Multicam editing with multi-track audio?

Does anyone know how to do multicam editing with multi-track audio?  Apparently, the multicam editor can only see Audio Track #1 in the Source Sequence.  I tried mixing my original audio tracks #1, #2, and #3 (submixes) to the master audio track in the Source Sequence and if I listen to the new Multicam Sequence (the nested Source Sequence) all 3 original audio tracks are there (combined), but when I go to do the multicam edit in the multicam monitor window, I"m back to just Audio Track #1 of the Source Sequence and audio tracks #2 and #3 are missing ???  Thanks for your help!

I have run the gambit of different techniques. The one that is most efficient is listed in Colin Brougham's response number 9
There's a far easier way to do this: after you sync your angles, hold down Alt/Opt and select or lasso just the video portions of the clips, and nest those. The audio stays put, but the video moves into the nest, and you can then enable Multicam on the nested sequence.
One of the best things about this is that it circumvents Premiere Pro's totally BS "Render Required Files" nonsense.
I must admit the ALT lasso tip was one of the best features I have seen. Like a revelation when I discovered it some months ago while watching a tutorial about something not related. As far as the "Rendering required files" That was kicking my but for a while doing multicam editing. If you do edit both audio and video in multicam you might find the "Rendering required files" issue. Basically the problem stems from having a lot of cuts to process at the same time both audio and video. 1080P is a huge amount of data when you multiply it by four cameras plus multiple audio cuts and effects ,(audio gain, Deessing etc.) So Pre-rendering the audio by clicking in the main sync timeline and then at the top Click Sequence/Render Audio. This takes care of the issue when you are cutting multiple tracks at once. It is a good practice to work from a main sync sequence and then copy that to a new sequence  preserving the main sequence as unchanged. I found the solution is to "render audio" only in the master sync sequence this will then pass through to all subsequent copies that are made "downstream" allowing you to easily clean up anything. If you make a mistake you can always start from the main sync sequence and not lose too much time. Takes a little bit of time to render but once that is done you can cut all tracks video and audio like butter. I have been doing a lot of 1080p multicam editing over this past year and had quite learning curve. Most of the work I do is multicam editing by choice it is much faster for me to edit this way because I am used to working in live events where we need to look at all shots at the same time make a "best choice" and keep rolling. Have fun with it!

  • Export ISO info with multi track audio

Hi, Need help with the exporting of multi channel file. I have one video track & 32 audio tracks. Apart from the original rest are translation tracks so I want to find a way to be able to add ISO information for each track so that information is saved within the file while exporting.
Exporting it in XDCAM HD 4.2.2.
    Can someone kindly help?

  • Problems with Multi Track Audio Recording

I'm having difficulties getting Logic to record multiple audio tracks. Basically, I'm using a MOTU 896HD Firewire Interface and despite setting up audio objects in the environment window to receive from the relevant inputs and assigning those to tracks it doesn't seem to allow for each wave of audio to be recorded separately.
Last night I was trying to record 4 tracks - 2 vox and 2 guitars and had no luck. On the first two tracks it was recording identical waves with both vox and guitar together of one musician. And for tracks 3 and 4 it was recording the vox and guitar of the same musician in each track, like it should have done in tracks 1 and 2. It did not record the other musician's parts at all ignoring him altogether. I just don't understand because I tested each mic and guitar to check whether it was in fact receiving audio from the source and it worked fine when getting levels but when it came to recording everything messed up.
Can any of you kind people help me? I'm obviously doing something very wrong but cant for the life of me understand.....all thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

  • Multi track audio support on Apple TV

There appears to be a problem with Apple TV supporting multiple audio tracks. It looks like it has been a desired feature since Apple TV launched and even recently stated as working with the 2.3.1 update.
I'm a new owner of an Apple TV, I'm a little disappointed that the update didn't really add this support (support for multiple audio tracks is stated in the 2.3.1 update description and on the product description here: http://www.apple.com/appletv/whatson/movies.html).
I'm able to be patient since the product is still new to me, but it would be nice to hear some followup or statement on what exactly is going on with this feature (I know, "good luck", but I would think some response from apple would be in order only because they claim it's supported). I've looked around in the store and can't find any content that has extra audio tracks available and any video I create myself doesn't have support either.
So, is this a bug, by design, or did I just get duped into buying a product on false promises.
If anyone finds content in the store that has multiple audio tracks available and working, can you post it here?

