Multiclip multi questions (audio question and syncing question)

I have two questions concerning multiclip editing:
1. How do you select the audio from one angle to remain the audio throughout as opposed to the audio track changing every time you select a different video source?
2. If one camera in a three camera set-up stops recording for a technical issue and then goes back up, is there a way to sync both of those files to one angle of a multiclip? If not, is there a way to make them separate angles and sync via input on three angles and on output for the fourth angle?
Thanks in advance.

1. In the Viewer's Playhead Sync Menu (upper center), select "Video"
instead of "Video + Audio".
2. Sorry, neither of your ideas will work. Multiclips work with actual media
clips, so two clips will be two angles; and the sync method (in, out, timecode)
is the same for all clips.
I suggest you assemble the two files from the camera in a sequence (using
identical settings as the clips), sync them up exactly (with a little space
between them), and export them using the same settings to make a new clip,
which you can then import and use for your multiclip.
Have fun!

  • Multi-channel audio mapping and adjusting.

    Hello All,
I am trying to understand the concept of multi-channel audio and the way premiere handles the files.
I have an MXF file which contains 4 channels of audio.  I am able to get premiere to view all 4 channels with an adaptive track, however, how do I make adjustments to each track?
EX: Say I want to adjust one of the channels within that adaptive track, how would I do that.
    Former FCP user thanks you.

What adjustments do you want to make?

  • Video and audio do not sync after importing media into Premiere Pro

After I import my video which is in the .MOV format, I notice that the video is slow and out of sync with the audio.  This makes it incredibly difficult to edit.  Any and all solutions will be helpful.

Thanks for your reply.  Excuse my referring to you as "Kevin".  I'm new to the Adobe Community.  I have also referenced another article which is seemingly a bit easier to fix for such a non-technical woman like myself.  I'm going to try both solutions.  Whichever works I'll be sure to reply to the thread with my findings.  I found this article which provides the following solution:  http://blog.flickharrison.com/2012/04/problem-solving-in-adobe-premiere-audio-glitches-and -sync/

  • Multi-Zone Audio with itunes?

I am trying to develop a Multi-Zone Audio System, and i would like to use itunes as my basic software. Since all my family are using ipod/iphone.
My question is how to get 2 or more itunes playing different songs at the same time? or how 1 itunes play different playlist?
Although itunes allow user to create more than 1 libraries, still can't compatible to multi-zone function
anyone have other idea or suggestion?

I believe you're going to need multiple computers hosting iTunes to these Airport Express units. Each iTunes can only play one feed, to as many (or as few speakers as you'd like).
So your iMac can stream to the bedroom while watching Youtube videos locally (with local speakers disabled), and another computer (Mac or PC, desktop or laptop) can be providing internet radio to the kitchen.
I'll follow this thread to see if there actually is a device (or software) that allows for multiple source playback from the same computer.

  • Multi Channel Audio Setup

I've been trying to follow various tutorials for setting up multi channel audio insruments and I always get stuck at the point where you select Output 3-4, 5-6 etc. from the Aux 1, 2. 3 etc. objects. I never have more than Output 1-2 to choose from. I usually use the built- in audio or sometimes a Lexicon Omega. Do I need another interface to accomplish this or am I doing something wrong. I've accomplished quite a lot of things with Logic, but this has been hanging me up for a year now. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

multi channel audio instrument doesn't require a special card or interface
any interface with stereo output should work
you need to make sure your audio instrument supports multi channel
logic pro only has Ultrabeat and EXS24 as multi channel
under the plug-ins choose multi channel instead of stereo or mono then choose what ever is under multi channel
example BFD, RMX, KORG LEGACY and other 3rd parties that support Multi

  • I have questions about audio timing and volume levels

I have a question regarding editing the audio timing. There are a few section in my clip that the rythym is a split second off. What technique can I use to sync up the time by just a fraction of a second?
so far I've tried use the re-time editor which I thought was gonna work but after I re-timed the section, I couldn't drop it back into place without having the lower clip change and make things more confusing, but I had a feeling I was doing thing right for a second. Was I on the right track or is there another way of doing this?
    on another note...
I have some sections in my clip that are peaking in the red, but sound fine on my computer even at full volume. I hear no distortion at all. Does this pose as a problem, and should I re-adjust?
how to connect cuts in final cut pro

