Multicam - Switch vs. Cut and Switch

I am playing around with multicam clips and can't get just the Switch to work. Cut and Switch works great.
When I do a Switch Only, it switches in the angle editor, but not in my "final" clip such that when I play it back is only the original angle without any switches.
Is switching just a preview tool and you must use cut & switch to apply it to the final clip, or am I missing something easy?

Yes, all my synced footage is there in the project timeline w/ all functionality in the angle viewer. Did I read the help file wrong, or misinterpret it, where it comes to a live cam shoot, cut and switch editing, where you are not generating a multicam clip in the angle editor but the angle viewer is live, realtime (?) with a project timeline open?
Please advise.

Multicam switch is switching audio

I am trying to switch views on a couple of angles and the audio isn't cooperating.
I have two camera views and a separately recorded audio track for same. I created an in-sync multicam clip, no problem. However, now that I have that multicam clip in the timeline, when I switch between the two views I lose the good audio as soon as I make the cut.
I started by going to the clips multi-angle view in the viewer window and selected the good audio track. I clicked on the filmstrip icon to make it blue and the keyline around the audio icon turned green; as it should. I played back the clip and was able to switch views with the audio remaining from the good audio clip; the two video views now with a blue line around each thumbnail.
With the clip in the timeline I play the clip to where I want to switch views and hit "2" to switch to view 2. When I do, the audio to the left of the cut remains the good audio track, but to the right of the cut the audio switches to the scratch audio of the camera that shot that view. If I move forward in the clip and hit "1" to switch back to view 1, the audio switches to the recording from THAT camera. The good audio clip is rendered useless once the switch cut has been made, never to return.
I followed instructions to a "T" on making the multicam switch and I hope I describe it well enough above to illustrate that fact, but clearly something's not going right. Any clues?

Multicam Workflow for Cut Away and Cut To Shots

After creating a multicam sequence I want to add insert shots which are not synced. Which is more beneficial adding the insert shots into the initial multicam sequence timeline or in the new sequence from clip?
I think it is less restrictive for future editing if I add insert shots in the new sequence from clip, as the mulitcam sequence needs to be flattened from what I understand before any effects or transtions can be put on it. And once the multicam sequence is flattened then the camera angles can no longer be edited. Not sure if this is correct thinking?
Any feedback or tips greatly appreciated.

If I don't flatten the multicam sequence then where and when do I add my effects, filters, etc.? I'm still learning Premiere Pro and trying to establish a workflow.

Cut and paste not working in iphoto

I can't cut and paste between events in iPhoto any longer. i tried flagging a photo but the add flag item to event was grayed out. how can you move photos between events. i tried dragging but page didn't scroll very well so was a little inefficient

I see, in the "Photos" album I cannot cut and paste either. I can cut the photo from the event, but not paste it into a different event, because It is impossible to select the event for pasting in the Photos album.
@ Terence Devlin, is pasting into an event supposed to work inside the Photos album?
I can paste into an event in the Events view. And dragging and dropping between events is working well in the Photos view.

This cannot work in Photos view, because "Add flagged items to the selected event" requires an event to be selected, an in the Photos album is no selected event. You can create a new event from the flagged photos and drag this event on top of the event where you want them to go.
So, I am afraid you will have to switch between the Photos album and the Events view to move your photos around.

Multiple problems: can't open two windows, browser doesn't close although window disappears, and after working for a while I loose my ability to cut and paste or use drop down arrows

Maybe two weeks ago I discovered that I could no longer open two windows at a time (I can still open multiple tabs). I am also having problems with cutting and pasting, which is crucial to my on-line job. Plus, when I exit Firefox, it doesn't always shut down, so then when you go to re-open, of course, it won't (unless you go into process and turn it off). I have re-installed multiple times and I have also used restore. Nothing seems to be fixing this and I really, really don't want to use IE, especially for work.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

I am trying to manage my website, why can't I cut and paste information or even url?

I have recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Pro.
I have a large number of documents and photographs on a multiterrabite external drive, backed up on a second multiterrabite external drive.
Both external drives are formatted for MacIntosh. This has been verified by agents at an Apple store and also at Best Buy in two different cities.
This is the problem:
The MacBook Pro will not allow me to cut-and-paste to and from or to click-and-drag to the external drive. I can copy-and-paste, but then I must send the original to the trash, which doubles the time and effort. Is there any way to cut-and-paste?
Also, the MacBook Pro will not allow me to rename multiple documents or photographs. I can click-and-rename a single one, but this is impossibly time consuming. I can batch-rename in iPhoto, but when I transfer the photographs to the external drive, the rename does not transfer.
I’m reduced to using my wife’s Toshiba to cut-and-past, rename, and transfer documents. It works perfectly. Is there any way to do this on the MacBook Pro?

No, this is a philosophical difference between Apple and Microsoft. Apple believes that it's dangerous to cut a file in case the user never pastes it; in that case the file is lost. Microsoft seems to not have this problem (if I remember Windows correctly) because they don't delete the originating file if it's cut but never pasted.
Even though Macs have a lot of keyboard shortcuts, philosophically Macs have traditionally been mouse-first. This applies to file copy operations. In your case, what a Mac user would do is open the source window, open the destination window (on your second drive), and then Command-drag the selected files from the source to destination window. This is because a normal drag would leave the originals behind, while adding the Command modifier key tells OS X that this is a Move, not a Copy, so don't leave the originals behind.
(In addition there are different rules for drag-copying within the same volume or between different volumes. If you drag between two folders on the same volume, the files are moved. If you drag between different volumes, the files are copied unless you hold down Command to delete the copies on the source volume.)

