MultiCam In Viewer

I'm back.
I have narrowed the goofy little problem down with my viewer.
When I am doing live editing of a multiclip from the timeline, there is either a steely-gray line in the render bar, or another color. Only the steely gray color will play the multi-clip in the viewer while I edit, all other colors, including the purple-gray color which I think indicates it's been rendered. With all the options checked on the render list, it still does not turn steely gray.
When mousing over the steely gray render bar, it says video:media, audio: media. The purple-gray color says video: rendered, audio: rendered.
So I'm confused.
Any idea how I can unrender and keep everything a media file until I'm done with it so I can see what I'm doing?
Thanks for all your help.
I really appreciate it

On the other hand, I don't want to lose all that fine tuning I've already done to the attributes of my clips. I managed to fix the picture so that it actually looks good from three different places in the room with very uneven lighting.
Besides, my poor MBP is really maxed out, and right now I'm trying to see video clips and slides I'm superimposing (B-roll?) over the multiclip in the canvas. I have to render each section so I can see it play, and get the timing just right. I think I'm doing this all the hardest way possible.
Any suggestions for solving both issues?

  • Multicam project: rendering timeline disabled multicams in viewer

i am working on a multicam project and recently rendered my timeline, ever since i did that, i have been unable to view the multicams in the viewer while playing back in the timeline. if i go to a spot in the timeline and pause, i can see all cameras, but once i start playing, i only see the selected camera. i did a test with a new sequence, created a short multicam clip and was able to see all cameras in the viewer. then once i rendered the new test sequence, i could no longer see all cameras. i am making sure that i am selecting "open" instead of "sync off" from the top pulldown of the viewer. finally, i closed out fcp, deleted the newly created render file for my test sequence, reopened the project, of course i got a message that one render file was missing, pressed continue, played back the sequence, and once again i was able to see all cameras. so my question is, is this the fix? delete all of the render files for the project so that i can view all cameras, seems kinda strange this is happening....

You could just duplicate the sequence and render that for client viewing, keeping your working version unrendered, until you're ready to render.
Overall, it basically depends on your workflow and what you're doing. Mine has a pretty slim range of workflow steps, so I just duplicate the sequence when I'm ready to move to the next stage. This way I can always go back to an earlier version or stage of the process if needed.
Also keeps me from filling up harddrive space with unnecessary rendering. I generally do my render once I've got a 'locked cut' in place (collapsed sequence w/color correction, filters, L3rds...etc), then I duplicate that sequence after rendering to add different show opens/closes for different final outputs. The duplicate retains the original render files, so I don't have to keep rendering each final sequence.

  • Multicam Angle viewer issues

I am trying to edit a multicam clip.  The angle viewer footage is not playing from the project.  But when I highlight the multicam clip in the events folder, they are all synced and play well... I just cant edit the clip in the project because the footage is not moving....  What am I missing????

What are the specs of the media? What are the project properties? Is the media optimized? Proxy?

  • Multicam angle viewer frozen during edit

I'm just starting to edit a three-camera interview with FCPX's otherwise elegent multi-cam edit feature. However as I play the multi-clip in the timeline, the cuts are being effected properly via keystroke, as they should, however the clips in the angle viewer are frozen in place forcing me to guess at where to make the cuts as the timeline runs. I can scrub through the multiclip in the media browser and it moves the three angles then. But they stand still when I try to edit.
I've restarted FCP. I've restarted the computer. I've zapped the PRAM. I've repaired permissions multiple times. I've trashed permissions. I even changed the clip to proxy media. Nothing's working. What up here?

Wow...discussions are finally back! That took a while...
...anyway...I'm sorry. I may have misled with that "This solved my question" but Mr. Wolsky must surely have helped plenty of people without receiving credit so let's just give him this one.
What I meant by that was that it answered my question about migrating a project from one drive to another without messing with my event. (boy I hate this terminology. If anything shouldn't Projects be called Events and vice versa? I think so. Regardless, they're dumb labels) I guess I should have rated it "This helped me."
But no, the freeze has NOT thawed. Even switching to Proxy media did not do the trick. I don't know that the full disc issue ever was in question in this regard anyway; it was just to darn full for any operational purposes. But I also had to move the projects as they were on my system disc. (or, more accurately, a partition thereof) And that didn't help the freeze either.
So I'm still editing blind, sort of. Fortunately it's just an interview. It's easy enough to do it without the footage being viewable in the angles viewer. If it were anything else it would be a much bigger problem, so I hope I can get this fixed soon.

  • Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?

Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?  Is there some kind of window I can open where they will show up?  I am scrubbing a timeline and I would like to see all the cameras at once.

The multicam monitor only shows multiple clips at once when they are part of a mutlicam sequence. is there some reason you don't want to use them inside a multicam sequence for previewing?
Here is a possible workaround, if your workflow circumstances will permit it:
Apply a pip preset effect  to each clip in the timeline. Use UL, UR, LL, LR presets and up to four video tracks will display at once. If you need to see more than that, you'll need to tweak their position parameters by hand. When you're done previewing them all at once you just need to delete their effects from the Effects Controls panel.
I know it's not that neat or quick, but it will let you see everything at once in the program monitor.

  • Viewer doesn't display correct frame from multicam. Bug?

I'm able to create a multicam clip no problem for 3 clips.  I've assigned my clips Camera Angle names and used Camera Angles for ordering the clips and automatic / audio synching to create the multicam clip.  When I view the clips in the Event browser, playback in the Viewer is fine and matches if I switch angles, etc.. The angle editor is also all good.  I then add the multicam clip to the Timeline to begin to make edits.  In the Timeline, even before I try to make any through edits, i.e. cutting to a different angle, the viewer is no longer in sync with what is shown in the angle editor, which is correct.  I even went back and removed all keywords (favorites) and analysis keywords (One Person, Medium Shot etc). in case they were causing the issue somehow.  I deleted the multicam clip, and re-created it, no problem.  But the viewer in the Timeline continues to be incorrect, though the angles are correct.  So playback and export show the wrong frames.  I should add that the audio is fine (which is from my primary clip), but the video (which is also from the same angle), continues to be incorrect.
Has anyone else encountered this or have an idea what would cause the playback in the Viewer to be out of sync when the multicam clip is just fine?
System info: Final Cut X 10.0.4 on Lion 10.7.4 on a Mac Pro 2.4GHz Xeon with 32GB of RAM

I've found the solution to this issue with Sastry's suggestion.
I had all the subreport section suppressed based on if the date value is null.
When i changed the subreport links to all parameters field and un suppress all the subreport sections, the data is displaying as it should be.
Thank you Sastry for your good tip on this one.

  • Multicam editing: Can't get blade to show in angle viewer when trying to edit in Timeline

This problem just appeared. I have done lots of multicam editing in FCPX, it works great.
But, today I started on a new video and:
    - I created the first multicam clip, it looks fine.
    - I created a Project and appended the multicam clip into the Project, it looks fine.
    - I see all the Angles in the Angle Viewer, it looks normal.
    - I select the Event Browser and hit play, all angles play. I move the curser over an angle and I see a hand, just as I should. everything fine so far.
    - I click in the Timeline and hit the space bar and the selected angle and audio start to play..........BUT the angles in the angle viewer do NOT play. Not right.
    - With the Timeline still selected, I move the curser over an angle in the angle viewer, and i see the hand, NOT the Blade.
So, FCPX thinks I am still in the Event Browser, even though when I click in the Timeline, the Timeline background color changes to light grey, which says I am in the Timeline. FCPX is not letting me go into the Timeline (even though the background color changes).
I have to be doing something dumb, but I don't see it.
    Any suggestions?

Turns out that was EXACTLY the problem --- I kept looking around and finally discovered the problem was that I was NOT in a project (although I thought I was).
    Nevertheless, thank you for responding.

  • Multicamera angle's view out to external monitor?

    Hello Forum,
Is it possible to have the angle view of multicamera viewable via transmit to my external monitor?  (via Blackmagic Intensity Pro)
Currently, it only displays the active angle.
    Thanks all!
    - Ryan

You could get a Canopus box and put the video out firewire to a video monitor that composite video in.
To do this the video needs to be a DV stream.
If the video is the new hi def standard with a framerate of 23.97, you will see picture but it won't be frame accurate sync.
If you have a G5 or a Mac Pro you could get another video card and display the video on that.

