Multicast WLC5508 version 7.6

Hi all,
I have recently upgraded my controllers from WLC 4404's to some 5508's. We had multicasting configured on the previous controllers for our IPTV solution. Now that we have upgraded to the new WLC's this has stopped working over the wireless. The controllers are configured the same as the old WLC's and the solution still works over the wired network so we know its an issue with the WLC's themselves. The majority of the AP's we have on site are 1242's.
Do I need to do something different to enable multicasting to work? I have been scratching my head for 2 day's now
Cheers
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
See whether below post helps you

Enable video stream feature if you want to have good quality multicast service over wireless. Since you have 1242 (not 802.11n capable) it may not give huge advantage, but still worth

  • MDT 2013, WDS, Server 2012 R2 multicasting not working rc = -1073740940

    Hi,
I have been reading all over the internet and not able to find an issue that we are having.  We have setup MDT 2013 and WDS on a Server 2012 R2 server.  Unicast has been working fine for us and we have the PXE boot working great too.  We have
recently tried setting up Multicast.  Every time we try and deploy an image we receive the following error when the client tries to run the multicast.  I have pulled this error from the ltiapply.log on the client.  The error is:
Multicast transfer could not be completed, rc = -1073740940, falling back to using \\mdtserver\deploymentshare\operating systems.  We have also made sure we have IGMP enabled on all our switching and VLan's.  We have tested with mcast.exe
and Wireshark and the packets are hitting the machine for multicast but we always seem to get this error.  Any help would be great.
    Thanks,

MDT logs the output from the wdsmcast.exe command itself within the bdd.log file.
    A quick scan reveals:
Multicast transfer to directory: C:\MININT\Operating Systems\BaseWin7x64_6_17_2014

"Not a properly formed account name"?!?!?  What?
MDT will pass the user account credentials to the wdsmcast.exe command using the USERID value.
SO... What is UserID set to?
    Property USERID is now = vdl-mdt\helpdesk ZTIGather 7/29/2014 8:27:55 AM 0 (0x0000)
Whoops! UserID should not contain the domain name, instead it should just contain the user name.

  • Multicasting Issues - MDT 2013 - Server 2012 R2

    Hello!
I'm having some issues with multicasting on a large university network. Our setup is like this:
WDS role setup on VM with Server 2012 R2
Deployment shares hosted on the same VM - Using MDT 2013 to manage Deployment Shares
VM is on a different VLAN from client computers. - IP Helpers to connect between the VLANs
    Multicast namespace was created successfully.
All switches between server and client are managed, IGMPv3 compatible, and have snooping enabled3
MDT Images are custom WIMs, with no setup files
When I run a deployment on any number of clients, I get the message saying "Attempting multicast transfer". The clients show up listed in the WDS Multicast Transmission. Then the clients drop off the server, and begin unicasting. Unicast speeds
are excellent. Our 10GB images copy in about 10 mins. But we plan to do 30-40 systems at a time, and I believe that could cause some issues with so many individual sessions running...
I've noticed under our network adapter properties that Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Protocol is unchecked. Not sure if that is related?
I have copied multicast information from the BDD.log file on one of the failed clients. That can be found below.
Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Edit: I likely posted this to the wrong place. I have reposted this to the MDT forum. Thanks!

  • Multicast fails: Cannot find the file specified

I have a deployment share that works great for unicasting, and I've now tried enabling multicast in preparation for a big rollout. The namespace was created successfully in WDS, and I've made sure my switches have IGMP snooping enabled, (multicast
with Ghost works), however the process always falls back to unicast.

Not sure what is going on here, not enough logging. Have you tried enabling WDS logging on the server side?
The WDSMCast.exe tool can't find the file on the server side, you might want to verify that the namespace was created correctly. The "DeploymentShare$" namespace should point to whatever local directory is on your machine.

  • Airpint cannot find HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP- Please help

