes tons of standard programs and watches them all in the bedroom on the STB (non HD TV there).   This of course limits what i can watch on the good HD DVR in the family room on the HDTV.    I'm thinking of upgrading the HD DVR to the new 500gb (black one) to take advantage of the new IMG and getting a second DVR for my wife in the bedroom, unless there is something i'm not doing right or something in the new IMG to enable the multi room DVR to allow me to watch programs on the HD DVR while two others are recording?   if I do the 2 DVR set up (one standard and one HD)  whats this cost?

Verizon doesn't distribute SD boxes any more ... just HD DVR, HD STB, and a digital adapter (which is SD but doesn't have the guide or the ability to do on demand or multiroom DVR).   You can use an HD box with an SD TV.
Anyhow to your question ... it's one of preference.   The 7232 500GB DVR can be run in multiroom DVR allowing you to watch one channel and record another while someone else is watching a DVR program, or record two channels and watch one on the local TV (and I believe also one on a remote STB).
Difference with two DVR's is the ability to record 4 shows simultaneously (and still be watching two from the DVR's) vs the single setup which is record 2 shows and watch one on each TV.
    So, for two DVR's, I believe it's 14.99 each.
For one DVR multi-room and your current SD box $19.99 and $4.99
For one DVR multi-room and an SD box $19.99 and $9.99 (although at one point verizon had a DVR bundle which dropped the latter to $7.99).
Another option ... and this is what I'm doing in my house with 4 STB's is 2 DVR's and 2 HD STB's with multi-hub enabled (multi-hub is basically multiroom with the new 1.9a IMG which makes all DVR's accessible from any box).  Cost $19.99 for the first DVR, two HD STB's roughly $6 each (DVR bundled discount), and a regular DVR at $14.99.   In your scenario with two DVR's -- $19.99 and $14.99 and you have the best of both worlds.
Recommendation -- one HD DVR multiroom and one HD STB bundled unless you need more the two tuners.

  • I already have sky multi room, do you have to pay extra subscription for a third box

I had a sky hd box given to me by a friend, do you have to pay extra subscription for a third box?

Found this article as I am looking at putting a skybox into my lads room, already have multiroom in my own bedroom but to find they charge for each box you install is a complete rip off. Looks like it will be a playstation and use skygo.
How on earth is that a rip off?
Sky Go is no replacement for Multiscreen as it only gives you a fraction of the service.

  • Why isn't there an option to record future shows using the HD box linked to a Multi room DVR setup?

I have a multi room DVR in my livingroom and HD boxes in my 2 bedrooms. Currently if you are viewing a program on one of the HD boxes you are able to record the live program you are viewing as the HD box will enable your DVR to record that show.
Why hasn't FIOS enabled the settop boxes that are part of a multi room DVR setup to be able to record future shows? Needless to say, if I am lying in bed at night and see something in the program guide airing at a future date I really don't want to get out of bed and walk to the living room, turn on the TV and DVR and then program that new recording.
If I have missed something and you can do this please let me know. Otherwise FIOS should add this to their customer's wish list and enable recording for future times on the HD boxes that are part of your multi room DVR system!

You can already do that.  Highlight the show in the guide and press the record button.  You should get a pop up with the option to Set Reminder or Record on your DVR.   If it doesn't check your DVR to ensure that availability is extended to the STB you are using.

  • New HD Set top box and Multi-room DVR

I just activated a new HD DVR set top box, but it's not seeing any of the shows recorded on the other HD DVR set top box that I've had for over a year.
Do I just need to wait for the new box/service to be recognized/activated with the hub (the HD DVR I had prior to now) or do I need to call Verizon to make sure they add the multi-room dvr service to the box I just received?
    Thanks!

If you replaced your dvr that had all your recordings on it, you wont have any of those shows on the new one because they are stored on the dvr itself.   But maybe im misunderstanding you, are you trying to watch recordings on a 2nd dvr, the multiroom feature does not work from dvr to dvr you can only stream to 6200,7100, and  2500 series stbs.

  • My Multi Room DVR has stopped working on ONE BOX ONLY

I have spent roughly 1 1/2 hours on the phone with tech support and would rather not continue that.  I have an 3 HD STB's in my house and 1 HD DVR.  For as long as I have had the service all the boxes could access the multi room dvr.  On Sunday I could not get the RedZone channel to work on the TV in my living room.  After numerous resets and reprogramming the redzone finally came back.  However, the STB could not access the MRDVR.  So I called FiOS again and they determined the box needed to be replaced.  I received the new box today, hooked it up, and everything is working EXCEPT the multi room DVR feature!
Is there any way to fix this without going through numerous resets on the phone with FiOS tech support?
    Thanks!

menu > customer support > in home agent = multiroom dvr troubleshooter.  that normally fixes mine.

  • Sky hd box interference with laptop

Hi Everyone I am having a rather odd problem , we have 2 sky hd boxes , 1 downstairs and 1 upstairs both are connected to the internet via wi-fi , we also have a multitude of devices that also use the internet via wi-fi in the house like ipods laptops x-box desktop computer and mobiles  , the problem is when the laptop is being used the sky hd box UPSTAIRS  loses connection and i get an error message saying cannot support hdcp ??? this only happens with these 2 devices , i can be on my mobile , the xbox can be on and the UPSTAIRS box can be fine , or i can be on the laptop and the DOWNSTAIRS box is fine but soon as we are UPSTAIRS watching telly and the laptop goes on ...bang we lose the connection and get this error message..... any help ????

