Multicam quirks in Premiere CC

Anyone else seeing inconsistent and quirky behavior with new multicam in Premiere CC?
For example, my normal workflow is to have the multicam/program window on my right hand monitor and the timeline open in my left monitor. I drag the playhead in the timeline through the project, watch what the various camera shots are, and cut to cameras as needed via a ctrl+click, adding transitions when necessary. In CS6 this worked very well.
However in CC a couple of issues have come up that makes me wish for CS6, unless someone has some suggestions. All video is running from an adequately speedy external RAID. Usually working with Canon XF video and AVCHD clips.
The new "combined" program and multicam view doesn't pan out. I have an external SDI monitor and under CS6 I could see the final video, effects, transitions and everything on the external monitor. Now with CC when I'm in "multicam mode" I CANNOT see any effects, transitions, etc., just the raw cuts between camera views. To see effects and such I have to temporarily drop to "non-multicam" view (via button or shift+0) and then switch back. Probably someone is going to say "you shouldn't do it this way, you should first go through and choose your camera shots then go back through and add effects" but I don't care...I use to be able to work this way in CS6, why can't we in CC? Maybe I'm missing something.
There are a lot of playhead and multicam edit quirks introduced, possibly as a results of the new combined multicam window. When dragging the playhead in the timeline frequently I'll stop dragging, tap spacebar to hit play, and the playhead will jump back in time to some spot 10-20 seconds back. I can't explain this nor does it seem to happen in any reproducible way. To make matters worse if I'm dragging the playhead and find a spot I need to switch cameras I'll stop dragging, select the camera, only to cringe and find that the playhead jumped back 10 seconds and now my camera edit is in the wrong place! I tried to mitigate this by dragging the playhead in the program/mutlicam window (instead of the timeline window), but I don't like this because the audio waveform isn't right there in my line of sight anymore and also it introduced new gremlins. Quite often I would ctrl+click a camera and the yellow "select" rectangle would remain on the previous camera. But in my timeline and external monitor the new camera is showing! Erk, this little bugs are very annoying.EDIT: After more testing this bug is easily reproducible. WIth a multicam sequence drag the playhead in the timeline window far down in to the sequence and immediately hit spacebar, drag back near the beginning and hit play. Doing this repeatedly will eventually cause the playhead "jump" back to a previous position. It does not seem to happen when dragging the playhead in the multicam window. It does not seem to happen when in non-multicam mode and dragging the timeline playhead. So end result: the "jump" bug happens when in multicam mode and dragging the timeline playhead.
When switching between sequences very frequently the newly selected sequence will be marked "red" under the workbar and nothing will show on the external monitor. But if I quickly switch between multicam and non-multicam and back to multicam the red will dissappear and everything is normal.
Any tips would be appreciated. I'm not quite ready to dump CC since there are lots of appreciated performance improvements (spanned AVCHD clips are rock solid so far...fingers crossed).

    hello
I have weird a problem while editing in multicam sequence.
I will try to specify this:
when I am start  editing,  its working fine, the problem start when the sequence is larg (over an hour)
when I am getting to 30 minutes and more, and I have to stop (to fix the editing)
I am rolling the cti back a few second and press the spacebar and premiere response
very slowly until it starts recording, and it wont scroll back and forward (while scrubbing the cti)
and it's getting worse as long as am going further.
the response time is very long when I approaching the 01:00:00:00.
in 01:50:00:00 it's taking her between 20 or 30 second to respond.

  • Multicam editing in Premiere Pro CC very slow after latest update.

So I installed the latest update for Premiere Pro CC a couple of days ago and now every edit I make in my Multicam sequence takes about 10 seconds to take effect. No matter how small an edit I make. While it´s taking affect the computer just freezes.
Is it possible to downgrade or does someone have a sollution?

@Devinclk: You specify that you're on 7.2. If that's accurate, then please update to 7.2.2. Among the many bugs fixed were several involving multicam.
@Mediatek: first off, as a CC subscriber you most certainly do have access to the CS6 version of PPro. On this download page, use the drop-down under "In This Version" midway down the left side of the page to select CS6, then click "Download." As to the problems you're having with CC, if you start a new thread and provide as much detail as possible, there's a good chance someone around here will be able to help troubleshoot it. Remember, while you're choosing to emphasize that you're "another struggling CC user," tens of thousands of customers are using the program without such problems. So there's a particular issue--or confluence of issues--causing particular problems in your case. The first step to resolving the problems is for you to share specific & thorough enough information for someone to help.

