Multicast route enabling

I am doing video conference coding using jmf in internet.Instead of doing peer to peer,is it possible to do it in multicast?if yes, what about multicast route enabling?is thier any charge for enabling?Any software for enabling is available or we have to ask isp providers?please help.....

is it possible or not...pLease help

    Hi Reza,
Thank you for your quick reply, and for putting the record staright. As such, a helpful rating was provided
PS: Feel free to help me one more time if you happend to know folllow on this query :)>
I guess that the disributed function has been included in the standard mulitcast routing command because the key word is no longer needed. Or perhaps this platform does not support this at all.#
Once again , thank you for your help above.

  • Help required in configuring multicast routing

    Hi,
We have two 2 servers and 200 clients.
2 servers are in one vlan, 200 clients are in another vlan.
first server will send data to second server with multicast address 234.5.6.7
second server will send data to 200 clients with multicast address 234.5.6.8
first server is able to send data to second server.
but second server is not able to send data to clients.
If we put clients in same vlan, second server is able to send data to clients.
So we understood that multicast routing needs to be enabled in L3 switch.
    Switch Model: 3550
    IOS version: 12.1(19)EA1a
Any help in configuration required for this.........
    Regards
    SKRAO

    Hi Skrao,
Does your client vlan and server vlan exist on same layer 3 switch if yes then perform this config and it should work..
    On global config mode
    ip multicast-routing distributed
On interface vlan config (for both client vlan and server vlan)
    ip pim sparse-dense-mode
You can very well fine tune later.Try this and update if it worked.

  • Stub Multicast Router on ASA

    Hi,
I'm swapping out a PIX, IOS 6.3 with an ASA 5520 v8. The PIX has the following 2 commands in it's config:
    multicast interface outside
    multicast interface inside
These commands do not exist on the ASA. I do not wish to enable multicast routing. What commands on the ASA are equivalent to the multicast commands on the PIX?
    Thanks
    Yolande

    hostname(config-if)#igmp
    hostname(config-if)#igmp forward interface outside
This will enable the inside interface for IGMP forwarding and configure
all multicast requests coming from the inside interface and forward them
    to the outside.
This should be it, remember to remove all your PIM configurations as PIM
and IGMP Stub Multicast Routing are not simultaneously supported.

  • Multicast routing daemons under Solaris 10 ?

    hi all
i'm actually looking for a multicast routing daemon, for solaris 10 x86.
    any hint ?
i tried to search for "mrouted", but it seems there's no recent version (last one seems to be for solaris 2.5, and sparc naturlly)
    help !
    thanks :)

nm, i found. my collegs gave me the trick.
quagga + zebra can do it.
i just configured zebra (via quagga), it's like an IOS/Cisco router, and you can setup your comp as a router, and setup static routes, multicast and all.
    topic closed :) thanks.

  • Setting up Multicast Routing for Imaging on HP Switches

I've just spent a bit of time getting multicast imaging to work on our
HP ProCurve switched network so I thought I'd post what was necessary
so if anyone else had to look for it then they'd have some help.
You'll need a switch capable of routing such as a 5300 series that is
already routing regualr IP traffic. By default IGMP routing is disabled
so that multicast traffic will not cross VLANs. Here's how to change
    that:
Log into the 5300 in Manager mode (aka Admin)
type "config" /goes into config mode
type "ip multicast routing" /sets up IGMP routing
type "router pim" /sets up Protocol Independant Multicast routing
type "vlan *" /where * is a VLAN numeric ID
type "ip igmp" /sets up IGMP routing on that VLAN
type "ip pim" /sets up PIM routing on that VLAN
Repeat those last three steps for all necessary VLANs
type "exit" /to get back out of config mode - you may have to do
    that more than once
type "wri mem" to save the config changes
Then go out to any other switches in the network path for multicasts
    and login in Manager mode
    type "config"
type "vlan *" /where * is VLAN numeric ID
type "ip igmp" /turns on IGMP routing
Repeat those last two steps for all VLANs that need it
type "exit" /to get back out of config mode - you may have to do
    that more than once
type "wri mem" to save the config changes
That's it and it meant I went from "Session Master not found" to "New
Image successful". I hope it helps somebody.

  • Multicast routing issues when a subinterface is configured

Strange issue here. Cisco and the vendor are unable to help so far...
Most of our layer 3 lives on core switches. However, we have  a couple sites off our WAN connected via  Cisco routers. In these offices, we can not get paging to work.
I  setup a lab and have finally determined what is at least causing the  issue. My lab "branch" has  the same problems, but I can resolve the  problem by removing the sub-interface off the router.
On my LAN side  of the router, with this  config, everything works fine.
    #--- THIS WORKS ---#
    R1#
    ip pim rp-address 192.168.251.254

     ip pim sparse-dense mode
    SW1#
     gig 0/1 (connects to R1 g0/0)

When I apply this config...everything breaks. The phone goes off

I have tried this on 2 different model routers, each with different IOS versions.  The same issues follow each router. What is it about the  sub interfaces?
Any insight? Calling all multicast experts! Thanks!

