Multiclip help

I've synched all my cams, everything looks great in the viewer window...I see all cameras. The problem is when I am using 'open' playhead sync.
When I click on different cams to edit, I am not getting the blue marks in the timeline that I should be getting. When I click on any given clip playback stops. If I look at the sequence I see that it shows me changing the clip name but it's not making the edit. What am I missing?

Nevermind....I figured it out...by the way multiclip is the best feature ever.....

  • MULTICLIP HELP NEEDED VIA iCHAT

I have read topics about it online, and I have read the proper sections of the manual 900 times. I just can't get it all to work.
I need one kind soul to chat with me on iChat, and help me to get a simple multiclip working in FCP.
    my screen name is: megahurtdotnet
I would really really appreciate this!

Joseph. It's really quite simple to do multiclips. If I had the time, I could probably walk you though it, but there might be a much simpler way.
    1. Contact Steve Martin at Ripple Training. Rippletraining.com
    2. Go to Ken Stones web site and post there. Kenstone.net (then go to discussions)
The basics are: Choose the in points of each of your clips. With those clips highlighted, right click and choose Make Mulitclip. A window appears showing you the clips and their IN or Out points. Click OK. Now you'll see a new file in your browser called Multiclip plus the name of the clip. Double click on this.
It will now appear in your Viewer. Hold down the OPT key and drag the clip (that are in the viewer) down to the timeline. Now, Highlight your mulitclip and hit the Return key (Not Your Mouse!) It again goes up in the viewer.
Now, you will see 3 buttons on the top of your Viewer Tab. The one on the left shows the size of the Viewer Image. The one in the middle is what you need to left click on. You will have three choices. Sync Off, Open or Gang.
    You need to select Open.
Now you're ready to edit. One final step I forgot to tell you about. Before you choose your various clips (cameras) be sure to go to the ANGLE column in your browser and drag it to the beginning of your browser. Now enter the number 1 for your main clip, 2 for camera two, 3 for camera Three, etc...
Now when you move from camera to camera, you can use the number tabs instead of having to use the mouse.
There is really alot more to all of this, but hopefully this will get you started.
Contact Ripple Training. I think Steve has a Tutorial on this. He's great!
    take care,

  • Sequence error when creating a multiclip, help!!

I have a bunch of clips I select and try to build a multiclip sequence with from 2 cameras with synced timecode, and after I click to build the multiclip sequence and go through the settings, I get an error that says:
Sequence Error: Unable to add clip to sequence. Possible media limits problem in clip or sequence.
this happens if I select 20 clips or 2 clips. Anyne have any suggestions? FYI, I am editing in native hdv.
    Thanks

There has to be enough overlap between clips, I think 36% or so. Could that be a problem.

  • Urgent multiclip help

every time I close and re-open premiere...almost every one of my multiclips seems to revert back to the slate shot. almost every clip seems to hold the same spot in which I cut but the footage is just looping and all the work has to be started over.

Please clarify. After applying the update, did you create a new multicam sequence, record at least two passes of edits, close and reopen the project, and find that the each edit reverts to the start of the clip? Or are you reporting that the multicam sequence that you edited in 7.0 was not fixed by the update?

  • Hdv multiclip help

i have 8 cameras shot in HDV with time code breaks all are lock with time of day time-code. I want to make an 8 angle multi-clip but when ever there is a time-code brake it created a new angle. So instead of having 8 angles in the viewer i now have 9 or 20 depending on how many times the cameras break time-code.
Or.. is there a way when I make a multi-clip sequence with 8 camera angles and lay in all my camera angles to line up by time-code. So to clarify I have 8 cameras shooting for one hour. One camera shuts off and turns back on but still keeps time-code because its shot time of day. Now I have 9 clips. If i Stack all 8 cameras in a multi-clip sequence it leaves the 8 tracks of video and spaces out the one clip with a break in the correct place is there then a way to make a multi-clip with only the 8 angles not 9 (because I have 9 clips in the timeline but only 8 camera angles.)

I turned the setting to HDV and the noticed the iLink Conv setting. Apparently the iLink Conv setting was set to ON (HDV->DV). So, FCP was recognizing it as DV.
I turned it off and am able to capture in HDV now.
    Thanks!!!

  • Help with multiclip editing in FCP

Can someone please help me with multiclip editing. I have followed all the steps in the tutorials I have watched but I am unalble to switch between the two angles in the time line. Also the red line in the time line is telling me to render everything first . Is that normal or is it because I am using the 5.0 version of FCP?

To switch between angles, the timeline should not be rendered. Once you render it, it may play more smoothly, but you can't switch.
Also, sometimes you may have trouble switching many HD files, so it might work better to use Media Manager to make lower resolution proxies for your editing, then bringing the full-res files back for your final output. If the computer can't handle the load, it may refuse to do multiclip editing.
Finally, you may need to switch Playhead Sync back to "Open" from time to time. For some reason, the Viewer sometimes switches to "Sync Off".
By the way, your question actually belongs on the Final Cut Studio forum:

  • Final cut - multiclip angles ~Help!

