Multifunction Printer/Scanners and Airport

Does anyone know if Apple is working on an update to allow use of the scanner function of multifunction printer/scanners via Airport Extreme?
Having just bought a new multifunction printer/scanner to find the scanner can not be used via my airport extreme is a bit dissapointing. Even the new version does not have the ability, strange seeming apple has been able to develope and release a mobile phone.

One strange thing, my iMac core duo recognised channel 13, while the same machine's Boot Camp XP cannot recognised the signal. I tried the Window's Airport Utility and Window's Wireless Network, both cannot get the signal(and the SSID name did not show up). But worked right after I set the channel to 9 in the OX mode.
Can anyone kndly explain to me?

Finally I figured the problem was the Extreme auto set channnel to 13 but my HP only support up to channel 11.
The OP was connecting a all-in-one device to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). The OP was not using a wireless connection like you are.

Canon printer/scanners and Tiger

The new Canon MP 170 came with Mac install disc - but I have been unable to install the Driver for the printer or scanner from it. It was possible to install from the disc on a G5 (I have a G4 with 704 MB ram) so there is light in the tunnel. I note from previous thread problems with Canon scanner and Tiger so
I have used disc utility to repair priviledges and downloaded a driver MP 170 from the Canon site - with the same (non) install results - I was unable to install it. I previously tried a Canon MP 150 and had the same problem with the disc supplied except I was able to download a driver from Canon and install it - the printer responded to 'print' and produced a page without a spot of ink on it.
The installation goes slowly showing 0% progress as the bar procedes in the other window then gets stuck at the rolling 'barber pole' stage and does not respond to finder/ force quit.
I have reinstalled combo 10.4.5 and tried again with the same results.
Grateful for ideas and suggestions

Sounds like your installer program has some serious corruption in the preferences, or something similar. Backup your data:

Attempt to create a new administrative user in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts and login there to attempt the installation. If it doesn't work there, then you've narrowed the problem to the two non-user specific Library folders. Let us know whether you get that far, and then we can help further.

Is it possible to change the driver for my canon multifunctional printer?

Hello guys! I've installed my Canon MP160 multifunctional printer to my airport express. I may print from my 4 PC's who is connected to the wireless network. This works great! But I've no scanner possibilities. I would really like to scan as well. Is it possible? Can someone help me, or do I have to connect the printer directly to the PC?

Hi, I have windows 7 and configured my Canon MP160 printer to my airport express. However, i'm unable to print any documents. The documents just wait in the printing queue. I also have a Mac from where i'm able to print over wifi. On my PC, i have installed MP Navigator 3.0 software. Are there any additional drivers i need to install to make the wireless printing to work?

No joy with AsanteTalk, Laserwriter and Airport Express

I have an old Laserwriter 4/600 that still works well for me. For quite a few years now I've been using it with an AsanteTalk connected directly to the ethernet port on my MacBook Pro (using WiFi for internet access). I'm trying to get it working while connected to my Airport Extreme, but so far no luck.
Things I've done that may be relevant:
-Set the Airport Extreme as a WDS Remote (the main base station is a Time Capsule in another room).
-Turned on AppleTalk in the Airport section of the Network System Preference.
-Turned the power on for the printer, Asante and Airport Extreme in every imaginable order
I've read that the Asante unit doesn't work with Time Capsule, but I figure I'm OK because my laptop and printer are both connected to the Airport Express (wireless and wired, respectively).
If I open the Print and Fax System Preference Pane and try to add a new printer it won't find the Laserwriter in the Local Zone in the AppleTalk section. It was listed as "Idle, Default" with a little green dot but it didn't print that way. I deleted that printer setup but now I can't find it on the network.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

None will work as multi-function devices, as stated already only be able to print.
I would recommend getting a networked wireless multi-function device or just connect one locally and share it (again printing only).

I don't believe any of the Brother printers are AirPrint-enabled. Is your Brother printer network-ready? That is, does is support either/both a wired or wireless connection or just uses USB to connect?