  • Multicam - viewing all angles in the sequence

OK, I am a novice when it comes to multicam on FCP.
I can't seem to figure this small thing out...Can you NOT see all the angles of a multiclip while the footage is in the SEQUENCE? I know that you can see all the angles in the VIEWER, but I want to drop the whole 2 hours onto the timeline, and trim and swap angles there. But I can't see all the angles while watching in the CANVAS I have a Convocation, with a line cut and three ISOs, and I just want to cut away to the other angles when, well, I want another angle.
Not possible? How should I approach this?
    Thanks,
    Shane

    OOoooo...thanks Michael! Perfect!
Only...I am stuck with a problem. They shot two nights, and the first night all the cameras matched...so that works great. BUT, they want me to use the SECOND night, and what did they do? They used a DIFFERENT CAMERA that shot a DIFFERENT FORMAT. So I can't multiclip. This is a two hour show.
I might transcode the different camera...I think the time taken to do that would make up for me trying to do it via stacking. Ugh...things can never be easy, huh?
    Thanks!

  • Placing multicam shots from viewer to canvas?

I've edited a multicam sequence and now need to use that exact sequence in another sequence BUT the error I'm getting is "Operation not allowed. You cannot nest sequences with different editing timebases."?????
Please help. I've tried making a subclip but that didn't work either???
    Thanks

You could copy/paste the content from the 24 sequence, into the 29.97...this should work, unless for some reason, that media is actually 24fps.
Or, you simply create a new sequence with a 29.97 timebase, then copy/paste both sets of media into it.
IIRC, you can't change the sequence settings of an already created sequence...you have to create a new sequence, with different settings. (at least up to FCS1/FCP 5.1.4, might be different with FCS2/FCP6)
    Hope that helps,
    K
EDIT - RE: >>"my "t" key has been customized sssssooooo even when I highlight all the clips and control select "collapse multiclip" it allows me to BUT it only brings up that one camera angle in my viewer???? I've got to be doing something very stupid on my end???? when creating a collapsed multiclip, does it make a new sequence??? and if so where is mine??? I do not see in my browser any new sequences???? "<<
If your 't' key is modified, then just 'lasso' the multicam clips, then collapse.
When you collapse a multiclip, FCP simply shows each of the angles you 'cut' together. If you ever need to change any of these shots, just contol-click any give clip(s) and select 'uncollapse multiclip'...make changes, then re-collapse.

  • PREMIERE CS6 multicam view has a glitch!!!

It seems PREMIERE CS6 multicam view has a glitch!!! It wont let you manully (not while in playing mode) scroll through frame by frame and switch from camera to camera and update your nested timeline with edit cuts!! It will only make edit cuts while the play button is engaged! Which means you have to be perfect with your cuts while the footage plays back! Can someone fix this please?!!

Under "Adjust multi-camera edits in a Timeline panel," your bullet says, "Place the current-time indicator at the place in a Timeline where you want to replace a clip from one camera with a clip from another. In the Multi-Camera Monitor, select the replacing camera preview."  No one would possibly read the word "select" and assume that means pressing the Ctrl-key combination.
BTW, you can replace the shot by just selecting the camera preview. Select, does mean "clicking on" in this context. I moved this sentence to "Switch to a camera angle," to avoid confusion. "Adjust multi-camera edits in a Timeline panel," contains information only when manipulating clips in the Timeline, not the Multi-Camera Monitor (combined with the Timeline). I adjusted that text, as well.
I hope this page is clearer for all: http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/premiere-pro/using/editing-mult i-camera-sequences1.html
Thanks, Kevin; the new section called "Cut to a camera angle" is basically the clarifying information that we needed, expanding everyone's understanding of the new Ctrl-key combination requirement to include not only the numbered keystrokes, but also clicking on the source in the Multi-Camera Monitor (when working from the Timeline, for example).
However, the section entitled "Change a camera angle" that immediately precedes it is not only redundant, but inaccurate, as it continues to leave out the Ctrl-key combination requirement when clicking on the new camera angle to effectuate an edit (and the sub-note about recording doesn't help).
I really think you should literally try these things out, following your own draft instructions, before posting them.  You'll see...

  • Feature request FCP-7...To view 2 tracks without using multicam ?