Hi  it's been a while, I know, but have you managed to fix this? If so, how did you do it?
If not, it's something Sky may want to do some work on, so can you tell us:
Your Sky+HD box model number (Services > Settings > Details)
The make & model of TV
Other than your Sky box, what other equipment do you have connected to the TV's HDMI ports?
Does unplugging them correct the issue?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Sky HD box keeps losing signal but is fixed with a power cycle

Hi all, I'm having issues with my Sky HD box. Every day  (recently), I'm having to powercycle the box to get a signal. After the power recovery the signal is fine, so I think the dish is fine. It's seems the the box is losing signal while it's on stand by mode. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Jason

I had this problem too but in the end the solution was for Sky to come out and replace the dish and LNBs, since when the signal has been perfect. I would check what signal strength you are getting - I believe it's in the settings menu.

  • How to control volume in multi-room setup, with different tunes in each room?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of replacing my Squeezebox / SqueezeServer setup and have therefore bought two Apple TV's to experiment with.
I have a Windows Home Server on which I've installed iTunes 10.5 yesterday and I can (through RDC) use it to share music to the Apple TVs and even control the volume.
However, playing music this way is by no means what I was hoping for - I want to be able to play DIFFERENT tunes in DIFFERENT rooms.
Yes, that is possible through the use of my iPhone, using Remote to choose the iTunes server (the real server in this case).
But, and here's my issue - when playing different tunes in different rooms (using the Remote app connected to my iTunes server), how do I control the VOLUME for each Apple TV? Or should I play the different tunes for different rooms in a different way?
    Kind regards
    Niclas

    Thanks!
Yes I hope they develop either the Apple TV or Airport express or iTunes or all into a complete multi room music listening experience just like the Squeezebox / Sonos product range. They certainly have the possibility and they did try. Except they didn't make it all the way. It's fine to be able to play the same music in all rooms, but better still would be if I could play different music in different rooms AND change the volume without the need of an additional display or anything. The nice thing would be to have an airport express connected to a small amp with in-ceiling mounted speakers in e.g. the bathroom, the kids room etc. And the kids then control their own music, the bathroom has some rain forest sounds, but when I enter it, I change to the party music I was listening to in the living room, so as to get in the mood for tonights party... And when I'm ready in the bathroom, I switch back to the rain forest sound and one of the kids are so annoyed with the pumping bass from his brothers room, that he syncs to the same music, all the while I go into the kitchen and sync the kitchen with the living room and turn up the knob another notch or two.
This is the way my house works now and I can really see it work like that with Apples products, except they haven't done it all the way yet then. Too bad - I have only used the Apple TV's two days and started to like them.

  • Problem with Mult-Room DVR after moving to new location

We are having a remodeling project done in our Family room so I moved the multi-room DVR to another room to continue recording.  While I can see the DVR from our bedroom DVR (also multi-room), the moved DVR does not appear to be recording anything.  While we can see programs that were recorded (including at least one recording done after I made the move), the DVR states that they are no scheduled recordings (despite several series recordings being scheduled).  a reboot of the box doesn;t seems to have done the trick.
Any thoughts on what could be causing the problem?

Now it seems to be working fine. Before the newer backups weren't showing. It was just skipping from today to a few years ago. I checked this a couple of days in a row originally because at first I just figured that it hadn't created enough backups to show. The weirdest things is that there seems to be a couple of years missing. I know I've backed up the old computer between 2008 and 2010. Where did those files go?
It looks like Time Machine thinks you've had two separate Macs, thus the different names. You may be able to use the (badly named in this case) +*Browse Other Time Machine Disks+* option, per #17 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), to see the "other" Mac's backups.
    1. Can I delete the old backups? The reason I would like to do this is to free up space on the external hard drive.
Yes, but not via the Finder or Terminal. You'll have to locate them via the "Star Wars" display, per #12 in the FAQ.
But if you have (or are thinking of putting) other data on the drive, in the same partition as your backups, don't. See #3 in the FAQ.
    2. If I change the name of the file as described, will time machine find it?
+*NO !+* Never change, delete, or move anything in your backups via the Finder or Terminal; that can corrupt them beyond repair !

  • Is it really necessary for me to replace my STB 7100 series with this new multi-room DVR?

I just wanted to know other people's opinions on this because so far, I'm leaving my existing setup alone.  I was looking on line to see what upgrades may be available to me and the multi-room DVR is one of them, which now I see is not only available to just new customers.
But here are some of the reasons for my hesitance about switching:
    - I never record anything and I never will.  People say "never say never" but that's one "never" statement that I make pretty confidently.
    - I only have one TV in my house, just in the living room.
So I guess my question is, "What would I gain, if anything?"  Or would getting that new DVR be good preparation for further upgrades in the TV Guide Display?
As long as I can watch my TV and all the basics are working as they should, that's really all that matters to me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Based on your comments you don't need a DVR.
However if you were to decide to get one you only should get a HD DVR.  The multi-room is a software feature, not different hardware, that can be enable if you ever setup an additional stb for another room.  The multi-room feature is an additional $4 over the price of the DVR.
