Multicam audio

I'm a long time user of FCP 7 but I'm new to FCP X.  I've now spent two days searching tutorials and help pages for an answer to no avail.
I'm running a small studio where we're doing many, many on-set three camera interviews (Cam 1, Cam 2 and Cam 3).  All the audio is on the interviewee's camera - Cam 3.
I'm good with creating multicam clips, I'm good with designating all the audo from Cam 3 and I'm good with selecting "Video Only" so I'm just cutting the video between Cams 1, 2 and 3 while keeping the audio from Cam 3 throughout.
My problem is that although the Cam 3 audio is continuous, there's a break in the track every time I switch video between Cams 1, 2 and 3.  That makes it time consuming to adjust audio levels.
My work around has been  detaching the audio from Cam 3.  Works great but as I edit the interviews it introduces the possibility of messing up my audio synch.  What am I doing wrong?
TIA,
Peter

My problem is that I'm checkerboarding a discussion; lowering the level on the person who isn't speaking when they're silent.  Changes to volume aren't likely to be global but to follow the back and forth of the discussion.  Someone who's excited might interject at a high volume then lower that volume when they have the floor.  That adjustment in volume often spans a cut from one camera to another.  Ideally, the audio track would be continuous and not chopped up into little pieces.  I'm beginning to think that the only solution is to detach the audio.

  • CC 2014 multicamera audio problems

    Hi everyone!
I read about some problems with multicamera but in this new version (CC 2014) is the first time I worked in multicamera and I'm having some trange problems with audio, and I dont know if it is a bug or something.
I´m in a full HD 29,97 project with 3 cameras and because some audio effects and have in the source 2 audio tracks. In this áudio tracks I have some fade in/outs and
most of the time just to normalize gain. I mean that somethimes theres is a "contínuos cut" in same track or not.
When in multicamera mode, select main áudio (1 track result from the source 2 tracks) and after finish I insert some vídeo in some places and did some cuts.
The problem is that when playing the final multicamera the áudio (that I didnt cut or edit) is no the same, in some situations, that is in the souce timeline.
Per example, in source there is a situation with the end a playback music (áudio track 2) and when another clip came with somebody talking (áudio track 1).
To reduce the cut evidence I "cross" the sounds with fade out (track 2) and a fade in (track 1) and at the source timeline everything fine. But in multicamera timeline
that point of the áudio result in more "áudio" that dont belong to that point. In this example is a fade out/ fade in 30 frames crossed in diferente timelines and other sounds appear. Very strange!!!
I did some test and if I just eliminate de fades the sound in multicamera is ok but notice that was a cut sound. So, I think that the fade in and fade outs in multicamera
are the main responsables for this problem that apparently is some bug, dont you think?
Now I have this problem to export with almost to hours and there are many situations like that one I refer like an example.
Someone had this problem and know what is wrong?

  • CS5 MultiCam audio

Happy with working MultiCam editing in CS5 (fully up to date under Win7 Pro 64), but have run into an issue with getting the sound I want.
I have two cameras synced up in the source sequence.  Coverage by two cameras is not continuous, but there is always at least one on the go.
My master sound camera (Audio 2) starts after a couple of minutes of useful footage from the other, so I want Audio 1 for a short while, then Audio 2 - with freedom to change picture camera independently of the audio switch.
With no audio on Audio 2 at the start of the source timeline, I could not get the audio to switch to Audio 2 anywhere during the MultiCam edit.  When I copied and pasted audio into the start of the source Audio 2 track, subsequent MultiCam editing worked as expected.  Is this a known issue/bug?
In trying a workaround, I set up a submix track in the source sequence, but then found that there was no way to reference the submix in the MultiCam sequence.  Do those who use MultiCam more than I do have any thoughts in this area?  Is it worth a feature request?
Or is all the above down to finger trouble?