Many of us work with 2 video tracks one above the other, sometimes I do not want to set up multicam to see both tracks simultaniously but how difficult can it be when looking at 2 video tracks would it be to allow us to view the footage underneeth track 2. Workarround is tedious, lowering oppacity of T2 or making box wipes in the motion tabs etc, this is fine till you are editing HD. So there it is...a way to view 2 tracks simultaniously without invoking multicam.

a way to view 2 tracks simultaneously without invoking multicam
For now, the Playhead Synchronisation mode Gang will get you halfway there ...
Place the playhead where you want to see both clips and then double click the lower (hidden) clip, Then choose View menu *> Playhead Sync > Gang*
Now, as you move the playhead in the canvas/timeline the image in the Viewer will be updated to show the equivalent frame from the ganged clip.
... but this only works at a clip level and not at a track level. If you are working with multiple short clips then consider nesting the track and then ganging to the nest.
(Note to Apple Developers: It ought to be easy to extend the Gang to work at a track level ie add a Gang Track mode, by exactly the method above whereby the track could be treated as a virtual nested clip)
Another way to quickly view the clips on a lower track is just to toggle clip or track visibility of the upper clip/track. Ctrl B is the shortcut for toggling a clips visibility. If toggling track visibility beware losing all your renders ... use Ctrl Z (undo) to toggle the tracks visibility back on as this will also bring back any lost render links.
As to a formal implementation of a new feature to view all tracks given the existing GUI, heres what I'd be thinking:
Similar to the common DAW function of stacking takes and auditioning them (STP can do it) I would imagine that being able to stack video clips and then view them all simultaneously (without having to set them up as a Multclip) ought to be a worthwile feature.
I'd see it working using a simple toggle key to open and close a QuickTake window or some such which would display all the clips at the playhead position similar to a MultiClip view. Similar to the Multiclip functionality, in the QuickTake window, clicking on the clip you want, or using a keyboard shortcut to switch, would make the chosen clip the active one (setting the Clip Enable/Disable Status accordingly for clips). Clips on tracks not targeted by Auto Select would not be referenced and/or affected by this mode.
Personally, in the For What It's Worth category, I think EDIUS's implementation of the Multicam workflow is amongst the best I've seen. You stack your clips on the timeline and then switch to Multicam mode (F5) ... no convoluted setup process, just instant Multicam functionality with whatever is on the timeline. Another key press to toggle it back to the normal edit mode.

  • Multicam editing - changing camera viewed

    Hello
Not sure if this is specific to Première CS5 but something I dont understand:
Editing a multicam sequence, I change the cam view from MC1 to MC2 for a specific clip section. I notice that 2 or 3 sequence sections just after also change from MC1 to MC2 even though one one portion was selected.
    Any clues?
    Thanks

David, thanks for your answer but really its too general as my question is around a specific seeming querk.
I have a sequence with two tracks (what I called the underlying sequence). This is then nested into a second sequence enabled for multicam.
I then have a certain number of cuts, at which I change from cam 1 to 2 and back.
Imagine three portions separated by cuts say portion 1 is on cam 1, portion 2 on cam 2 and portion 3 on cam 1.
I then changed portion 1 to cam 2 and all three portions went to cam 2.
There is some kind of link between the three that is making them all change.

  • Multicam Edit playback: One Angle only in Viewer

    Hello
I just shot a theater play with 3 cameras, managed to do a multicam edit thanks to the great walkthroughs there is on internet. So I now finished a rough cut, and I want to review the whole thing from the beginning.
Now for some reason, when I play the cut, my Viewer only shows the active angle and not the multiclip. It will show me the 3 angles only if I pause.
Is there some setting I missed?
    Here are my settings
    RT:
Unlimited RT / Dynamic Playback Video quality and frame rate / Multiclip playback
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers

Genius. I was having this same problem...thanks!

  • Multicam playback a nightmare with angle viewer open. Please help!

I have a brand new, 27" iMac, 8gb ram, 3.4ghz processor, 1gb video card.  Using Final Cut Pro X 1.0.5.  Trying to stitch together only two Canon 60D clips using the multicam feature in FCPX.  When the angle viewer is open, the video on ONE track will drop frames like a seagull dropping digested fish.  It's not even usable. When I hide the angle viewer, plays back fine. This is a workaround, but I want that viewer to be open to make further edits...that's the point.  I even lags when I'm making edits.  How can I solve this...what is the issue??  Please advise!

    a) use proxies
    b) keep events on a fast 2nd drive
.... my set-up has about 20% of your horse-power - and 5, 6 multi clips are no problem.-