Two problems in this case. First, batch file renaming is not built into OS X unless you build something with Automator. However, there are many utilities that can do batch file renaming which you can find at macupdate.com or on the App Store. Since I work with media I often batch rename using one of the media managers I have lying around like Media Pro or Adobe Bridge (comes with Photoshop).
iPhoto is a database front end designed to shield the file system from the consumer and let them concentrate on creativity and sharing. As such it is often a poor choice for managing files directly. When you "transferred the photographs" chances are you moved the originals, not the ones iPhoto edited which are stored in a hidden folder.

There will not be a way to do it exactly like Windows. As described above, there are ways to do it "the Mac way." If it is possible to remove judgment on which way is "better" you might find the Mac way to be acceptable, but of course sometimes we simply prefer what we're used to.

What has happened to cut and paste files?

I was a Windows user for a long time and then I switched to Linux, and finally to Mac OS X. So I'm quite used to cut and paste files in Windows and Linux, I didn't discover this problem in Mac OS X until I tried right clicking on a file in order to move it into another folder, but I found out that there is no cut or move option in the menu, so I tried Edit> Cut in the menu bar of Finder but surprisingly I found out it is grayed out, nor does the command X button have any effect. so I always have to drag the files and navigate into the desired folder in order to move them there, which is really frustrating sometimes. Is it my Mac or every other Mac out there has the same Bug? What is the work around solution?

You made a good point about cut files being deleted, however I think that is not the case, at least in other Operating systems that I have used, even If I forget to paste a file into a folder, they will never be deleted, at least it never happened to me, but I'm quite sure about this, so I don't think this would be a problem in Mac either, and if it is, which would be embarrassing, then what's the point of putting a dead Cut option in the Menu bar? am I missing something here? there has to be a work around, is it possible that I should change a security setting or something, somewhere?

How to Cut and Paste a file on Mac

Hey guys,
Nice to meet you here. I am a new Mac Book Pro 13" Retina Display user with OS X Yosemite. I just switched to Mac from Windows last week.
So far I have a great experience using Mac. However one thing is troubling me. How do I cut and paste a file? I've tried command+x and command+v but it doesnt work. I can copy and paste though by using command+c and command+v.

Yup, if you need to do that physically you walk over to the filing cabinet, get the file out, cut it to pieces, take the pieces to the new location, glue them back together, and put the recreated file in the new filing cabinet.

Cut and Paste with Mighty Mouse?

I just bought a new mighty mouse and I cannot figure out how to cut and past using the mouse. Do I right click, double click on the highlighted word or left click? Also, how do I drag highlighted phrases?

Problem: Mac OS X Photoshop 2014, cut and paste shortcuts intermittent?

I've been suffering this since I installed CC, and just found out my colleagues have the same problem.
Cut and paste shortcuts for Photoshop are intermittent. I have two open documents (single layer JPGs I've just opened), CMD A to select all, then CMD C to copy the entire layer ... then I switch over to my other JPG to CMD V to paste one image on top of the other.
Often, on my first attempt, nothing happens. I have to repeat, CMD A, CMD C, CMD V between the two images, two or three times to get the image onto the clipboard and paste it.
Sometimes, CMD V ends up pasting what's already on the clipboard.
So why I am I frequently experiencing intermittent copy-paste?

If you have larger troubles, hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file. This one solves and fixes most of the most rare problems.

Can't cut and paste from an Open Office document to my email

I'm trying to cut and paste a document in Open Office into the body of an email. I have Firefox 26.0 and Windows 8.

Thank you very much for your help but it didn't work. After I copied my text and switched to my email in Firefox, there was no option to choose "paste" into the body of the email. Could it be that this is because I'm using Open Office for word processing instead of Microsoft? I'm a very LOW teach guy!

Cut and Paste Between adjacent "Spaces" How to ??

Is it possible to either configure or command "Spaces" to display SIMULTANEOUSLY on my screen documents contained in, say, "Space 1" and "Space 2" ?

Yes, it does.
I do it all the time. I have one Space with my writing programs and another with my browsers. I am always cut in one Space and pasting in another. I found the quickest way back and forth is to use command + tab to switch between the open applications. It opens up the Space the includes the application to paste into.

Modified Files on FCPX... Random files in event folder(that I used to make a multicam clip) become modified and unusable. Is there anything i can do to prevent this?

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, every time I create a multicam clip on FCPX, random files(that were used to make the multicam clip) become modified and unusable(in High Quality). Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
I've tried transcoding, creating proxy media, creating optimized media, plus I've tried none of the above. Thing is, no matter what I do, it still happens(to random files) "after" I make the multicam clip. Is there a setting or something that was accidentally enabled by me or the upgrade?
BTW: Everything seems to work fine when 'playback' is set to proxy. The problem is when I'm ready to export and switch 'playback' to High Quality.

I had this same issue! But fixed it by going into the finder, finding the event, and delted the files out of the "High Quality Media." My project then refreshed to normal and no red modified file slides. The cool part: I din't even shut fcpx down to mess with the files in the finder. It all worked like a charm.