    Thanks for the replies.
I solved my problem by backfilling track 2 to the start of the source sequence, which then allowed me to successfully select Track 2 in the multicam sequence.  This suggests that davidbeisner2010  in the first reply is not describing accurately what happens in CS5.
I would still like to see the multicam sequence include an option to take a submix from the source and will be submitting a feature request to that effect and also to suggest that audio track swapping in the multicam sequence is facilitated separately from the pictures.  This would give much more flexibility in dealing with multicam edits.

  • Ineffective Multicam Audio Sync in PPro CC (PluralEyes wins every time)

I was excited to try the multicam sync using audio in Premiere CC but unfortunately I've found that it has very limited success. I regularly run shoots of 4 cameras with each having several clips, and when I try to sync them in Premiere only a few actually get syncronized. PluralEyes still does a markedly better job and sync all the clips, not just a few. Any tips or tricks I'm missing?

For starters, PP will only sync one clip per track, so if you wish to use this feature, you'll need to shoot continuously, no stopping until the event is over.
Secondly, the feature doesn't seem to work very well (at all?) when including a separate audio track in the mix, so use video clips only.
Thirdly, it is a new feature for Premiere Pro, and will likely get better over time.

  • Multicam audio levels/meters??? - Premiere CS6

Is there a way to see the audio meters while in the multicam window?
The audio plays fine but is there really no way to monitor the audio to see if its peaking or not, or what level its at, unless I stop the multicam and play it in the timeline?
All the source clips, all the timeline clips, all the project window clips all enable the audio levels/meters.
Why not the multicam? Seems odd.

Audio is the other half of what editors deal with so I kinda do need to worry about it.
Agreed.  Just not from the MC window, but from the sequence where you can actually make changes and adjust things.
Then why do the audio meters work when playing clips in the project window? Yes, the sequence is where changes are made but being able to monitor what a clip looks like or sounds like outside of the timeline is essential to any good NLE. It's not editing, it's monitoring. Just an oversight on Premiere Pro's design that I hope they fix asap.

I'm starting to learn that you are the king of "that's not what I care about so it must not be important".
It's actually more often a "how can I get this job done with the tools and features that are available to me right now" kind of attitude.
While that's a practical approach and certainly one that will cut down on stress, that's also the mindset that allowed for companies like RIM (Blackberry) to fall behind their competitors. I prefer a more "work with what you've got but if something's missing or broken, speak up" approach.  My hope is that the PPro design team actually listens to their users to make it better. We all have things we wish would improve or be fixed and if we all just said "eh, it is what it is" then nothing would ever improve. I'm more of a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it...but if it is, then stop making excuses and fix it". I know the absence of something as simple as audio meters doesn't mean mulitcam is broken, but its an example of an oversight on the part of Premiere's design team that I hope they fix. It's a very simple feature. Every other NLE I've worked with has it. It helps the workflow especially with long multicam sequences. There's no reason it shouldn't work like it does if you play a clip anywhere else. Now its just a matter of if they care enough to fix it.
Truthfully, I was hoping it was just a glitch with my computer and someone was going to chime in and say "it works for me" and I'd have to re-install or something and then it would work. But I guess not. We all work with the tools and features that are available to us right now, but if adding a functionality that should have been there from the beginning can speed up my workflow then I'll gladly be the squeeky wheel.

  • Adjust multicam audio phase/timing

    Hi All
I do lots of multicam concerts, and don't have genlock or timeslave on my cameras. Therefore the audio in my multicam sequences is often out of sync by a fraction of a frame. About half the time, this creates a noticeable "phase" effect when I mix audio from two or more cameras. Is there a way I can nudge the timing of the audio on one track by a fraction of a frame, in order to eliminate the effect? A similar phenomenon occurs on audio from a single camera, when the audio is coming through different sources (e.g. A1 from a wireless on stage, passing through a mixer, alongside A2 from a shotgun, wired straight into the camera). I'd really like to pull this off without a round-trip to Audition. (I am using
    PrPro CS6 on Win7)
    Thanks!
    Eric D - CoralVision

If you check Show Audio Time Units in the sequence flyout menu, you will be able to nudge audio clips at the sample level.