    Hey all ~
I am at the tail end of a video project - there are 8 video sequences involved. All are finished except for one stubborn sequence in which the multiclip within the sequence will not show all four angles when I'm playing it, thus I can't cut my angles. (hope that made sense)
I can't figure out why it won't do it - I have a reworked the sequence and multiclip a few times now, but whenever I start the footage to cut the angles, only the active angle syncs to playback in the viewer.
I learned the program from experience and so I may be missing something simple, but it's driving me nuts! Someone please run me through what you do to get all angles in a multiclip to sync to playback with the canvas, so that I can cut my angles in real time.
    jM

I don't know if this solves it but I was JUST having that same freakin' issue and I was going outta MY mind!
HERE'S THE ANSWER!!!(at least it was for me): Make sure your timeline isn't rendered PRIOR to doing multicam/multiclip editing.
I have about 50 multiclips that I (edited) layed down in a sequence last night. I went home and obviously the timeline rendered itself (since that's the pref I setup). I got to it this morning and I would try to edit on the fly...it wouldn't work...then I'd change some stuff and it would start playing realtime. And, of course, I couldn't figure out what I did...until I did.
After changing the angle while the picture was static (thus UNrendering the multiclip), then pushing spacebar (with the timeline activated so I could hear the audio), everything started working/playing real time again.
I just figured it out and almost wanted to quit the biz for being so stupid.
I know you posted this 2 months ago but hopefully this helps anyone from here on out.

  • Help pls with multiclip!

Hi I am using FCP 5.0.4, have had months of hassle free working on my Quad. But yesterday started trying to use multiclip, which used to work fine on a 2.5 dual incidentally, cannot get it to work properly. did the tutorial 3 times, read the manual main pages, trashed the prefs (plist) - altho to be fair the settings seem to stay after trashing so maybe doing something wrong there?
I make the multiclip ok get it into the timeline select open, but when I slect different angkles in the viewer it doesnt reflect in the timeline - and for some reason since trashing prefs when I make a selection in viewer of a different angle playout stops.
    Please any suggestions?
    P

    Brian,
I want to thank you so much. You have completely solved the problem with the cut and switch issues - checking on keyboard layout showed you were correct - my keyboard was set to "switch" rather than "cut" . I made your recommended changes without trashing prefs and bingo everything works. I want to praise your analytical thought process.
Also, maybe I have found why my machine defaulted to "switch"? I am an expat Brit and did have my keyboard set to British English, whereas FCP's designers are of course American ....as soon as I started following your suggested commands I got automated messages telling me my keyboard layout was not set to accommodate them, so I changed it. Perhaps useful if sopmeone else gets this problem?
Thank you again, and another thanks to you and all the other editors who spend hours of their time selflessly helping others on this forum. May your God Bless You.

  • Multiclip Audio Help........Please!!!

Hi all i created my first multiclip project this evening and i came across a bit of a stumbling block. I'm doing a two camera edit, i created my multiclip and in the pull down tab in the viewer i only had the video option selected so the audio would not change as i added edits.
When the clip the started the audio was exactly the same length as the video, approx 1 hour. Somewhere along the line the audio shrank to 15 mins and i couldnt bring it back up to full size. When i double clicked the audio it appeared in the viewer with a red line running along the middle of the in/out markers timeline??? I tried to clear the in and points as well as drag the audio back up to size in the timeline but no joy.
If anyone can point me as to where i was going wrong i would be extremely grateful. I had to scrub the session this time and start again. Something i would need to avoid for the future.
    Thanks

  • Multiclips lost re-capture help

I created a project a while back using 3 cameras and multicliping it. The project is still there but somehow I've trashed the clips. I have the exported audio.
Can I recapture the video and relink the files and somehow not have to edit it again? PLEASE HELP!!!

Absolutely...this is why Timecode is so important and valuable.
Just highlight the offline clips in the Browser and hit BATCH CAPTURE. Put in the tape FCP asks for.

  • Subclip timecode issues for MultiClip edit...Help!?!?

Here is the issue. 2 camera shoot, Cameraman 1 pushed pause during a live concert video shoot.
In order to make a multiclip edit with the other camera's footage, I have made subclips of this camera's footage on each side of the pause.
The other camera in the shoot had issues as well so I have been forced to use a sequence and alternant timecodes to line everything up with my sound file.
Everything works well until I get to the subclip after the pause. I try to modify the alternant timecode to correspond with the sequence timecode but when I enter the approporate number FCP forces a different number to appear.
My hunch is that because these are subclips of the same captured clip I am not able to modify the timecode as I want to. Can anyone confirm this hunch?
And...what can I do about this? Do I have to recapture? I hope not. I have tried to create a new master clip in the modify window but the problem persists. I am so close to getting this into the multicam editor I can taste it. Thanks.

Solved it... I ended up having to re-capture the shot after the pause so it would be a seperate media file. I guess I could have copied the file outside of FCP, renamed and imported the file seperatly... I realize this problem was caused by not setting the capture up properly to treat the jump in time code appropriately.

