Multicast dropped and invalid packets

Hi,
I've read all I can on the cisco.com site and not found a good explanation of dropped and invalid IGMP packets.
This output is displayed from a cat os 'show igmp statistics', dropped packets and also invalid packets.
What are these and what can cause them??
Thanks

Hello David,
do you happen to see entries in your logs such as:
%MCAST-6-IGMP_PKT_DROPPED: IGMP: IGMP Queue full (high packet rate/CPU busy), dropped [dec] packet(s) in last 5 minutes
According to CCO, ´this message indicates that the IGMP packet queue is not able to accommodate additional packets. Any additional packets will be dropped without processing.
Recommended Action: Reduce the IGMP packet rate to prevent packets from being dropped´
You might want to try and enable IGMP Snooping (set igmp enable) on your switch, in order to reduce the number of IGMP packets sent...

GP

  • [RUIAUTO] Invalid Packet State needs to go away...

    Hi yall, frustrated to my wits' end here. Long story short: Have had MIFI 4510L for over a year now, 2 months ago started noticing disconnects while playing Eve Online, at first they were random and just mildly annoying. As time wore on they got worse eventually escalating to a point where i would get d/c'd multiple times per hour. Learned how to check my logs and find this:

    So I called verizon, and have received a completely new replacement device, new SIM card, heck I even purchased an antennae system that gives me constant great connection to EvDO service, and though i did notice the frequency of the errors drop when I got the new device, im still dealing with multiple errors per hour here, in fact, I had one just now as I write this. I have tried all the different levels of resets in the world, and I'm starting to think this is just going to have to be my internet experience, found a 9 month old thread about this same problem, where it appears simply upgrading the firmware helped the guy, running at full updated firmware on my machine though.
    At first I was afraid it was software related, since it seemed like it started whenever I started playing Eve Online, however, my girlfriend spends time on the internet on her computer when I'm not on Eve and the errors still continue, though not as noticeably when you're just browsing the internet(Eve really hates it when you change your external IP during the middle of play, I'm bringing this issue to the developers as well).
    So I guess the only other probable cause for this problem is a problem with the cell towers in the area? I don't know, I'm just reaching for answers here, this is my only way to have internet with above dial-up speeds, so it looks like I'm just going to have to grin and take it...thank you for your consideration!

        Good afternoon, ash811-
    I'm sorry to learn of the difficulties this is causing you. I understand how this could be mildly to very annoying! What operating system are you using, Windows or Mac? Also, which version? Did you hear back from the developers of the online game yet? I did research and found nothing related to any recent software version for the 4510L. Please ensure the MiFi has the latest software update (steps: http://bit.ly/RrpmPY ). Additionally, please make sure there is no conflicting antivirus or firewall/security on the computer. Keep me posted!
    Thank you,

  • Invalid packet length error in logs

    For over a week now I’ve been getting the following error in my log once a minute:
    Invalid packet (too large) length=17247
    I’ve seen it stop for maybe an few hours a couple times but otherwise it’s constant. Anyone know how to track down who or what is sending this invalid packet?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    your router will drop the over sized packet if the DF flag is set.  However, it will return a message to the originating device showing packet oversize.
    You can try setting the router logging to debug and verbose.  This should return the originating IP.  One other thing that you can do is take a close look at any devices  that you have setup.
    Additionally, you can try changing the MTU on the router but this could result in performance
    degradation.  Alternatively, if you can identify the originating device, you can try changing
     the MTU there as well.

  • Whats causing Input drops and overruns between 3502lap and 3750g switch?

    At our HQ we have 6 3502 LAPs terminating into a 3750g switch stack.  We have an issue with performance in some instances which I think is RF related, however in doing all due diligence I am looking at the Ethernet layer as well between the switch and the AP's in the area's of the performance issues.
    I am seeing some Input Overruns and Input Drops on all of the AP's at the HQ location.  One I am looking at now has 330 overrun and 34564 input drops.  I have other remote sites and when checking those interface statistics they have 0 input drops and overruns.  The other difference is that the remote sites are in flex connect mode whereas the HQ is in local mode.
    Are the input drops and overruns a concern, or is it just because there's a lot more traffic at the HQ?
    Thanks for your assistance!

