Multicam Editing Using a Ripple edit

I am new to FCP. I have a 2 camera shoot of a wedding ceremony. I have my camera angles on the timeline. I have decided that in one instance that neither camera angle provided an acceptable shot so I want to shorten the sequence. How do I do a ripple edit and keep everything in sync?

Absolutely correct. You do not need to blade anything. If the autoselect buttons are enabled for these tracks and NOTHING IS SELECTED IN THE TIMELINE, do as you described, mark an in and out and hit shift-delete.
To confirm that you have everything setup correctly before you hit shift-delete, hit option-a and you will select the area between the ins and outs in whatever tracks have the autoselect button inabled.
This is not to say that creativestuff's method will not work. It does work, but there are many ways to skin the proverbial cat.

In C3 Ripple Edit tool doesn't delete frames when using a Dissolve

In Premire Pro C3 when I use the Ripple Edit tool to delete frames between two scenes in the Time Line, it looks like the frames have been deleted when previewing or playing the edit. However, if you then place a Cross Disolve Video Transition over the edit and then play the result, you can clearly see all of the frames you deleted playing under the disolve. What's up? How do you get the Ripple Edit to really take or is this a software bug?

You are running up against a lack of Handles in your Clip. See this ARTICLE for more details and background on Handles. Just reset your In & Out Points for the Clips in question, to create more Frames for Handles.

Ripple edit

Okay, here goes: I created a project with clips of multiple lacrosse games with the intent on producing a highlight/recruiting video. Each clip was between 5 and 20 seconds. On track two, I placed a graphic arrow that, using keyframes followed the player for identification. The arrow has a 15 frame dissolve transition on the front and back. On track three, I placed text identifying the player by name and number in the bottom left side of the clips. This also had the same transitions. Neither the arrow, nor the text were as long as the clips. They both started after the clip began playing and both finished (at different times) before the clip concluds. I do not have any transitions between any of the clips. A generic music clip(s) was laid under all of the clips.
Here is my problem. During one session, I mistakenly used on clip twice. When I discovered the duplicate, I tried to use a ripple edit (shift-delete). I thought (and hoped) everything would shift to the left and keep everything in sync. I don't care about the music, but the subsequent arrows with their keyframes shifted sync. Now the arrow does not follow the player. I've tried "delete-shift" deleting using the clip first, then by "delete-shift" deleting the arrow and then the text first. Nothing give me the desired result. How can I eliminate this one clip, while retaining all of the "syncing" of the subsequent clips, arrows and text? Is is possible, or do I have to re-keyframe all of the subsequent clips?

Not sure I'm reading this carefully enough, but if you lock the music track, and there's no other material under the section you're deleting, when you delete it, everything should stay in synch.

Why do I get a slash mark through the icon for the ripple edit?

I have a problem using the ripple edit in CS5 since whenever I click on that icon and try to use it on the timeline, there's a slash through the icon and it doesn't seem to work.

Move it closer to the cut.

Ripple Edit - how come it doesn't adjust audio correctly ?

Can somebody help me with the ripple edit tool ?
When I use ripple edit on a portion of video, the audio does not
also adjust itself, so when I play back the video, the audio is not
in the correct place anymore.

When you use a ripple edit tool, if the tracks are not linked together, select audio and video track and you will get adjustment of both. If your audio and video are linked together you could press and hold Alt key select one of the tracks, and you will get ripple edit on only tracks, but the other will stay where its at.
If your audio or video tracks are locked up and you will perform ripple edit then all time line material will shift and after unlocking you will see at the beginning of every clip a red murk telling how far of sync you have shifted each clip time code - its no good. You will have to go to every clip and right click on every red murk and chose to "move to sync" and it is a pain.

FCP 7.0.3 ripple edit in timeline not working

FCP 7.0.3, AVCHD/proRes 422 LT, ripple edit in timeline not working. Using the ripple tool, I click on the edit point, drag the cursor to the clip and direction I want to trim but it doesn't work. pop-up says collision on V-1. Same thing when I double-click the clip to player and try to move the edit point on the scrub bar. This was functional in prior sessions. What's happening? Thx in advance.

I'm only using one (V1) track. Prior to this problem I was unable to insert edit. That problem mysteriously vanished after an unsuccessful phone support session w/ Apple failed to solve. Also when I try to insert w/transition (default cross-dissolve) the transition is applied to the opposite edit point,ie: out point of insert clip has transition instead of in point where it was applied. When I try to add transition to edit point (CMD-T) it doesn't work.
I'm slowly working around the ripple edit malfunction by using the razor tool and ripple delete (shift-delete) to trim in the timeline.

Script that implements a ripple edit?

I realize that AE is not an editor, but is there a way to script a ripple edit for all layers other than the one being adjusted? For example, let's say I have a video footage layer that has a start time somewhere in the middle of a 8 second comp, and it has a duration of only 1 second--a placeholder video. Other layers surround this placeholder video with graphical overalys, animations, effects, etc. Now, I want to swap the 1 second video for an 5 second video. Is there any way via scripting to shift the layers so that they maintain the same temporal relationship to each other in the timeline? I think what my question boils down to is if there is a script that allows for a ripple edit to occur after a video layer has been swapped for another?
I took a look at Jeff Almosol's rdShifter and it seems to do a good job of shifting around layers' in and out points. Is that the only thing out there for shifting layers?

