Multiclip changes source clip name

Hi everyone. Strange problem here.
We've been using Multiclip for a while, just upgraded all machines to FCP 7, and now we have an issue where switching angles in the Viewer will spontaneously change the source clip name.
For example :
- I've got 2 clips, Cam A and Cam B
- Make a multiclip out of them
- Open in Viewer
- Switch angles from Cam A to Cam B in viewer
- In the Browser, the clip Cam A is renamed as Cam B, NOT the multiclip
Using the Browser's rename function to match clip to file name erroneously uses the last active angle on the faulty clip, instead of it's proper name.
Tried on 2 different MacPros, same problem.
Any clues?
Thanks!

Ok, I set my sequence settings to 640x480 and square pixel aspect ratio, but it says the vid rate is 30fps instead of 29.97. How do I change that?

  • Change source system name in variant in BWQ

    Hi Gurus,
I created a process chain for global seetings for unit of measurement and fiscal year variants and transported to BWQ.
In BWQ, I found the source system name in variant is showing ERD source system name, but I need to change it to ERQ source system name. Any advice how to change source system name in variant in BWQ I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Liza

    Hello Again Liza...
I had the same problem but I didn't need to include in process chain...
So to execute periodically you can change it in debug mode, not the best solution...
But since you need to use it in a process chain, you should copy that program to one of yours Z.
    Do this:
Go to transaction se38 and insert the program name "RSIMPCUST".
Click on the button of "Copy" (Ctrl+F5).
Change the source program name to ZRSIMPCUST (or whatever you want)
    Click Enter
Click the button to mark everything (F8)
    Click Enter
On the next window of the name of the include click enter (leave it blank)
Click on the button Change of your Source Code
In line number 54 you'll find this in Selection Screen part:
PARAMETERS:  logsys  TYPE rsa_logsys MODIF ID p01.
PARAMETERS: logsysnm LIKE tbdlst-stext MODIF ID p02.
Delete those two lines and insert this ones:
    PARAMETERS:  logsys  TYPE rsa_logsys.
    PARAMETERS: logsysnm LIKE tbdlst-stext.
Now click on Activate button (Ctrl+F3)
Now you have a new program just like the old one but you can change the source system to whatever you want!
    Please assign points,
    Diogo.

  • Change Source File Name

    Hello,
Sometimes when I change the name of songs or videos in iTunes, the name of the source file changes, and sometimes it doesn't.
When I say "source file," I mean the name of the file that comes up when I look at the contents of a folder via "My Computer" in the Windows interface.
I'd like a change of the iTunes name to always change the source file name. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Ben

i added music to a clean, newly installed iTunes from a music folder on my desktop with subfolders for different cds that i downloaded recently. after i added those folders to iTunes, i changed the artist names and album titles. the files changed in the folder on my desktop...the only thing that won't change is the song title...it's odd!

  • Changing a clip name in the Finder

What does happen if in the Finder I change the file name of a clip I have already mounted on the timeline of a project?

The clip goes offline in the application, both in the timeline and in the event browser.

  • When I change a clip name it changes all clip names

In Event Browser or Inspector when I try and name a clip, or enter notes, the change I make appears in all clips as if all are linked.
    Thanks, Nick

Naming is a minor part of the metadata, and probably the least useful.
    Use notes or named favorites
Keyword notes might be a little better if you need the data to carry into the timeline

  • Changing (master) clip name in browser window

    Hello,
Did a search for this but found very little and that which was found confused me. Does anyone know whether it's safe to rename clips in the browser window within FCP? And whether it maters if they are master clips or not?
I just got back from Iceland (went specificly to film) and captured each whole tape with "capture clip" letting FCP automaticly cut it up and name 1, 2, 3 etc. I wouldnt usually do this but I had to get it onto the computer quickly as I was so scared the tapes might break or get lost and the whole trip could be wasted.
Thanks in advance for any help.
PS running: iBook G4 1.2GHz, FCP 5, OSX 10.4.5, Pal HDV (HDV HC1) And I know it's not really fast enough for HDV but thats beside the point

You'll be fine. Just make sure you rename the clips within FCP's browser window, NOT the Finder. (Unless you want to re-import the clips and reconnect all the media) Cheers.

  • Changing Clip Name

I understand that the best time to name a clip is when capturing. And changing a clip name will pose a problem when reconnecting media.
However, if the "clip name" is changed via "item properties" in the browser AND the "QT file" in the "Capture Scratch file" is changed at the finder level (or if Modify/Rename/File to Match Clip is used) is the above problem averted? Or is it more complex than that?
Within a simple single project, if changing the clip name is OK using "Modify/Rename/File to Match Clip" why is changing a clip name considered so taboo?