    Ok here is the port this AP is connected to that I referenced above.

    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/30
     description Access Port Connection to Cisco Lightweight AP
     switchport mode access
     ip access-group acl1 in
    end
    Doesn't look too bad on the switch, but on the cisco wireless controller for this AP in question (and others in the HQ) it shows the drops and overruns.  I uploaded a picture of that screen.
    If I change it to local, will it still allow other VLAN's through or would I have to change the switchport to a trunk?

  • Invalid Packet Length?

    Hi,
    We have a SessionBean that is being called very often. Whenever
    the SB method is called, we do a select from dual to access a
    sequence.
    After a while, we start getting a SQLException (see below for
    stacktrace) with "Invalid Packet Length" message.
    The first exception is on the PreparedStatement.close() and the
    following exception are in the Connection.prepareStatement()
    method.
    Does anybody have an idea of the cause of the problem?

  • Ping drop and general Failure on wireless

    Hi all,
    I am facing the ping drop and general failure error when I am connected to AP and try to do ping any IP with the ping size is 5500 bytes.Print screen shot is attached for your reference.
    Product/Model Number                 : AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9
    Regards

    yes that is what I mean. And you cannot figure out if this is happening or not. Don't rely on the wireless connection icon on windows.
    It can be possible that your wireless adapters notices that the RF is busy and there were a few packet drops so it reconnects quickly. It's usually transparent to applications but if you are running a ping at that time ...
    In any case, conclusion is : check your RF environment. How many APs around ? a lot of traffic ?

  • Synonyms cant be recompiled when the tables are dropped and recreated?

    hi
    i have a synonym pointing to a table .
    1)when i drop and recreate a table.............
    isnt it enough to recompile the synonym? do i need to drop the synonym as well and recreate again?
    2) when i add new columns to a table will the synonym also show up the new column?
    thanks in advance
    raj

    Recompiled is probably not quite the correct word. Re-validated is more like it.
    Notice that the synonym goes invalid when the table is dropped, but does NOT become valid when the table is recreated.
    That happens the first time it's used (similar to invalid stored procedures).
    SQL> drop table t;
    Table dropped.
    SQL> select object_name, status
      2  from user_objects
      3  where object_name = 'T_SYN';
    OBJECT_NAME                    STATUS
    T_SYN                          INVALID
    SQL> create table t(c number);
    Table created.
    SQL> select object_name, status
      2  from user_objects
      3  where object_name = 'T_SYN';
    OBJECT_NAME                    STATUS
    T_SYN                          INVALID
    SQL> select * from t_syn;
    no rows selected
    SQL> select object_name, status

      3  where object_name = 'T_SYN';
    OBJECT_NAME                    STATUS

  • JMF and RTP packet size

    I have the sample program AVTransmit3 compiled and successfully transmitting the contents of a WAV file to a multicast address. However, I want to put the data on the wire according to the G711 spec, which is u-law and 50 packets per second.
    I've been playing with the source code, but thus far I'm unable to achieve this. No matter what I do, the packets are larger (have more samples) than what I need.
    Anybody out there that has sent G711 data over the network successfully?
    Thanks.

  • Error message: ni: A frame has been dropped and the acqusition has been canceled

    I use a NI PCIe 1433 framegrabber with a Basler spl4096-140km line camera.
    Using triggered acqusition with an external source, I can get a framerate of 68500Hz in NI-MAX.
    When I use the Matlab image acquisiton toolbox to acquire data, I however very often get the error message: 'ni: A frame has been dropped and the acqusition has been canceled". This happens even at much lower framerates (20kHz) and only seems to go away when acquiring data slowly.
    Computer is a Dell Precision 7600 and I assume there should be no issues with RAM or the PC being slow. The error does not go away when reducing the data size (i.e. reducing the ROI to one single point that is readout).
    Do you have any pointers why this error message appears and what can be done about it?
    Thank you!
    Reto

    Hello,
    I encountered the same problem and I think it is because the allowcation of storage in matlab cannot catch up with that of the camera so that it will drop frames when the buffer is full.
    I also want to know how to solve that.