This is actually a somewhat complicated subject. There are actually several different kinds of sync issues. Two major "classes": 1) some audio seems to speed up or slow down over time compared to other audio, and 2) audio that just needs to be aligned in time.
One of the biggest culprits for sync issues is mixed bitrates. A typical FCPX project should default to an audio bitrate of 48kHz.  If you have 44.1kHz (or other bitrate) clips, mixed in, the first thing you should do is make sure all your audio clips are conformed to your project.
Select your clips and then select:
[Note: when retiming clips, even if only slightly, make sure Preserve Pitch is selected.]
If that doesn't work, or your audio is "live" recordings and you'd like to tighten up performers timing a little, you can manually sync audio tracks to each other. (You should have at least one audio "track" with the best timing to be your "beat track".)
The idea is to find the events you need sync'd in the audio waveforms; which means listening and seeing the pattern in the waveforms (turning on "scrubbing" helps); and you should find these indicators as close to the end of the clip as possible (you will need to zoom into the clips to see them clearly enough and you will need room to access the retiming slider on one of the clips... so... near the end is best.)
Zoom into the audio clip on the storyline so you can see the waveform clearly, but not so far as to lose detail in the "subsample" range -- to start (it's very difficult to distinguish specific peaks if you zoom in too far.)
With the audio clip selected and the playhead placed on the start of the "event" (bass beat, tom/snare hit, cymbal, etc.) type the M key to set a marker (markers on audio clips can be set on subsamples, so it will be "inside" a single video frame range.)
On corresponing clips that you want to sync with the "master" clip, do the same thing: select the clip, find the corresponding "event" start for that clip, move the playhead to the beginning of the event (you might have to zoom in [command- +] on the storyline one or two times more to improve the resolution), type M to set a marker.
You now have two markers you can align by retiming one (or more) of the clps to match the "master". Use the playhead and have it 'snap' to the master's marker.  When you retime the others, visually align their markers to the master's by using the playhead as a visual indicator for alignment.
This technique can be used with video and audio that has gone out of sync, by finding the visual indicators of a specific sound in the video, setting a marker to mark the start of that event, then finding the audio event and setting a marker. You will need to detach the audio from the video first if you're going to work on it in this way.
It's even easier to sync audio if there are no retiming issues (that is, you just need to align clips, not retime them.) Find the position markers as in the description above (anywhere in a clip since retiming is not necessary), turn on snapping, drag one of the clips until the markers snap... and you're done. You don't even need to use the playhead to have the markers snap to alignment with each other. Very convenient for adding foley/sound effects to video.

  • Question Concerning Erase and Sync and Itunes backups

Earlier this year my Computers Harddrive exploded without me making a backup.  overtime I have moved all my new data to a new Itunes library and now after just about everything has been moved My Itunes is telling me that for my 5 devices, That I need to do an Erase and Sync.  If I were to first backup my devices in Itunes would I be able to recover everything after the Erase and Sync ( Notes, Contacts, Remiders, ect.) Also a side question,  If I restore my phone from a backup, are the data in the Apps Lost
Sorry For Poor Grammar did this in a hurry

If the songs are still on your computer then you'll have to add them back into iTunes and rebuild your library. Once you've done that you can reload your iPod. Pressing "Erase and Sync" when iTunes brings up the dialogue window asking whether you want to replace the songs on your iPod with the songs in this iTunes does exactly what it says. If you linked to an iTunes with only a few or completely different songs it will have erased your original iPod song list, iTunes itself must have been empty at that point as erase and sync erases the iPod not iTunes. If you lost your songs entirely from the computer and the iPod there are some data recovery programs on the market. I've no personal experience of them so I can't say how effective they are, here's an example: iPod Data RecoveryBuegie - Recovering Songs
None of the recovery programs are particularly cheap so you have to decide if in your particular circumstances it's worth it to get your songs back. It may be if you have a lot of purchased tracks which you would have to pay to download again. If they came primarily from your CDs then it's most likely not as you can re-rip them.

  • HT1386 Two questions Itunes Movies and Syncing

I have two questions. I had been using a different computer and had several movies saved from those ones you get free with purchasing a DVD/Blue Ray. When I try to look at these movies it tells me it will cost me money to download again? Doesn't Itunes remember the movies I already downloaded to my account???
Second when I try and sync my phone to the computer this being the new computer I look at the aps to sync them and the photo has a different looking setup and all my aps are not in the same location as the ones on my actual phone. I have the 4s phone and carefully tried to place each AP in the correct place on the computer but then the next time I connected and looked to snyc with new items I downloaded to my phone it uplads the new aps fine but the same messed up screen shows up. It tells me I can lose aps on my phone ( i know they are saved on the computer) when I sync but what the ****! This NEVER used to be a problem on my old computer I even set it up so I am not connected with any other computers just this one.

Ok, so I know I'm going to use Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but now it says Case Sensitive is better? While I hear not case sensitive is better?
I'm a bit confused, do I need to check what the internal drive is to make this decision?
Yes, although it's almost certainly not case-sensitive.
I read somewhere that Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (not case sensitive) is best for TM.
Usually. Case-sensitive is TM's default, though.
    Does it really matter?
    It may.
I'm only going to be using this one disk to back up my one drive.
Review the pink box in #5 again.
If your internal HD is case-sensitive, your backups must be the same. There's no choice.
If it's not, and you don't anticipate using any case-sensitive volumes (a few 3rd-party apps require it), then you're probably better off with case-ignorant: +Mac OS Extended (Journaled).+

  • This is a very simple question about multi-channel audio playback

I have an mp4 file that i made and i made it 7.1 surround sound, and i'm pretty sure that this 7.1 surround sound works, as it can be played in VLC. i'm using netstream to load my files now. How do i make it so that flash can playback all 8-channels of sound? I suppose kglad would know the answer

Flash doesn't support multi-channel audio (yet?)