Yah, I took note of that. That's really why I created this thread, in hopes that as soon as something with an alternate track is made available that someone would be so kind as to post it here.
But given all the problems everyone has with trying to get a video with multi track audio to work on apple tv, I'm not expecting one until at least another point release (or two or three).
Personally I don't think we've seen one because it simply doesn't work yet (and I want so badly to be proven wrong).

  • Will Soundtrack Pro allow me to master multi-track audio CD?

Please help! I have been looking for the past 4 days for a multi-track audio editing software that will allow me to burn multiple tracks to a CD. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a 45 minute message and I want to fade a song in at the beginning, and another song fading out at the end. Then I want to place markers every 10 minutes, split into separate tracks, and burn the whole thing to CD from within that software (possibly I can fudge on this last one by exporting each individual track to iTunes, then making a playlist, but if Soundtrack Pro or some other program can do it all, then that is what I prefer!)
I tried Audacity, and it was close to what I wanted, but when I exported into iTunes the last 20 seconds of every song dropped audio! I have also tried the following and these are the errors/difficulties I encountered:
    • Amadeus II : No multi-track mixing capability
    • Cacophony: kept crashing, multiple error messages
    • Jasmine: unique tape-style interface, but again, no multi-track export
    • Sound Studio 3: good interface, easy marking, but no sound after export
    • Snd Sampler: only one sound can be open at a time
    • Deck LE: wouldn't even open one of my audio files!
So now my attention is on Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro. Both of these seem like they will have what I need, but I'm going to have to fork over a pretty penny. Which is better and will either do multi-track mixing to CD?
Thank you so much to anyone who will read through my whole ordeal and help me out with their musical expertise and sound audio advice!
    Sincerely,
    Paul

    Hello,
I thank you both for the help you've given, and I have obtained STP and really enjoy using it, but I am still disappointed that it will not allow me to master multiple tracks. For instance in Audacity, there is the export multiple command that splits one long song up according to the markers that you placed and then exports them as several different files. In STP, this same process is amazingly difficult, you have to take the razor tool, cut each section, drag it down to another track, then put a stop song marker after the cut section, then select each track and "export selected". (Do you know of an easier way?) Now for a $1200 dollar program that is just a little bit ridiculous, why cannot Apple just have a command to export by markers? Where can I go to request this feature be implemented?
Here's an example of what I am looking for, with features such as Redbook CD mastering (but this software is too buggy)

  • Multicam Edit with Audio from 2 Cam

I'm editing a multicam project with 5 cameras.  I want to use the audio from 2 cameras.  What is the best way to do this?
Right now I have the main audio all the way down and I dragged just the audio from the 2 cams I needed onto the timeline.  They aren't part of the angle viewer.  Is there another way.?  I had to manually sync it.  Hope that makes sense.

In a multicam you can choose to switch audio and video, only audio or only video, so you can just use the 5 angles corresponding to the 5 cameras, and work with that.
It is perfectly easy to do in Angle Viewer. Just click the appropriate button at the top of the Angle Viewer.
In the picture above the "video only" button (blue) is selected; in this situation, if you click to cut to a different angle you'll cut and switch only the video, and keep the same angle for audio. You can click the audio/video or the audio only whenever you need, and it will act accordingly. Very easy, very effective.

  • Multicam editing without timecode and audio?

