Multiclip Sequence & Render Manager

I have a 15-minute NTSC/48 Khz
Sequence of MiniDV footage
and i'm simply trying to add a final
6 second logo which is in the Animation codec
When I try to turn the clip into a Multiclip seq
I have to copy and paste the entire 15 min. sequence
within and when I try and re-render everything my
Render Manager runs out of space & even when I delete
everything in Render Man., it still tells me it doesn't have space
Is their easier workaround to this? As in only re-rendering
parts of sequence instead of full 15 minutes?
thanks

I don't think it works better on this issue, however it supplies more real time playback of mixed formats.
Since you're working in DV, try raising or lowering the clip a bit, might help. Works wonders with titles over DV. Just a single line up or down might make a difference. You'd see it externally on a video monitor.

  • FCExpress Render Manager .... How do I 'manage' render files?

How can I easily delete rendered files in FCExpress HD v3.5?
(Other than traipsing into the Finder, hunting down the render files, "Guessing" which render "file(s)" are the ones I want to delete, then delete them (only to then get the "you're missing files/media" dialog box)
I had set the sequence settings to 50% & 50% on the render and resolution for editing. I now want to 100% & 100% the sequence for the Final Cut (pun intended), there doesn't seem to be a mechanism in FCExpress HD v3.5 to delete just that sequence's render files.
Changing the sequence settings doesn't "clear" current renderings under the former settings.
    Background:
Thing is, I upgraded my hardware to an iMac Core Duo 17" and "downgraded" my video editing software from FCPro HD v4.5 to FCExpress HD v3.5.
Good news is, all my FCPro HD v4.5 files "upwardly" converted to FCExpress HD v3.5; hmmm... FCExpress v3.5 is "newer" than FCPro HD v4.5 .. works for me!
The flustrating news: FCExpress (including HD v3.5) doesn't seem to have a Render File Manager option as such FCPro has the Render Files Manager to manage rendered files; specifically, you can choose to delete rendered files so you can r-erender.
Apple, I had better not have just spent tons of money to be forced to have to switch to the Finder to hunt down and guess which render files belong to the specific sequence I want to rerender.
    iMac Core Duo 17"; 1.5GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

As far as I know there is no render manager in FCE however as you rightly note every time you re-render a clip it replaces the old render file.
Further, ANY change you make to a rendered clip requires the file to be re-rendered (with the notable exception of changing preference settings as there are not clip specific).
Thus a workaround: Make an entirely irrelevant change to the clips in your sequence (like a 10% opacity shift. Render the sequence. Change it back to 100%. Re-render.
My assumption is that the clips will re-render with the new preference settings.
Unless there is a better way?

  • Render Manager says Rendering Full, but Nothing in Folder

I imported a LiveType movie about 3 seconds long with background and text. Nothing major.
FCP 6 tells me I need to render the clip. When I do I get an insufficient memory for render message. It asks me if I want to run Render Manager and free up space. When the Render Manager window pops up there is nothing there that I can delete.
I need to correct the problem or make more space for the render file. How do I do either. Help! Deadline is tonight and I am panic ready.

okay, you may have elements in your composition that cannot be rendered because they are too big or the wrong format. So, the next question is, do you have any still images in your sequence? If yes, make sure they are RGB and not CMYK. You can check in the browser or open the images in Preview to find out. Also, if they are RGB, what are the dimensions. If they are straight from your digital camera they may be too big for the comp. Not file size mind you, frame size. Rescale any images that are too big and try to render again.

  • Creating a multiclip sequence, HERE'S A REAL STUMPER for all you Pros...