    Hi All,
    what is the difference between drop and create index & rebuild index ? i think both are same...Please clarify if both are same or any difference...

    Both are same. Rebuilding an index drops and re-creates the index.

    This command takes around 10 min for selected indexes.
    Testing the below took 2 min for 6 or 7 indexes.
    Drop Index Index_Name;
    Create Index Index_Name on Table_name (Col1, col, ..);
    I know that indexes might not be used, and the application performance would be degraded with stale or non-existent stats. But our production and all our test DBs have procedures that daily gather stats on them.
    I tested the below script to make sure that execution plan does not change:
    SELECT ProductID, ProductName, MfrID FROM PRODUCT WHERE MFRID = 'Mfr1';
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)|
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 37 | 3737 | 13 (0)|
    | 1 | TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID| PRODUCT | 37 | 3737 | 13 (0)|
    | 2 | INDEX RANGE SCAN | PRODUCT_X1 | 37 | | 3 (0)|
    dropping PRODUCT_X1 and recreating it only changed the cost to 12.
    Gathering the stats again took the cost to 14.
    No performance issues were faced and index was still used.
    My question is: Is there any oracle recommendation that requires rebuilding the index instead of dropping and recreating it?
    Is there any side effect to my approach that I did not consider?
    Thank you

    I am currently redesigning a weekly process (weekly coz we pre determined the rate of index fragmentation)Nice. Not only have you defined and located index fragmentation but have also measured the rate at which it occurs.
    Could you please share your definition of index fragmentation, how you detect it, and how you measure the rate of change of this fragmentation.
    I am curious about all this since it can be repeatedly shown that Oracle btree indexes are never fragmented.

    The old process has proved to be able to fix and maintain reports performance.Great so you have traces and run time statistics from before and after the rebuild that highlight this mysterious fragmentation and show how the fragmentation caused the report to be slow, details what effects the rebuild had that caused the reports to perform better.
    Please share them as these would be an interesting discussion point since no one has been able to show previously how an index rebuild caused a report to run faster or even show the fragmentation that caused it to be slow in the first place.
    I mean it would be a pity if the report was just slow because of an inefficient plan and compressing an index or two that probably shouldn't be used in teh first place appears to temporarily speed it up. Could you imagine rebuilding indexes every week, because some developer put the wrong hint in a query? That would be pretty funny.

  • Connection keeps dropping and speed is getting slo...

    Hi,
    I have had infinity over a week now and after having a speed of 50M and a ping of 17 each day it has dropped and is now iro 34M and ping of 37.  What is of more concern is my connection is keeps dropping.  Has happened every day - DSL light going off on Infinity box and homehub.  I did a speed check on BT wholesale and it seems my ip profile has been dropped down to 36M.
    I am connecting wireless and have tried a different channels, tried using DNS even tried a new HH3 as I had a spare.  But as yet no improvement.  Anyone any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    You could have a fault, to check do the following.
    1. Visit this link https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/secure/faults/tracking.do;jsessionid=2W59QB2TvDGLZST41KJS2T...
    2. Make an account with your BT Account number, this is different to your forum account.
    3. Once the account is created re-visit the link from instruction #1 and login
    4. Now you want to click on "Check my line now"
    5. You should see your telephone number in a box, make sure that box is ticked if not enter your number.
    6. Click on "Check my line" once step 5 has been completed
    7. Make sure the details are correct, select the most relavant problem to you. I find the most common is the top selection "I've removed all equipment...."
    8. Finally, Click "Check my line" **MAKE SURE NO ONE IS USING THE PHONE** Once completed, post the results contact a mod if a fault is found.
