Multiclip Audio

I have the same question that went unanswered in someone's else previous post. Here it goes.
Two camera shoot with split audio recordings. So, I have two video tracks and four audio tracks.
Is there a way for me to use the multiclip function of FCP6 and have access to all four audio tracks on the timeline? My initial test with the multiclip function is actually only giving me two audio tracks, audio 1 and 2 from camera 1. I can't even find audio 1 and 2 from camera 2.
Any tips with this process would be much appreciated as always.

Thanks David. Yes, the other option I found is to import the audio for camera 2 separately into the multiclip timeline. You just have to find a synch point first.

  • Multiclip Audio Help........Please!!!

Hi all i created my first multiclip project this evening and i came across a bit of a stumbling block. I'm doing a two camera edit, i created my multiclip and in the pull down tab in the viewer i only had the video option selected so the audio would not change as i added edits.
When the clip the started the audio was exactly the same length as the video, approx 1 hour. Somewhere along the line the audio shrank to 15 mins and i couldnt bring it back up to full size. When i double clicked the audio it appeared in the viewer with a red line running along the middle of the in/out markers timeline??? I tried to clear the in and points as well as drag the audio back up to size in the timeline but no joy.
If anyone can point me as to where i was going wrong i would be extremely grateful. I had to scrub the session this time and start again. Something i would need to avoid for the future.
    Thanks

  • Multiclip audio solution needed

Preface this with the fact that I'm using FC Studio HD and haven't had time to learn all the intracacies of Soundtrack/FCP yet. . . I have a 2 angle multiclip created. Clip A has (R)ight & (L)eft general audio from a wedding reception, clip B has the same general audio on one channel and the other channel has the audio from a wireless mic. I can edit the video to the best angle, but I really want to find a way to take the audio from say angle B and merge the R & L channels to create a combined R & L audio that has the general audio and wireless mic audio on each channel. Any clear suggestions on how to accomplish this? Do I create a sequence with clip B only and export the audio to an audio file (what format?) and then import that audio, synch it with the multiclip video? Will that exported file still have R & L channels that are not mixed? It is important they are mixed since I don't want general audio coming out of one speaker and and the mic audio coming out of a separate speaker on playback. The answer might be a bit involved, but I would really appreciate suggestions, I'm on a deadline and out of ideas.

If you lay all of the audio into a timeline and sync it up.. 3, 4 channels , however many you have, you can export the entire timeline as an aiff and it will mix down to a stereo file if you choose it as a 'stereo pair.' I would experiment with that and see how that mixes with the mono channel. If that doesn't work you can go into the user preferences > audio outputs tab and make mono channels and do a mixdown that way but it is a bit more complicated.
Also, why not just edit all the audio into a timeline and lay your multiclip of video only in V1 and just edit that way. No need to mix down.

  • Multiclip Audio Problem

I've been working on a project with a lot of multiclips. So far everything is working. Today I made two new multiclips. The first worked fine, but the second has a strange thing going on. One of the clips is playing its audio at about half speed, but all the video is in sync. The other clips are playing audio just fine. When I check the motion tab the speed is at 57 percent. When I switch it to 100 I get an error that says, "unable to complete command. A conflict occured during a trim opperation." I checked to make sure all the original clips were set at the normal speed.
I tried trashing prefs. Turning the computer off and back on. I made new multiclips using out points instead of in points. And still this strangeness.
    What should I try next?

Spooky - not something I've observed.
Any luck creating a new merged clip from that angle's audio and video. That is:
Place the source clip in a timeline
    Select clip, then unlink (Command-L)
Alter speed for audio (if necessary)
Select audio & video, then relink (Command-L)
Drag clip back into the Browser (and use that as the angle for the multiclip)
Or is that an exercise in futility producing the same results in your Multiclip?

  • Multiclip Audio Not Following to Timeline

I'm working in Final Cut 5 with a 2 camera multiclip I synced and created. I try laying it into the timeline but all that shows up is the video, not the audio. I try the same thing with a regular clip and there's no problem. What am I doing wrong?