I suppose the problem is - what is animated and what is not animated in the other layers and how do you automate how those keyframes are treated. Also how would the comp length and in/out points be affected by the swap. Also if your new clip was 5 times longer - would the other layers scale from their original inpoints or scale from an average point? (Assuming there are keyframes on them) or perhaps the keyframes would not scale.
I think there would be a lot of variables there unless you were working with the same rule day in day out.
Not exactly what u need - but I do minor editing in AFX so these help..
AED_SelectHereDown - Selects all layers under the currently selected layer, to aid with basic editing and layer sliding.Sometimes it is useful when you need to slide a large group of layers. Alt&Clicking - selects here up instead.
AED_KillDeadSpace - Searches comp and removes any space between layers by ripple editing backwards. Useful when there are accidental gaps between edits. There is an option to ‘Preserve overlaps’. This will not slide the layers back if layer B’s start comes before layer A’s outpoint. (if you have some transition operations in place). Check out the video tutorial for more clarity on this one. Alt&Click works in the opposite layer stacking order, if you work that way.
AED_AutoTrimmer -Set your time in frames using Shift+Click. Trims one selected layer to the time chosen(using work area). Then pushes the work area forward by the chosen time and leaves cursor in the centre. This allows you to slide a layer to find a good key point in the footage, then go again. Great for selecting clips quickly that need to be a specific duration and assembling a quick edit.

Hello all,
I can't open a PP project without this error message appearing:
"The preset used by one or more sequences in this project requires third-party components that could not be located. These sequences will be modified to use a custom sequence setting instead. To continue editing using the original preset, quit the application without saving the project, reinstall any third-party components that are required and reopen the project".
What I had been doing before this occurred was editing a PP project using ProRes sequences and multi-camera editing. Multi-camera was not working very well and after a few attempts to fix that I gave up and finished the job cutting 3 layers of video instead. AME refused to render the three finished sequences of over 1hr duration so rendered final videos from the PP sequences.
I tried deleting plists for AME, PP and QT, repairing disc permissions and rebooting but there was no improvement.
Client is satisfied for now but will want to come back to this job at a later date so decided to uninstall and re-install AME and PP in the hope both would be ready to work properly when needed again. AME works fine in conjunction with a different PP project but now I can't open the PP project in question without the above error message appearing.
Having searched the net it would seem that the problem may be caused by ProRes but I haven't been able to find a definitive solution for the problem. Does anyone know either:
1. How to fix this?
2. If I chose the "modified using a custom sequence setting", can I be sure that my sequences will look the same even if they don't use ProRes? The final deliverable format will be mp4 so as long as the overall look doesn't change then I can afford a change in the edit codec. It's just that with three sequences over an hour long, I don't want days of work to be ruined.
Other older PP projects of mine open and work fine.

Adobe web chat come up with a solution.
Open the PP project.
Export your sequence or project as a Final Cut Pro XML file.
Set up a new PP project.
Import the Final Cut Pro XML file.
This will get you back up an running.
Since getting back to editing this project I have found that some things will be lost or change in using XML:
You will lose position key framing, black video clips, dissolve fx, audio levels, audio dynamic fx, the ability to open a multi camera clip and change the camera view.
You will keep cut points, crop fx.
Not perfect but only took a couple of hours to save 3 days work.

First problem: You're fine. The hotter it gets, the more the fans spin up. The computer is designed so that at max load, at max fan speed, it won't overheat (unless it's obstructed by something, e.g. sitting on your bed swallowed by a comforter). It's not the best thing to keep it that toasty for days at a time, but a couple hours at a time shouldn't be a problem.
Second problem: If something in the trash won't delete, just use Secure Empty Trash and it should be fine. Since .torrent files are quite small, it should only take a couple seconds.

I am using a brand new iPad Air and a MacBook Pro with Retina and on the Computer using Adobe Digitial Edition there is no possibility to jump forward/back using the arrows in the menu. It is not possible to jump to a certain page as well. The overall speed is incredible slow to switch between pages.

Exact same problem here - Win 7, ADE V3.0. - pages wont turn unless I click on the symbol at the top RHS of screen for Full/Normal size screen after Page Up/down or a click on the contents page.
Hopefully a bug or something, and not a 'feature' :-)

How can I use Elements as Edit in in Lightroom using a Lightroom picture. I followed instructions: Photo/Add in/ and received in Elements a blanco screen instead of the picture selected in Lightroom. Please further instructions before ordering Elements 11.

I have followed instructions as follows: In Lightroom I have installed Elements under extra plug inns. (on top of the screen reference is made to Photoshop and not Photoshop 11). Under photo, cmd-e does not work since Photoshop is colored gray. As I have Elements installed under extra plug-inns this is highlighted. BUT………..Clicking that, the picture selected does NOT appear in Elements. The screen remains being empty! How can I solve this?

At this moment you can’t add pictures to a slideshow. You only can replace them.

HT2506 I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any Preview updates in the works. I find there is a problem with Preview crashing, or taking a very long time to "catch up" (spinning beachball of death) while I'm editing.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

No, not if our staff is trained to use the newest Adobe Acrobat (trainings are usually for the newest versions) and uses that to produce forms. Now the files open correctly. But what will be in some months or years? Do people working on Linux do have to print the forms then again to fill in?
So do you recommend that we stop the process of producing electronic forms and stay with paper-fill-in forms? Is that the goal of Adobe? (maybe not so clever for your "financial viability"?!?!? ... ein schuss ins eigene bein?!?!)

I can not find any way to send images to Photoshop for editing - all I can do is send them to elements editor or the premier editor. Can someone tell me how to send them to Photoshop? Thanks!

The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.