    Ok,
this one is a real doozy. We've tried everything we can think of.
Workflow: Three HDX-900 cameras, jam-synced to clocktime and shooting a sports event at 30p (59.94fps) DVCProHD. Recording onto FireStore-100s and backing up onto DVCProHD tape. Dumping firestore DVCProHD footage directly into FCS2. Everything looks and sounds great. We labeled each angle field in FCP according to the camera (A, B, C). We carefully labelled the reel numbers according to our project (P1031308A0101).
I selected the 3 bins (each bin holds the footage from each camera) and made a multiclip sequence. It was UNABLE to make a 60 minute multiclip with the footage from the three cameras spread out according to their timecode. It kept trying to make about 30 multiclips, few of them with overlapping timecode. a couple of the clips did sync together into a 3 camera segment, but most of them failed to find each other. We played with the overlap slider and all of the settings in the multiclip window, and at various points FCP tried to offer us 4 or even 5 camera angles of footage, all from our three angles, each with its own embedded and (seemingly) functional TC. It would NOT simply do the obvious-- take the free-run timecode and arrange each clip along a linear timeline within that timeframe and multiclip them together to form a three-angle view of the sports event.
    Why not?????
Now, one issue we have with this workflow is that the FS-100 drives are unfortunately FAT32, meaning every 2.2 minutes (2 gigs) the FS-100 automatically cuts the footage into 2 gig chunks. but in a regular non-multiclip sequence, this split-up doesn't seem to affect the footage, or timecode at all, and the first frame of the new clip is one TC frame after the last frame of the previous clip, the way it is supposed to. I don't know if this is relevant.
Also, I don't know if this is relevant: We have been shooting in 59.94 fps, 30p, and we have been using the 60@30 method of viewing TC in the viewer and the project settings.
I am thinking that if there was a way to take all my 2.2 minute clips and put them together into a giant master clip (without exporting and losing quality) then my simplified work environment would allow for a working multiclip.
There are three of us in the edit room and we have been trying to multiclip this stuff for hours. We need this solved today. Is there anyone who has an idea? I think we've tried everything obvious. Our computer is a new MacPro with 4gb RAM, capturing onto an eSATA hard drive

    Kevan,
    Thanks for the hey hey.
    TonyTony,
I have lots and lots of 2 minute clips. But we finally figured it out. It's a failing of FCP's multiclip feature to recognize segmented files that originated on a FAT32 drive. Basically, you simply can't, as of FCS2, make multiclips from several files that were automatically split into 2gig segments, even if their timecodes were maintained.
So the solution: I took each camera's footage, lots and lots of 2 minute clips, and pasted them together in quicktime pro to make a longer sequence. then i saved a reference file to the long sequence and brought that into FCP. I did the same for the files from the other 2 cameras. Then multiclipped those reference movies.
The newest version of the FireStore firmware has a setting that lets you create a quicktime reference movie from within the firestore that links the segments together. so my workflow for the future involves making these reference movie, bringing only the reference movies into FCP, and multiclipping them. problem solved.
probably 2 people who are reading this understand what i'm talking about; i'm not particularly great at explaining things. but we're back up and running . thanks for reading.

  • Make Multiclip Sequence glitch in final cut pro 7?

Hi, I'm trying to sync two cameras and audio, all with the appropriate timecodes.
Within final cut pro 7, i select all of my video clips and audio I want to sync, right-click and hit "make multiclip sequence," and the appropriate menu even pops up with the matched up files by their respective timecodes, but often when i create the sequence it will be blank, or contain just random clips of audio towards the end. does anyone know why this happens? very frustrating because it works great sometimes, but frequently i get a blank sequence and end up using plural eyes.
    xdcam footage
compressor is xdcam ex 1080p24, files are from an f3 camera that i rewrapped in xdcam transfer before bringing into fcp 7.

Thanks Michael, the problem is definitely the audio (syncing the two video clips by themselves works, it creates a new synced sequence), but I edited the audio in a new sequence and exported it, and when i tried to sync it it didn't work.
the frustrating part is that when i select just the audio and the two video clips (that have audio), the multiclip menu pops up syncing them (so close!) , but when i create a new sequence it's blank! even more frustrating is that this process used to work and no longer does.