  • Need help with audio wav file in multicam clip

I created a multicam clip with 3 cameras with crappy, far away, room audio and 1 stereo audio wav file with 2 lavaliere mics of "good Audio" 1 lav left & 1 lav right. on one channel there is a lot of distortion from shirt ruffle etc.... but only at times. I would like to ride the mix and use sections of "good" audio and get rid of sections of "Bad" audio from the one channel. but, I cant figure it out. anyone??? I'm hoping Apple updates this issue soon with great audio support with "simultaneos multicam audio switching!!!" Please, Please Apple...

You can do what you need right now, no need for Apple to do anything, they've already don it. Check this out.

  • Problem exporting mixdown audio XML document from Soundtrack to Final Cut P

I am writing this up at the suggestion of FCP Tech Support.
I treated a multiclip audio track I had sent (along with the video) from FCP using the Compressor (Effects Tab>Dynamics>Compressor). I then sent the mixdown back to FCP automatically (following the instructions on page 209, Vol III, FCP User Manual.pdf). In FCP I got an error message: “ERROR: Critical Error aborted the processing an XML document…”
I noticed, however, that the sequence with the mixdown audio was listed in the Browser. Opening it in the Time Line, the mixdown audio was there along with the muted original audio tracks; however, the video track appeared with all of its cuts, but white and unrendered. So I copied the video from the original sequence and pasted it in the new sequence, in effect replacing the problematic video track. It played back fine. I saved and closed the project, quit FCP and shut down my computer.
When I reopened the project later on, I got a General Error 34 message. I called TS to find out what it means. After creating a new project and reopening it and another current project, neither of which displayed a General Error 34, the problem seemed to be unique to that particular project.
FYI that project was a multiclip one with 4 camera angles. The audio from one of the camera angles was used through out, except for one clip when the audio of another angle was temporarily used. The project was shot on Mini-DV using 2 Panasonic HVX-200’s and two consumer DV camcorders.

Thank you for anyone who read my question. I found the results on another posting. The posting was titled, "Export results in silent audio file."
    Thank you,
    Brian

  • Mulitcam audio off sync

So after I sync up my videos and make a multiclip things seem to be working fine.  Then I set an in and/or out point to make a 3-point edit for the timeline, but immediately the audio sync goes off after I set the in point.  Why is that?  (Using CS6)

I'm having the exact same problem, but I can get more specific.
It happens whens I merge external Lav audio with my first video, then I multiclip the newly made Merged clip with the second video using the "IN POINT".  The Multiclip audio plays in sync when previewing, but as soon as I make a "mark in" point, audio goes out of sync.  But, if I drag that 3-point edit to the timeline, it goes back in sync... which is odd.
My theory is that since I'm using "In Points" to create the multiclip, as soon as I set a new "in point" it wants to re-sync it to that in point... which is not good.
Also, I noticed it only happens when I've merged a camera angle with my Lav Mic Audio (like how you make multiclips in FCP7).  Audio doesn't go out of sync if you just Multiclip 2 cameras and no external audio source.
PS.  I've done the step by step Multiclip creation from the tutorial videos and I get the same thing happening.
Still no solution anywhere in the forums or when searching google.  Any help would be awesome.
    Thanks.

  • In FCPX can I stack clips of multiple angles on top of each other and choose what parts I want to make my movie out of?

    Hi there
I'm debating whether to purchase FInal Cut Pro X or not and I'm new(ish) to video editing.
What I have done so far is produce a music video mimed to audio and shot at about 20 different angles. Each angle is the length of the ENTIRE song, not just snipets.
What I want to be able to do is have those 20 videos sitting stacked up on top of each other (completely synced to the audio) and be able to choose what parts of what video I make my final video out of.
So I want to be able to tell the system to start at angle 1, then at a specific time move to angle 6, then angle 19, then back to angle 1, then angle 16 etc etc etc.
But I dont want to cut up the parts of each camera angle first, I want to be able to select a specific part to play from each ENTIRE camera angle.
Is this possible please? And also what is the correct terminology for this process?
I apologise for not using the correct terminology here, as I dont know the correct words for what I am trying to explain.
    Thanks

FCPX mulitcam editing is the most advanced of any NLE on the market at the moment.

