Multicam, the more edits the slower it gets

Hi! I have a problem again. I want to do a multicam edit with 2 clips AVCHD, the show is about one hour. AVCHD is no problem it's a i5, 6GB Ram, working smoothly normally.
Now I started editing in multicam monitor and switching the cams on the fly. After a few edits the system got more and more laggy. After a while PR needed about 2-3 seconds to switch cams after pressing the keys.
So I stopped and started from the same point again, but the system kept beeing laggy. After I did the whole show - and it wasn't possible to edit at the right positions, I wanted to shorten the whole show. Now it takes about 10 seconds for the system to make the cut. The colorful Donut appears and it's taking ages to go on and on...
So it seems the more edits (cuts) there are in the timeline, the slower PR gets. What the f.... I've never had a problem like this before with AVID. There it doesn't matter how many edits you have in a project.
What can I do. It's just a 60 Minutes show! What about 90 Minutes etc...
Please help!

This 'may' be your machine, but all of us who use multicam in CS4 have the same issue, so I doubt it's 'just your machine'.
Multicam works great until (my experiences) you reach in the neighborhood of 30-50 "cuts", then it slows down (by slow down I mean the multicam monitor changing from cam to cam delays more and more) until it gets to the point that the user feels/believes the multicam isn't functioning.  That "visual feed back" the user gets from seeing the multicam monitor change is (my opinion) a necessity to make the 'multicam feature' usable.  In actuality, the multicam cuts are being recorded by CS4, and if you play back your timeline, you'll see the cuts you made, but not having that visual feedback as you are creating the cuts is unnerving to say the lease.
Apparently, Adobe didn't do anything to address this in CS4 updates but I SINCERELY HOPE this will be corrected in CS5.   I still have a copy of CS2 on my machine and if I'm going to have to do a lot of cuts in a multicam environment, I resort to using CS2 for my multicam work, then export that to an .AVI and import that .AVI into CS4 as a new file.  It's a cumbersome work-around I know....  BTW: multicam worked great in CS2 and CS3, only 'not working so great' in CS4....so, again I doubt that it's really your computer.

  • Consumer loop very slow, queue size grows. How to speed up my consumer loop? As the array grows the slower it gets.

    LabView version: 2012
    OS: Windows XP SP3
    Hardware: USB NI cDAQ-9174 NI-9221
    Application: Oscilloscope
I'm relatively new to LabView and I'm currently experiencing some performance issues with my project. I guess it has something to do with the way it's programmed. I'm hoping to get some tips from you guys.
This is my producer loop. It should be capable of acquiring 100 000 Samples/s. I guess I've done this the right way and can't really be improved. Or am I mistaking?
This is (part of) my consumer loop. It's too slow, the number of elements in the queue keeps getting bigger. I'm doing two types of calculations on the queue data. One for changing the scalling (a multiplication), one for changing the y-position (a summation). Because each time there are 10 000 samples acquired I have added an extra loop (inner loop). This loop splits the array into x samples when the requested samples are smaller than 10 000 or adds them when the requested samples are bigger than 10 000. This depends on the user input (time/dev).
For example: when the user request 100 seconds of data to be plotted on a graph we get an array of 10 000 000 x 8. Is this considered big? Enlarging the array to that size is very very slow, the queue builds up rapidly.
I don't know what really slows it down or how to 'debug' this properly. Transposing the array twice seems avoidable?
Maybe I'm doing this in an inefficient way? Any thoughts that might help me?
    The VI's are attached.
    Thanks for your input.

Thank you for your replies so far!
    LV_Pro,
I agree it is a bit silly to plot more than 2000 points. I will change this. But even without a graph, the consumer loop seems to be unable to handle the speed.
    tst,
    1. Ok, I will change this
    2. Thank you for pointing this out. I implemented your technique and have some increased performance.
Still not the speed I would expect from LabView. The system is 'stable' with a sample rate up to 100 Hz, increasing this makes my queue overflow.
I must be doing something else wrong... Anymore ideas?

  • The Longer it goes the slower it gets!