  • Multiple Audio Tracks for Multiclip Sequence

    Hello,
I apologize if this answer is in the manual. I've been through it numerous times but can't find the solution. I have two long clips that I want to use multi-angle editing with. I have one audio monotrack on the first clip and two diff. and seperate audio tracks on the second clip (Left track is from one mic, Right is from another mic).
I want to set up a multiclip sequence so that there are 3 or 4 audio tracks below the single combined multiclip video track. I then want to edit in real time making cuts to the video and simultaneously cut all three (or 4) audio tracks at the same time. I know how to do this last thing but I don't know how to create the sequence with 3 or 4 audio tracks.
Any help would make my Sunday productive.
    Thanks,
    Peter Kraniak

  • Render Manager Prompt - How to proceed?

    Hello All,
This novice question comes from veteran experience in doing the wrong thing. When I first got started with FCP, I had a message about the capture scratch being full. So, not knowing any better (well, actually not knowing anything), I trashed the file. Eek! Those emotional and logistical scars are just about healed.
Anyway, my question now is this. I'm getting a message stating that I need to manage my render files. The message recommends that I open render manager. The choice is, "Check in the Remove column to dele unwanted render files or free up disk space.
    What to do?
    DG
    Message was edited by: djonathang

Under Final Cut Pro > System settings, the first tab is labeled scratch disks. Make sure that video capture, video render, and audio render boxes are checked. Click the "set" button. this is where you set the destination for your external drive. It's best to just point it to the drive.(not a folder in the drive) FCP will create the necessary folders for you and keep your projects media organized by project name.

  • Problem sequencing SQL Management Tools 2014

    Hi
I'm using APPV5.0 SP2 to sequence SQL Management Tools 2014. Unfortunately when running the APPV package on the client, I get the following error:
Invalid license data. Reinstall is required
This seems a known issue (even with SQL MGMNT tools 2012). After some searching, I found out that it's related to a Visual Studio 2010 bug. A hotfix has been released (KB2526163) but won't install so this doesn't solve the issue.
Has anyone managed to sequence either SQL Management Tools 2012 or 2014?
    thanks for your help
    Gert

We used the SQL Server 2014 Management Studio sources, not the full SQL Server binaries. Like Rory did in his recipe.
Product Name: SQL Server 2014 Management Studio (x64) - (English)
    Filename: en_sql_server_2014_management_studio_x64_exe_3941421.exe

  • Exporting multiclip sequence

How do I export a multiclip sequence?
When I select the sequence and go to Export a message tells me I have no media.
    But of course I do.
    Where is it?
Just want to export an uncompressed 1 minute sequence.
Can't find pertinent instructions in the manual.
    Thanks
    LD

    LynnDiana,
Are you trying to export a Multiclip, or a multiclip sequence? A multiclip sequence should export just like a standard sequence.
Perhaps if you could provide a bit more detail on exactly what it is you are trying to do here. What format are your source clips? Have you created a multiclip sequence? How many clips are in this multiclip? How are you attempting to export? Plus any other details regarding your workflow. Without details, we can only guess.

  • Where is my Render Manager

    Hi,
I am using FCP 5 on mac G4. After the last Update of Pro App Support, i cant see my Render manager in Tools menu in FCP 5. Anybody know how this happens?
    Thanks.

    not heard that one before.
usual troubleshooting steps apply i should think ...
at the OS level start by repairing permissions (/Applications/Ultilites/Disk Utility)
in FCP try trashing your FCP preferences with FCP Rescue (from http://fcprescue.andersholck.com)
try creating a new user account in your OSX System Preference >> Accounts pane
then log in to that new account and see if the problem is resolved
afterthat you're heading in to full fresh install territory (OS and Apps)
for what its worth, clean installs, full clones before any upgrades and all that jazz is always the recommended practice

  • About make multiclip sequence

    Hello:
I can´t understand the utility of that.Could anyone tell me which is the function of make a multiclip sequence.
    Thanks a lot.