  • Multicam - audio track not indicating source

In CS6 I could keep track of which audio track I was using in a multi-cam edit by the indicators on the audio part of the clip - MC1, MC2 etc
This is no longer a part of CC, only the video component shows the camera source.
Is there any way of getting the indicators back on the audio?
Multicam in CC does do some odd things occasionally with audio, changing the audio source sometimes even though I have 'multi-camera audio follows video' deselected

If you're talking about the source select tabs, in order for them to show there has to be a clip with audio loaded in the Viewer window.

  • Multicam - Audio DOES NOT follow video

    Hi Guys,
I have read in some posts that some of you have this problem, but I have not been able to find a solution which anyone has posted.
    Problem:
I am doing a multicam edit with 2 video and 2 audio. After nesting the sequence and turning on Multicamera, I goto the MultiCamera Window, then I select Audio Follows Video, and the result should be that, If I select Cam1, Audio1 should be playing, and if I select Cam 2, Audio 2 should play, but somehow, no matter which cam I select, only Audio 1 plays.
    Any help on this?
    Spec:
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0
    Win 7

Yes I did read that part harm, but that would mean I have to have all audio in one track, which defeats the purpose of having multicam in the first place.
Well anyway, I also read that CS3 has this problem, not sure if its fixed. Anyone having this problem also?

  • Multicam Audio Sync Open in Timeline

Hi everyone. I will try to keep this simple.
I have a 2 camera setup, each with audio plus one external audio track. (3 total audio tracks)
When I create a multicam source sequence I sync via audio. I then open the source sequence in the timeline to make sync adjustments. However, it only plays back audio from Track 1. When I place this source sequence on a multicam Target sequence, I get all of the audio tracks to play.
My question is "Can I not get all of the audio tracks to play when I click "Open in Timeline"?"
I've been reading on this all day and can't seem to get anywhere.
    Thanks for your help.

If you want all audio at once, after you multi cam audio, you'll have to alt\opt+leftclick+drag the audio down below the master to duplicate it (do this once for every Camera).  You then do the alt\opt+rightclick, go to multi cam and select a different camera for each of the tracks.  Now all audio will play.
NOTE: With one track you can cut through with razor, and switch cams where you cut.  If you cut your multi cam the automatic style, cuts will be made in audio track as well, that line up with video switch.  You can adjust these edit marks to your desire the same way you would when using trim or roll, and you could switch Cameras from the alt\opt+rightclick menu.  Using automatic mode to cut video, you will cut all LINKED audio at the same point.  You can apply this to multiple tracks by linking them all to the video track before you start your camswitching.  Afterward, you could adjust, delete, trim, roll and switch through your audio to your hearts content.

  • Multicam audio sync problem

I have three MiniDV tapes that I put together into a multicam shot. About 15 minutes into the video the audio slips - it begins to lag behind the video. I am only using one of the audio lines. The video and the audio appear to be in sync for the entire hour of the multicam shots in clip window. I tried taking 15 minutes as one clip, then another 15 minutes, and so to let it resync, but it starts slipping right away.
    Any suggestions?

When using the multicam, any recommendations on keeping the audio lined up with the video? Would it help to separate the audio from the video and mute the multicam?

  • Multicam audio disappeared!

So I had a short multicam project put together. 2 cameras with audio from a Tascam audio recorder. Set the multicam file to read the clip from the Tascam as the main audio stream. All good. That is until I double clicked the multicam file, added some gain, and adjusted the settings of the audio file. I thought this would simply modify all the cuts of the multicam file in my main project, but instead FCPX removed all the audio in the main project, waveforms and all. I can re-assign a different audio stream, and that shows up, but if I assign the Tascam file, all audio is gone. Ive tried reverting away from the changes I made to the audio settings and effects to no avail.
Any ideas how to reverse this?