Where it's taboo is in collaborative projects (meaning you have to merge cuts with other editors, but using the same media) as well as projects that are offline/online, since a key piece of tracking data (especially with tapeless workflows) is the clip name.
I'd consider most situations outside of those mentioned to be 'simple projects,' and thus hardly scenarios where changing clip names is taboo.

  • Timeline and Project Bin Clip Names Not Linked

I realize I could get booed out of the room for mentioning FCP7, but one painful issue I'm encountering with an imported project from Final Cut is that once a clip is put into a timeline, its name is not updated inthe timeline when the project clip name is updated.
I took over a project that has numerous subclips with long, long names.  The prior editor did not use any metadata fields except for subclip names, so the names read like short stories.  These long names create a lot of visual distraction in the interface and result in interface tabs that are so long they hide the remaining tabs in the source window.
In FCP 7 I would simply rename a clip and each incidence of that clip/subclip in the timeline would update at the same time.  It was beautiful and elegant.
I'd love to hear the logic as to why PP doesn't operate this way.  In our imperfect world it's not possible to control what previous editors have done before a handoff, epecially now with lots of legacy XML coming into PP and AVID from old Final Cut Projects.
I can think of a number of other scenarios for which linking the names timeline and project clips would be a huge help (changes to a project scope, user error, etc).
I should ask:  am I overlooking a setting in the preferences or something?  Anyone else run into this issue?

I really preferred how FCP7 works.  I think Premiere Pro would benefit from this change too.  If you don't want clips in the TL to updated with clips in the bin (maybe I'm missing something, but I can't imagine in everyday use where you might want to do this), an independent clip could be created that then breaks that relationship.
I think consistency is important and its very difficult to keep a consistent universe of clips when a change in clip name is needed.  I have to respectfully disagree with Jim on this.  I know how I like to work.  Everyone has their own ways, and their is no one right or wrong way, but I see this "feature" as a particular deficit of functionality in PP that will be addressed soon.

  • Clip names in Multitrack session

If I edit a clip in a multitrack session and then save it under a new name, the clip name in the multitrack session does not change. But if I open the clip from the multitrack session in the Editor, it displays the edited version with the new name. In the meantime, the name of the clip changes in the Files panel and the old clip is no longer displayed in the Files panel.
Is this by design? If so, it's confusing.
    Jeff Sengstack

    Hey Jeff,
Hopefully I can explain this in a way that makes sense.
When you open a file into Audition that has a name of "audio.wav" and add it to a multitrack session, the clip name within the session is now "audio.wav" (taking on the name of the source file). If you change the name of the source file by performing a "save as" and naming the file "sound.wav", the source file has changed, BUT the clip name remains the same.
This is mostly because you can name that clip in multitrack anything you want (from the properties panel). If you were to change the clip name in multitrack to "vocals" and then saved the source file with a name of "sound.wav", I'm fairly certain that you wouldn't want us changing all of the clips that reference that source file to be have a clip name of "sound". Especially after you may have gone through a lot of trouble to name all of those clips a certain way. Regardless of if the clip names or the source asset name changes, we try to respect names used prior to those changes.
If you double click to now edit a clip named "vocals", you are actually editing the source file "sound.wav". Any changes you make to the source file will be made to all clips in MT that reference this source. This is why we can't show that you are editing the clip named "vocals", because in reality, you will be altering any clips in MT that reference the original source file.
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Does not allow to change source system in Variant

    Hi Gurus,
I am creating a variant for the program RSIMPCUST, but it does not allow me to change source system name. It is showing me gray color. Do you how to fix this issue ?.
    Thanks
    Liza

    Hello Liza,
    Did you try my solution?
[Re: Change source system name in variant in BWQ]
There are solutions to change variants properties, but that particular program has the logsys parameter not able to change, so you cannot change the value of that variant (only with debug).
It's best to go for that solution I already provided to you...