  • Reconnected audio out of sync (2-part question)

Hi. I'm reconnecting media on a sequence I imported into my project as an xml. Most of the media relinks fine, but some comes up as having different "media start and end." Why? Also, when I switch timeline setting from 8 audio outputs to 2 (because my system can't always handle 8), some of the audio shifts and is no longer in sync. I'm on FCP 6 and the audio format is 48 khz 24-bit integer; audio files are wavs. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, -jk

I figured out part of the problem. It's reconnecting the wav files at 30fps but they were originally 24fps, as is my project and all my media. I realized my easy set-up was at 30fps and I changed it to 24fps. So now it's importing the wavs at 24fps but still giving me attributes error when I try to reconnect media, and they're still off by a frame or two. In some of those clips that frame drifts! Some reconnected auio clips sound fine on audio output of 8 channels but go out of phase by that 1 or 2 frames when I change sequence settings to 2 channels. Ideas? Thanks, -jk

  • IPhone synced with another library..."Erase and Sync" question

I helped someone transfer from an older iPhone to an iPhone 6 and did an encrypted backup on my laptop and then restored that backup to their new phone.
When they took the phone home and tried to sync their library with it they got the following message:
"The iPhone ... is synced with another iTunes library on ...  Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
I understand what iTunes is referring to but what does "Erase and Sync" actually do?  Does it just erase any media i.e., songs, apps and videos and then resyncs them from the new library or does it completely wipe the phone and start from scratch?
    Thanks...

When you say erased, you mean almost like a restore is done to factory settings instead of just the media being erased?
I ask because the older phone is no longer available and they want to preserve their photos, etc.
Can I backup the phone on their computer, select erase and sync and then restore from that backup?

  • Erase and Sync Question..

OK so annoyingly I formated my hardrive on my pc and reinstalled everything. Now I plug my iphone in to my PC and it upon clicking on Sync it says it must erase and sync as the iPhone was syned with another computer.... hmmmm
So I don't mind losing my music and apps as there now on the reformatted PC anyway but I dont want to lose my text messages..
I presume if I click on erase and sync I wll lose my messages?
Can I erase and sync and then if all messages are gone reinstall a backup and iTunes will be happy?
    Cheers, Ben
PS I did manage to backup my iphone backups and have put them back on the PC. iTunes does see the previous backups..

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only.
When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the Phone first.
Your computer is detected as a new or different computer after reformatting the hard drive.
This does not erase all content on the iPhone - this is not a complete iPhone erase and does not involved restoring the iphone with iTunes, which is a separate process and must be manually selected. Data such as SMS is not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup.

  • Multiclip workflow question

I struggling to find the right work flow for using multiclips. I'm having multiple problems, but let me start by asking about a basic issue.
What I'm doing is shooting some music instructional videos, using two cameras, a main full body shot and a close up, plus an audio track. Since I'm shooting myself, I'm just letting the camera roll, and it's easiest to just import the full videos will all takes, sync all three sources and create a multi clip. No problem. Now, I go thru and separate each "scene" into clips, so I have lots of little multiclips, each of some individual topic, possibly with multiple takes of each scene. Next, I want to be able to switch between cameras in the multi-clip in the course of a scene. So my idea of a scene is "(main camera) 'Here's how this is played"' (cut to closeup) play something" When I do that, it seems that I have a choice of "switching" which is just live, and isn't remembered as part of the clip, or I can "cut" between cameras, which causes the multiclip to split into 2 (or more) pieces. Do I have that right? The problem is, I'd really like to retain the notion of each "scene" as a cohesive entity. Once I've a rough editing pass, I need to hand this off to someone else for final assembly and deciding which of the multiple takes to use. I'd like to be able to have them see "Scene 1, Take 1", which includes camera angle switches within the scene. It doesn't seem like I can do that, since the cut operation splits the multiclip into separate clips. So my idea of "Scene 1" ends up being several multiclips. It seems like there should be some way I can retain the idea of a single multiclip that represents Scene 1, Take 1, complete with camera angle switches as part of the clip. Am I just going about this wrong? Wanting something that isn't there?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmm, I tried this, and I don't see any difference in my final result. It seems more awkward with lots of intermediate clips being created along the way, and in the end, my individual scenes still get cut up into smaller subclips as I cut between views in the multi clip. In the end, I still have what I'd like to be able to select as a single "scene" consisting of multiple clips that I have to manually remember fit together, and I seem to have created dozens of awkwardly names clips in the browser along the way. I must be missing something.
But... I did just discover that I can join the pieces of my multiclip into a nested sequence and get what I want - if you couldn't tell, I'm still learning some basics... I can also name the nested sequences nicely, Scene 1, Take 1. Ah, in fact, I can do this in a different order, too. Is there some reason not to just:
    1. make a single big multiclip
    2. cut it into my scenes, ignoring the camera angles for now
    3. make each multiclip scene a nested sequence, with nice names, (Scene 1, Take 1, Scene 1, take 2, etc)
    4. Edit each nested sequence to handle the camera angle cuts, which seems to preserve the atomicity of the sequence, and allow me to make changes, all while keeping the subsequence intact
The only issue I see so far is that I can't add transitions between subsequences.