    Hi,
creating sub-interface should not create any difference here. Only difference i can see earlier switch was working in l2 mode now it is participating in multicast routing as SVI is configured and pim neighborship established. Have you configured RP address on SW1. Please share below outputs from both devices
    - running config
    - show ip mroute <group>
    - show ip pim rp address mapping

  • Multicast Router Settings

What type of multicat does JMS use? IGMP or EVMRP? I am trying to enable the right one on the routers in my network.
    Thanks,
    Cindi

Yes, but keep the following in mind:
The Multicast Rate option sets the threshold throughput level a wireless client must obtain in order to be "accepted" by the base station. The lower this value, theoretically, the greater number of clients that can connect, especially those at greater distances from the base station. At the opposite end, the higher this number, only those wireless clients that can achieve the higher throughput value will be able to connect. The multicast rate is not related to what type of equipment you are using. The multicast rate has no effect on the maximum data rate used by the base station. It only affects the lowest rate at which the base station will keep a connection open. The multicast rate is dependent on how much RF noise you have in the area. Remember that increasing the multicast rate causes a decrease in effective range.

  • WLC - AP Groups - Multicast - Bonjour - Apple TVv3

    Good Morning
first off - Should start off by saying I have followed the Apple Bonjour deployment guide [except for interface group] portion
I have searched high and low, here and there to no avail.

I am aware that the bonjour gateway IOS may or may not come out in Oct/Nov 2012, which maybe my only option at this point.
Is this not working because of my AP groups setup or have I misssed something
I can only get bonjour to work if multicast - unicast mode is selected, but our network slowly grinds to a halt, so it is not an option
when I first connect to the wireless I see 1 bonjour device for about 3 minutes and then disappears.
I can not see the appletv at all with an ipad, airplay does not appear at all.
    We have the following setup.
2 campuses - Campus 2 is simular setup, but WLCs higher model and ios 7.2 and clients and subnets are double

Have you enabled multicast mode on the controller ?
If so, in what mode ? Unicast or multicast ?
If you selected multicast mode, do you see the controller joining the original stream and sending it to the LWAPP distribution group to the other APs ?

  • Airtunes on different subnets - Why not?

I've been googling for the past week in order to try and find out if it is possible to use airtunes on different subnets before I actually buy the device only to find out that it does not satisfy my needs. For various reasons I can not have all my machines into the same subnet.
Searching revealed that because the Airtunes relies on Bonjour which in turn relies onto mDNS (i.e. mullticast) it simply can not be used in two different subnets. I've read that it cannot be done everywhere. I just can't understand the actual reason. Being a network engineer for more than 9 years I find it hard to accept that if both local subnets on my 3640 have multicast routing enabled it still won't do the trick. Can anyone shed some light into this? Unfortunately I still don't own the device so I can not do any tests...
Any help would be much appreciated.
    TIA,

    GrSpider -
Bonjour (and mDNS) work perfectly well across multiple subnets so long as your router is configured to support (i.e. route) multicast traffic. I use Bonjour on a constant basis across three subnets with both Mac and Windows platforms for a variety of service location purposes (printing, file sharing, streaming media) and have no problems whatsoever.
The AirTunes limitation you're referring to is an Apple policy decision, not a technical issue. It appears they've restricted iTunes<-->Airport streaming media connectivity to connections that originate and terminate on the same subnet. I assume they feel it's a mechanism to help enforce digital rights management.
Just to summarize: I routinely print to my Airport Express units across subnets, and share my iTunes music library to non-AirPort devices on different subnets; I just don't (can't) share my iTunes music library to an Airport Express on a different subnet.
That one limitation aside, they've been a great addition to my network.
    FWIW.

  • Video Conferencing in internet

I am doing video conference coding using jmf in internet.Instead of doing peer to peer,is it possible to do it in multicast?if yes, what about multicast route enabling?is thier any charge for enabling?Any software for enabling is available or we have to ask isp providers?please help.....

I am doing the Desktop Sharing feature with JMF. It's working fine but the pblm is with the CPU usage, which is 100% while sending the captured screen to the client machines. It affects the other modules which is integrated with this Desktop Sharing
I am capturing the screen in the following way
    DataSource = Manager.createDataSource(new MediaLocator("screen://"));
The format in which I am sending the screen is,
    VideoFormat vf=new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.JPEG_RTP,size,Format.TRUE,Format.byteArray,2);
Can any one suggest a way to reduce the CPU usage
    Thanks in advance

  • Apple MAC Bonjour and Cisco Aironet 1142

    Hi All,
       Hope all is well.
We have a strange issue with our two Aironet 1142s and how it interacts with our Apple laptops. When we try printing to a printer in one room connected to (let's call it Aironet 2) we can't. We attempt to browse using Bonjour (Apple's protocol) to the printer and can't. HOWEVER.. we can print and browse fine when we're using Aironet 1.
Another strange thing is when we're on Aironet 2 we can ping to the printers just fine, just can't browse to is using Bonjour nor print of course.
    Please help! Any inputs appreciated.
    -Tom