    Hello!
I am editing a multi-cam interview with the unfortunate issue of 1. having no audio recorded from the secondary camera, and 2. the camera operators did not sync timecode or set the right time/date (DSLRs) and appear to have started/stopped rolling at different times, breaking up the interview into short clips...so I've been trying to figure out, what is the best way to go about this??  Is it possible to use the multi-cam edit without audio, and if so how do I get around it being broken into small clips that don't quite match?
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi caleb116,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The multicam editing feature in FCPX will help you work around these obstacles.  The link below explains the multicam editing workflow:
Final Cut Pro X Help: Multicam editing workflow
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.1/#ver10e087fd
Having the date, time and time zone set on your recording devices before the shoot is helpful for FCPX to create multicam clips automatically.  Normally, you can sync automatically using the audio in your clips.   However, since you don’t have that option in this case, you can just sync from the start of each clip and then enter the multicam editor and manually line up the angles.

  • Can you export multi track audio using FCPX?

    hey guys
i can only find export audio under the "share" menu
and it has aiff, aac and mp3, no wav or omf and no options to include as multi tracks rather than a single stereo track or 5.1 surround
do you guys know of a way to export multiple tracks? without muting every track and export numerous times of course

Typed this hours ago and forgot to post it.....
Have actually done that and sent a test piece to the broadcaster. Not sure if I have got the audio tracks in the right order.... from top to bottom would that be audio tracks 1-4, with four at the bottom? I am waiting to hear back from the broadcaster to see if the test piece works as they expect it to.

  • Need help with multi track/simultaneous recording

Please forgive me if the answer to my question has already been covered; I have searched the other posts but haven't been able to find the answer.
I am recording a podcast with a Behringer Xenyx X1832 mixer. In GB I know how to select "multi track recording" and set my two mics that are conneced to the first two channels of the mixer to "mono 1" and "mono 2" on the input source.
My question is how do I record audio from my Macbook on a seperate track?
I have a Focusrite 2i2 connected via USB to the Macbook acting as an output, then TRS cables from the outputs going to channel 7/8 on the mixer. When I play audio I can hear it perfect and adjust EQ and volume, but I am unable to record it on a seperate track on GB.
When I click on the track on GB, the input source says "stereo 1/2" and when I try to click the red buttons to arm the other two mono tracks where my mics are connected it says "The input channel of this track is already in use. To record on this track, choose another input channel."
What am I doing wrong? How do I send audio from the Macbook to the mixer and then record it on a seperate track, along with seperate tracks for each of the mics?

  • Multicam edit with camera that starts and stops

I am editing a multicam shoot and want to create a multicam clip with my two cameras. Camera A never stopped running, but Camera B stop several times. The time code was synced on Free-Run so there is no issues with syncing, but I want all camera B's footage to be on the same video track. Right now when i select all the clips FCP creates a multicam clip with several video tracks (for every new clip). Is there a way i could have it place every clip from camera B into one track so i can edit using camera 1, camera 2, as opposed to going up to camera 50?

    It's an option,
No, it's an elegant and practical solution to the production problem caused by your shooter. Free running timecode will drift (rather hopelessly) so you're not really gaining anything tanglible. You still have to sync the clips visually, you won't be able to depend on t/c except as a guide. Which is convenient but not solid.
im working with DVCproHD and a very big project so i don't want to take up more HD space.
You want to get the project done? Go buy another drive for $200.
    Also, everything is logged beautifully
Logging incorrectly-acquired footage doesn't amount to much, but, if you need to recapture, you're in luck. If you consolidate the footage into a single clip as suggested, recapturing is simply a question of replacing footage into the master clip and exporting it again.
I've also heard about using camera angles. does anyone know if this would be an option for this?
You only have two cameras and two angles. What have you heard about angles that would suggest them as a solution? Maybe if we understood how you have misunderstood angles, we could help you clear that up.

  • Best multi-track audio editor?

    Hi all.
About to purchase a Macbook Pro, but I was wondering about audio editing? I use Sony Vegas on PC mostly because of the simplicity, and the multi-track editing. What softwares are available on Mac that would enable me to do the same thing? I create song mash ups, using multiple songs clipped into one track mainly. All of the youtube video's out there are for Video/Audio but I'm only interested in audio editing on it's own.
    Thanks

Roddy has covered that in his http://www.iwebformusicians.com/MusicPlayers/Players.html site. Any flash player you use will require you to upload the audio files to the server and link to them there.
Piggybacking on what I learned from Roddy's site I put together some demo pages of flash players:
    Audio Player Wordpress
    Yahoo Media Player
    Slim Player Jutebox
Roddy has a couple of jutebox versions on his site and tutorials on how to create them.