  • Multicam editing question

When editing in multi-cam mode, how can I select which audio tracks I want to appear in the timeline? If I shoot with 3 cameras, can I have all the audio tracks from all the cameras appear in the timeline... And then turn off the ones I don’t want to hear?

#3) There's no automatic way to do it. What I do is after I've added the main multiclip to the timeline, before I adjust the start of the clip, I drag the individual clips into the timeline (same in points) onto separate audio tracks. Then I unlink the video tracks and delete the individual video tracks. Now you have your multiclip video on track 1, multiclip audio on 1 and 2, and each individual audio clips on 3/4, 5/6, etc. You can even unlink the audio from your multiclip video and delete it, leaving just the individual audio tracks.
(This was cut and pasted from a previous post of mine. In other words, a basic search would have found this answer.)

  • Multiclip - mutliple audio tracks

This question has been asked before, but I'll reiterate it. If the support doesn't exist, hopefully apple dev will take it into consideration.
I shoot a lot of weddings and events. FCP's 5.0.x multiclip feature has been a lifesaver. I know the short answer to the following question is "get a mixer and do it in the field right the first time," which I'm working on. BUT, in the meanwhile...
Setup: 3-camera live shoots. We run three different mics: one cam has a wireless lapel mic on the groom; another has a wireless with a directional mic placed at readers' podium/spot; last is an on-camera mic.
Throughout the event the different mics are better for different sound: lapel mic for vows, directional mic for speakers, on-camera mic for organ and songs.
My FCP workflow so far has been this (and it could be the problem): export audio to .aiff, tweak it in STP, bring back into FCP, and link it with clip.
Here's the issue (finally!): Whenever I make these clips a "multiclip," the audio tracks (six in this case) are all automatically mixed together into two tracks in the multi-clip. All my hard work tweaking sound in STP is lost. (Again, might be a workflow issue.)
Does anyone know how to import the audio tracks, while still linked to the video, into a multiclip (and avoid manual synching in FCP timeline)?
I know one solution is to bring the separate audio files in and synch them manually in the timeline. But here's hoping someone can suggest something a bit less time-consuming...
    Thanks for any help!

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the audio is set up with six total audio tracks (two per video feed). I'm viewing the clips with "Video & Audio" selected as you described.
I'm synching clips I've cleaned up in STP manually ... but that's not the issue.
    Here's the issue:
    Pre multiclip files:
    V1 - A1, A2
    V2 - A3, A4
    V3 - A5, A6
    --->convert to multiclip<---
    Post multiclip files:
Viewer Window: V1, V2, V3 in multiclip config
Timeline Video: whichever angle I select
    *Timeline Audio* - A1*, A2*
Going to item properties for the audio tracks shows that A1* is comprised of A1, A3, A5 and A2* is comprised of A2, A4, A6. All the original audio tracks are there in the new multclip audio, just mixed together.
I want to know if there's a way to separate those audio tracks in the timeline on the mutliclip. I'd like to work with the separate tracks for the best sound rather than the "mixed" audio that multiclip seems to do automatically.

  • How can I use ALL audio tracks in multiclip editing?

I want to be able to use all audio tracks after the multiclip cut.
It's only a two camera shoot, but I want to be able to use the ambient room sound from the second camera ... and control its level (in relation to the master audio track on the first camera) AFTER the cuts are made.
Is this possible in multiclip editing? And how does one go about it?
Apologies. I've spent an hour or so in the manual, and it isn't clear ... or I'm just not finding the right reference.
    All ears,
    Ben

Sorry if I'm steering you down a path you don't want to go or even if there's a better way but I wouldn't be ding complex audio mixing anywhere near the multiclip interface. Export your reference movie or nest the multiclip project into another sequence, bring in your additional tracks, get to work. Just my preferences, I put a bunch of rough keyframes in the audio tracks and enter some markers (and make a lot of paper notes). Then I go back using the large mixer window to do the fine tweaking.
Stick around for a couple of days, some other multiclip users with more experience than I will offer some more useful suggestions.