I baught HP Laserjet 1536dnf a few months ago cause HP said that it is Airprint compatible. I actually went to a few stores just to get this last one in stock of the last store I visited. Till now, I still cannot get it to work and feel like a dumb buying this HP printer. If any of you or HP engineer can help ... please.
I actually did some research and testing on the configuration. There were few time that I was lucky to see the printer show up (shortly) and I can print one document and the printer is gone. Both my ipad and iphone cannot find it again afterward, even after rebooting.
I already updated my iOS to the latest version. Upgrade firmware on both Printer and my Zyxel router. Also, I replace the zyxel router with 3com (now back to zyxel). None of these help.
    _Here's my configurarition._
    Devices: iPhone 3GS (iOS4.3), iPad 1 (iOS4.3)
    Printer: HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP (latest firmware 20110405); Fixed IP;
    Router: ZyXel P-660HN-F1z (latest firmware Version: 3.70(BJI.4) | 03/22/2010)
Network Setting: All are in the same network 192.168.1.x
Would really appreciate if anyone can help me out.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thank you all, especially headsortails. Thought no one will answer this after so many months.
I actually check that link (http://gothick.org.uk/2010/05/16/getting-the-apple-iphone-remote-app-working-with-a-zyxel-router/) before but it didn't help me at the time. Now there are a few more replies that enlighten me.
I would summarize what I did as follow; for others who may have the same problem.
    1. Turn off my printer HP1536
    2. Since there were so many things I tried and lost track of them e.g. multicast, IP version, fixed IP address, disable firewall. First thing I did today is to reset my Zyxel router and set up things from scratch (not from the configuration backup).
    3. Under Zyxel menu Network > LAN > Advance Setup, I change the Multicast to IGMP-V3. This time I leave other fields untouched, so  RIP direction is set to None and RIP version is N/A.
    4. Under menu Wireless LAN > Advance Setup, I uncheck the IGMP Snooping.
    5. Turn on my HP printer and reboot both iPhone and iPad
Now I'm happy. I can print from my iphone, ipad, mac and PC. However, while testing, I found that sometime iphone may not found the printer if the ipad app printed something and hasn't quit. I guess it somehow lock the bonjour service. Anyway, I'll just mainly print from my ipad ... so I guess my problem is now solved. Thanks.

It seems your configuration on MSCHAP has some problem, so double check your PEAP-MSCHAPv2 configuration on both the client and the ACS. In ACS5.1, it should looks like:
in client, it should looks like:
BTW, what had you configured for group mapping? In your case, it seems not need it because in Authorization policy, you just used AD1:ExternalGroups instead of Identity Group.
If you can paste your configured AD parameter(General, Directory Groups, Directory Attributes), access policy(General, Allowed Protocol, Identity, Group Mapping, Authorization), all the steps for the failed auth(including Evaluating Service Selection Policy, Evaluating Identity Policy, Evaluating Group Mapping Policy,Evaluating Authorization Policy), it can help to troubleshoot your problem.

  • BBC/ITV HD etc. down the Phone Line vs Over the ai...

    Hi,
I've just had BT Infinity and prior to this I had and still have a Black BT Vision box and hadn't really realized I would get so many channels including HD channels down the phone line.
I'm curious though, how does the HD picture quality down the phone line compare to when compared to receiving through an aerial or satellite dish?
Which is best and which is worse?
Also, I upgraded to BT Infinity as Skype video calls would always drop out on my laptop after a bit when on BT Broadband using the HomeHub2. Sometimes I had to restart my computer as the dropout would also knock out the internet too and restarting it seemed to be the only way to bring it back. I experienced the same problems both with a wired connection and a wireless connection to my laptop.
Unusually if I try making a Skype video call using Wi-Fi using my mobile phone, the video call never dropped out.
Despite upgrading to BT Infinity and using the HH5, I'm still experiencing dropouts with Skype or receiving poor video and/or audio with it.
Could this therefore be a problem with my laptop or some settings or something?
If it could be laptop settings, could anyone advise me what settings I can change and how I can improve things?
    Kind Regards and Thanks.

There are a few factors that determine picture quality. Resolution, aspect ratio and compression being three main ones.
Freeview SD channels have never all been equal. They all tend to transmit 576 vertical lines, but horizontal resolution can vary to save bandwidth, 720, 704 or 544. Some also use higher rates of data compression to save bandwidth which usually results in a more blurred or blocky picture at times. 4:3 aspect ratio pictures can actually be better defined than 16:9 ones as the latter still use the same transmission resolutions but are stretched out by the TV or box. Some sneaky channels at times use a 16:9 or 14:9 window in the centre of 4:3 picture as black bars compress very nicely and save more bandwidth. The box or TV then sometimes zooms in as appropriate. The resulting picture is usually pretty rubbish.
Freeview HD channels normally represent 16:9 pictures and initially were transmitted at 1440x1080 (4:3) and stretched out. However, I believe they are now transmitted at 1920x1080 which is proper 16:9 (maybe someone could confirm this)? They use more efficient data compression techniques and transmit at a high enough bandwidth to look pretty great.
BT TV multicast SD channels look to me as though they are transmitted at 720x576. Not sure if they still sometimes represent a 4:3 picture when appropriate, but most modern TV content is now 16:9. The compression rate seems low and as the previous post says, compared to Freeview SD they look as good as (if not better than) the best quality Freeview SD channels such as BBC 1. I used to get Sky Sports and ESPN in SD via the TV aerial and the multicast SD versions definitely look much better.
Note: When I view the test channel 475 on my PC using VLC Player it says that channel is at 544x576. I'm guessing this low resolution only applies to the test channel though I have no way of checking on the BT Vision+ box?
BT TV multicast HD channels look very good. Again I have no way of checking the resolution, but I'm guessing they are at 1920x1080 with an aspect ratio always set to represent 16:9 pictures. The compression rate seems as low as the Freeview HD equivalents. I can't really see any difference between the Freeview HD and multicast HD channels on my Full-HD TV. All very high quality.
In simple non-tech speak. SD pictures are better than Freeview, and HD pictures are just as excellent.