    Natalia,
You need to do the following to make Bonjour printing to work.
Have multicast enabled on the wired side for all the vlans involved (management, ap manager, client, APs). if any of these vlans are not properly setup, then bonjour will not work.
    Wired Side:
    Router:
    ip multicast-routing (enable multicast globally)
For each vlan interface enable ip pim sparse-dense-mode:
    conf t
    interface vlan x
ip pim spare-dense-mode (there may be a syntax error, dont have router access at the moment)
also you may need to configure a rendevouz point which you can set to layer 3 interface of the management vlan.
For example (management ip 10.1.1.10 and g/w is 10.1.1.1)
ip pim rp-address 10.1.1.1 (again syntax maybe incorrect)
Note: you will have to configure the same on all routers in between the WLC and the APs
Also make sure that the ipads/iphones and wireless printers are connected to the same ssid (same vlan). Bonjour uses link local address which are not routable.
on the WLC, set up multicast multicast mode with a unique mutlicast ip address. Also, on the multicast tab, Controller > multicast > enable global multicast.
There is a catch here. You will mostly likely have to turn off IGMP snooping on the controller (controller > multicast > disable igmp snooping).  I have learnt it the hard way that some of the apple devices dont send the igmp join reports.

  • BonJour not working WLC5508, I tried other forums instructions

Hi All, I have the attached diagram and I followed the instructions from another posts / forum cases and the Apple TV is still not working.
    My questions are:
1.-The WLC controller and AP must be in the same subnet?. This is not my case, the AP 3500 is operating in a remote location and I have a centralized WLC 5508.
    2.- I already configured the Controller --- > General --- > Broadcast forwarding (enable) + AP Multicast Mode (Multicast / IP: 239.20.226.197).
3.-I already configured the Controller --- > Multicast ---- > Enable Global Multicast Mode (selected) + Enable IGMP Snooping (selected) + Enable MLD Snooping (selected). Please see the attachment.
4.-Do I have to configure something in the Mobility Management --- > Multicast Messaging --- > (Enable Multicast Messaging + Local Group Multicast IP Address) ?????
The  Apple TV Device and Ipad are authenticated in the ISE using certificates with no issues and both got IP's from the DHCP for the WLAN Vlan assigned to the SSID activated (see pictures attached).
thanks in advance for any orientation,
    Abraham

#When both appletv and ipad on wireless on same ssid and vlan then Multicast to Unicast works perfectly without any wired side configuration. Because the packet never leaves the wlc/hits the wired interface. To conserve RF bandwidth, if you prefer to use Multicast to Multicast for this scenario make sure to have Multicast routing enabled on wired side for all involved vlan interfaces from WLC. With M-U, wireless Multicast source and destination should be on same vlan for bonjour however AP and WLC can be on different vlan. Since the Multicast source and destination of the actual traffic belong to same vlan and it is also encapsulated on unicast capwap it will forward the packet without an issue, basically it dumps the Multicast traffic on same vlan.
#With the above scenario if you prefer to use Multicast to Multicast then keep the WLC Management, AP and Wireless client on WLC's management vlan. this way it doesn't require Multicast routing on wired side. So here, if AP is on different vlan than management then the intermediate wired device need to know how to dump the Multicast packet that is sourced from Management of wlc to AP's Multicast group address that's why we need the Multicast routing for WLC and AP vlan on wired side.
#AP Multicast - Multicast is required When we've wired apple device on same vlan like wireless then need to enable Multicast routing on wired side E2E for all the WLC involved vlan interfaces i.e, wired(wireless) client, AP, WLC management VLAN.
#Difference is, as WLC receives the actual multicast data packet, when using M-U it sends out the actual Multicast data packet encapsulated in unicast capwap to AP's ip (sourced from WLC's management interface ip) and with M-M enabled, it sends the actual Multicast data packet encapsulated in unicast capwap but send to Multicast AP group ip (sourced from Management ip of wlc) that is configured. It is applicable only for Downlink traffic ie., WLC to AP, the uplink is always unicast from wireless client to ap to wlc.

  • 5508 mDNS (Bonjour Gateway) Communication Error

    Hi all,
I have configured mDNS on my 5508 controller for AirPrint but clients are experiencing communication errors when trying to print to the device. I believe the config is accurate on the controller (8.0.100.0) and the device is visible:
Global multicast mode and IGMP snooping enabled
AP multicast mode (multicast): 224.0.0.251 (i'm not 100% sure this multicast address should be used according to a config document I have read)
Default mdns profile has been added to a single interface (which is a member of an interface group)
    P2P blocking is disabled
    Switch config:
ip multicast routing enabled and pim sparse-mode enabled under the vlan interface.
Any suggestion would be most welcome.
    Thanks.

Your multicast should be changed to 239.x.x.x, which maybe use the last three octets of your wlc management ip.  Make sure that you have both AppleTV and AirTunes enabled for bonjour services (for Mirror), but make sure you have the specific services for that printer.  Make sure mDNS Global Snooping is also enabled.  This is really all you need as long as nothing is blocking bonjour.  You should also see the devices in the mDNS Domain Names.