Airport extreme: my macbook, cannon wireless printer, ipad and iphone cannot connect to internet when Apple Tv and/or PS3 is connected

Please help! I have an Airport Extreme (model A1143) as my router, and I have several devices connected to it wirelessly and wired. I have my Macbook, Macbook Pro, iPad 1, iPhone 4S, HTC Thunderbolt, Cannon wireless printer, and Apple TV (gen 1) connected wirelessly. I have my PS3, an external hard drive and DirecTV connected via ethernet cable (but sometimes my PS3 is also connected wirelessly).
I began to notice a few months back that my wireless printer had connection errors and could not print. And I noticed soon after that, from time to time, the internet connection on my Macbook and iPad was extremely slow, to the point that I could not surf the web. I tried several different printers before realizing that this problem was happening only when I had my PS3 turned on. I tried both PS3 wirelessly and wired, but the problem persisted. I figured it was a problem with the PS3, so I just made sure that PS3 is off when I need to use the wireless in the house. But I recently bought an ATV (gen 1) and also noticed the same problem when it was connected to the Airport Extreme (wirelessly) - i.e., Ican't print, and my internet is super super slow on macbook, ipad, etc.
So, it must be that my Airport Extreme is the problem, not the PS3 or the ATV. Is there anything I can do to fix this (i.e., some setting that has to be changed)? Or do you think that my Extreme is just dying out on me and it's time for a replacement (I bought it about 5 years ago)?

This problem, for reasons unknown to me, has resolved itself on its own. After several attempts finally everything decided to work. How does stuff like this happen? Thank you.

Printer and AirPort Extreme Base Station with Gigabit Ethernet

I own a macbook, one windows xp pc, and two windows vista notebooks. I bought a airport extreme base station. I set it up with my macbook at first and I do a print and it works. I do the same with the others. I install the printers drives to all notebooks. Then tried to print and only one of them worked. They all have bonjour download for windows. So i restarted all the pc's and mac and tried to print and never prints. On the pc's i get a error message. On the mac i get an its busy and never prints. All of them connect to the internet, but no printing. I have the printer connected to the base station. I did two prints and then I couldnt print after that. Internet works. Please i need some help to fix this. Thanks in advance

Maybe you already have fixed your printing problem. I'm no expert but I sometimes have had printing problems and I feel for you. However, first of all. What sort of printer do you have? It sounds to me that one of the pc printing documents got stuck somewhere on its way to the printer and now it is taking up space on the network (figuratively speaking ofcourse). I can recall something happening to my network/printer some years ago. Unfortunately I can not remember what I did to fix the problem but if I were you I would do the following: First I would disconnect the pc from the network and then try to reset the printer clearing its print memory. Then I would try to get the mac to print again. If succesfull I would take the mac off the network and connect one of the pc's and get that to print. If I succeded I would repeat the procedure with the other pc's. If I wasn't succesfull I would clear the memory again and then try with one of the other pc's. But I would only try one computer at the time to try to isolate the problem. Maybe you have already tried this and since pc's are a mystery to me I dont't know how to help you in that department. However using bonjour on the pc's I would not expect to have problems (though I use Windowc XP print menu on my vertual pc - works fine).

I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...

I have an iP4500, which I assume is quite similar to your model.
I had to reset the printing system to get things printing again. Only takes a few minutes and no problems at all since I did it a week ago or so.
Plug the printer into the USB port on the Express and restart the printer.
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then open Print and Fax
Right-Click in the printer area on the left and select Reset Printing System
Then click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list to install the printer again.

I had a HP3052 whith a scaner message error 5 which can't print anymore. Anyway scanning with this HP is not supported anymore. So looking into the huge HP compatibility list on the web I see no good choice:

The new HP LaserJet M127fn MFP duplex is not even on this list...
I prefer laser than ink printers (I hate buying cartridges every month or have the system stuck with dry ink when not used for a month).
There are some good brother laserprinters, e.g. MFC7860DW, but PC-Fax doesn't work on Mac (I believe).

Printer not working with Leopard and Airport Express

I have seen that this is a common problem but I've tried several solutions that seemed to work for others but still not for me.
I have a Macbook Pro unibody and airport express with OS X 10.5.6. I used a Samsung CLP-300 wirelessly though my airport express (with Tiger on my older macbook). The printer works fine when it is plugged into my USB on the Macbook but not on the airport.
Here is what I've tried in the past 8 months:
- update the Samsung printer driver
- used "fixairport"
- configured HP IP with airport local address
- spent 2 hours on the phone with apple
None of this seemed to work. The printer will print the first page and then any subsequent pages it gives me an error host message.
If anyone can give me an idea of what did work for them in this situation, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

You need to reconfigure your AirPort Express (AX) so that it joins the wireless network provided by the "modem". Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.
