Multi-Vocals same voice - How would you do them?

I am recording some projects that would benefit from me doing a few different vocal takes on particular parts. Some doubling, some harmonies.
I was having some difficulty in certain parts getting them to blend nicely. Since the voice is exactly the same, it is super easy in most parts. I have tried using different microphones, different distances. Does anyone have any other suggestions for layering the same vocalist on top of themselves?

Well, the different mic, different distance can help. Unfortunately, the same voice IS the same voice, and if you want different vocal textures, you really should seek out other vocalists, because nothing comes close to a fabricated version of that.
One thing that may help though, is to shelve off a lot of the low end of the other voices, particularly if they are background parts in nature. Anything below 300 Hz or even a bit higher can place those voices a bit more in the background, without competing or eating up all the frequencies the lead vocal will have. This is especially true if all the overdubs were done close mic'd.
Even a double can benefit greatly from losing a lot of the low end. Sometimes trimming it at 500, gives the double a really thin sound, that, by itself, seems really "tinny", or radio-like, but tucked underneath the main lead vocal adds a lot of depth and dimension. You hear the double, but not at the expense of losing the focus on the lead.
Most other FX on vocals tend to sound to trendy for my tastes, and actually end up cluttering things more than helping. In VERY small doses, perhaps, but beyond that, no thanks.

Use the file as an InputStream to read the data and then use an OutputStream to write the file.
The logic is the same as reading and writing a file from disk once you have the InputStream.

Flashback time is 24 hours:120GIG of flashback space in avg
Local backup. Full database copy, then incremental is the preferred method.
That way, if a datafile goes bezerk, replace with backup datafile then recover.
Or if only a few corrupt block, block recover with rman.
BTW: Backup is done locally first, then send to another server, than on tape.
Archivelogs is duplexed on another server.

16 GIG RAM
2 * 64 bit CPU's
2 * local 300G/15rpm disks

How would you find the pitch period of a sound signal?

I have a few questions and i would like if somebody could help me even with the smallest comment on this.
How would someone be successfully estimate the pitch period (fundamental frequency) of a 5 second sound file?How would you successfully distinguish the voiced from the unvoiced parts and how would you make sure you dont mix voiced/unvoiced sections? Finally how can you find the exact points where the pitch is at its peak throughout the signal?

After some thought I think I may have come up with an algorithm for what we have discussed. Basically, you are interested in knowing the time intervals over which you can observe any given frequency in your signal. As you had suggested, you can examine small windows of your signal and perform FFTs on each of the small windows to determine what frequency content is contained in that window. By examining all of the windows, you will see when particular frequencies are prevalent in the original signal. You'd want to use the smallest allowable window to give you the most resolution, but one that is large enough to cover an entire period of the lowest frequency (so that you don't miss this frequency).
I have attached an example program that performs this operation. The example performs this analysis on an array that represents audio data. I am basically performing multiple FFTs (for each window) and stacking these FFTs in time to form a 3D plot. By examining the 3D plot, I can then see when in time my frequencies of interest are at their peaks. Rather than graphing these plots, you may work out a different algorithm for programmatically determining and logging these peaks and times. I hope this is what you were looking for!

How would you implement equals ()

For complex classes with many data members, my dilema is:
1. equals should return true only if all fields of the two objects are
equals.
2. equals should return true if the key(s) of the two objets are equal.
For instance, we have the Class Person, that contains dozens of

If two entities have equal keys, they should be considered to be equal. Otherwise the attributes you call keys are in the fact normal attributes and no keys.

VI Analyzer - How Would You Configure It for This Use Case?

My group has different people working on different LVPROJs for each software deliverable we have. Each LVPROJ uses our user.libs and instr.libs, as well as an overall "framework" that is the same for most LVPROJs.
I really think the VI Analyzer toolkit would be powerful for code reviews, but only if I can configure it in a way where which tests I run and what the criteria are can be saved and used on any project. I can't seem to get this to work for me. I want to save all those configurations, and use it on new LVPROJs easily - the easier I can make this process, the more inclined others will be to use this for code review. How would you do it? (if it's even feasible)

I suggest creating a .cfg file without a project linkage, but with all the tests selected and configured as you want...so a .cfg file with no "Items to Analyze" specified. Then, when working on an individual project, open that CFG file, add the project's top-level folder to the analysis, then save that CFG file with that project. This means you can't have the project linkage in your CFG file, but assuming your project is all within some top-level folder, that shouldn't be much of an issue, since the CFG file will be "linked" at that point to the top-level folder containing your project.

is there any way i can stop the pop-up box displaying to open pdf file in sharepoint document library? Right now whenever i am trying to open pdf file, asking "how would you like to open" Read only or edit mode. currently MIME Type is setup
but still pop-up message box.

As far as I know, This is a default feature. and is not recommended to delete or deactivate this pop up.
This is a feature of office and there is a dll called owssupp.dll which is responsible for getting the popup to open.
You can go to IE tools> addon settings and deactivate the above dll (sharepoint open document class). But if you do so, then the other office office files which are word/excel/pptx etc.. would aslo gets affected and they also wont get the popup.

Shouldn't "a*" accept all files that begins with "a" and ends with whatever?No. "*" in regexp is a not a wildcard match. Instead it matches one or more instances of the preceeding
value.
Therefore "a*" will match "a", "aa", "aaa", "aaaa" etc but will not match anything which does not end in
an "a".
The following might help you out. (not the most elegent expression but it will do

How would you pass more than 255 args?

I have an SFTP program that currently is only passed a single file. I am modifying it so that it will loop though an array of files to simulate an mput command. Originally I was just going to call the program with each file to be transferred as an argument but noticed the 255 argument limit. I am looking at potentially having 1500 - 2000 files to transfer at one time. I am just looking for advice on how this should be designed. One idea that was forwarded to me was to just create a listing of the files on the server and use that list file as my argument. Would this be the best approach for this issue?

It does die at 255 using Java 1.5.Like I said, arguments to a method are thus limited. But the args passed to an app are passed to main as one argument - an array. In short, that article is not relevant to your problem.

How would you split a 10 GB root partition? Would you?

The system seems to be booting a little slow lately (been using Arch for more than a year now) and I was thinking of splitting the root partition to improve performance.
Right now the entire OS is on a single partition. I don't have a /home partition but I can see it's usefulness:
- files on /home are, in general, more frequently written (browser cache especially), which means less fragmentation for the root partition
- having a noexec flag for /home so no potentially dangerous software will run from there (and why would you need to run software from /home?)
- my /var folder takes up 102 MB, 9.706 files in 4.846 folders. Is there a filesystem that will deal well with many small files ? ReiserFS maybe ?
So how would you split (gigabyte-wise) a 10 GB partition into /, /home and /var ? And would you ? I've been told from the IRC channel that it makes zero sense. At least not for desktop use.
PS: I'm also switching from i686 to x86_64, so please take that into account as well. For instance I noticed that 64 bit software usually takes up more space than 32 bit.
