Multicasting across 2948 and 2950 L2 switches

multicasting across the following routes yeilds different results:
2950---3508---6506---3508---2950 22mins
2950---3508---6506---3508---2948 146mins
2950---3508---2950 22mins
Is there an issue with 2948 switches?
TIA.

I'm going to try the following route:
2948---3508---2948

  • Buffer Misses on Cisco 2970 and 2950 switches

    Hi,
I am seeing a lot of big buffer misses, some small buffer misses and medium buffer misses on our 2970 and 2950 switches. I'm seeing this on most of our switches (about 10 of them). I've searched the forum and docs and only found info relating to routers. Anybody know what these errors mean and how to troubleshoot them for switches? Thanks in advance.

One common reason for this in 2950 switches is due to flooded traffic. Plug in a sniffer in promiscous mode and check for any broadcast/multicast/unknown unicast flooded traffic.

  • Multicast and Flexconnect Local Switching

    Hi All,
Hope you can help with this -
    I have the following:
A 5508 in a remote datacentre and several sites with AP's running in flexconnect mode, connected to cisco switches.
I have an ssid on which I want to run some push to talk "phones" which I believe use multicast.
What do I need to do to enable multicast for this, I have read many documents but I'm a little confused !
I need to enable multicast on the controller globally ?
    Enable igmp snooping ?
Does multicast mode need to be multicast or unicast ?
Do I need a multicast address in this case ?
Do i need to configure the switches (2960) for any multicast configuration, there is none at present ?
The phones that do PTT will only need to talk to other phones locally at each site, but each site will have some phones, does this make any difference to anything ?
hope someone can help, thanks !

The guidelines for Flexconnect and Multicast are as follows:
    1. Set the AP Multicate mode on the controller to Unicast (Multicast-Unicast Mode) : The wireless controller replicates the multicast packet and sends it to each Access Point in a Unicast CAPWAP Tunnel
    2. L3 routing isn't required on the wired network
    3. There will be high controller and wired network loading
    4. No multicast address is required in multicast-unicast mode
    5. No multicast configuration required on Layer 2 switches as CGMP is enabled  by default

  • SGE Series - Multicast Across VLANs

Does anyone know if the SGE series switches support multicast across VLANs?
If so, how do you configure it?
I have IGMP snooping enabled globally and for each VLAN.
Bridge multicast filtering is enabled as well.

Yes, the sg300 can, and yours probably can too. It's either the settings or the application. What are you trying to accomplish with the multicast over vlan? I had a situation where I was trying to get a DNLA tv to find a DNLA media server (Dnla uses multicast broadcasts for discovery) on a different vlan/subnet. While multicast across vlan worked, the Samsung tv would only look for media servers on its own subnet, regardless of the multicast. You may be facing some limitation of your application, rather than the switch. How about you post some screenshots of the multicast config, then generate some multicast traffic on one vlan and use wireshark to see if you can see it on the other.
    Best,
    David

Just to further clarify, we have 4 5548UP switches in the same management vlan. 2 switches are in one location lets say location A and they are CFS peers and are working fine.
These two switches which are having problem are in location B. All the switches are in the same vlan. Essentially the all CFS multicast messages will be seen by all 5548 switches as they are in the same vlan. I am assuming that this might not create any problems as we specify the peers in the respective configurations. Or do we have to change the CFSoIPv4 multicast addresses in location B or may be configure a different region.
    Regards.

  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Virtual Switching System (VSS)

    With Anand Ganesan
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about how to monitor, configure, and troubleshoot the Virtual Switching System (VSS) in Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches with expert Anand Ganesan.
VSS is network system virtualization technology that pools multiple Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches into one virtual switch, increasing operational efficiency, boosting nonstop communications, and scaling system bandwidth capacity to 1.4 Tbps. At the initial phase, a VSS will allow two physical Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches to operate as a single logical virtual switch called a virtual switching system 1440 (VSS1440).
    For more information, visit:  www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps9336/prod_qas0900aecd806ed74b.html
The VSS simplifies network configuration and operation by reducing the number of Layer 3 routing neighbors and by providing a loop-free Layer 2 topology.

Are there any significance in running eigrp or any other routing protocol over this BFD link?
Is the Dual active scenario detected by BFD or BFD notifies a routing protocol like eigrp and in turn dual active is detected?
Should I suppress the eigrp HELLOs on these interfaces to get rid of the log message?

  • Cisco 2950 l2 switch console problen

Hi all, I got 2 old Cisco 2950 catalyst switch yesterday. But when I try to open console of both switches I am getting only blank terminal. I tried to open with putty and scureCRT, I tried another console cable, tried on another PC, but no luck.
I think previous owners might have disabled console. So is there any other way to take console or delete start-up conf file??