  • Question: Has anyone lost multicam functionality in Premiere Pro CS6?

i've successfully done multicam sequences before but now when I try to create a multicam sequence from selected clips it does not offer "Audio" as a sync source (it's not greyed out, it's not there!)
Anyway, I marked some "In" points managed to create a multicam sequence using those. I then added that sequence to the timeline as a new sequence. All good but when I clicked the "settings" wrench in the program frame to enter "multicam mode" for a live cut, it wasn't there (multicam mode that is; all the other stuff was in the drop down menu - no room to insert an image of that in this post)

The features you're talking about are for Premiere Pro CC.  CS6 doesn't have the Audio sync, and the multicam window is separate.

  • Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue

I downloaded th trial version in Premiere CC and try to edit a multicam project edit about 30 min of footage saved it and close Premiere CC after reopen each cut made on timeline start with the begining of video so like i had 3 cameras and all of them start recording on diferent time i got like black image all over and sometime when i had switched to the camer x what start recording 1st is showing the image
    ........ any help?

Seems like this thread is the same issue just in different words: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1237142?tstart=0
Sadly, I found out the hard way. I'm another lost soul that was bit by this bug. And on my first day of editing with Premiere Pro CC after using CS6 since last fall. Day one and I already have to shelve the new software til it's fixed. So sad. Makes me really wonder actually how this was never caught and solved in all the time leading up to the release given that if you make any adjustments to your multicam that rewrite any previous multicam edits, then save and reopen the project the issue pops up. Seems like a pretty huge bug to look over or miss.  If it was "known" then how can you justify releasing it? It essentially cripples this feature rendering it almost useless.
The bug occurs whenver you go back and "re-edit" or "re-write"...as in hit play and make new cuts as it plays OVER previous edits that you made on a multicam sequence. Simply start any multicam edit, make a few cuts. Stop...go back a bit and hit play and redo some of those cuts in the multicam window (which will overwrite the previous cuts you made). Now save, close and reopen...and there you have a screwed up sequence just like the above videos show.
This is very disappointing. Multicam is broken in Premiere Pro...again. Sad.
    Mark Mapes wrote:
edited: As a workaround, after saving and closing an edited multicam sequence, we recommend making subsequent edits through the Timeline rather than the Program Monitor's Mullticam mode.
The caveat here is you must NEVER re-do ANY of your previous edits before you EVER save and close. So if you stop a multicam midway (even on your first time throught it) and decide you want to re-do the previous edits, DO NOT DO IT using the program monitor's multicam window. You now have to use the rolling edit tool to adjust your previous cuts. If you go back, hit play and write over any previous edits the way you're "supposed to" using the multicam window then you're screwed upon reopening your project. This is gonna be fun to see how long it takes for Adobe to fix their broken editing program.

  • 24BIT AUDIO NOISE QUIRK IN PREMIERE

    Hi to All!
For quite some while we struggle with a strange audio problem in Premiere CS 3 - 6.
What we experience is that when we export a 24 or 32 bit (48 / 96 kHz) clean audio track from (Avid)/Protools then we suddenly hear audible noise in the audio track in Premiere. It is not drastic but still noticeable.
    So:
    Protools (24bit/96kHz)     =>     Premiere CS3-6     =     noise
Premiere CS3-6 (audio track)     =>     Protools       =      okay
When we look on internet then nobody seems to pick up on this. Which is strange because we get this on several videosets. As a result we stopped working with 24 bit files towards Premiere.
When we do an export the noise is part of the exported file.
    OUR EQUIPMENT:
What have all our sets in common.
We always use MasterCollection 3 - 6 (recently only 6)
We have i7 processors Windows 7 machines, with current updates from the OS and Adobe.
We have current updates from Quicktime.
All machines have Blackmagic hardware types (varies from Video shuttle  to a  3D Card)
All machines have Protools hardware (varies from Mbox - Digi002)
We experience the noise while using the Blackmagic hardware. The noise is comparable with the effect when you would use an old tapemachine without Dolby and play it back from the tape. (SR noise ratio +- 60dB). The noise that you hear is very comparable with the effect what we experience on our machines when playing back 24bit files. It is very noticeable on voice only. When using music files this normally masks the problem.
I hope someone identifies with this quirk. I would very much apreciate this.
    Regards,
    Kai

    Figured it out!
The sequence settings were'nt set up in a XDCam Format.
    Audio sounds clean now.
    Cheers.

  • Multicam Audio Sync Premiere CC MXF clips fails everytime!

    Hi,
Premiere CC cannot audio sync MXF clips (from two Canon XF100s).  It fails everytime and just places all clips concurrently from their start.  No syncing occurs.
    Is this a known bug?
    Michael

    Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately, no audio syncing occurred with multi-cam on 2 different formats (MPG and MP4). I did find out how to view the multi-cam sequence though.... You need to have the track with the multi-cam sequence selected.  If it's not selected, the preview window is blank.
But Premiere still can't sync audio with all formats I've tried.