  • How to protect a PIM-SM network from unauthorized pim routers and multicast sources?

    Hi,
we're using pim sparse mode in a customer network with catalyst 2/3/4/6K switches, all multicast routers are redundant with pim dr running for access subnets. RPs are configured with anycast rp.
    A) Is there any possiblity to prevent rogue pim routers/igmp queriers connected to host ports from getting connected to the legal pim routers and from getting involved in the local igmp traffic?
Maybe like DHCP Snooping used with DHCP. I read that in the latest Sup2T ios (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/15-2SY/config_guide/sup2T/15_2_sy_swcg_2T.pdf) there is a feature called 'ipv4 router guard' which does exactly what we're looking for:
'When configured, the Router Guard feature makes the specified port a host port only. The port is prevented from becoming a router port, even if a multicast router control packets are received. In addition, any control packets normally received from multicast routers, such as IGMP queries and PIM joins, will also be discarded by this filter.'
Afaik, PIM authentication isn't supported in current catalyst ios versions.
Using a normal port ACL is not an option in our case because of a management decision.
    B) Is there any possibility to prevent (on a per-subnet basis) rogue sources from sending multicast streams to legal multicast-groups?
Maybe, can I configure a svi of a host subnet or a host port to drop any incoming multicast stream while still accepting IGMP and sending out legal multicast streams?
Using 'ip pim accept-register' command on the rp is not an option because we've tons of legal sources which would end in an very huge error-prone acl
Unfortunately, a normal ACL is not an option here, too.
    Best Regards
    Thorsten

We use two pim routers in each host subnet for redundancy, they elect the PIM DR.
Does pim passive mode work here?
(Config Guide: If the ip pim passive command is configured on an interface enabled for IP multicast, the router will operate this interface in PIM passive mode, which means that the router will not send PIM messages on the interface nor will it accept PIM messages from other routers across this interface. The router will instead consider that it is the only PIM router on the network and thus act as the DR and also as the DF for all bidir-PIM group ranges. IGMP operations are unaffected by this command. ... The redundant PIM stub router topology is not supported. The redundant topology exists when there is more than one PIM router forwarding multicast traffic to a single access domain. PIM messages are blocked, and the PIM asset and designated router election mechanisms are not supported on the PIM passive interfaces.)
ip pim neighbor-filter maybe would work to prevent rogue pim routers to connect to the legal pim routers but wouldn't rogue pim routers still be able to manipulate the layer2 switch to send all igmp traffic to them and not to the legal pim routers?

  • Report server is not working in version 10.1.2....

    Hi all
From long time i am trying to run the report server in Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 (Production) without Network( IP) configuration. But i did not do it.But
its working fine with IP address. Is it possible to run report server without IP addresss? Help me out thanks in advance.

    In rwnetwork.conf in $oh/reports/
    - remove or commented the following
    <multicast channel="228.5.6.7" port="14021" timeout="1000" retry="3"/>
    - And then uncommented
    <namingService name="Cos" host="%NAMING_HOST%" port="%NAMING_PORT%"/>
    - replace the
%NAMING_HOST% with your computer name or specify an IP address
    %NAMING_PORT% with 14021
execute in the command line : namingservice.bat 14021
(To shutdown the namingservice, use : namingservice.bat 14021 shutdown)
try restarting the reports server and test ..
    hope it helps

OK, I did this once and did not follow the oracle docs
If you saved your targets.xml before you started you might save it by renaming it back.
(Double check to make sure you did not miss a rename)
Otherwise, all I have to offer is my rough notes:
    1. Backup the file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml.
    [oracle@ias02 emd]$ pwd
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/sysman/emd
    cp targets.xml targets.xmlbackup
    2. Modify the file targets.xml by changing all the occurrences of the wrong reports server name by the correct one.
    i.e. Replace rep_test_midtier with rep_new (4 places - changes)
Copy the conf file as follows: ( this will named different from system to system )
    cp /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_pia_oracleas.conf /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_fam.conf
    run this script:
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh rep_fam          (change rep_fam to new report server name)
    3.Update the changed configuration .
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn -v -d

  • Temporary wim-files for multicast transmissions still needed for WDS installation in Server 2012 R2?