  • Live Multi-Track Audio Recording in FCP

I was wondering if someone can tell me if this is possible. I have a single camera running into FCP for a live event. I have multiple room mic setup going into a Firwire Audio Interface (MOTO 828), I want to record the Video from the camera and the audio from the Firewire interface. The end product should be a single track of video with 8 tracks of audio, in sync.
I think this can be done by setting up my default audio input device as the firewire interface and capturing the video as I would normally do.
    Can someone verifiy this???
    Thanks

My experience has been a little different.
For instance, if clients bring in material that they only happen to have on DVD (which they own of course - I'm no pirate - ARRR) I will often capture it through our AJA Io. In this case, the XLR inputs on the Io do not allow me to adjust for the low line level coming from the DVD player, and so I use the Mac's Built-in audio input to take an aux input from my mackie mixer which allows me to boost the level. I set this up in FCP by simply starting from my regular AJA easy setup and changing the audio input source.
So that's firewire video input and built-in analog input, but I have also had success using two separate Firewire devices. In this case, I have a Sony HDV deck which only supports FW deck control. I want to capture Uncompressed SD through the Io, for which I must use the analog connections from the deck. I connect the Io normally via firewire, and connect a second firewire cable to the deck, running the analog outs from the deck to the Io. I start once again with my Io easy setup, then change the device control to FW DV. The video comes in through the Io's FW, and the deck control happens on the other firewire connection.
Now this is my funky workaround I cam up with by playing mad scientist in my lab, and though it has worked for me, that doesn't mean it will work for anyone else. Also, my particular combination of gear happens to allow this, but other variables here might give different results. Using the AJA Io is what is making this work for me here, and I wouldn't be surprised if it did not work with your audio interface, trying to capture media over both connections to one file. However, try it and see - and make sure you select "capture video and audio to separate files" as I would expect this to be the only way this could work. Standard FW capture expects there to be video and audio in the same stream, and needs it to be that way to capture into a single file.
    Good luck!

  • Multicam editing with Transitions

Hi. Does anyone know if its possible to have FCP use a default transition (e.g. a Cross Dissolve) rather than the standard cut whilst Multicam editing?
It is easy enough to go back and drop in a dissolve on each edit point, but we are working with shows and concerts sometimes >3 hours so it's a bit time consuming! It would be great if FCP could automatically use a cross dissolve - any ideas?

    Shane,
Just getting started with FC Studio 5.1, and successfully used it to do a short multicam edit. After adding a cross dissolve at every angle cut, saving the project, and later re-opening the project, I can no longer use the multiclip in the viewer to change angles in the timeline. Is this due to the addition of the transitions, or to having ended the edit session, and later coming back to it?
Btw, the multiclip was created and synchronized without the use of a common time code, which was not available.

  • Sync audio with multi camera audio mistaken

Hello everyone, i really need big help. It's not an adobe issue. propably it's my fault.
So, here's the deal. I edit a music concert. I've been given the original audio footage and i used 3 cameras.
Even though with synchronize option i synchronized each one with the original audio while i'm editing it seems like after a while it's unsynchronized. Any idea please? i've spent lot of hours doing it separately but it always losing synchronization.
    Thank you all, in advance.
I've noticed that while the audio is in 44100hz camera settings are in 48000hz. i tried to convert the audio but finally it didn't worked.

It seems fairly normal for separately recorded audio to drift out of sync on longer shots.  I'm not entirely clear why camera makers can get all their cameras to sync perfectly with each other, even across manufacturers, yet audio recorders have such a hard time with this.  But...they do.
The solution is to find out by trial and error what percentage your device is off, and then apply that change to the audio clip.  I had a recorder that needed to be speed adjusted to 100.04% in PP for the audio to remain in sync, so I applied that to every audio clip from that recorder.