  • Multiclips and multiple audio tracks playing at the same time

I've only just taken delivery of my first ever mac (only ever used PC) with FCP, and I'm loving it already! Done lots of reading and viewing of video etc etc, and it's not as daunting as I thought it might be. I have one question the books don't seem to answer, and I can only find one reference to this on this site, with no definitive response. FCP5 probably doesn't work this way, but just in case someone knows different......
I film and edit motorsport (karting) programmes for television in the UK, using multiple cameras. I usually lay all the video and audio tracks on the timeline, (synched) lock the audio for each (as it is engine noise, and I want it playing without abrupt changes at cuts as each kart passes each camera, whether in shot or not) then cut the video tracks and delete those video segments not required.
The most exciting aspect of FCP5 for me is the multiclip editing facility, which I have found very easy to learn and is going to save me hours of work! However, I want to know if there is a way of having each audio track from each camera used in the multiclip laid down on the timeline when you import the multiclip to the timeline from the viewer, in order that I can play each audio track from each of the cameras at the same time.
I know how to cut from angle to angle, leaving the audio from the selected angle as the one audio track playing, but I want all of the tracks to appear in the timeline and play at the same time. I know there's a bit of a workaround by locking the video and importing each audio track from each clip independently, but if you do have to re-synch one of the multiclips, this means the audio is not then synched with the original clip, which will have had an in point set before being imported in as part of a multiclip.
I can understand why you might want to keep audio from one camera only playing over the whole multiclip, or to switch between audio from each, but in my case I prefer all audio to play at the same time. The workaround is still do-able for me as I'm only talking about engine notes, which if they are a few frames out is not very noticeable at all, but I would like to know if I'm right in thinking I cannot do it the way I would like to?
Wish I'd used FCP from the start, but glad I've got it now.....especially with the 30 inch screen! It's 4.40am, been going over 19 hours straight and I'm still making comments like...."WOW, that's brilliant"...every half hour!

  • Can I force A side of audio track on multiclip?

This should be a no brainer, but I can't figure it out... I am editing a feature on FCP. They shot a lot of A and B camera simo stuff. But they were only feeding the audio into the A camera.
I made a multiclip, but I ALWAYS want the audio to be coming from the sound on the A camera and not the silent audio tracks that are attached to the B Cam side.
Can I set the multiclip up so it has 2 VIDEO tracks but only 1 audio? Or besides having to manually patch the tracks everytime, is there a way I can force the audio to always come from the A Camera even if I am using the B camera pix?
    Thanks
    Dave

Well in the time it took you to post this you could of tried two things. One ... the manual. Two poke-around in the viewer were you can turn the gang on/off and you will see some check marks next to the tracks of the multi-clip. Choose only the ones you want to work with.
I know it took me along time to find it too. Only because I didn't tread the manual.

  • Clip Within Multiclip Has Out of Sync Audio

I'm editing a 45 minute multiclip with 3 synchronized camera angles and one of the angles started to slip out of sync about halfway through whenever I'd click on it in the timeline. It started out okay and it's only that one angle, the other two are fine. What could've caused this and how do I fix it? Do I have to recapture and recreate the multiclip?
    Jeff
MacBook Pro Core Duo 2 2.16 Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

First, which angle are you using for the audio...or are you using audio from all 3 angles?
Could be that one of the angle's audio is not right at 48khz...(like 47.999 or 48.001 or some such)...solution would be export that audio as aiff 48khz/16bit, then relink the new audio clip to it's video and recreate the multiclip.
Could be simply a dropout in your video capture that threw it out of sync, particularly if you're using only one angle as the audio.
You might try holding down control-shift and select the out of sync clip in the viewer and drag left or right to bring it back into sync. If it is drifting, you may have to do this several times over the remainder of the multiclip.
This solution will not affect any of your previous cuts...only the remainder of the clip, provided it's not been cut at later points in the timeline.
If that's the case, you can use that procedure where it's needed, or wait until you collapse the multiclip and address any out of sync cuts with your slip tool.