Found the issue.  Some how when I was modifying the audio track within the multicam clip, the audio itself got moved to the movie track directly above it.  So, instead of audio being in the track labeled Tascam 032, it was on the track labeled MVI_3670.  Don't know how it happened, because I couldn't move the audio back down to Tascam 032.
Either way.  Found out.  Fixed.  Done.  If it happens to someone else, take a look at the tracks.

  • Multicam audio noob question

Hello great sages of editing.  I seek council and wisdom from your vast wells of knowledge that I have been unable to find the answers to on my own.
I am extremely ignorant of most of the features that Premiere can do but I only need it to do simple editing.  I've found enough tutorials on the web to let me do what I nead but I have one issue I'm currently struggling to solve.
So I've got 4 videos that I'm editing as a multicam video but the audio is staying on camera 1.  When I made the multicam video I told it for the audio to use the Switch Audio option and according to my google-fu that SHOULD have the audio jumping with each video, but it's not.  So um... can anyone help the retarded puppy find the button to make it work?  The video is being cut right, it's just the audio that isn't.

This only works if you create the multicam sequence the original (and still superior) way - manually.
    1. Create a sequnce.
    2. Add you clips and sync manually.
    3, Create a second sequence.
    4. Nest that first sequence into the second.
    5. Right click on the nested sequence and select Multi-Camera>Enable

  • Multicam audio issues

I've watched a 30mins tutorial of 12-year-old kid and searched these forums pluss adobes own tutorials for help but no luck.
I'm editing a GTA video with me and two other friends perspective, so 3 in total. I made a Multicam for those 3 views following
adobes own tutorials on how to do this in Premiere CS6.
The annoying problem is that when I change from Camera 1 to camera 2 or 3 their audio is gone. ONLY Camera 1 has audio.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get the audio from "camera 2" to be active when viewing "camera 2", and "camera 3 have the audo when i'm viewing "camera 3"!?
I honestly can't figure out how and WHY this is like this, it makes no sense at all.
    Thanks... maybe.

  • Multicam audio dropped

I have a three minute video with two cameras. Audio plays all the way through in FCX but after sending through Compressor the audio is dropped for the first 54 seconds, and after that plays fine. I can't see any difference in the clips. I have some background music that is playing through the whole three minutes. Audio is from cameras. I exported to ProRes 422 but then also tried a couple of others with the same result. Any ideas?

I've seen two similar problems (one of which is mine) in the Compressor discussion threads involving lost audio when sending multicam projects to Compressor:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18301145#18301145
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18299872#18299872
One problem was resolved by exporting a DV file from FCP X, then importing that file into Compressor, rather than sending directly to Compressor from FCP X.
For me, the audio problem didn't manifest until I added chapter marks in Compressor and burned a DVD. I'm now missing audio at the beginning and end of my DVD, though I do have about 13 minutes of audio in the middle. I don't have a fix yet, but I'm trying again with a reduced average VBR for the MPEG-2 settings in Compressor to see if that helps.

  • Premiere CC Multicam Audio sync

New user of Pr CC with limited previous editing experience.  Attempting to audio sync 2 clips that I have edited to the same time frame.  It is mainly talking.  When I try to sync using the audio function camera 2 is about 5 seconds behind c1.  When I attempt to mark the clips to the correct visual spot the marked clip options is not selectable.
Could someone point me in the correct direction to enable the audio sync to work right or to be able to select the marked sync function.  Would it work to put a distinct noise in the audio at the correct location?
My head is getting sore from the various ways I have tried.
    Thanks
    Richard

    Hi flyboymowry,
Sometimes syncing via audio doesn't always work, so you can sync clips by marking In, Out, or by using markers. More here: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/editing-multi-camera-sequences1.html#id_78669
    Thanks,