  • Premiere Pro CC has a BUG (glitches) when playing XDCAM EX and XDCAM footage

I work with XDCAM EX footage and since I upgraded to CC all the footage now plays with glitches.  Sometimes it just shows green.  In addition to it the audio goes out of sync if you continue playing.
I did some research and other people are reporting the same issue but with XDCAM footage.
Adobe, please fix this bug.  I can't edit anything like this.  Also in the mean while let us, creative cloud members reinstall CS6.  I can't just sit for days waiting for a fix.
I'll try a doing a clean reinstall of everytjing in the computer but if issue this persists, by tomorrow I'll have to switch back to Final Cut X.

Maybe Adobe needs to expand it's beta program before release.

  • Premiere CS4 Crashes when rendering audio

This is the first time I have encountered this issue.  I am working on a nested 4 camera sequence and have performed a multicamera edit.  I have been cutting the multicamera timeline for a couple of weeks now and today I had a issue where I was rendering the audio on the multicamera timeline and premiere crashed.  The computer crashes every time I render the audio or shortly afterwards.  If it makes it through the render the program crashes soon after when I am scrubbing through the audio.  No specific error just "Premiere Pro has encountered and error and needs to close"  I've tried deleting the rendered files then recreating them.  I've tried replacing the audio layer 1 from the source sequence with a new .wav then rendering the audio in the multicamera sequence but neither has worked.  I also tried starting a new project and importing the multicamera project into the new project I had just created but I still could not render the audio.  Now I'm wondering if one of my clips within the project is causing a problem but I don't know how to go about testing this theory other than deleting each audio asset one at a time from audio layer 1 of the source sequence timeline, then attempt to render my nested multicamera sequence.
Anyone ever have this problem before?  It's driving me crazy!

Thanks, that is a good option.  I was able to find and remove two clips on the raw footage timeline that seemed to be causing rendering problems.  I have not had any crashes since.  If I do, I will use your advice.

  • Export multicam as split screen

I have a bunch of musical performances already in multicam sequences in Premiere CC.  I want to send a quad split video to another editor for reference.  How can I easily export this?  In other words, make a 1080p quicktime that looks exactly like the multicam monitor.
I know I could take each clip in a new timeline and apply scaling and position effects, but I'm really hoping there's an easier way because I have to do a lot of these.

  • Multicam fiasco isn't over... it just got moved!

I was overjoyed to find out that Premiere Pro CC will bring us something Adobe users have never had until now... a multicam tool that actually works! (i.e. the painfully stupid 'auto switch back to original camera angle when playback stops' problem has finally been fixed. ALLELUIA!)
However, this video proves that the problem hasn't been so much fixed, as it has been relocated: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/using-clip-mixer-to-adjust-volume-and-pan/.
This video illustrates, rather to the presenter's repeated frustration, that whenever a user records audio levels live using the new Clip Mixer, stopping playback switches to the original level before playback started (jump to 6:00 into the video to see this happen).  Sounds familiar multicam users?
At this point, I have to ask: SERIOUSLY ADOBE????!!!!!
The pre-CC multicam tool in Premiere was a royal PITA to use due to the serious, and rather unthinkable IMO, lapse of logic in the workflow.  So now, after years of allowing this nonsense to go on, Adobe finally fixes Premiere's multicam workflow only to relocate its completely unwanted 'auto switching' bug to their new Clip Mixer??????
As good of an improvement as Premiere CC may be, this clear-as-a-bell workflow issue is making me lose faith in Adobe.  You'd think that at least 1 programmer on PP's team would have to good sense to see the workflow problem here.  Are we supposed to believe that the quality control at Adobe is this weak?  Or was this done on purpose so that 5 years from now it will finally be fixed and touted as a 'new feature'? (For the record, the fixed Multicam is NOT a new CC 'feature' IMO.  It's just a fix to a problem that never should have been created nor passed QC in the first place.)
Hopefully the 'auto switch back to original audio level' is just a bug that will be fixed soon, rather than a conscious design decision.  Otherwise, I cannot express how disappointing it is to be treated by Adobe as users who don't know any better than to understand just how wrong it is for keyframes to automatically appear when playback stops.  Either way, once I can test PP CC for myself, to confirm the serious issue that the video above illustrates, I will be sending Adobe plenty of official Feature Requests/Bug Reports for them to fix their new tool and make it work properly in accordance to sane human logic.  I would encourage everyone else to do the same.
    End of rant.