Lets say you were hired to video a U2 concert in Central Park NYC. They will only play 3 songs. There is no chance for a second take. You bring 16 cameras. They all are recording from the first note to the last reverberation.
Now, you have to cut those 16 takes into one video. How do you decide which camera to use at any instant? Why, Multiclip editing of course!
You throw all 16 clips up in the Viewer in a 4x4 matrix and, while watching all 16 streams which are playing back in perfect syncronization, simply pick the best camera for that instant. When done with the edit, collapse the timeline and finish.
That's what Multiclip editing can do for you.

  • Force start frame number in image sequence render

I have a 900 frame comp rendered to a numbered image sequence.
After applying a revision to frames 250-300, I would like to render
only those frames, overwriting the originals.
    I have tried:
Under >Render Settings, "Work Area Only", with "Skip existing files" off.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Work Area Bar,
but the frame numbering begins at 1 instead of 250.
Under >Render Settings, "Custom", with "Skip existing files" off.
In the Custom fields, I specify frames 250-300.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Custom setting,
but the frame numbering still begins at 1 instead of 250.
Using both of the above settings, I have also tried to "force" a start frame
in the Output Module by manually entering "filename_[00250]".
The result is a new 51 frame sequence starting with "filename_[00250]_00001".
How can I get a partial render to overwrite the correctly
numbered original frames in an image sequence?

I have figured out what I was doing wrong.
I turns out that you can indeed force a start frame
number in the Output Module, but I was using it incorrectly.
Instead of having "Use Comp Frame Number" checked,
I had specified a starting frame number (1 - the first frame of comp).
The result is that regardless of what specified segment I rendered,
the output frames always were numbered starting with frame 1.
After checking "Use Comp Frame Number", problem solved.
Thanks for the input in helping me track down my error.

  • FCP 7 on Macbook Air 11" (canvas playback  & sequence/render)

My high school students are using FCP 7 on Macbook Airs. One problem a few of them are encountering is playback in the Canvas-- the resolution is very low and when I go to their Playback Video Quality setting in the Timeline, the only options are Dynamic or Low. Why are Medium and High greyed out?
Also, sometimes the video 'stutters' in the Canvas. The footage we are currently working with has all been transcoded into ProRes LT.
Also, when I match the settings to the clips formats, the students all still need to render. Yet, on my computer (also a Macbook Air with FCP 7), when I do the same thing (match the settings to the clip), I do not need to render.
All of these problems seem to be related to format/compression....the only one I've experienced on my computer is the stutter. The Playback and Render issues are not happening to me, nor to all of the students.
I've looked through all the possible settings everywhere and I can't see what is different about the macbooks that work vs. the ones that do not.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

I don't have the MB Air at hand right this minute, but I think I remember all the details. I converted Flip Camera files using Compressor with these settings: 1280 x 720, ProRes(LT), SQ, 30 fps, No Field dominance. And I set the Sequence settings to match exactly.
The odd thing is, on some of the MB Airs (these are from this summer, so a recent iteration), there is no playback issue. But, on all of them, even when I set the Sequence to match the clip formats, they all require Renders. My "teacher" macbook Air is basically the same configuration yet mine does not require a Render when I match the footage to the sequence. Also, I have no Playback issues (except the occasional stutter, which I can solve usually), while some of my students do. Why is their High & Medium Playback greyed out regardless of Safe RT or not?
    Thanks!
p.s. : All being store on the internal drive.

  • Sequence/Render Question HELP!!!!!!

I have imported a series of jpegs into FCP. For some reason, when I put them in my timeline, I have to render. Why is this? My sequence settings are as follows:
    640x360, photo-jpeg codec, 23.98fps, square pixles.
Please help if you know the answer.

You'll have to render before final output, but normally sized JPEGs (RGB color mode) should have a RT preview in FCP - depending, of course, on your system's specs and what you RT settings are.