     Hello,
I don't have a 2950 around to test, but as far is I know disabling the console is achieved issuing the "no exec" command on the console line, so it is a command in the start-up config. Therefore booting the switch in the rescue image should not take into account that command, so the console should be available in that mode. Have you tried that? To do so hold down the MODE button located on the left side of the front panel, while you reconnect the power cable to the switch. Release the Mode button after approximately 5 seconds when the Status (STAT) LED goes out. When you release the Mode button, the SYST LED blinks amber.
Here is the rest of the procedure:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2950-series-switches/12040-pswdrec-2900xl.html
PS:  I presume you are using the correct COM port and terminal settings, however I mention them bellow just to make sure:
    Bits per second (baud): 9600
    Data bits: 8
    Parity: None
    Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: Xon/Xoff  (or none, in some documents)
You can check if you are using the correct COM port in System Tools/Device Management if you are using a Windows device.
If this doesn't work check if the flash card can be removed (not sure on that old model), perhaps you can use it in other device and delete the startup config.

  • Implementing Firewall behind Catalyst 2950 SI Switch

    Hi,
    Current Scenario:
2 x 3700 series routers in active-standby configuration (HSRP) . They are implementing IOS SLB and NAT.
Behind these a 2950-24 switch. This box has only the Standard Image.
Behind this again are a number of Windows servers requiring protection.
    Requirement:
Implement Firewall Solution with SonicWall in order to protect a subset of these hosts.
    Questions:
    1. Can the Firewall be 'hung' off the switch and create port-based VLAN's?
    2. Would this involve sub-interfaces on the Firewall? I read in SonicWall doc. that with appropriate Firmware upgrade, it can implement sub-interfaces, but requires a 802.1q-capable switch.
    3. Leading on from 2., I believe 2950-24 cannot run 802.1q since it runs only a Standard Image(SI), according to CCO. Is this true?
    4. Any other advice appreciated.
    Thanks again.

    Hi,
Yes you can, create two VLAN's on the switch, say 20 and 30. Assign ports for external firewall interface and routers on vlan 20. Assign ports for servers and internal interface on firewall on vlan 30.
You should not not need sub-interfaces as the firewall will have a separate external and internal interface.
Let me know if I have pointed you in the right direction or if I not gotten the right end of your question.

This exact same thing happened to me too yesterday and trying what you said has just fixed it right now! Lucky I happened to come across this discussion while looking for a solution and has saved me a trip to Genius Bar tonight.
Thanks very much for the solution!
This problem has never happened before and I have just updated to iOS 7.0.3 about 2 weeks ago, so wondering if it may be an iOS 7 issue...

I have got a 13 inch MacBook Pro and it got stuck in a loop so I switched it off by holding the power button down and now when I switch it on the apple logo appears then I get a blank slot at the bottom of the screen then the circle appears and rotates and then it switches off again, I have tried starting it again with the system disc that came with it when it was new but it makes no difference. Is there a sequence that I can use to force it to start.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

If you purchased it from Apple within the last 14 days then you can return it for a full refund. otherwise no. If you purchased it elsewhere you have to check with them.

  • Calendar first and second alerts switch on their own

Hi, I've been having this problem for a while with my iPhone 4, wondering if anyone can help.
I've tried looking if there's already a thread for this issue, but couldn't find one -- maybe I'm just not using the correct keywords.
Every time I set my first and second alerts on my calendar appointment and saved them, they seem okay, but 2 minutes later when I go back to the same appointment, the first and second alerts switch on their own, e.g.: I set first alert to go on 2 hours before and second alert to go on 1 hour before the appointment. Save. When I return 2 minutes later, first alert turned to 1 hour before and second alert 2 hours before.
Which is silly, since who needs their second alert to be farther than their actual appointment? Even iphone knows this and cancels the second alert altogether. By the time I've been alerted, I only have an hour to get ready for my next appointment.
Anyone has encoutered this problem and has successfully solved them? I've tried setting my default time zone under setting to local, and even turning off iCloud, to no success.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have found what appears to be a resolution to this issue, when I add an event and I select the event time, the date time scroller opens up allowing me to select the time of the event.
The issue occurs when I leave this selector expanded and continue to set the event properties. When the time selector is still open and you select the alert times, it swaps the alerts every time. When you collapse the event time selectors before choosing the alert times, the alerts are not switched.
This bug appears to be an issue with the scrolling selector form item if there is more than one open it appears to error out.
If you don't know how to collapse the event time selector, once you have selected the time, click on the date/time that is in red text just above it and it will collapse the selector.
Hopefully this fixes the issue for others, and it is ridiculous that this has gone one for so long, not a good way to keep your customers Apple, my wife was so aggravated at this that she was about to cancel her iPhone.

    On your phone (from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1311):
    Change your iTunes Store country
Sign in to the account for the iTunes Store region you'd like to use. Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region.
Follow the onscreen process to change your region, agree to the terms and conditions for the region if necessary, and then change your billing information.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPhone by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPhone. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.
