Multi-Tasking help?

i just bought the new iphone and tried using the multitasking feature. i watched all the iphone commercials and they say that your game will be frozen when you switch to a different application.
so i was playing a game and went to the multitasking bar to take a picture. when i switched back to my game, it was at the beginning of the level, not where i was. so my question is why doesnt it freeze where my game is when i multitask?

i said that wrong. i wasnt at the beginning of the level, i was at the opening screen. like i just opened it for the first time

Where is the Asha line advertised as smartphones? afaik Nokia is clear these are (entry level) featurephones based on S30.
If you would be better of with a different phone why did you not do your homework before you bought the phone?
Nokia Belle will not come to Asha phones. Bell has completely different and much higher hardware requirements.

  • How do I see the multi-task menu bar?

I am trying to find a way to stop the app "Magellan Road Mate" when I am finished. Seems simple, however, there is no provision for turning the app off. Magellan says to go tap and hold the icon in the multi-task menu bar until a - sign appears then tap the minus sign and that will turn the app off. Being among the technically "near illiterate", I can't seem to find the "Multi-Task Menu Bar".
Can anyone help me out? Any direction will be appreciated. It is embarrasing to be walking through a lobby in a hotel and suddenly your hip speaks...."recalculating route..."

Get back to the Home screen, double tap the Home button and the icons along the bottom will turn into the multitasking bar. Tap and hold one of these till they wiggle with a minus button on them. You an scroll sideways to find the apps you wish to close. Press the Home button once to remove the button then once again to return to the Home screen.
If you have an Apps running when you double tap it will not appear in the multitask bar till you exit to the home screen or change apps.

  • Ipad2: How to listen to Music in the background (Multi-Tasking)?

    Hi all,
Can someone please help me - I can't seem to keep my Music playing in the background on my ipad 2 when I then open Safari.
All Music automatically stops playing, it's like background Multi-tasking doesn't work for listening to music and using safari at the same time. Is this the same for everyone using iOS 5.0.1 on ipad2?
Any advice would help. This is driving me nuts!
    Thanks,
    Tanja

I can't offer much. I'm typing this in Safari on my iPad2 while listening to music from the Music app.
Try restarting or resetting your iPad as explained in iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
BTW, most Apple support documents lately give a "file not found when" using a link, but load correctly when  you reload the url.

  • Multi tasking with 5800 xm

    hi everybody ...
the nokia 5800 xpress music advertises  the ability to multi task, i.e. to run several features at once ... on my phone this seems to work fine, until it comes to run anything together with nokia maps ... is it at all possible to run other features (e.g. the music player) together with maps? ...
    thx for your help ...

It is possible to run several apps at once on your phone, but due to limited memory and processor power it will depend on which you use. Maps, Music and Video are the heaviest users of processor power on the phone, also Music and Maps somewhat counter act each other as you don't want music covering Nav directions and vice versa, when I was using N97 I used to kill everything on the phone before I used maps.
One solution may be to install Ramblow and close everything to gain maximum Ram before starting maps and then maybe open another app afterwards, but I wouldn't use Navigation and the music player together !
    Good Luck

  • Shot down the app during multi tasking

I'm a pioneer user of iPad.
When it was revealed, I bought iPad for business.
But it made me upgrade to iPad2 due to no camera in hand.
It was a great time for me using iPad for business, email, maps and other useful apps.
From apple maps substitutes the google maps, my disappointment against apple was begun.
Finally, I was pushed to upgrade to iOS7.0, my business tools were changed entirely bad.
iOS7.0 crashes the app frequently. During multi-tasking.
Once I sign in at Skype and fly to safari for checking something, I have to sign in again at Skype.
Besides, I have to wait till booting the safari entirely.
Before upgrading iOS7.0, I haven't experienced this dull and lazy booting at all.
Hope apple restore as it was.

  • HT4211 Do the multi-tasking apps use up a LOT more user MB's?

Does multi-tasking apps cause you to use a LOT more user MB's?  If so, can I make it stop?  I have been triple charged by my service provider by email messages and did not even know anything was running?
    Please help.

