Multi-tasking while importing, exporting, encoding, burning, etc, etc.
Am I in any way endangering my project if I use the mac for other functions like being online, receiving email, wordprocessing, etc, while my IDVD project is busy encoding assets, and getting ready to burn, or burning dvds?
I ask because my experience with IMovie is that I need to be disconnected from everything else--the internet, even my printer/fax/copier/scanner when working on a project or horrible stuttering occurs. The stuttering will eventually happen regardless after I have enough extracted audio and audio edits in the project (it doesn't seem to like that), but at least I can put off working around that when disconnected.
It has been taking about 7-8 hours to create a disk image of a 90-minute project and I've been afraid to use the computer for anything else lest the virtual dvd gets screwed up with stuttering or slow motion audio.
Any suggestions??
Thanks a lot.

In theory, you should be able to do anything while running a non-realtime application (like iDVD). If there are side-effects, it is because there are bugs. The only thing you would do is slow the application down by contending for resources (like memory or the disk). If the application is written properly, you should not notice problems. I quite often will work on something else while processing a DVD. Typically, I am working on something else in iMovie for a different DVD. I have not noticed problems.
Now, iMovie is a different application because it does involve some realtime operations. Anytime you are importing video from or exporting video to a device then you do not want to slow the application down. If your machine is fast enough, you might get away with it. But I wouldn't recommend that. If you are exporting DV to the disk or extracting audio, there shouldn't be any reason why you can't work on the computer at the same time. I do it all the time and don't notice any problems.
Again, just because you can do it, doesn't mean you won't experience issues. These are bugs that need to be reported. As always, write your DVD to a disk image just in case something happens. Mac OS is supposed to be an OS where an app crash doesn't affect anything else, but I wouldn't want to live by that. Most of the time I let iDVD run by itself because I just don't have enough to do for the amount of time that it runs.

Getting an error while importing/exporting the universe from my BO Designer
Hi,
I am facing a issue while importing/exporting the universe from my BO Designer to the Server. The error is mentioned below.
'File Repository Server Input is down'
Once I click the OK button on this error message, it displays the message
'Could not import the Universe'.
I tried the check the status of the File Repository Server (Ouput and Input) and also the of the Root Directory on the Physical Server and also my machine. They all have read-write access.
Installed Version of the Universe Designer Client: Business Object XI Release 2 SP3
Installed Version of the BO Enterprise Server: Business Object XI Release 2 SP2
Can you please help me to resolve the issueHi,
The step you have mentioned may not be applicable to my issue as one of my colleagues can import/export the universe from the same server
The second thing is that a DB2 Client v9 is installed on both mine and my colleagues system. The Designer software can recognise the DB2 drivers on his system but it cannot recognise the same drivers on my system.I even checked the versions of the BO software installed on his and my system and they are same.
The only difference is that his machine is a Windows XP Machine and mine is a Network Desktop.
Will any of the above two things will affect the operation of the BO Designer.
Thanks

Recently I cannot multi task while talking on the phone. eg. connect to facebook, itune, whatassp. I can do multi task last time. pls help !
If your carrier is CDMA (such as verizon in the USA) you won't be able to talk on the phone and use data/internet stuff at the same time. It's a limitation of the technology... Not sure if that helps or not. What carrier are you with?

Import/export of contacts, calendar etc.
Hi,
I am in the process of transferring my data from my old Nokia to my new BB9900. I hope that the current version of the Desktop Software is something like version -1, because I consider it totally inadequate. I would expect that this software provides means to export/import contact and other data. This would allow to edit/update these data using more comfortable tools of my Mac instead of typing in any changes in my BB. However, nothing like this is available.
Furthermore, when backing up contact, calendar etc. is is rather nontransparent what's going on. The program seems to ignore the selection "calendar" or anything else and simply saves everything to my Mac. And this - see above - in a proprietary format which does not allow further use of these data.
Yes, this message addresses someone responsible @ rim. Simply for the fact that the site www.blackberry.com does not provide a link to "contacts" were one could send such complaints.
Regards - Bob

How do I keep formatting while importing/exporting from/to excel using Numbers for Ipad
I have an excel file that I export to Numbers on my Ipad. The problem is I lose all of my formatting. I use a lot of linking cells in the excel version of the file. And even when I work on the Numbers version of the file and put in the pop up menus, I lose those when I export to excel. Is there any way to keep this formatting when exporting/importing?
Thanks for the help.Migintosh, I hadn't thought of that, but turns out that is my problem. I seems when I place the file, indesign in automatically changing those values. Is there a way to force indesign keep those at 0 (or whatever value I want) as I place the text? Right now, what happens is I place the text and then have to select all and manually set the before and after to 0 since indesign decides to change the after spacing to 0.1389.