  • Need help with multiclip

Not sure what I am doing wrong.  Sometimes multiclip editing works almost perfectly, as it did today  Only dropped out of multiclip mode a couple times, but that may be normal operation after it has deposited a certain number of markers in the timeline.  Most of the time, it is very balky.  Sometimes I have no audio.  Most times though, clicking on a frame deposits a marker, but I don't see the switch--have to be sure and remember which source I chose last.  Often it may start working, but then drops out right away.  I have sometimes been able to fix the problems by restarting the multiclip several times.  Once in a while I have to restart Final Cut or even reboot the system.
As far as I know all the settings are correct:  Open sync, multiclip playback enabled.  Is there something I am missing?

What codec is the footage? What drive is it stored on? Connected how?

  • Help with building timeline using Multiclip

I am trying to learn how to build a timeline using multiclip.
I have my multiclip set up, have the buttons on top of the timeline so I can switch or cut angles. Everything is set so I can switch in realtime. I even have it set so I am using the audio from camera 3 and it does not change when I switch angles.
I hate to admit it, but I don't know what to do next. I have read through FCP user manual, all the pages on multiclips. I know how to do this that and the other, but I cannot figure out how to go from one camera to the other and have that information stay in the timeline. Maybe I missed a page or I'm missing a page... For example:
Ok, I start with camera 1. At 1:30 I want to have camera 3 view on the timeline for 10 seconds, then to camera 2.
I click the canvas and I can start the playback in the timeline, use the switch button to view camera 3 then switch back to 2. I see each angle on the canvas. All the Timeline does is show which camera I am currently viewing. I was expecting FCP to build the timeline to have 1;30 of camera 1, 10 sec of camera 3 then camera 2. Obviously I was mistaken.
Can anyone take the time to bring me up to speed or point out what to type in the user manual to find out how to do this?
    Thanks
    Jim

Agreed. But I never use the numeric keypad for anything because, generally, FCP is not smart enough to know not to enter numbers. It would be so 21st Century if FCPX fixed all of that interface silliness.
Try installing the multiclip button bar. Also good for lots of fast shortcuts.

  • Need help with multiclip / grouping

Hi everyone - I'm brand new to FCP but have used Avid for many years. I'm trying to do something in a short I've inherited from another editor & can't figure out how to do it in FCP.
In my dailies, there's an A-camera and B-camera for every take. Some also have a C-camera. Every clip has 4 audio tracks. The DP has assured me that I can ignore the 3rd and 4th audio track of the clips; splitting into 4 tracks is just something weird the camera does. The DP thinks the audio that was captured by the mixer's hard drive on set (before sending it to the camera) will be better quality than the audio tracks that are attached to the video clips. So he suggested that I sync up the WAV files to the video clips.
So - my goal is to have a multiclip for each take that has all 3 cameras, deletes audio tracks 3 and 4, and also includes the WAV file. I can easily set an in-point to sync all of them, but I don't know how to get rid of the audio 3 and 4. Can anyone advise me on how to do this?
    Thanks in advance...

The short answer is just make your multi-clips and ignore tracks 3/4. Mute those tracks and when you get you edit set you can unlink them from the clips and delete them. You might try and set up the channels in the sequence to strip them off when you place them in, but not sure what will happen if you try this with multi-clips.
Unless the camera recordings weren't monitored or the mixers output wasn't recored at the camera, there would be no reason why the wav files on a hard disc would be better.
You could go through the trouble of duplicating the clips loading them in a time line and unlinking audio 3/4 and then dragging those back in the bin and making multi-clips from those but arghhh.

  • Need some help with Multiclip

    Hi All.
I have a scene that was shot to music playback. They recorded it with 2 cameras simultaneously. Only 1 camera was getting an audio feed, though. The other camera is completely silent. I originally found a sync point and was able to make a multiclip, I told the audio to always come from the A side even when I was using the B video. It worked.
They did the same thing 4 times (8 takes total), Of those 4 have audio and 4 are silent. There's obviously is no common sync point among all the clips.
I was able to make 4 separate multiclips though. But I want all 8 takes to be in 1 large multiclip. I tried setting an in point on the 4 separate multiclips and then telling FCP to make a new multiclip from those 4 multiclip sources. It seemed to understand what I want as I can see all 8 video tracks simultaneously in the viewer, but it doesn't honor the in points I have (so all the takes are way out of sync with each other). I figured maybe it was going back to the original master takes and using those in points.
I decided to manually do what I wanted FCP to do, and I would find 1 downbeat on each multiclip that I know is the same (like the first drum hit of the first chorus) and mark an in point on all 4 multiclips at the same point. I could that find frame back to the 8 original clips and add an inpoint on them. Finally, I would make a supermulticlip from all the 8 original master clips.
It hasn't been working. I have the multiclip in the viewer, But. when I select the angle and choose view>matchframe>multiclip angle it doesn't go to that frame. In fact it's not even close. I'm not sure how it is deciding where to go on the master clip, Shouldn't a matchframe>multiclip angle load the original source frame clip?
So, the 2 questions I have are: 1) How can I make a sync multiclip from multiclip sources?
and 2) How do I match frame a multiclip to it's original master clip?
    Thanks much!
    David

    1. Use 'Create Multiclip Sequence', instead of just Create Multiclip.
    2. With the angle active, just hit 'f'.