Double-clicking the Home button displays a list of recently used apps. These apps are not necessarily actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. They will instantly launch when you return to them. Certain tasks or services can continue to run in the background.

Recently I cannot multi task while talking on the phone. eg. connect to facebook, itune, whatassp. I can do multi task last time. pls help !

If your carrier is CDMA (such as verizon in the USA) you won't be able to talk on the phone and use data/internet stuff at the same time. It's a limitation of the technology... Not sure if that helps or not. What carrier are you with?

  • An easy way to quit all multi-tasked apps at once?

Running the SpeedTest app here in Japan I noticed the 3G data speeds improved dramatically (especially upload speeds) after one-by-one quitting all my multi-tasked apps and then restarting SpeedTest by itself.
I had like 20+ apps going at the time. Most of them were probably not contributing to the problem, but still, I don't know which ones.
Anyway, my question is, is there an easy way to force all the apps in the multi-task drawer to quit without one-by-one holding each icon down and pressing the "-" mark?
    Thanks,
    doug

That's an informative article, Johnathan. Thanks.
It still doesn't quite explain what I was seeing though.
With all the apps in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds were incomprehensibly slow. Doing a full restart didn't help. This is a critical point.
Yet when I got rid of all the entries in the hidden dock my 3G data speeds went up to somewhat respectable speeds again. In particular, what appeared to be an upload cap of 64 kbps disappeared and I was seeing upload speeds of about 800 kbps using SpeedTest.
So how to explain that? Just coincidence? Could it be that since that some apps, when the iPhone restarts, do start doing some things in the background again?
There should be some logical explanation for what I am seeing.
And I guess the answer to my original question is there is no way to remove all the apps in the hidden doc at once, is there?
    Thanks,
    doug

Thanks for your solution, it wasn't quite what solved the problem but i remembered that i had a bit of salt water on my phone recently and spraying the charging port with an anti-oxide spray solved my problem, do you mind if i ask, how is the charging port related with the volume or/and speakers?

  • What are your impressions of "multi-tasking"?

If you have iOS4 and a capable device, you should have multi-tasking and opened apps appearing in the task bar. Newer app versions are able to run in the background. In my opinion, when I close most apps (by pressing the home button), I want them to close completely, not run in the background. Aside from being a privacy issue, apps in the task bar may use battery power or if truly in a suspended mode, they still take up memory or process capability. In order to really shut them down, two additional home button clicks and then two more screen strokes are required. Not very efficient and probably leading to an earlier home button failure. Why not have some kind of screen command (tap or swipe combination?) to simultaneously shut down all apps in the task bar? The bar itself is useless if you have used many apps in the course of a day. To find what you're looking for, you have to scroll through a long parade of icons. It's a lot easier to just tap the icon where you know it is sitting in the nice folder you created. I don't get it. I realize the bar can be used for switching open apps, but this is really not that big of a deal for the vast majority of apps. Furthermore, there should be an option to enable or disable multi-tasking globally as well as for individual apps. Now that would be an improvement.
    What are your thoughts?

I havent done any kind of multitasking on my ipod touch, im waiting to upgrade my software to the newer one. However, I couldnt agree more with that of pressing the home button many times to perform basic function to switch apps or enable the multitasking ability. I think palm adapted a better design of software than apple ever did with their IOS 4. Palm's webOS can handle full multitasking--something the iPhone can't do. Palm uses what it calls "a deck of cards model" for managing multitasking: You can view each of your open applications at once, shuffle them any way you choose, and then discard the ones you want to close. All of this is done with intuitive gestures that mimic handling a physical deck of cards. Apps remains live, even when minimized into the card view, so changes can continue to happen in real-time, even if you've moved on to another activity.
I had the time to experience a bit of a palm web os software on an AT&T store and my impression on that software is done more elegantly than apple multitasking home pressing button system.
P.S to NYtroutbum: you should definitely present that idea to apple by its feedback product page. Let's hope it listens.