    Acording to
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn281955.aspx one of the new features for WDS in Server 2012 R2 for multicast is:
Improved multicast deployment by eliminating the need for making a local copy of the install.wim file. You can apply the install.wim file while it is being downloaded without significant impact to the application process.
However, this doesn't seem to be activated by default and I still get the following error when installing one or more machines using multicast:
"Windows Setup cannot locate a valid hard drive to store temporary installation files." However, once I remove Multicast from this install image, it installs without any problems at all.
I have also noticed that while multicasting, the installation will use the "Copying Windows files" phase, while downloading and copying the install.wim (or whatever name it is) locally on the hard drive first, so this will require lots of space.
So the question is, how do you enable this new feature that should be a part of WDS in Server 2012 R2???

    Full version:
Following steps could help enable the feature:
    1.       Mount the boot image using dism.
    e.g.
    >dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\remoteinstall\boot\x64\images\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:c:\mount
    2.       Create a metadata file if no existing one. The metadata file should be in mountdir from the first step under mountdir\sources. And the file name should be: WdsClientMetadata.txt
    3.       Add entry to the metadata file: WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=true
    4.       Save changes and unmount the boot image
    e.g.
    >dism /unmounts-wim /mountdir:c:\mount /commit
Sorry for the late reply, but I had to test this thoroughly since I didn't get it working right away. I tried both the regedit you first mentioned, and later also creating a textfile in the "/index:2 boot.wim", both without any success. I noticed
that creating the sources\WdsClientMetadata.txt with the data "WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=true" gives me an error upon booting into WDS as follows (EUFI/IPv6-boot):
Same happens if I boot using IPv4 (an non-UEFI boot), except that there would be a plain IPv4-address instead in the error msg. Just for troubleshooting I tried writing WDS.Client.Multicast.WIM.Streaming.Enabled=false in the file instead, and WDS would throw
me the exact same error message. Once I delete the file sources\WdsClientMetadata.txt from the WDS/Boot image, the client boots ok, both for IPv4/IPv6. Disabling the firewall on the WDS didn't help, so something in the configuration is still missing? I'm getting
to a dead end here, and I suppose you're all out of advice on this one?
Thank you Shaon Shan for your great effort so far.

  • ASA Transparent mode multicast traffic in 8.2 and 8.4

    Hi,
When i configure 8.2 in trasparent mode and deploy the a network that was wrok on EIGRP after that i found the neighborship was stop when i allow the mutlicast address and prtocol on outside interface it was start the working But when i deploy an ASA with 8.4 IOS and then allow the multicast address and protocol both the interface (Inside and outside) after that it was start working.
So i want to know that what the reasion to allow multicast address and protocol on 8.4 IOS for both interface. I am not able to find any answer for this.

    Hi Mahesh,
By default ASA in transparent mode do not allow any packets not having a valid EtherType greater than or equal to 0x600. As per my knowledge this concept remain same for all versions of ASA. Most control plane protocols are denied.
ASA in transparent mode only allows ARP, broadcast traffic, TCP and UDP inspected unicast traffic.
For EIGRP to work through transparent firewall, we need to open ACLs in both direction for multicast and unicast both type of EIGRP traffic on all versions of ASA Firewall.

  • How to Setup Multicast Address on Solaris 2.6 (Back to the well again)

              Basic Cluster Query,
Several weeks ago, I was thrashing about trying to verify the syntax for setting
up a multicast address on Solaris 2.6 in preparation for implementing Weblogic
6.0 clustering. The command syntax was:
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} plumb
              ifconfig {interface}:{virtual#} {multicast_address} up
The commands succeeded on the first and second servers without errors, but unbeknownst
to me there were errors reported on the second host concerning duplicate address.
              The errors were:
unix: WARNING: IP: Hardware address '08:00:20:a6:ed:0a'
trying to be our address 237.000.000.008!
The server halted today after several weeks; however, it is not clear whether
the multicast address caused the halt. Neither Weblogic nor Sun documentation
have been helpful. Can anyone provide guidance on setting up multicast address
              on Solaris 2.6?
              Bewildered,
              Dan

    Dan,
I don't think that BEA specifically takes any stand regarding the
configuration of operating systems. The problem is that the
administration of Unix machines and networking is a very complex and
sensitive subject for most companies (e.g., they have entire departments
dedicated to this) and BEA tries not to enforce any more configuration
              specifications than it has to.
With regards to multicast, most newer versions of the major operating
systems (including Solaris) have support for multicast turned on "out of
the box". However, it is possible for your administrator to muck around
with your machine's network settings so that multicast does not work
properly or is disabled entirely. Most people in BEA support do not
know enough about low-level Unix TCP/IP administration to be able to
properly guide you to "configure multicast" if it is not working
properly. Even if they did, we wouldn't know what your administrator
might have done or why they did what they did so it is generally best to
get your Unix administrators involved because they really (should) have
the knowledge of the machine's configuration.
We do, however, provide a Java utility program called
utils.MulticastTest that can help you to determine whether or not
multicast is working correctly on your machine.
              Hope this helps,
              Robert