Hello can anyone help me with this problem which is starting to drive me nuts.(deep breath here goes)
I originally had a problem with my broadband dropping out so after a long call to bt offshore and going through the broadband  a-z of fault finding manual with them they eventually after nearly a week  sent an engineer out.
He arrived checked line and said there was a problem went to cabinet/exchange came back and lo and behold my speed went up from 3-4 meg to a very healthy for me 6+.(Only have master socket in house and he replaced face plate at same time )i was very happy.
Now the problem seems to be that the longer i am connected the slower the speed goes/gets and as soon as it resets itself or i restart it the speed is great.I was using a netgear dg834 version 4 with a custom firmware but because bt couldn't originally diagnose data as i had a third party router i got my homehub 2 out and started using that but the same thing was happening with both so i rang Bt to try and get a HH3 thinking it's their best hub and could possibly solve the problem  but even though i have been a loyal customer for over 10 years with them they refused as apparantly when i renewed my deal with them i should have asked for one as they do not give them out proactively and i could buy one for half price if i wished,i didn't .I did buy one from a well known auction site brand new for £20 + postage and set it up and it is the same result.
i noticed the noise margin was high and posted my findings a little while ago on here and was advised to wait 3 days and was then given a link to the mods about resetting noise margin which they duely did but the problem persists.
The errors on the FEC & CRC are really high (is this normal?) and i am wondering if this could be my problem as the bigger the errors are so the slower it becomes here's my stats at the mo and it's very slow and if i reset it i know the speed will be back to normal but i realise restating a router all the time is no solution so if someone could help i would be grateful.thank you.ps unable to get a speedtester reading at the mo because its struggling to load page.

  • The longer I use it the slower it gets

This is one top quality browser it seems to be getting choked with only 2x tabs open. How can I speed thing's up as safarispeed plug in is installed and whats happening to it?
    Help would be appreciated
    Nb

Restarting Safari is not the only way to clear up it's memory usage. You can also clear the cache by clicking on 'Safari', then scrolling down to 'Empty Cache...' This comes in real handy at times. Also, to speed up Safari a bit in general, it really helps to minimize how many items are in your Bookmarks Bar, and to organize all of your favorites into folders as well.
Oh, and another thing... clearing your 'other forms' in the Autofill. All of this information takes up ample space and memory over time.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPhoto Editing Incredibly Slow

I've been using iPhoto for a while now, and have been taking lots of pictures, my library getting so big I had to move it to an external drive.
The more I edit, mostly just using Enhance and Crop, the slower it gets. Now, even outside of the editing, just when previewing (with spacebar), I can barely move from one photo to the next without getting a pinwheel for a while, and even having to restart iPhoto a couple of times.
I've tried rebuilding all of the thumbnails and cache etc, but am looking for other ideas to speed up my experience.
    Thanks for your help!
    Jake

How much free space do you have on your boot drive? It's advised to have a minimum of 10 GB of free space for optimal performance.
Some things you can do to speed up iPhoto:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select the last three options.
The key option here is the last one. But do all three.
2 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and reset the preferences as described below.
3 - in iPhoto's General preferences turn off "Show item counts"
4 - in iPhoto's Appearance preferences do not check Outline or Drop Shadow
5 - in iPhoto's Sharing preferences uncheck all options.
6 - in iPhoto's Web preferences set "Check for new published photos" to Manually.

  • Longer I work, slower it gets

Everything was fine until this week, then slow, slower, stop.
The longer I use it the slower it gets, until after about an hour it stops responding all together.
My iBook has had no problems. Very little software loaded. At least 15 GB of hard drive space. I use it for web, mail and occasional graphics work.
Its a 700 mhz G3 with 640 RAM. I have 3 users set up, 1 for parents and 1 for each kid. We use a wireless network in the house as well. We almost exclusively use the power cord, since the battery only seems to hold about a 30 minute charge.
I have not reset the pmu.
    Any ideas?

I would recommend buying an external FireWire drive so you can keep a current backup available in case of hard drive failure. It won't cost you much more than that $100 backup you're paying for.
If you leave the iBook on 24/7, leave it open and just sleep the display, there are nightly, weekly, and monthly automatic maintenance routines which run. It's really all I do to maintain my system.
If I have a problem which makes me have to do a hard shutdown, I always start up in Safe Mode to repair the drive and then restart normally and repair permissions.
I do keep a fairly recent backup (once a month is usually good enough for me, but if you do a lot of important stuff, you may need to back up a lot more often than that).
That's my entire maintenance routine. I do have DiskWarrior on hand for emergencies, and it's saved my hard drive more than once, but that was before I had the external drive with my cloned backup. (Using SuperDuper!)
An Archive and Install can sometimes salvage a drive without completely erasing it. If the erase is necessary, though, it's a simple matter to copy the clone back to your hard drive after erasing the drive.

  • I have an HP Pavilion p7xt that "flashes" when playing Solitaire. Longer I play it, slower it gets.