    PierreLouisBeranek wrote:
You may blame the instructor for not knowing about this switch - although it means that he doesn't really understand what he's doing - but not Adobe. The mixer is working as it should, some people simply don't know how to operate it.
    ==========
I am that instructor. At the time I created the tutorial (April 2013) and up to this moment, the Premiere Pro prerelease site, new features documents had not noted that there was an option in the Audio Clip Mixer panel fly-out menu to choose between "Keyframe Mode Latch" and "Keyframe Mode Touch" (it's set to "Latch" by default).
Had I known, I would have tested those options. In any event, it appears P Pro's Track and Clip Audio Mixers' Write, Latch, and Touch features behave incorrectly. No matter which option you select (you can choose only Latch or Touch in the Audio Clip Mixer), after stopping playback, P Pro adds a keyframe, one frame after the stopped position, at the volume level when you started recording keyframes in the Mixer.
This behavior does not match standard Write, Latch, and Touch methods. At the very least it should match the way things work in Audition and other audio products like Logic Pro:
Write: When playback starts, overwrites existing keyframes with current settings. Continues to record new settings until playback stops.
Latch: Begins recording keyframes when you first adjust a setting, and continues to record new settings until playback stops.
Touch: Similar to Latch, but gradually returns settings to previously recorded values when you stop adjusting them. Use Touch to overwrite specific sections of automation while leaving others intact.
Bottom line: only Touch reverts to the original volume level and it should do that gradually. In Audition, the duration of the change can be set in preferences.
In any event, I have filed a bug report on this. I plan to re-record the tutorial once I hear back on what Adobe plans to do about this behavior.

  • Prelude to Premiere Pro audio sync?

I am editing my first feature length film in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I would like to utilize Prelude, however I am a bit confused as to when and how to sync my external audio with my video. Should I first use Prelude, make subclips, make a rough cut and then ingest into premiere and sync. But how will my audio be able to sync subclips without my clapper board input? Any suggestions?

    Hi Jenny,
Firstly, I have really enjoyed using Adobe CC this year, very happy with my choice to migrate from Avid to CC.
Just a bit of constructive criticism for the prelude team on this point-
The way I have interpreted it, Prelude is a tool to ingest, log and prepare footage for Premiere, and there is a bit of a gap when it comes to synching seperate audio and working with multicam clips.
For singlecam clips, the program works fine for the most part- but on most professional level productions, there will be either; a) External audio recorded, or b) Multiple synched camera angles.
If the suggested workflow for working with seperate audio is to go to premiere first and then export to prelude, I think that is a bit of a backwards step if prelude is supposed to be the 'prepping' program.
And as for multicam workflow, I don't think Prelude is capable of working there either.
I have a multicam interview, 30 mins long, and I want to log all the key dialouge in prelude- I can do one of the angles, sure, but is it posible for me to then transfer that metadata to a multicam sequence in Premiere?

  • Multicamera can't activate cam 4

    Hey guys,
I've a problem with the multicamera mode in Premiere CS4. My aim is to use all four cameras. So each cam has its one sequence. All cam sequences were insert and synchronised in a new sequence. At next I have activated the multicam function on each track and assigned cam 1 to track 1, cam 2 to track 2 and so on. There the problem is: I can only select cam 1 up to cam 3. It's not possible to select cam 4 at any track.
Has someone an idea? This problem appears in others Premiere projects...
    Thanks a lot,
    Malte.

So each cam has its one sequence
That is not the correct way to do multicamera editing.
All cameras go into the same sequence, and get synced up there.  You then nest that one original sequence into a new sequence, and enable multicamera on that one nested sequence clip.

  • Convert Multicam Sequence to a "Regular" Sequence?

I tried to export a multicam sequence from Premiere Pro CS6 to Davinci Resolve Via, XML and AAF, in both cases I get a Mess of more than 96 tracks in Davinci, is there anyway to convert the multicam sequence to a regular sequence with clip names, timecode, sorce reel, etc?
    I will appreciate any help
    Best!
    Armando Ciurana

Actually I just use the EDL as a way to tell Resolve scene detect to "cut here".
In PrPro I do a duplicate of the edited multicam sequence were I keep only the edited multicam track (on a single video track) with straight cuts. Everything else is removed (audio clips, audio tracks, video tracks, titles, etc). I export the EDL from this simplified sequence to be sure that it contains only the cuts I want to get on Resolve.
In resolve I get to my flat export on the media page, right click on it and chose scene detect, then click on the option menu on the upper right corner of the scene detect window and select "Load EDL". Resolve asks if I'm sure and if I want to get rid of the existing detected cuts (I answer yes even if there isn't any, just to be sure). It instantly adds the cuts from the EDL, I browse through them with N and P to check if everything is ok, then "Add Cuts to Media Pool on the lower right. I then go to the conform page and append those clips to a new timeline, and I'm good to go.
If you try to use the EDL as a real EDL in the conform page you'll have the same problem than with the XML, as it won't reference the real files / reel / TC.
    Best to you too !