I have had multiple crashes with iphoto 9.4.2 on my Mac OSX- 10.7.5 while importing, exporting and --most infurating of all-- while editing. Upon restart all photos were lost - that is there is record of the event but no photos show up in that space. I have had reimport them multiple times. But upon reimporting, iphoto seems to think they are still there and asks me if I want duplicates made.

IMOVIE 6 won't recognize DV camera while IDVD is encoding or burning
I am in the process of encoding and burning a dvd in idvd 6. Given the length of this process, I want to also import some video into an imovie 6 project. However, while idvd is encoding, imovie won't recognize my camera.
I understand I can stop idvd, but then will I lose the encoding that has already occurred?
Will imove recognize the camera if I launch idvd after beginning the import into imovie?
Is there a software fix that will prevent idvd from monopolizing the firewire port when it is just encoding video from an imovie project?
This is a very irritating conflict given the time encoding takes in idvd.
Thanks,
Knapper
Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)As Sue suggests, it's not surprising that iDVD doesn't want you to access the camera with iMovie. It's not unusual for applications that perform FireWire-intensive functions—as both iDVD and iMovie do—to want to control the device. If iDVD can't control the camera, it may not be able to perform a task you want it to do. (Remember, iDVD offers several camcorder-dependent functions, including OneStep DVDs.)
While it may be a bit treacherous, you CAN go behind iDVD's back to get it done. The trick is to grab control of the camera before iDVD does. So Quit iDVD after you create, then save the iDVD project, then grab control of the camera with an iMovie HD project, THEN re-open the iDVD project and start encoding. (I tested exporting the iDVD project to a disk image, which is probably safer than burning a physical DVD. Use Disk Utility later to burn the disk image to a physical DVD.)
The iMovie video looked fine here, but your mileage may vary.

Error while importing the export in new environment
All,
I have getting AIP-11052: Writing following objects: Transport Protocol Parameter failed due to following constraint violation: TRANSPORTPROTOCOLPARAMETER_UK. UNIQUE CONSTRAINT VIOLATION
while importing the export. Has anyone encountered this issue? or Can anyone provide pointers as to why this might be occuring?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
DipalHello Dipal,
The erros seems to be because of some UNIQUE key constraint issue while importing the export. This may be due to some conflicting import data which is causing this voilation. If it is a possibility, please purge the entire repository and have a clean import or else please analyse the UI log to find some more details.

How to pass import/export parameters while event handler call in OOABAP?
Hi Experts,
Is it possible to use export parameter in set handler method?
Actually my requirement is while creating customer through XD01 after committing to data base i want that customer.
So i exporting customer no. in one of the badi before commit and importing in my custom class (zabc) after commit.
Using event TRANSACTION_FINISHED and checking KIND eq C.
My question is instead of using import export abap command is it possible to pass those parameters in ??
Sample : SET HANDLER zcl_sd_after_commit=>get_kunnr.
Regards,
Raj....Yes it can
but the event should be defined in the BADI so why do you need to do it?

IMusic v10 won't play while importing CD and won't burn MP3
I upgraded my iMusic to v10 when I hooked up my new iPod. Now I find that a new CD won't play while importing and the new software is preventing me from burning new MP3 versions of the music I have imported. Help!!!

Do you mean iTunes?
Now I find that a new CD won't play while importing
Has been this way for a while.
and the new software is preventing me from burning new MP3 versions of the music I have imported.
You can only burn an MP3 CD if you have created an MP3 version of the file. iTunes does not and has never created MP3 files on the fly when burning an MP3 CD.
If you import as AAC (the default), you must first create an MP3 then add the MP3 to a playlist and burn the MP3 playlist.