  • "Conversion of Source System names after the transport" : O

    Experts:
    Environment : BI 7.0 and SP 12
<b>Tranports related to transformation rules are failing with inactive status...</b>
Further investigation on this, I have noticed that in our QA system, where "Conversion of Source System names after the transport" : O screen, we have columns
Original Source System, Target Source System, 7.0, Description(I guess, since no name is found)
Everything looks fine to me with reference to actual techinical names of source/target system...
My question there is a check box on column "7.0", which is UNCHECKED. Is this correct?
My understanding is that, this check box needs to be CHECKED, since this is related " Only Valid for RSDS, TRFN and DTPA Objects ". Is this correct?
If yes, Can I check this box in QA system, save and retransport my requests. If so, what happens to standard BW objects i.e., transfer ruels, update rules etc...
OR do i need to create another entry with same source/target system and check the 7.0 box.
OR do i need to create 3 entries with same source/target system and check 7.0 box for each entry i.e., RSDS, TRFN, DTPA.
Finally, please advise the exact steps that need to be taken here...pros and cons
Your inputs will be of great help....
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Yes you need to check the checkbox as it is related to Data sources and transformation and DTPs. you can mark the check box if  your client is modifiable, if not you need to transport the setting from DEV. Go to
SPRO > Business Intelligence>Transport Settings--> Change Source system name after transport.
you also need to maintain the Source system IDs .
    Hope it helps.

  • Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names

Can you Import clips into FCP X version 10.0.8 and keep the original clip names in the event original media folder? in version 10.0.8 it automatically allocates date / time of the event. I need it to keep the original clip name i:e Clip0100 event folder original media Clip0100. I am aware you can change the clip name to original once in FCP X, But it's the event folder original media name which I want to remain as the original file name.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the response.
I am aware you can do this change in the Info inspector so the original clip name from camera is used in the event library browser, but it does not change the clip name in the Final Cut Events Original Mieda file. This still remains as an event clip name "2013-05-23 17_08_13". I need the original clip name Clip0100 to remain as Clip0100 at import. FCP X doesn't seem to allow this happen any more in version 10.0.8.

  • HVX200 Clip Names in Camera/Changing

Is there a way of changing/re-naming clips in the HVX200 camera so that when they are imported into FCP they don't have that crazy 0001YB naming structure that makes abolutely no sense to me?
I'd love to be able to tweak these.
Also, I guess the only way to get files into FCP is via the P2 import, but that doubles the files and takes up HD space. Can I avoid this duplication upon importing?
It also piles these crazy named clips all into the capture bin where they REALLY make no sense.
    Thanks in advance.

Please watch my tutorial at www.proapptips.com/shane P2 INTRODUCTION
No...there is no way to change this naming scheme. It is how the camera keeps the clip names unique. What you need to do is after you import, watch the clips and add your own description to it...BUT DO NOT ERASE THE NAME. So after you import the clip, ADD the name to it like:
0001DT - Man on street corner
0002R5 - Duck flies into man, knocking him down
0003GG - Man beats up duck
Something like that. This way you still have the number, in case your media ever gets lots or corrupt...or you lose a drive....you can always re-import. This is why keeping the number is so important.
Now...when you copy the footage onto an external drive, that drive them becomes your source "tape." Because you erase the P2 card to use again. You then take the footage from that drive and import that onto ANOTHER drive, your media drive. That drive is what you then use to edit the footage, and the first drive you put on a shelf, because again, that is your source tape. If your media drive goes down, or the footage gets lost, you just re-import from the first drive.
This is just what you have to do if you are using this workflow and want to keep your source footage. It would be unwise to delete the CONTENTS folder and master MXF files after you import. You are deleting your backups. It would be like capturing footage from a tape, then throwing it away, or erasing it to be used again. You wouldn't do that, would you?

  • Sequence and clip name keeps changing... Why ? Solutions ?

The sequence and clip name on a particular project keeps changing. It usually takes the name of of an audio file. Deleting the preferences, opening the timeline in a new project, making it offline and reconnecting it again, et. all doesn't help ? What is causing this ? HELP

I made the sequence off line and save it as a new project. Then deleted the preferences and opened the project..... reconnected the media. Most of the clips showed the correct clip name and the sequence name also didn't change. But a few audio tracks still had the old problem....

  • Imported source file name changed for the external table

    Hi,
I have external table from flat file. Now the source file name is changed. I can change the file location to point to the new file name, but I can't update the source for the flat file property(as seen under flat file properties, structure tab. the column "Sampled From"). Is there way to have this update without having to import the file using the new file name again?

In the Files section in the object navigator find the flat file you want to change the source of.
Double click on the actual file, and on the General tab change the old file name to the new one.
The fact that it has been sampled from a different file should not 'disturb' the working of the external table.
However, if the structure of the new file is different I'd suggest to resample.
    Good luck, Patrick