I have an HP Pavilion p7xt that "flashes" when playing Windows Solitaire. The longer I play it, the slower it gets. It's done this almost since I bought it in January. Any ideas if this is a serious problem for the computer as a whole, or just a quirk in the game? Thanks.

The Solitaire game that I use, by the way, is the standard Windows 7 Home Premium version.
A couple of things happen. The whole screen goes dark for much less than a second, several times. The Solitaire game itself slows down, and clicking on a card may take two or three clicks to make it respond, while down below, the Solitaire icon on the pinned toolbar (I can't remember what MS calls it) keeps "bouncing" sideways, sometimes as many as seven or eight times as it looks like it's trying to "catch up."
Sorry that it's a little hard to describe. Thanks

10.7.4 is the latest update of MacOS X Lion. Run Software Update in System Preferences.
Since you state to run 10.7.2, Software Update will have to use the combo updater to bring it up to 10.7.4. This will entail a large download that will take some time so have patience. I suggest the following steps:
Restart the Mac, press and hold Command-R to start up in Recovery Mode (More info: http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/ ).
If needed, select the desired language to move to the next screen (only if it is the first time in Recovery Mode).
Select Disk Utility in the bottom of the list, Continue...
Choose the hard disk drive device on the list ( xxx.xx GB APPLE HDD ...) by clicking on it.
Click on Repair Disk button, wait for it to finish.
Choose the Lion boot volume, Macintosh HD, by clicking on it.
Click the Repair Disk button, wait for it to finish. If any errors are found and the process does not end with a "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." message, click on Repair Disk again.
Click on the Repair Disk Permissions button. This will take awhile to finish.
Quit Disk Utilities, choose Restart from the menu.
Now run Software Update in System Preferences, choose to apply all missing updates. This will take quite awhile, depending on how fast your Internet connection is. The Mac will need to be restarted when the updating is done.
Run Software Update again to have Safari updated to the latest version. This is necessary since Safari 5.1.7 needs OS X 10.7.4 to be running already.

  • Is this a more financial-able way to get the iPhone?

I have a terrible env touch and I'm not due for an upgrade until the end of november 2011. I realize that if I want the iPhone now, I'd have to buy it at the retail price for $650. However, I know that I can cancel my line and then open a new line for $10 and they'll give me the iPhone for $200, right?
I think the verizon helper my dad was talking to told him that to cancel my current line, it'd be a $125 cancellation fee ... but I was reading on the internet that it's $175? Can someone clarify which one it is? I know for a smartphone it's $350 but obviously the env touch isn't a smartphone.
So i'm figuring, $125 cancellation fee, $10 for a new line, $214 (tax) for the iphone will all add up to $349... this is surely a better way to go than to pay $700 for the iPhone -- then again this plan seems too good to be true, can anyone elaborate?

No you don't.  I cancelled and opened another line less than 5 mins later.
i tend to believ the 60 day rule and think that you got lucky with a rep that didn't know what he or she was doing. the reason i think this is because i COULD SWEAR that last night 2-3 people posted that they did this as well. now those posts are gone? and the ones pointing to the 60 day rule are here. just my theory. there are also other threads on this topic and they all seemed to state that there is a 60 period that, if you try to open a new account, verizon just reinstates the old contract.
edit---nevermind. aparently the poster has started 2 of the exact same threads???

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

I adobe acrobat 7.0 professional. When I open or save a PDF it reverts to Adobe Reader XI. How can I change that to the pro as it has far more editing options.

You may want to keep Reader. You may want to select Acrobat as your default, but be able to click on a PDF (or PDF link) to open in Reader when needed. There are likely some PDFs that will not open correctly in AA 7 because of new features folks add. Just because it opens in Reader XI does not mean it is in the new format, but just that is the default opening you have. To tell the type of file, you have to open the PDF and check the properties (ctrl-D) and check Description>PDF version.

  • My macbook works well while connected to the charger, but using the battery it gets really slow

My macbook pro 2011 yosemite 10.10.1, (2,3 GHz Intel Core i5 / 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB) recently started to present a problem that when using only the battery, it gets really slow, but connected to the charger, it operates normally. I have already taken to a technical assistance but was not presented any problem in the battery. And when I open activity monitor it shows that the kernel_task process uses almost 100% CPU and so is almost 0% idle, so it is almost impossible to use the computer (using the battery). Is there anything I can do to prevent this process using 100% CPU?

My recommendation for a SMC reset was initiated by your posts indication poor performance when under battery power.  Often a SMC reset will correct bad battery behavior but apparently not in your case.
Look at this article and see if there are any possible hints for correction of the problem:

If not, the the best option will be an Apple store genius bar appointment.
